Just got up and left after waiting for a server to come by, she never came to the table. What bothered me the most is 2 managers were talking in a booth behind us and never got up to get us a server or stop us from leaving. If the managers dont care, why would a server care. I usually order burgers and fries from here through Door Dash and so far my food has been great.. I only left out the extra star because I was charged for two orders of fries on my recent order and didn't receive both orders of fries. They returned the difference to my debit card so it's all good. Other than that I love their food. read more

Just pulled through the drive-through with the wife and ordered two milkshakes with no toppings. When we pulled up to the window we saw the drive-thru attendant preparing the milkshakes and realizing that we had requested no toppings. To circumvent the situation, the worker quickly pulled the cherries out of the shakes with his bare hands, ate the cherries and licked the whip cream remnants from his fingers. We decided that he could have the shakes and simply left. We will never return to this Steak N Shake! read more

My teenagers love Steak and Shake but the Lexington , KY location has terrible service . Tonight we were seated and waited 20-25 min. I finally went to the register and asked for the manager . A staff member who was sitting at the register playing on her phone told me he was in the back . After a 2 minute pause I asked her if she could get him. Then the person standing beside her told me he was the manager and he has no idea when we would be served because his server called in sick . He was rude and completely unconcerned. I normally visit probably once a month in the drive thru. It was a Thursday night and my little sister and I decided to dine in. We were never waited on. At all. We waited there standing for about 5 minutes. The manager even looked at us, but he was at the cash register. Another family walked in front of us to go to the register, which is fine, we weren't ordering to leave, we were dining in. I made eye contact with numerous staff members and all ignored us. The sign says "Please wait to be seated" but no one ever sat us. I grabbed two menus and sat at the booth closest to us for about five minutes and no one came. This is awful service and I guarantee that I won't be back. I understand that Steak and shake can be busy, but not so busy that you forget and ignore customers and leave them with a terrible review of your restaurant. read more

Literally the worst customer service! Waited in The drive through FOR 35 MINUTES when there were only 3 cars ahead of me for just a drink. I pulled out of the drive through line and went inside and no one came to the register for 10 minutes! I couldn't get anyone's attention. By time someone finally Came to the register there was a line of people waiting to pay wrapped around the dining area. I gave the lady my drink order and she came back with the wrong size. With a group of 6 we went into here , and waited in the lobby for 30-45 minutes, while the manager was being extremely rude to us all so we then go through the drive through and wait another 30 minutes in line then get up to order wait another 10 minutes for the woman taking our order being extremely rude. Went for breakfast for the first time and wasn't disappointed. I got the portobello and sausage skillet and crepes with nutella. When I was younger I used to LOVE steak and shake. Hell I still do, but next time IF there ever is a next time. It'll be drive thru only. We came a 1:59, our 'lovely' waitress didn't even come to take our drink order until 2:15. When she did finally come she didn't greet us or anything. She walked over with her pad, and said "what are you having". My boyfriend answered first and gave her his drink order, she just kept looking at him and after about 5 seconds she said "and to eat?" There was no option to get our drinks and have a look at the menu (even tho it's a burger place and we had been there for 15 minutes with no service). They weren't even slammed, it was early afternoon on a Monday. After lunch and before dinner. They were pretty mellow. Waitress was just horrible. So she took our order at 2:15, at 2:46 exactly we got our food. My burger was cold, cheese didn't even melt. Fries like warm. My boyfriend went to complain and the manager stated the order had only been in 8 mins ... now idk about y'all but 2:15 to 2:45 is 30 minutes ... so what did she do with our ticket? Needless to say after 1 bite of my burger and no customer service we just left. Same woman laughed as we left the establishment... just horrible customer service. I am being generous giving them two stars. I like the good here - if you can ever get served! We sat for about 15 minutes before anyone took our order, and now about 45 minutes later, we are still waiting on our good. We have watched as other people have not been greeted or approached for their order. When you go to a good Steak and Shake, it is enjoyable. This particular Steak 'n Shake is very dirty and has poor service. The floors are disgusting, and after waiting 10 minutes to even be acknowledged to be seated, they seated us at a dirty table. They're usually great, but my most recent experience was awful enough that I had to write this. Mostly positive past experiences are the only thing keeping this above one star. Arrived around 9:50 pm, after deciding on Steak n Shake vs. Gold Star Chili nearby, which I regret. The drive-thru line extended nearly out of the parking lot, and it was about 10:15 before we pulled up to the speaker. At first I thought they were just busy, but when I realized how slow the line was moving, and then started trying to order, I figured out why. I ordered my first burger, and speaking loud and clear on a very quiet night, said "with fries, no drink." "Did you want fries with that?" "Yes, just no drink, please." "It comes with a drink..." "I don't want the drink. I've ordered plenty here without drinks." "Uh... It comes with a drink." "Fine, just don't give it to me, or I'll pour it out or something." "Oh, wait, no, I've got it with just the fries now." Again, I order another burger that's been on the menu forever, the "Wisconsin Buttery." "What do you want on that?" "I guess as it comes? I've never had to specify before." "...[long silence]... Uh..." "Just what it's got in the picture. What it comes with every time I've ordered it." "...[another long silence]" "Meat, cheese, grilled onions?" "Oh, okay." I order two more burgers, more or less repeating the second experience. Having to specify and clarify multiple times that I don't want drinks. This process took many times longer than it ever has, and I've been coming here a few times a month for years. No wonder the line was to the street. Eventually we get to the window, where it looks like the manager has taken over? Someone more effecient and better dressed than the rest of the employees, at least. He's very quick, gets the order out the window, is very polite, even told me to have a nice day, though I didn't get a receipt. Not sure if that was his fault, or someone else's. In the end, as I sit down to eat my burger, I realize it.. doesn't have anything on it. It's a mostly plain, undercooked burger with a small scoop of guacamole in the middle, and none of the usual seared crust that actually sets Steak N Shake above, say, Wendy's or Frisch's. Instead I had a limp, tasteless patty with nothing on it. One of the other burgers suffered a similar fate, though the other two were perfectly fine? Not sure what the problem was there, but it was the icing on the cake that led me here to write this. I love steak and shake, but the service at this location is sometimes lacking. About a week ago it was getting late and I needed something to eat in a bad way. At this time of night just about everywhere else was closed or about to be. I knew that this steak and shake was 24 hours, so I came here. When I arrived there was a hand written not in the door stating simply that they would be closing in 30 minutes. I was starved to I went in anyway. I waited to be seated, and despite the two waitresses walking by numerous times was not even addressed once. I decided to sit at the counter to see if I could be helped there. While waiting to be served one of the waitresses came loudly pronouncing they would be closing in a half hour. Eventually a man I assumed to be the manager asked if I had been helped. He ended up serving me. When I asked why they were closing he was confused and took the sign of the door. My food was good and service was good because the manager took care of me. This being said I found the whole thing unprofessional. The managers name was Robby and the rude waitresses name was Teeva. read more

We stopped in after a long evening of shopping with kids, as we'd promised them a treat before heading home. went last to dinner there with my daughter and grandsons. I thought it was nice and clean. The servers were friendly and the prices were very resonable. It looked kinda like the 50's and had pictures of old picture of the Steaks n shakes. I had the triple slider cheesesteaks w/fies and a salty carmel shake, my youngest grandson had the mini corndogs w/fries, the other 2 had the burger and fries plus birthday cake shakes. 13 minute wait to get to the speaker. When I finally did, the lady on the headset informed me that "it would be about a 30-minute wait" and asked me if that would be alright. I cannot recall one time that it's taken less than 15 minutes to get through the drive-thru which is excessive for a "fast" food restaurant. Staff is unprofessional and never offers to discount meals after making customers wait a ridiculous amount of time. If the problem is understaffing, hire more people. The Frisco burger isnt what it used to be w/ lettuce and tomato, but it is still good. Dont try to make it home w hot fries they will def be cold by the time you make it home from the drive thru. Usually a really good eat, but this time was terrible. Had a group of 10, didn't get order taken until 30 minutes in, then got to wait ANOTHER 30 minutes for just our drinks. After another 10 minutes we got our food, and my burger had mustard on it. I hate mustard, and mustard isn't even on the menu. Ate about half the burger, then some of our group decided they wanted to-go boxes, and after around 20 minutes we just called our waitress over, I think her name was Shay. I frequent this location. The food has always been good, but the service is inconsistent. Sometimes great, sometimes very slow. I will say that this Steak N Shake is super busy a lot of the time. For example, I stopped by about 9:30 pm last night, Friday night, to grab a late burger, and just wanted to go through the drive through, but the line wrapped around the building, and after waiting for 10 minutes and hardly moving, I decided to give up, but it's understandable because they do make everything grilled to order. They were also busy inside. My favorite burger that they used to have, but discontinued was the Jerk Double cheeseburger, with Jamaican jerk seasoning. Wish they'd keep that one all the time, but I think they rotate special burgers and I doubt they sell a ton of that one, but who knows? I'll continue going to this one for the foreseeable future unless something goes very awry. read more

I am a parent with the jackson city school group who took a group of 10 preschoolers for their first field trip. We picked lexington so as to expose them to our big city to the west. We called steak and shake to arrange for the kids and make sure seating was available. They were awful they refused to assist us. Kept us on hold too long. We're simply rude a couple times and failed to offer us assistance. I generally like the place and thought it would be great for the kids. They finally said we could go thru the drive thru. We went to parkette and it rocked. Anyway, I understand that a resturant does not have to be friendly or open to kids. I however will make sure that the families of the kids know and hopefully they won't have any school business ever. That's a few thousand meals a year. As a business owner I find generating business to be my priority but to each his or her own. read more

This USED to be an okay place for a quick meal. Those days appear to be long gone. Ordered a simple milkshake to eat while my partner had a burger meal. 30 minutes later (after he'd already finished) it finally arrived. I refused it and the excuse from the staff was: "Well, it's happy hour." If you can't make a simple dessert in a reasonable amount of time, then you need to get out of the business. The restaurant is "faux" clean. And beware of sitting in the middle booths. They're all almost connected and you will ALWAYS have a douchebag using his table as a drum, making all the other tables shake. The line to check-out is always long and crawls at a snail's pace. Why have two registers if you're barely ever going to use them? We eat out nearly everyday. This place has permanently been scratched off our list. WORST EXPERIENCE ever at this location. All I wanted was a cheap me with my boyfriend and 3 year old daughter. I hadn't eaten in almost 6 hours and I'm on a diet and ready to for my cheat day. I was sooooooo hungry. We go in and it's half full. No problem. No wait. Sit down order drinks and immediately after order 3 burgers and chicken fingers. And then we wait. And wait and wait. 30 minutes go by. Our server Moses never came and checked in. Just kept walking by and saying it's almost up. I call him over and say it's been 30 minutes how much longer? He goes and checks comes back and says they are just now working on it. 30 minutes and it's just now on the grill! And he didn't even come back with a manager. I'm hungry and my daughter is hungry so needless to say we leave and take our business to chick fa la. We had planned on shakes too. So disappointed. But then it gets worse! I call the store to speak to a manager and the cashier picks up, I ask for a manager and in the background I hear "it's for you Isaac" and he responds with "not now". Seriously? You can't take my call? And then leave your employee to deal with me? That's awful. I hung up because I didn't want her to face my wrath because you can't take my call. I have always eaten here. And never had a problem. I even told people on the way out I had waited 30 minutes and didn't get food because they walked in with a baby and I didn't want her to starve. This was horrible. read more
