STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT CHAIN!! Went through the drive thru Sunday evening. I ordered a Portobello and Swiss Burger and took it home. Halfway through the burger I bit down on something hard, very hard. Turns out it was a Stainless Steel Screw. I reported it but just learned that they are denying that it came from them and won't pay for dental bills. I ordered at 7:25PM and reported it to them at 7:45PM. I live 10 minutes away, do the math. Their legal team apparently did a full investigation the following Wednesday that showed that no screws were missing. It only gave them 3 days to replace the one in my burger. I sure hope this isn't a trend. I swore by this Steak N Shake, I even waited in the drive thru line for eternity the last time I visited (25 minutes). I even drove out of my way (20 miles) to come to this very location. The very one I told my friends about. Perhaps, the last remaining decent SNS in St. Louis area. And what exactly was I rewarded with? Two totally "sucky" meals. I could have went to the Chesterfield location and had a meal this bad. The service wasn't all that bad, but the food most certainly was. On my dine- in visit I specifically requested a well done burger with crispy edges and dry and received a greasy burger, lightly browned, crowned with a damn bun that wasn't even toasted. On my drive thru visit I ordered the steakburger shooters (dry and burnt) and waited patiently in line only to receive all three of them cold and greasy- just like the fries that came with the order. I had to go back inside and have them remake the entire order. Another fifteen minutes wasted. I realize they make everything to order and I'm okay with that, I'm just upset that when I went inside to have them remake my order I witnessed many employees (not everyone) walking around and doing nothing. The dining room was nearly empty. The restaurant appeared overstaffed. Couldn't a couple of employees assist the cook line to alleviate the super slow drive experience? Just a thought. Here's a thought, the next time I drive down I-55 I will pass the Festus exit. No more Steak N Shake for a while. Absolutely disgusting, this place has gone to hell in a burning handbag. The service is the worst ever, incompetent workers lazy ass staff and an oblivious manager. First we get served chili in dirty bowls with dry chili sauce crusted on the brim of the bowl with plastic spoons because workers are too busy chatting instead of working, when asked for a manager she got us new chili and brought tea spoons for our chili. Then we get brought food we didnt order with some of what we did order and were told it was just sitting in the window, my fries were cold and greasy. Back in May 2013, I came here for breakfast right about 10am. It was me, aunt, uncle and the girl I was dating at the time. The waitress took our beverage order. My gf and I each ordered a red velvet shake. She wrote it down. My aunt ordered a shake also. Uncle wanted only water. After a couple minutes, she brought water for everyone because usually they give you a water even if you don't want it. Then she took everyone's food order. The lady came back with my uncle order because he ordered food where all you have to do scoop it up which don't take very long. So after my uncle got his food, he had already consumed it while me, aunt and gf waited for almost 40 minutes for our order. On top of that, the waitress NEVER came back once to at all. Not to give us an update on where our order is or came back with shakes, nothing. 40 minutes goes by, I just said "let's leave". The manager on duty apologized for what happened. He said next time we come in, meals our on him. Over three years later, still haven't been back. I will NEVER go back there for breakfast. I had a lot of experience when applying for steak n shake and I was finally alone for my second day the results turned out like this. I was fast , nice, one of my orders had shakes on them and the shake maker didn't make the shakes in time and cause of that reason I was being pulled back into training and I was ferious because the manager just messed up on a big order of shakes that she personally made and she had customers leaving and she took to long .. being not only being chewed out of something I didn't do because I did order what the customer wanted I was being pulled back a step because of someone else falt. When we got to the restaurant, we had a 10 minute wait, when it wasn't even packed, and there were open seats already available for a table of two. Once we sat down, it took them another 10 minutes to ask us what we want to drink. We order our food, and end up waiting another 30 minutes to get our food. Throughout all that time we still hadn't been checked on. When I ordered the food, I asked for hot sauce. When I got the food, I asked for hot sauce. It took around 30 minutes for our food to be brought out to us. Waiters never stopped by and checked in one time. Friend asked for hot sauce two times and never received it. After drinking all of my sweet tea I waited around 10 minutes for a refill and didn't get offered one until I was standing up ready to leave the restaurant. I was very dissatisfied with the service received at the Location from the St Louis Zoo. Order was taken, never received our drinks. 4 people received there food while 1 person did not. By the time I received mine, every one else was almost done - STILL NO DRINKS. Mine was horrible and brought to manager who offered to take off ticket but still no drinks - she said she would take care of. 5 minutes later, 4 other people done eating with NO DRINKS and when went to manager again she said "she was a little preoccupied right now to address the situation" which was drive through. We stopped our waitress & ask what was going on & she said the computer must have froze & she would check. We waited 35 more minutes and left. We are grateful there are so many other places to eat. Upon walking into the Festus Steak N Shake resteraunt I was ignored for five minutes while the line continued to file out the door. Being a host, I'm aware you have to take names in the order they enter. Instead of asking my name or giving me an approximate wait time I was greeted with a woman who told me she "didn't know where to put me." And then ignored for another few minutes. I wish that I could say that my second greeting was better but it was worse. Instead of asking my name and how many were in my party, this woman told me there wasn't any room or tables for my party. When I replied that we would wait I got a response that was quite shocking. "That doesn't change the fact that we don't have any room for you" I replied that I would leave and she promptly walked away. Probably the worst service I've ever had. I used to go to this location all the time & its drastically gone down hill. I was seated and the server ignored me until the rest of my party was there(there was 3 of us). She then asked us what we wanted to drink and rolled her eyes at us when we weren't ready to order. After she came back with our drinks, she took our order. I asked her if something was still on the menu and she laughed at me. She didn't deliver our food and never checked on us. Someone else delivered the check with our food, but didn't tell us that she dropped off the check so we waited around for it. I'm a server, so I try to be understanding when I go out to eat, but this girl was a complete b*tch. There was literally two other tables in the restaurant and we never got refills. Took forever to be seated. I ordered milkshakes and did not revive them until I had finished my dinner, and they were very watered down, I ordered a cookie dough, and I had NO cookie dough in my shake. I went to pay for my order and added a chocolate milkshake, it took 15 minutes for me to get it. I saw many crew members standing around that could have taken 2 minutes out of the time that they were spending talking to their friends at the cash register to make it. I called the manager and I couldn't even finish my sentence without him interrupting me 3 times. I cant remember the managers name, but he said he worked Sunday through Thursday and I could only come get a replacement milkshake when he was there.
