I have been to this Bob's big boy for many decades and I can go all the way back to when there was one of these restaurant called Manners in Maple Heights. For 60 years, I have ordered the same Diamond Jim (which is now called the Slim Jim ) with an order of breaded mushrooms. I had both today. The staff has been here for quite some time cause I recognized faces and a couple of names. Rose was my server and her along with all the other staff were welcoming and pleasant. I had a stellar experience.today I had perfectly cooked hot food and the list goes on and on-- and yes, I could gush about the experience I had today. I could to go to the one that's closer to where I live, but I don't I because it's a dirty little place, inconsistent with anything they prepare along with having a very lazy staff at 130th and Brook Park. I come to this one when I'm going to Cinemark. Or when I'm coming to the far Eastside in Macedonia to get my haircut, I moved west 25 years ago and I don't get to the east side much but I'll travel miles and miles on a camel, on a horse, to come to this establishment. Rose was exceptional and so is everybody else and they laughed like heck when they watched me enjoying my meal like I was in heaven, and I was for my entire visit there today. Food was amazing and I would definitely come back. The only critique I have is that I didn't like that everything I ordered came out separately instead of all together. Restaurant was very clean and calm. read more

After service at Church of the North Coast, we headed across the street to Bob's Big Boy. We were seated right away. Service was great and fast. The ambiance is nostalgic. It is like taking a trip back in time. I had a great burger. It was juicy, hot and fresh lettuce, tomato and red onion. The bacon was very crispy and full of flavor. The fries were fresh and hot too. My mom in law had the chicken stir fry which is her favorite. It is a great value for the money. Next time I plan get a shake! read more

Once a staple of my diet decades ago, I was lured back for the December menu price reduction and got Big Boys w/fries to go. As I waited for my food, I scanned the room and it looked frozen in time from the '70s. Had a chuckle as the phone rang about 25 times before it was picked up. There were plenty of staff in constant movement...just no desire to answer the phone. Got the food home and....eh. My burger bun was so soggy it appeared to have been dipped in water. And the iconic tartar sauce comes on the side now. But removing the offending bun and slathering on the sauce, the burger was meaty and okay. The fries were greasy and limp. A toss into the air fryer brought them back to edible. Today my car had an overwhelming fast food grease smell. Glad I got that out of my system. If I want a classic Big Boy style burg in the future, Buckeye Beer Engine in Lakewood makes a fresh and delicious one. read more

The service was okay but they were having problems with their computer system and not prepared for the special they were running. A couple was seated next to us about 20 minutes after us and ordered double burgers and got their food in a timely manner. Went with our 2 year old grandson and were taken to a table, we asked for a booth because my husband has a bad back is a bug guy and needs more support so we asked for a booth. The girl sat us at one and just walked away. We were waiting for a highchair and she walked by 3 times ignoring us. I stopped her and asked about the highchair. She said very snotty we could not have one because the booths are in isles. We never had that issue before as they usually put us in the atrium. My husband and I looked at each other and I said that's fine. We will go to the Big Boy up the street, because they never have an issue with it either and left. I called the other big boy on the way up and asked them about this and the girl was like what? She didn't even see why there was an issue with it. My biggest complaint is how rude the worker was and instead of saying something when we were seated, we waited 15 minutes before being told and I had to stope her to ask. Classic Americana! Go big or go to Big Boy...seriously just go. I know it's just a glorified takeout restaurant full of locals...yep and admittedly I love it! Breakfast, lunch or dinner, sometimes you need comfort food. I also love that I can order breakfast anytime of day and that's a plus in my book. My husband always gets the traditional Big Boy with extra sauce and coleslaw. I opt for breakfast most of the time, but can lean towards dessert just for the hell of it. Try the brownie sundae it's amazing and HUGE. Service is always fast and courteous, everyone is so nice. I must admit I do miss the 2:00 am breakfast buffet and salad bar. read more

I went to the Big Boy at 130th and Brookpark. Floors were gross, my feet were sticking to them and even sticking to the carpet that was worn out. The food was ok but tasted like it was pulled from the freezer and deep fried. I use to eat here as a kid but won't be back to this one again. I will say the waitress we had was friendly and stopped by every so often to see if we needed anything. read more

What's going on here? I looked at the distribution of the ratings and it's so far from what I would have expected. I often wonder if Yelp ratings are lower in general because people come on to yelp about something like a dog having its tail pulled would - basically a gripe. A friend of mine lives a few suburbs south of this Big Boy restaurant, one of two remaining in this metro area. Realistically, this is the nicer of the two, being more in a business park area in "the valley," a big swale for the Cuyahoga River and its adjacent canal to pass through, as opposed to being in a manufacturing area with nearby adult video stores in which the other one is located. I told my friend I wanted to visit this Big Boy restaurant because I was a constant customer of Bob's Big Boy restaurants, mostly in California, when I was a teenager, though they have served their purpose quite well into adulthood. They have been knows as Bob's, Frisch's, and JB's depending on the states in which these franchises operate. I've been to this restaurant while visiting this friend twice. The service was very pleasant both times. This last time, since it was close to closing, their cook and other staff chatted with us as we paid the bill. We sat in the front, which is used as sort of a glassy sun room at other locations, but is just a separate alcove at this store. This restaurant is tidy and, while it's not a Bob's per se, a statue of Bob wearing his bib is seen both inside by the entrance and on the front lawn. I need to get back on track and discuss the food. I had the classic double decker burger, medium well, with french fries and a side of their own bleu cheese dressing in which to dip my fries. Their bleu cheese dressing, assuming it was the Big Boy label dressing, has always been my favorite brand of bleu cheese dressing. To this, I added a soft drink. We had just missed their strawberry special, advertised on their marquee as "Strawberry Daze," and which allowed the buyer of an entree or sandwich to get a slice of strawberry pie for $1.99. Damn! My friend ordered much the same thing I ordered last time, but this time ordered a chicken stir fry dish. Big Boy restaurants have mostly stuck to their tried and true basics, albeit trimmed down to some extent, but have added foods that I wouldn't have typically seen at a Big Boy when a teen. My friend liked the chicken stir fry dish. It's not something I would order at a classic all-American diner-coffee shop, but "whatever floats your boat." Kudos to this Big Boy restaurant for keeping their prices and price increases to a reasonable level. The experience here is fairly true to the expected Big Boy experience - food quality and taste, value, cleanliness, and pleasant service - so I give it 4 stars. read more

Hubby and I were starving and had never been to this chain before, so we thought we'd give it a shot. Big mistake. I paid almost $8 for basically half of a crappy sandwich. I got the Slim Jim, which was tiny and disappointing. I would have been happier with fast food, which isn't a far cry from the quality here, but they charge twice as much. Not sure how they get away with that. Hubby said his buffalo chicken sandwich was subpar and tasted like frozen chicken thawed in the microwave. I had a taste and it was mediocre at best. We ended up paying $4 (prices not listed on menu) for a shake that tasted like a $1 frosty from Wendy's. This was our first and last time at a Big Boy restaurant. read more

I have have been here in YEARS First the food I had the bacon -blue cheese burger it was really good, better many burger places, it really looked exactly as the picture on the menu bacon hanging off the really good. My mother had the original big boy a classic with onion rings, true you get 12ish rings but they are HUGE the each was size of your palm, well worth $3, The service was good it was not busy, our waitress took our order quickly, checked on us a few times. I really liked the burger I got and the mozzarella sticks were good too. The staff was kind and fast which is something hard to come by with many places you go nowadays. The interior still has its classic "Mom and Pop" diner kinda vibe which is really refreshing. My father said the soup wasn't too good but it could've just been a bad batch. Big Boy was the first burger I had with more than mustard and ketchup on it. I was 10 or 11 yrs old. 65 years later it's still my favorite burger. Sadly there's only one Big Boy restaurant in the Akron / Cleveland area. The service may not be the fastest but they are friendly and genuine. The food is good, but this one star review is because of a singular event that happened because of a bad manager named Kevin. He used inappropriate language towards a server for doing her job. Jessica was a great server and he fired her on spot in a rude and offensive way. Customers should not have to hear rude language from managers towards anyone! Haven't been to a big boy in a long time. Wanted it to be good. But the salad had a lot of icky lettuce. Some onion rings were over cooked out of the 8 you get was kind of sad. And the Cajun pasta dish looked nothing like the pic in menu! The pic shows a chicken breast all sliced, we got 3 pieces of the breast!!!! I took a photo of ours as presented to us and the one in photo. Not to mention it was bland and had no flavor! Had to add some bob's big boy seasoning salt they keep on the table for some taste.
