Writing this review from the drive thru as I wait on my food I ordered online over 30 minutes ago. Never in all my years as a customer OR as a restaurant employee have I heard of being asked to go through the drive thru a SECOND TIME because my food isn't ready. Not please pull forward so we can bring you your food when it's ready. But can you please DRIVE THRU AGAIN for your Order you placed in advance. I don't even want the food anymore. I'm astonished that they would even ask that in the first place.. is this a new thing?! Oh my goodness! In Festus Missouri Steak n Shake is BACK! I used the kiosk to order. My shake came out shortly after I sat down. I ordered the double cheeseburger and fries. They came out quickly and hot. Both the fries and burger tasted amazing. Like the old days of Steak 'n Shake. Delicious! Fast! Hot! Plus the servers were very friendly! Even though we had to order at kiosks, there was someone standing there to help (and we needed the help). The food was delicious and hot (except for the chocolate shake). I went thru the drive thru at 2:37 and they told me to pull up and wait for my order. 15 minutes had passed so I called the store to complain that I'm sitting outside waiting. 20 minutes later they finally came out with my order but forgot my drinks so I had to wait even longer. We love the Festus Steak n Shake! The food is always hot and fresh--which we really appreciate. The new management is awesome and really does value their customers by putting them first. The new self-serve model is quick and easy to use. We especially love the self-serve soda fountain. Each restaurant is run differently and while some aren't too high on the rating chain, this location most definitely is. have had several meals at this location, and each time has been a pleasant experience to say the least. from the quality of service to the quality of satisfaction at the end of your meal, this Steak n Shake delivers with flying colors. while they have several different selections to choose from on the menu, the original double steak burger will always get my vote. serve that with a side of hot fries with some doubly good melted cheese topping them... the good experience doesn't stop with the food, it continues with the service received from the serving staff. everyone I deal with here has a good attitude, and welcome and serve you with a smile as it should be at all restaurants. they make routine check backs after delivering your food to ensure your dining experience is a good one. it's the several different points mentioned in this review that keep me coming back for return visits to this location. it's one of the better operated locations in this chain, and consistency with quality will always keep me coming back for more regardless of what the business is. read more

The food wasn't even warm... 3 chili-macs & 4 single steakburgers. The mustard/relish that was ordered on two of the steakburgers was all over the other two, which means someone was messy and then didn't change gloves. They were out of crackers and gave me ONE parmesan cheese packet for 3 chili-macs! No excuses are valid...AND the topper... the HAND-DIPPED SHAKES are now a thing of the past as they have installed SHAKE MACHINES. As if that isn't bad enough, there is no longer malt and the new "whipped cream" i s some faje/pretend product which doesn't look nor taste like whipped cream. Well we heard they were under new management and decided to give it a try. It was definitely worth it. The food was served fast and fresh. It was hot and truly was good. This location has really turned things around since becoming privately owned. The finally have someone capable of efficiently running a drive thru. Food is fast and fresh. If they mess up, now a very rare occurrence, they fix it with a smile and an apology. The shakes are good but too small for their price , they have great chili and that is it. The wait is way too long. It's never clean inside ever and if you order a burger do not expect it to look like anything like it does in their pictures. Here's a picture of how my Bacon N Cheese Double looked compared to their picture. It was plain "no sauce no vegetables" and smashed. It's about 1/4 of the size the picture shows. The fries were soggy and not even cooked in the middle. I've given this location multiple chances and they progressively get worse and worse each time. I will not go back and I highly suggest to anyone reading this eat elsewhere. read more

We only come to this location every once and awhile, but this will probably be the last time. Waited over 5 minutes just to be seated, and there where plenty of empty tables. Floors and tables were dirty. The staff seemed overwhelmed and they weren't even that busy. Food was good and waitress was doing her best though (Danetta). Got a random message from my driver saying this has never happened before but they turned away all customers and shut down the store, an hour before closing. By far the worst Steak 'n Shake I've ever been to. First off, it took the waitress 20 minutes to seat us... At a fast food restaurant. After we were seated we waited for ages for them to take our order. We ordered 3 things in total. Once we had ordered, it was an additional 20 minutes from when we sat down for just the fries, and 30 minutes for the shakes. Two shakes and fries. Unbelievable. Now to add to this all too great experience, we were blatantly ignored by our waitress once we were trying to get a check to escape this living purgatory of time. I literally had to jump directly in front of the lady, after she had walked past for the umpteenth time, to get her to acknowledge our existence. And you guessed it, it was another 20 minutes before we could pay and escape. Now don't don't get me wrong, the food was good, but that horrendous customer service is completely unacceptable. The food and shakes were great. Tasted fantastic. However, it doesn't matter how good the food is if you're dead from old age by the time it arrives. My sons and I stopped here on our way home from the Cardinals/Brewers game, Sunday early evening. We honestly waited over 45 minutes at a place that has a drive thru window. There were no food items that required extra attention, unless someone personally painted grill marks on my 9 year old's hot dog. They apologized repeatedly for the wait, I'd have given an extra nickel for someone to be working as hard preparing food as they were apologizing how slow it was. They do get 2 stars because the food was good, even if I do nearly now qualify for the senior discount as a result of the aging I did. My son and I ate at Steak n shake in Festus last night 11-21-2019, one of our usual spots to eat. We finished our meals and shakes and had no waitress she since cashed out and left so went up front to ask for 2 cherry cokes to go, guy was gone for a bit to get our drinks he returned and my son and I left. Shortly afterwards we went shopping and I got a very bad belly ache, then my son did moments later. We both got the shits very bad. I gave the cherry coke to my little girl when I got home not relating it at all to the soda at this time, then she woke me up with extreme belly ache and had the shits all night with very bad belly pains! Not one of our other kids or my husband was sick, ONLY the 3 of us that had cherry cokes from Festus Steak n Shake. I think our drinks got something put in them. I think either drugs or laxatives or something. I called the store and didn't even get to talk to the main manager as he was busy but talked to a duty manager or something and all he said was I'm sorry, sorry don't fix anything!! Well that is bs cause like I told him I think something was put in our drinks, drugs, laxative or something. They should want to get to the bottom of it. I still have the rest of the soda in my frig as we didn't even finish it cause we all got the bad belly aches. Wish there was a way to check to see what was put in it. Literally tried going through the drive thru after seeing at least 4 people inside. They then tell us at the speaker box that they are closed due to being short staffed. If you can have 4 people inside messing around and are able to answer the box. You can for sure take orders and do your job. read more

Background: I worked here for a time. I was a manager. Not even going to avoid that. My boyfriend came through drive thru last night & was treated very unprofessionally by your overnight cook. He was well known by staff during my time there bc he would visit at the end of my shifts. Your employee greeted my boyfriend by saying "don't you have anywhere better to be?" He had previously visited Taco Bell, but their systems were down, causing him to leave, which he relayed to your associate. Your staff's response was "I tell that to people when I don't want to serve them". I want nothing from this company anymore. There are reasons I left. However, treating people like that, being so bold and unprofessional to make statements like this, is UNACCEPTABLE. I don't care if I upset him in the past, we are customers. I arrived at the store at 4:00pm had two cars in front of me that needed to order. Received my food at 5:05 pm. No sorry for you wait or anything? They forgot the sauce I requested so they went and got that. I looked in the bag and counted pieces to make sure everything was there. Get home and sure enough the only burger in the bag was wrong.
