Steak 'n Shake of a fantastic restaurant. I typically go to Steak n' Shake via ordering from DoorDash. I love their Frisco Melt and cheese fries. I also love their Cookies and Cream milk shake. I've been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and they still have high quality and delicious food! My only complaint is that this restaurant isn't open 24/7 anymore. I'm often craving Steak 'n Shake during the late night hours. I'm sure that myself and the rest of our Space Coast community would really appreciate it if they changed their hours back. read more

I decided to go to Steak and Shake on Hwy 520 Merritt Island for a milkshake. I was in a hurry and went inside to order. There are no servers. You order at a keypad station. I saw they had a Dreamsicle shake , Classic vanilla/orange , nostalgic flavors. It was $5.99 for a medium shake. I placed the order and turned around to face the restaurant. It was dirty. Food on the floors, syrup and debris on the pick up counter. They did not say there was a dreamsicle bar in the middle of the shake and when I put the large straw into the cup I almost choked on the wood ice cream stick!!! The flavor was so artificial and chemical tasting. I had to discard the shake. I do not recommend this restaurant. Maybe this is just the place for some people. Maybe the other flavors are better. Oh my gosh. They are using beef tallow to fry their Onion Rings and Fries, soooo good and better for you than processed seed oils. I had to ask them how long they have been using tallow and they said 6 months. It was a completely different experience from prior visits. They are also using grass finished beef instead of grain finished beef and you can tell the difference immediately. Soooo good!!!! read more

Haven't been here in years and most of it has changed. The burgers were good. Hot, fast and tasty. Same with onion rings and fries. Ordering at a kiosk is a turn off for us and having to use a QR code for soda seems juvenile. Also the tables were sticky. Employees were friendly and not bad for what it is. Great food, terrible inside service. The drive-thru is perfectly great, but the inside is a mess. Nice paintings all around, but heres where it goes downhill. The touch pad kiosks dont work most of the time, and when the kiosk doesnt work, you have to ask a cook to put in the order. This system sucks. Every time this happens, my order is wrong and they dont correct it. Moral of the story, dont go inside. read more

Steak 'n Shake used to be a go to place for some well priced food. I remember going to the Daytona Beach location when I was a kid and it was such an experience. Now with the mobile/online ordering and forget about table service it has just become an overpriced McDonald's. There is no real service. Tip for this location. If you are going to eat at the location, do not use the mobile app use their kiosk. They won't give you free refills. They just tell you sorry as you stare at the machine that requires a bar code that doesn't come on your mobile order. So will I come back here? Sure. Sometimes I forget to eat dinner and need a place that is still open. So they will get my business because of convenience. read more

Maybe all Steak 'n Shake's are created equal, but they certainly are not all managed and maintained. The way that the Merritt Island location is managed and performs definitely shows that the leadership and the staff care about the customers and their experience. Order: FRESH chicken finger combo with large fry and medium coke. Review: Wow! Fantastic! The chicken fingers were so good and fresh. HACK: ask them to make them fresh. It takes them a couple extra minutes (approximately 6 min) but it is totally worth it. So crispy and tender. Also, those shoestring fries are fantastic. Nothing like a nice coke to wash it all down. The wife and I pressed for time and looking to change it up from the typical fast food places like McDonald's and Burger King decided to stop at the Merritt Island Steak and Shake today. Have not been to one in a long time and was pleasantly surprised how much better it was than the other fast food places. They use a kiosk system so you customize your selection to exactly the way you want, the service was fast and friendly, they even brought our food to the table. The place was relatively clean. The prices on their burgers and fries are competitive with the other fast food places, but as far as I'm concerned the burgers and fries are far better. There is a less processed taste and feel to their food compared to the other fast food places. I recommend the Wisconsin buttery burger. Their shakes can't be beat, both in price and quality. Again, more homemade tasting and loaded with a wide selection of your favorite candy crumbles. I think I have just rediscovered my fast food fix in Merritt Island from now on, those others places are being crossed off my list for good, lol. read more

Out and about with a serious case of the late night munchies, Faith and I embarked on a mission to find the nearest open food joint. It was around 1 a.m., and a quick Yelp search provided the 3 usual suspects, which were the Waffle House (NO), Denny's (I WOULD RATHER STARVE), and Steak and Shake, which actually isn't half bad, depending on where you go. Nothing beats a late night burger and shake combo anyways, so a clear winner was chosen. The atmosphere was the normal red and white diner-esque motif that you'd find at any of the other locations, with vintage Steak and Shake photos adorning the walls. This particular location was clean and well-kept, no unswept floors, tables waiting to be cleared, or food particles scattered about. Usually during the late night shift, I've noticed that cleaning and tidying up can get a little lax in comparison to the busier hours, however this particular visit was a refreshing change from the norm. My Frisco Melt 'n' Fries Combo definitely hit the spot. The juicy, cheesy burger goodness topped with tangy frisco sauce and enveloped between two crispy, grilled sourdough bread pieces was devoured in no time, accompanied by thin, freshly cooked fries. Faith went all out with the Prince of Royale Steakburger and Fries, which was huge, by the way, but that can be expected, when your burger is topped with melty cheese, thick, crispy, bacon, and a fried egg. Needless to say, if you're watching your cholesterol intake, this may not be the burger for you. However Faith and I are always going to be THAT couple with no shame in our game as far as food is concerned, so I wasn't the least bit surprised when she tackled this burger like a ravenous frat boy. We ordered the seasonal Pumpkin Spice Shake to share (not like we needed it, but who cares) and it was THE perfect dessert choice to top of this late-night food binge. Smooth, velvety, and just the right amount of richness and pumpkin spice flavor. Bravo. ROCCO. That's her name, and the main reason why I give this rare chain restaurant 5 star review. She's literally everything you could hope for in a waitress. All of the locals knew her by name, and spoke to her as if she were a member of their family. From start to finish, she was on top of everything, from answering questions, making suggestions, drink refills, without at all being overbearing or intrusive. Everybody has that one quality...that one THING that comes naturally and makes them shine. In my opinion, Rocco is very gifted in her craft. This location has sadly gone down hill... I write this update only after having been to this establishment, at this location, over the course the last couple of months. It pains me to write that this paritcular SnS is now pretty much awful. The wait for a table is way too long, considering when you enter there are obvious tables open and waiting for patrons in seats. The wait for a waiter or waitress to show up and take your drink order is painfully long (it's a fast food joint, for crying out loud!) The other night we waited to the point I had to ask another waitress to please get our actual waiter or waitress to help - this gal ended up waiting on us instead. The food, as usual, I will say is decent enough. It's fast food so why criticize unless its unedible. The shakes we got were as always tasty, no complaints there. But the rest of the experience? Well, both bathrooms were in dire need of cleaning, the floor needed a desperate mop to remove the obvious stickiness, and the staff that was working there just seemed not to care. It was certainly weird and it was certainly unimaginable, but that was what I experienced - complete apathy. OK Steak and Shake is an occasional guilty pleasure. I enjoy munching on a double steak burger and some skinny fries. You have to order salt because the fries often come with no salt on them, and they need it for flavor. I was driving through this area on a recent Saturday evening, I happened to spot this Steak & Shake restaurant on my way to my hotel and remembered that someone mentioned in a recent Yelp talk thread that their shakes were very good. I went through the drive through and ordered a Portobello and Swiss Steakburger, fries and a vanilla shake. Everything was very tasty, really hit the spot, portions weren't too large, and at about $7.50 for everything the price was definitely right! This place reminds me somewhat of a Johnny Rockets... nostalgic diner serving up burgers and shakes. The waitress was extremely nice and quite helpful. I had to read through the menu a couple of times because everything looked so good to me. The theme for the night ended up being a 'butter' theme... not intentional at all. I finally decided on the Wisconsin buttery burger. Strange combination for some but I do love butter on my meat! It consisted of two meat patties with cheese, grilled onions and butter. For fifty nine cents more, I switched my french fries for onion rings instead. I felt that it was such a scant portion of onion rings but they were nice and crunchy. The star of the evening ended up being the butter pecan shake. YUM! This was such a delicious sweet treat with surprising little bits of crunchy pecans. I want to come back to try the limited caramel apple shake but this one was so good that I might have to reorder a butter pecan shake. This place might mean more to me than the locals because there are no locations in Cali. I must return to try other items on the menu. Hadn't been here for 3 years. It's still mediocre. While I'll continue to eat here when in town, I was totally disappointed they no longer serve Romano or Parmesan cheese with Chili 3 Ways. Look. This IS a pasta dish. No cheese to sprinkle? How cheap can you get? Waitress said or suggested this is a SnS corporate philosophy. I know at some places you have to ask for it. Awesome food here. The inside seating can take a while sometimes and the parking lot is odd to enter from some directions, but those are not enough to frop this place a star. What I did drop a star for was my recent experiences in the drive-thru. On at least 3 ocassions I have ordered something, repeated the order, heard them repeat it and ended up with something wrong in my bag. Sometimes I get charged, sometimes not. What has happened the Steak 'n Shake on Merritt Island?? My wife and I have gone here since 2001, when we lived on Merritt Island and off & on over the years. When ever we have ventured to the island from Titusville, we have always been excited to go to Steak 'n Shake. Fresh made burger with those crispy edges and we love their shakes (Ultimate banana for me ). Sadly, the service has drastically dropped. Our visit a few weeks ago, wasn't the best, but they were busy and looked under staffed. I always give a place another try, to compare to the previous visit. Well, today was that day. The wait to be seated wasn't bad, the hostess/waitress that seat us. There was no smile or welcome to Steak 'n Shake and, please come this way or follow me. She just grabbed menus and walked off; I said to my wife "I guess we are going this way?" As she put the menus on the table and mumbled 'someone will be with you shortly', as she walked away without even looking at us. Our waitress came took our food order, as we knew what we wanted. My wife told the waitress, that we wanted to order shakes at the end, to go. She said ok and I would assume that she would of written that done on our ticket as a reminder. Our food came and there was no issue there. As time went on we ate & chatted. Our waitress never checked on us, to see if our meal was ok. My wife had finished her soda and moved the glass to the tables edge for the waitress to see. Nope, she didn't, as she walked by several times. I had to get her attention and ask 'if my wife could have a refill'. Then after some time, she brought the bill and No mention of 'would you like to put your order in for those shakes to go?' By this time we had enough and just wanted to leave. Cashing out with Miss Sad Sack Misery was no fun either. The floors were not nice(greasy, kinda sticky), food and silverware under tables and benches too. I doubt we will eat in there again, any time soon. I know the food/hospitality industry is not easy, but you have to put on your work face & smile. Good customer service and interaction go a long way. read more

Love Steak 'n Shake. I don't live within their footprint now, so I always add it to our list when in town. This visit I strayed from the usual steak burger to the taco salad I spotted on the $4 meal menu. It was really, really good. The presentation was pretty, which caught my eye while passing another table on the way to ours. Lettuce on the bottom, with red tortilla straps, tomato, mixed shredded cheese, ground beef (or chicken), and drizzled a sauce that tasted like ranch. I caved and ordered my favorite shake, a malted chocolate. It came in a tall shake glass. The shake was topped with whipped cream and a cherry. It wasn't served with a silver cup, as in years past. The shake was excellent. They provide a spoon and straw, so I opted to slowly sip the thick shake using the straw. The others in my party ordered the steak burgers with fries. My husband always gets the cheese fries, then sprinkles the seasoned salt on it. Yummy! The new $4 menu is really a deal. Where else can you get a steak burger and fries for $4? New to the menu for me are mini burgers, and a wide assortment of burgers with different toppings, such as bacon and guacamole. For me the original steak burger, and now the taco salad, will always be my favorites. read more
