I was so shocked to see that this location was empty staff was very attentive and very friendly. The meal I had was a double western by far one of the best burgers I've had in so long very juicy full of flavor. The location is amazing sadly past employees have given this location a bad name but they are a whole new team and it's a brand new experience. Upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles, that was the only good service we had during our time at this Steak 'n Shake. We had to order on Kiosk, which I have no problem with, but I saw an older lady who struggled with it as the workers neglected her. I watched as one of the cooks danced around, bragging how it was close to the end of his shift. Our burgers (only two) took 22 minutes to cook. TWENTY TWO MINUTES for TWO burgers. As my father went to ask on the status of our food one of the cooks what the holdup was, and we got the typical "oh it's almost out." My dad stood in the same spot because he sensed the lie. He then asked the head cook what the holdup was as the head cook gave him attitude. When our food arrived the head cook slammed our burgers down. My burger was covered with mayo, like a HEEP of mayo. A few months ago, my wife and I visited this restaurant. There were plenty of open tables to be had and yet my small party waited at the door for about 15 minutes before being acknowledged. Once we were shown our table and our order was taken (after waiting another 20), our waitress brought out the food in pretty short order. But alas, that was the last time she graced our table with her presence. There were no refills. There were no eating utensils. Not so much as an attempt to check on us was made. After watching the entire wait staff sit around the bar for about a half hour chatting, and not visiting a single table, I finally got up, walked around the counter, and helped myself to refills, silverware, and some napkins which we had not been given. Several waitresses looked on as I assisted them in their duties and yet not one made a move to stop me or apologize. I returned to my table and they returned to their conversation. Now months later, I am writing this review whilst sitting in the drive-thru of the same ill-staffed and ill-managed eatery. I again visit this pit of despair not out of choice, nay; but out of necessity due to the time of day at which I'm eating. After waiting in a deluge for approximately 20 minutes to be acknowledged at the speaker, I have finally inched my way up to the window. As I sit here, watching the water droplets trickle down the foggy glass of the window as well as my left arm, I can only hope that my words will one day save one one of you readers from this same fate. And when that day comes my friends, I will then know my struggles have not been in vain. But seriously. This place is crap. Better off at Arby's. read more

Not only are they extremely slow. So slow you really think there's only one person working in there. But the quality of food is subpar at best. It hurts to write this review as we consider this place a constantly good fast food joint. But I write it in hopes that change will happen. This morning it started off bad and perhaps we should have walked out then but again we have been here many times and it's been great. Our server took us to two tables and bypassed them because they were dirty. After being seated it didn't improve. My order was wrong... BLT no mayo and my husband's order when it arrived, was cold. The servers was very apologetic and offered to fix everything. My BLT did reappear without mayo but my husband wasn't going to wait to have his order remade as we had already waited 20min for scrambled eggs with cheese. Again we have been here many times and it has been great. When we arrived there was one server. It seemed everyone else was on break or not there yet. I believe she did the best she could. I feel her manager is to blame. He watched her struggle and then seated people at dirty tables. As he sets the expectation, it's no wonder the food and the restaurant were not to standard. read more

Craptastic with a side of carp. The drive through was horribly long! Not the line of cars (which was maybe two) the amount of time I had to sit there and wait for my over priced sack of carp. My husband and I went there the other day. There were only 2 other couples there at the time. It took over 15 minutes for a server to take our drink orders and then another 10 to actually get the drinks. It then took over 35 minutes for our order to come out. When it did it was cold and the wrong order. The manager was our waiter, I told him my order was wrong and cold and he told me there was nothing that could be done to fix it and then walked away. My husband and I left without eating and they tried to charge us $10.00 FOR WATER. when we left the manager was bad talking not only us but the rest of the customers he didn't care who heard him. read more

I had looked over the negative reviews of this certain location on TripAdvisor and Yelp, however noticing that most of them were somewhat dated we decided to give it a try anyway - We're SO glad that we did!! Excellent friendly service, hardly any wait time from start to finish, clean interior, and wonderful food! Our waitress, Sharne', was very nice and on top of things, as was our server, Gregory. Waited in line to be seated for almost five minutes in a S&S that was mostly empty! Once seated we waited ten minutes before I went to the manager to ask if we could have a waitress, since the others in my party wanted to leave. Finally a waitress with an attitude came over acting like we were bothering her by being there. When the food arrived it was excellent, particularly the milkshakes. when we asked for drink refills we were glared at as she asked us to pass her our glasses. This place does not represent the S&S across the South that are generally excellent. This one urgently needs to close and start over from scratch! read more

Horrid experience. Our friend ordered a root beer float that took nearly 17 minutes to reach the table, which is insane. It took nearly 30 minutes for our food to get to the table. After we ate, we really wanted shakes so we ordered two to go but the wait was so long we ended up just leaving without them. I like to come here for the burgers and shakes they're so good! Inside is very cute and the waiters are usually really friendly. They seem understaffed most times because it can take a long time till you get your food. I'm not a fan of their fries!! Also not a fan of the drive thru... As great of an idea it is they're just too slow to have a drive thru window I once sat in the drive thru for 20 minutes and the line of cars was out of the parking lot. Recently visited the Steak and Shake in Decatur Alabama was the absolute worst experience I've ever been to at a Steak and Shake normally I really love this place. But first off went to the drive-thru window the associate at the window was so rude it was Unreal got the order messed up a few times and when we proceeded to the window she started screaming and hollering at her manager that we were a disrespectful Customer because we asked to see the receipt because she had the order wrong yet again the manager came out try to fix the order and keep in mind we're at the drive-thru we sat there 31 minutes waiting to get the order correctly while this associate is over his shoulder making face and doing obscene gestures at us it was very inappropriate and unprofessional and the manager seem to not mine. Will never go back to this particular Steak and Shake Like I said before Steak and Shake is normally a really good place but Decatur Alabama will make you change your mind on that. read more

Went in around 8:30 tonight, there were 4 tables of people. There were about 6 people the front. I stood there forever (10 Min) just for someone to come over and ask if I wanted a seat. I decided just to order our 4 milk shakes to go. Needless to say 30 minutes later and very pissed off, I was fixing to just ask for my money back, when some lazy worker who had been sitting down, finally brought them over. Now I could see if they were busy but my goodness, I have never seen such lazy workers in my life. Never again. read more

This is my second time this week visiting steak and shake located in Decatur al. Both times my food was not properly fixed , and did not taste good, our service was very slow and the waitress could not get anything correct, not only was my food wrong but two other people at our table had the same problem. My ticket was incorrect when paying our bill and I tried very nicely to ask them to correct it and the cashier couldn't even add the ticket up correctly , example our order was as follows : two (2) Coles at 1.79 each, add vanilla to both for . 29 each, one (1) small Heath shake @ 3.59, one (1) small side salad @ 1.99, one (1) order of a Frisco melt with Cajun fries. @ 5.49, we had a $1.00 off for the Frisco melt which we showed to the waitress upon ordering and gave it to the cashier at paying the bill, I asked very kindly for the cashier to please re add the bill and she wouldn't or couldn't do it the total for that meal should have been 16.72 with taxes, and I was charged $22.77, doesn't add up!!!! read more

I grew up eating at Steak 'n Shake in Tampa when they had carhops on roller skates. It was always a treat to go there with my daddy and get that tray brought to the car. I was so excited when one opened here. Now, I am just annoyed every time we go in there. You might get seated quickly or you might stand there 10 minutes while the staff hangs all over the counter and talks to each other. We went there last week, on a Wednesday evening and there was one other man in the place. We were seated quickly but nobody ever came over to even speak to us. Finally a waitress walked by after about 15 minutes as she cleaned off a nearby table and we asked if we could order. She seemed surprised to see us...again, only one other man and our party of 8, seated in the middle of the store. We ordered and three people in our group got milkshakes. Three of us got sweet tea. The other two got water. We waited......and waited. 10 minutes passed...no drinks. Finally she came back and said she had to make tea. Ok...can everyone else get their drinks? Oh....yeah. Water came, no shakes. We had been waiting for food for 40 minutes at this point. Finally it comes out, cold. Maybe when the cooks were back there singing and dancing and playing with the girls behind the counter they could have dropped those fries and cooked those burgers. We asked why it was slow as there were no other tables occupied. The answer was that they were short staffed and the drive thru was busy. Ummmmm yeah.....four cooks, four waitresses hanging out and using their phones and one occupied table does not a rush make. To make it worse, one of the people with us just didn't receive his food at all. The waitress tried to pretend he didn't order but we made her pull out her order pad and there it was. They just missed it. Oh and still no shakes or tea. The tea came out and the lost burger arrived. Finally she said she was going to start the shakes. We told her to make them to go because we were all done and ready to go. I wish I could say this was a one time thing it is always like this at this store. The owners don't care. The managers don't care. We have complained before and we just get nothing but a run around and crappier service and food when we decide to try it again read more

Arrived at 3:00 pm on a Saturday [9/24/16]. Got seated after ~5 minute wait even thought there were several tables open, but looked like only had one person on floor. After order taken [bowl of chili and two shakes], we waited another 40 minutes for shakes which never came. The chili came after ~20 minutes, but it was not any good. The person that took our order, came by once and said shakes should be out shortly! I finally gave up and went to pay for the chili and noticed that the shakes were setting in the window. I paid for the chili and pointed out to person at the register {note that this was the person that took our order and she had been at the register for several minutes} that the shakes were in the window and she said that someone should have brought them to the table. I have eaten several times at the Huntsville place and they always seem to have adequate help and really did not have issue with them. This is first and last time that the Decatur location will ever get any of my business. I noticed that I am not only person that has had problem at this location.
