This review goes well past the food. We had to pull off I-70 due to icy conditions. There were 4 teachers and 36 students already exhausted from a 3 day conference in St. Louis. The manager Dre went out and scraped ice off of two of the vans for the ladies driving them, made fresh warm cookies for the students and called the area hotels to secure us 15 rooms while I could make arrangements with our district for paying the rooms. He comforted the nerve wracked ladies and kept the kids calm and helped me keep the kids safe and warm. Although the ice was not a high point of the trip - landing in the Steak & Shake with Dre running the show made it a lot more bearable. read more

I currently live in AZ and there is only one of these burger joints in Tempe so I had to stop at Steak and Shake on my way home. The facility is normally pretty tight and has the old diner feel on the inside. Food was delicious but they ran out of a lot of stuff - didn't have mushrooms, cheese sauce and a certain type of shake that I wanted. I had to remind the staff three times to get me cheese sauce as well but it is what it is.. pretty good fry's and the waitress made the trip worth while! read more

I was a little disappointed with my most recent dining experience at Steak 'n Shake. The restaurant was very busy because of the kids eat free special, and our group of 8 had to wait for almost 30 minutes to be seated. We were not offered a menu to look at during our wait. When we were finally seated, things turned good as we were offered cardboard car making kits and paper hats. But then we waited almost 45 minutes for our food to be ordered, which mainly consisted of kids meals. Once the food did come, I was the only one not receive my plate because they had forgotten to put cheese on my sliders. 15 minutes later, I finally got them (and everyone else was almost finished eating). The waitress was very nice and apologetic and offered free milkshakes to all of us to make up for the bad wait time. We all obliged, but then had to wait almost 15 minutes for the shakes! The entire dining experience took about 2 HOURS. I would have rather had my time back than the milk shake. The only reason I didn't rate them with one star is because I have had better experiences when I was in a smaller group. So take my advice--Don't go there if you're in a large party. read more

My favorite place to go when I need something greasy, good, cheap, and close to where I live. I've never been disappointed with the food here although they tend to get really jam packed with customers sometimes. Once, I had to wait in the drive through for over 20 minutes, but still, the food is always fresh tasting. Steak N Shake's chocolate milkshakes are so good and their Frisco burgers are fantastic. I don't go inside much for dining, but when I do, the service is always friendly. read more

Well Yelp friends, I finally gave in and took the 2 little sh*ts for some dessert at the midwest bitchy step sister to shake shack, steak n shake. So off we went to happy hour at steak n shake. Clete who's 12 now but can't put a sentence together to save his life had the frosted flake shake and said it was great. Knew he wasn't lying because he sucked so hard on the remains, I had to take him to urgent care to get a piece of he styrofoam cup removed that had been lodged into his throat. Should have left it there, I love him but he's never going to amount to anything! oh well you can only do so much for the kid. Well I'm done!!! Shake was good. My other son Ira had the coco crispie shake. He said it was better than ted drewes and dairy queen combined! Boy is 18 now and all that statement tells me is that I failed. Shouldn't have have been so abusive to him when he was younger. We have a great relationship now and he knows I had little drinking problem back then. Hard to change history though so we move on! At least the boys loved the new shakes but I will say it wasn't happy hour for me when we got back to the hotel room! While the place was pretty dirty, the young man preparing my breakfast did an awesome job. I haven't been to steak and shake for quite a while and decided to stop in while I was traveling through Columbia late at night, I am glad I did. My waitress was pleasant and attentive and for the first time in my life I made it a point to personally thank and tip the cook as well. Man he can cook! read more

My boyfriend and I come to this location every weekend I come to see him. If you get a great waitress you will have an incredible experience. There are some people who work here that are very attentive and great service. Others are clearly not in love with their job but hey it's fast food so it happens. As far as food, we always enjoy our meal. We keep coming back for its consistency and yummy shakes. Remember where you're eating and adjust expectations accordingly. I will NOT be going back to this location! I will also be telling everyone how horrible it was! The restaurant was filthy and the service was horrible! We sat down and ordered and it took us over a hour to get our food! There were people getting their food way before us, and they sat down before us! A step above fast food burgers. I still don't care for their super thin fries, but some people love them. My only complaint is that the Clark Ln location always seems to mess up my food. The last two times I've been there, they have put things on my burger that aren't even supposed to come on it. The service can be really slow and inattentive at times as well. read more

Had one of my worst dining experiences here. Took 5 minutes to get seated while 4 workers stood and looked at us. Took another 15 minutes for a server to come take our order. Zero stars is my honest rating. Absolutely rude and argumentative boy working drive thru wouldn't even let me order Bc interrupting me to state the burger automatically comes plain, which I know is incorrect due to the picture on the menu and the fact that I've eaten at other establishments before. When I repeated myself that I for sure just wanted meat and cheese, he snapped at me again. There are too many good places to spend money at, where the server isn't behaving like a punk, so I drove away. Called to speak with the manager, and I could hear same kid running his mouth in the background. Then when manager got on phone, there wasn't even a question as to what happened, just said sorry and hurried to get off the phone. So obviously no one is educating this staff. Absolutely hands down the worst and most disrespectful experience I've ever had in my 33 years alive. Waited 34 minutes to get a order that not only was completely wrong but was served to us cold. When I tried to bring it to their attention was at first ignored and had to literally make myself visibly seen by other then the two teenage girls giggling about some boy there,to a employee that finally got me what was their manager which was very unpresentable,and unhelpful due to the fact that his only option for me is to wait even longer then the now 41 mins I've waited to eat said meal. So I ask to just be refunded my money so I could just go and find some where that not only could make the meal I ordered and in a timely fashion, I'm informed by the manager that they don't give refunds....... huh how is this?? How can you take money from a customer for services rendered when the service I received is improper, the food is served at less then sanitary standards, and then I'm to just go on about my life without my money? He informs me my only choice is to talk to a general manager named Martin that'll be in the next day. Well I'm beside myself and after trying every option I left to wait. Well this GM Martin was rude to me as soon as I informed him I had a problem with preparation of a meal the night before, he continued to cut me off and tell me I'm out of luck because they don't give refunds and I should stop trying to get a free meal, funny considering the staff not only took the meal the messed up on but also never gave me another or attempted to do so. When I was hung up on I got their main office number and attempted to get into contact with someone and so far they have been very unhelpful. Overnight food have me the wicked shits by morning. And I mean bad. The French fries weren't fresh. Tried ripping me off by not giving me the tenders I ordered. And didn't fill my large sweet tea with light ice all the way up. Should have just ordered a damn medium if you're dumb ass employee had any common sense he should have been properly trained in how to fill up a god damn cup. I didn't ask for light tea. I asked for light ice. That doesn't mean still rip the customer off some how. I think steak and shake is trying to save money by being cheap.
