Mason the manager was very rude. Took 40 minutes to get my food, my sons burger had cheese and he wont eat cheese. Another 20 minutes and still no burger. Such slow service! From waiting minutes from someone to say hi can I take your order, to it getting worse when it's even slower to receive the order! Waiting 35 minutes in the drive thru isn't an experience worthy for the food or service. Is there not enough staff? Are staff performing multiple roles at once? I don't know. This restaurant used to be pretty great but over the last 5-6 years, it's gone way down hill. The quality of the food has declined, fries not getting cooked enough or burgers with soggy lettuce. The service is far from friendly and even further from efficient. Haven't been inside since before Covid but if the outside tells you anything about the inside, I'm good. I'm not really sure why, but I'm actually a fan of this place. I don't eat beef, so can't comment on their steak burgers. I love their chicken sandwiches though, and of course the fries! The shakes are the best though. Especially the seasonal "'caramel apple" shake! Delicious! It's pretty cheap and is open late, which is helpful for when you catch a late movie at Celebration right down the road and want to get something to eat afterward other than taco bell. read more

I stopped here on my long drive home from Grand Rapids to Metro Detroit! I went through the drive through and the food came up pretty quick! I got a BBQ bacon burger which was pretty good! It was nice and hot and the fries were fresh! I just wish that there wasnt so much ice in the pop! It was filled to the brim so there werent too many sips. Not sure if the location is the problem or if they're just going downhill period. I started going to the one on the South side of town (for many years) and became a huge fan of the Frisco Melt. The bread was always perfectly grilled and they cut it in half and put it into a container that kept it warm for the drive home. Always satisfied. Started going to the one on the West side of town and I'll be damned if I can ever leave that place satisfied (and I'm really not that picky). First time, they shortchanged me and I didn't notice it until I pulled away and looked at the bills she handed me, wrapped up in the receipt and when I went into the store to get the remainder of my change, the manager and the girl who handed me the change started talking crap like I was a dique for even asking. All I did was tell the manager, who was at the counter, that I didn't get all my change and they acted like I was harassing them (I wasn't even annoyed about it, until I got the attitude). The 2nd time I went there, they got my order wrong after I had to "pull ahead" and wait for what felt like an eternity (was probably only about 10 minutes) because I was in a hurry to get somewhere. I'm not complaining about the wait, it's getting my order wrong that irritated me. 3rd time, I ordered a Frisco melt and the girl asked "do you want everything on that?", which I thought was an odd question to ask someone who ordered a signature item (A Frisco Melt is a Frisco Melt- if you want it different, you usually do the asking)- SO, I said "yes!" thinking I would get the Frisco Melty with "everything" it is supposed to come with. Nope, got it with a ton of lettuce, tomato and mayo- rendering it NO LONGER a Frisco Melt... By the way, every time I got the Frisco Melt from this West side location, the bread was overgrilled in the center and not grilled at all around the edges, like they grilled it with a torch or a branding iron or something. Not perfectly grilled nice and uniformly golden like they always were on the South side. Also, they don't even cut the sandwich or put it in a container anymore. It's cold by the time I scarf the fries (yes, I am one of those 'one thing at a time' eaters). 3 times I have said I would never go back to the West side location, but it's close to work and I am a sucker for punishment. My favorite place for shakes- they have more specially shakes than anywhere else in town, some of the best flavors that are out there. The location is pretty good too, not only are they right off of the highway but they are also near Cedar Street which is the main road through town. read more

Steak and shake was an ok place like I'd go again but not dine in again. It takes so much longer when dinning in (as expected) and the restaurant was so unclean. The booths werent cleaned when we were seated, and there was so much food on the ground. They also dropped salt and stuff on the ground and returned it to the table without washing it. But they still get 3 stars because the food was made well. The chicken was very crispy and good and the barbecue sauce gave it a nice kick. My boyfriend said his burger was really good and it looked very juicy. Also the staff was really nice well the 2 we talked to and one of the ladies joked around with us and it was pretty great experience just needs to be cleaned. read more

Would definitely give them zero if I could, the place is absolutely disgusting. I love stake' n shake and this place makes me never want to eat at one ever again. The outside is dirty trash everywhere with all the trash cans over flowing, but we decided to give them the benefit of a doubt and try inside. We walked in and and ordered at the first kiosk, after placing our order we went to sit down and there wasn't one clean table. Keep in mind they had only opened 30 minutes before this so this is left over from the night before. After seeing this i looked in the kitchen area and it was the same way on top of the cook not wearing gloves. I asked her for a refund and explained to her that there was nothing clean and she caught an attitude and told me it's not her job to clean it's Night Shift. There was also no health department score posted anywhere. If y'all now anyone in health inspection I would definitely get them in here. read more

Don't even want to give them one star!!!Horrible, rude customer service, we waited 45 minutes for our food and called 3 times as we were waiting for curbside pickup, got told they had the order and were working on it, then call back to cancel and the man we spoke to was incredibly rude, we asked about getting our money back, was told "you paid through the app, I don't know what to tell you, you didn't order with us, you ordered through the app". Extremely pissed off, not to mention we can't call our bank to freeze the transaction because it's a sunday. Never eating there again, and we will never tell anyone to go there again. read more

I love Steak N Shake! I was very lucky to have it in the town where I went to college. It's a great place to get a good meal with one person or a group. No fancy dishes or expensive choices, just good ol' American food and affordable prices! My husband had never been to a Steak N Shake before and one time he was visiting me at MSU I took him there. Needless to say, he's a fan as well. I love their hamburgers and I especially love their milkshakes. They have great salads, sides, and other great choices for a meal. This was my first time at a Steak and Shake. It was a weekend, so it was on a kids eat free day. It was very busy, but the staff was all but understaffed. Our waitress took forever just to get us our waters, and our food took a good 30 minutes to get to our table, on top of the long wait for our beverages. There was actually a couple that came in shortly after we had been seated that ended up leaving after waiting in their booth for about 20 minutes without having any server come to their table to ask for the basics(beverages). The floor manager ended up picking up the slack of the regular servers, and she kicked their ass. She handled double the tables, including our own, and got us the things we were unable to get from our regular server. Someone at our table actually had to tell our server that another table was really wanting their checks - her response was "What? Who?" All in all, the food was mediocre at best, and definitely not worth the wait and annoyance. I will end up giving a different building of this restaurant a chance at some point, but this experience wasn't very good. read more

We stopped at the Lansing Steak n Shake on Edgewood Blvd at 11:50 am.We were seated right away and served our drinks within 5 minutes. The problem started when I finally received my cup of Chili 15 minutes after our drinks. My wife who ordered 3 Chicken Tenders with Fries or my Beef Hotdog was never served!! After waiting 40 minutes for our food and not getting it, we asked to speak with the Manager of the restaurant. All she did for the next 10 minutes was make excuse after excuse. She blamed everything on the corporation, the high school kids working there, and not enough employees. I might mention that the restaurant was only 40% full with at least 10 employees working at the time. The manager even ask us...."would you have me place your order ahead of someone else"? Just as those words came out of her mouth, the elderly couple who came in and sat down next to us, was served 2 double cheeseburgers!!!! OUR FOOD WAS STILL NO WHERE IN SITE!! We finally decided to cut our losses and leave. We called the corporation and informed them of our experience and ALL WE RECEIVED WAS A THANK YOU FOR INFORMING THEM OF THE PROBLEM, AND NOTHING FOR OUR TIME WASTED!! I suggest that you do not waste your time at a Steak n Shake restaurant and visit a Bob Evans or McDonalds instead.They at least seem to care about their customers! Maybe we should consider an internet BOYCOTT of Steak n Shake and then maybe they would be concerned about their customer's experience and not their profit margin!! read more

Breakfast is a disaster here. I should restate ... If there are more than 2 people in your dining group your breakfast will be wrong and cold. My wife and I tried this one time and no special orders and it came out much better. So we decided to try it this morning with our family of four adults and two kids. We had to go up to get water, and hunt down a waitress for coffee. Some meals came out ok but others we had to get fixed cause they came out wrong and the biscuits and gravy all came out cold. Simple things like getting a biscuit instead of a slider and not getting pico de gallo on a skillet. There were at tops four or five tables at the same time and at least 6 waitstaff. read more

This is probably one of the worst restaurant experiences that I have ever had. It was a little busy so it took them a while to seat us which is understandable and that didn't affect my rating but it's what followed that was terrible. After we were seated we waited a good 20 minutes before we asked someone cleaning a nearby table who our waiter was. She went to the back and called for the waiter for table #65. All of the other waiters who were just hanging out behind the drinks area scattered and hid in the back room. Every time I come in , it just gets worse. I got seated right away, but no one came to take my order for 15 minuites. Yes, I timed it. Even getting a glass of water after telling 2 waitress', took 20 minuites! I ordered a Patty Melt the way it should be, with Swiss cheese, NOT AMERICAN. Ialso ordered onion rings & a Dark Chocolate Shake. Patty Melt came 1/2 hour after the water. So now Im at 50 minuites! I asked for a to go cup for my shake as I hardly drank any of it. We had to sit in the line for 20 minutes just to order, once we got to order we could not hear the person speaking at all, he was quite. So we got to the window and we payed, when we got out food we had 3 fries and we were only supposed to have two fries and onion rings so we had to wait for those for another 4 minutes, we didn't have our two shakes so we also had to wait for those, then we realized we didn't have a burger and two different people had to come out and ask what burger we needed. I like the food here, but I visited on 02/09/20 at 3pm, and the waitstaff was just SCREAMING across the restaurant. It was horrible. I am 10 minutes into my visit and I already know every employee by name just from them yelling. It is not even busy. They are less than 10 feet away from eachother, and are screaming about an employee named Avery who is late. When Avery walks in, she looks too high to be working and drugged up.. they continue to scream about dirty tables, and one of the employees is walking around cleaning while talking on her cell phone. The only employee who seemed to be doing their job is our server Kevin. Every single female employee has continued to scream and avoid doing their jobb our whole visit. EXTREMELY unprofessional. I'm 49 years old, it's safe to say I've been dining out for the last 45 years and this place is easily the worst dining experience I have had. The food was terrible, it took 33 minutes to get our meals, the floors were as filthy as the servers uniform. I needed to use restrooms but the men's room reeked of urine.
