**INITIAL REVIEW** Out of all the restaurants still in business in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area of the Space Coast, the one that has truly lasted the test of time is The Burger Inn. Located on US-1, The Burger Inn is a testament to the city's history as the restaurant was first founded back in 1952. That was a time when Melbourne was the eastern point for cattle herding in Central Florida. US-1 was still a dirt road back then. As a matter of fact, The Burger Inn is one of the five-oldest restaurants still in business in Brevard County. By age, it is the second-youngest (Dixie Crossroads in Titusville, FL is younger while Ashley's, Lone Cabbage Fish Camp, and the Old Fish House Bar & Grille are older). The age The Burger Inn shows is more a testament to its delightfully tacky charm more so than be dated. In short, their age equates to experience and wisdom that still makes them a popular choice amongst restaurant-goers anywhere, both locals and tourists alike. The Burger Inn is located on the eastside of US-1, just a little ways north of the Eau Gallie Art District, but just a little ways south of the Big Orange roadside attraction. Take note that the entrance into The Burger Inn is a "right turn only," so patrons going south will need to turn in at the light before or after The Burger Inn and take the residential roads to it. The Burger Inn, as mentioned earlier, is delightfully tacky in its charm. It has the updated design of a 1960s drive-thru diner with its bright colors of the time. Think of a lot of red and yellow, neon lights, and black-and-white checker floors. If it further helps, think of movies like Grease. The majority of seating is outdoors with stone chairs and tables which were famously used in old-school garden parks of the 1970s with their tile mosaic designs. The seating is shaded and have roll-down canvas covers to block sunlight and wind just in case. The bar area is still intact with all the old-school cookery right in front of you. But take note people were "smaller" back then so if you are bigger or taller person, sitting at the bar will be uncomfortable. This is a burger dive bar so most of your food will be of that preference. But unlike other places, they still place precedence on their classic burgers, sides, and milkshakes. You can truly attest to the rest of their menu if their basics are delicious, and I will say their regular cheeseburger, fries, and shake are more than good, but have that satisfaction from eating a good ole' fast food meal back when such was done with actual care. That doesn't mean The Burger Inn has not kept with the times. They have updated their menu to include present day offerings such as chili-cheese fries, onion rings, mozerella cheese sticks, and much more. Finally on the food, they do have a challenge in which you eat a 10-patty cheeseburger, a large order of chili-cheese fries, and a 32 oz. shake in less than 30 minutes, you will get a free t-shirt and your meal is free. If you fail, you pay $40 for the attempt (which is not bad for a price if you think about it). Actually, everything on their menu is priced decently. A burger is about $5, which is fair given inflation, but worth it when you are eating a wholesome old-fashioned burger. Probably the only Issue worth addressing is the restroom. Remember how I said the bar seems to be made for people at a time when they were smaller. The same goes for the restroom. It is literally only a single unisex room that somehow is smaller than the space in a portable potty. The toilet literally runs under the sink. Talk about a tight squeeze. Despite that minute details, I have never been disappointed eating here at The Burger Inn. They've always been consistent with their food, especially during a time when specialty groups seem to naysay on what we can or cannot eat. Ergo, I am giving them five-out-of-five stars. Definitely give The Burger Inn a chance. read more

It's been 6 months since my initial review, and I've eaten at Burger Inn now four times. The sign out front says "Best Burger In Town". I think I have to agree. I've ordered a different burger each time and each one was a fulfilling, flavorful experience. I may NEVER get to taste any of their other menu items because the burgers are THAT GOOD. I love Burger Inn and there is always a chance you will have bad food no matter where you go and no matter how many times you visit. I hate making this review because I'm such a huge fan. I made a pick up order and only live 5 minutes away. That being said, the chicken nuggets were severely overcooked. The burger was drier compared to what I normally get. The fries were plentiful as usual, but they were barely warm. I will give this place another chance, but 2 bad experiences in a row deter me from ever going back. read more

We found a new restaurant to take our guests! The Burger Inn is such a nice surprise because it's got a great '50s atmosphere with its decor, excellent and friendly customer service (by servers Lisa & Jodi), very affordable prices, and delicious food! The majority of the seating is outside. I was worried that I might be too cold or too wind-blown to enjoy my meal, but neither was a concern after we sat down at one of the concrete round patio tables, because the whole outdoor seating was enclosed with wall-like screens! There IS indoor seating for a few people at a diner-like bar/counter. I am very impressed with the vegan options: MULTIPLE types of vegan burgers, vegan mayo, and vegan cheese! The Fried Mushrooms were fantastic, and hot to the last bite! The Sweet Potato Tots were perfect (the right size, browned just right, and more than enough)! I am also impressed with hand sanitizer being on every table! They also have known natural insect deterrents (bag of water with a penny inside) hanging/scattered throughout the place! In addition to seating at the indoor or outdoor bar/counter for one, there was also a TABLE for one! Cute and classic diner that feels like a blast from the past. Reasonable prices and excellent service. The burgers were good - especially the John Wayne. TERRIBLE. Waited over an hour for 2 Burgers and a side of fries. We asked about our order at the 40 minute point, and was told we're checking on it now. And then at the 1 hour point I stood at their counter till we got a response on what was going on because multiple people who ordered after us received their orders already and had eaten and left. The staff lied to our face and said they do the orders in order. Then another 15 minutes later our TO-GO order was given to us. It was a frozen burger with frozen fries and zero seasoning. I wouldn't recommend coming here. You're better off ordering from a porta-potty and hoping to get sh*t. They also told us TO-GO orders are not their priority, which is completely backwards from conventional operations. read more

The year is 1952. The foundation is being laid for a little burger joint to rise up out of the Florida sand. At the same time, Mr Potato Head was born. The first Corvette prototype was also born. I Love Lucy was a brand new tv show. The typical new house cost about $9,000! Life was pretty good. And soon, the food would be dang good! Hungry families would park their brand new Hudsons and shiny Chevies side by side, staying seated, to be served by young ladies who'd 'hop' or walk or roller skate between these customers, taking their food orders. They'd come to be known as Car Hops. Fast forward 71 years! It'd been a long time since this teenager bit a burger & slurped a shake while on a Burger Inn date. It felt real good to be back. Of course, I got a Cheeseburger, all the way with a heaping side of Onion Rings. I was grinning from ear to ear as I sunk my teeth into that virtual taste of my adolescence. This is our Saturday get away. I hate to complete a review because then Mike, owner, will get too big and we will have to wait to be seated. However it would not be fair if I do not review this burger. Seriously though. One of the best burgers we have had and we are military and been all around this world. We love the burgers and fries and I sometimes splurge on my cholesterol and order the cheese fries and chocolate milkshake. Whenever, my daughter comes home from college I ask where she wants to eat and of course the answer is Burger Inn. And after 10 years of patronage we have watched the place expand and is now even better than ever. Heck, if your just feeling plan lazy or no seats available you can stay in vehicle and beep and they will come to your car for order. What more can be said that hasn't been covered in nearly 300 reviews? It's hard not to find tremendous appeal in this local gem, though the outside bathroom closet was absolutely terrifying. Burgers were outstanding, big thick slabs of bacon, shredded lettuce, high quality cheese, onion rings that are the classy BATTERED ones and not the cheap, dry, yucky bread-crumbed ones. Immaculately clean for an outdoor spot with well maintained seating, great classic rock music spinning, and friendly, excellent service. I love that they open at 10 AM (!) and that so many people are THERE that early jonesin' for a burger alongside me. It's almost mid July, and yet, under the shaded patio, along the highway with a steady breeze and an icy Diet Coke within reach, well, this is just the perfect casual spot to show up after a glorious morning at the beach, sand between your toes. We were looking for a good burger place and ran across the yelp listing for this place. It was a little bit of a drive, 40 minutes one way but we decided to take the trek and check it out. Right away we saw the classic Cadillac out front. Sure it has seen better days but so have all of us that were built around that time have. We say outside at a small bar top setup. There is plenty of outside seating as well as some indoor seating as well. Addy quickly came and took our drink order and provided us our menus. I loved the smaller menu. This place knows what they do best and they don't try to overdo it with a complex menu. The best part of the menu were the advertising on the back for other local businesses. I love a place that tries to keep the local economy going. We started with the fried mushrooms. Yum very good. Even my daughter who doesn't tend to like mushrooms enjoyed how juicy they were. Next came our burgers. I had the Blue Moon burger, my wife knew she wanted the Elvis before we even arrived, and my daughter selected the John Wayne burger. She was such an adventurous pilgrim. Purger were cooked to order, made as expected, and loved by all!!! We all shared a fry basket as well. Between the three of us there was enough food plus just a little. We tried to let any of it go to waste ;) When I am in the area I will be coming back again. Just a note, they have a Richie Burger, Big Bopper Burger, but no Buddy Holly burger. I really hate to diss a beloved local burger joint but this was by far the worst burger I have ever had*. The patty was so thin and flavorless. The bun was smashed and grilled which did give some texture but I am not all about the greasy bun life. The best flavor came from the thick, beefy tomato. Even when I don't enjoy, I am the type to still eat, but with this one I just couldn't bring myself to finish. I added some of the seasoning salt but did not help the lame burger. The chocolate milkshake was not great either. The fries were perfect, and the only thing I could enjoy. I just don't get how this place gets such fantastic reviews. I get it...there is a feel of nostalgia...but did not enjoy the experience. The service was friendly and quick, and from what I could tell I was pleased with overall cleanliness. Along with good fries and well stocked tables. I will give credit where credit is due. Eating outside next to the busy road was not the peaceful outdoor environment. The road noise was irritating but not as obnoxious as the two oblivious clowns that thought it was cool to run their loud, overbearing after market mufflers while they were eating and standing outside for an additional 15 minutes letting the entire restaurant listen to the obnoxious noise. When they finally departed, one of the intolerable clowns decided to intentionally backfire his car making us feel like an eardrum was blown out. Totally relieved when they were finally out of earshot. Obviously, not fault of the employees other then they just looked on and smiled tolerating the obnoxious noise the entire time. It really negatively impacted the experience, and even shows what likely goes on around this joint. This was experienced mid day on a Friday; I can only imagine the crowd on a Friday or Saturday night. Just putting it out there. The Burger Inn, 1819 N. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne, FL, 32935 2.5 Stars I am the furthest thing from a turdiform human there is and I didn't get this way just eating cake. I love a good burger with just the right amount of grease on the onion rings, so when The Burger Inn popped up on my random name generator I was already licking my lips as I headed out the door. This place is run by Mike and for years this restaurant has satisfied a niche in our community and I have previously given it 4-Stars. However, this trip was not up to snuff. Sometimes grease is your friend. If you buy food to go and there are grease marks on the bottom of the food bag when you get home...you know you have some tasty fast-food grub! Other times? Not so much. I get that food costs are high and perhaps some corners need to be cut at times, however, I frown upon serving leftovers in a restaurant. Daylynn is my charming carhop today and she is Mike's daughter. I don't know precisely how long Mike has owned this place, but it has been here with different owners for the last 50 years or so. I ordered The Elvis, a Double Bacon Cheeseburger with Chili, a side of onion rings, and a foot-long chili dog. By the time I got home, the cuisine had left some aforementioned grease splotches and I was grinning and licking my chops with anticipation as I unbagged the victuals. Snapping a few pictures, I began to dig in. First up on the Big Boy palate was The Elvis. This is a hamburger truly fit for The King as it is one with bacon, chopped onion, cheddar cheese, peanut butter, pickle, lettuce and tomato. We all know The Pelvis' affinity for Peanut Butter. The bun was toasted to perfection, the burger was overcooked but the chili peanut butter was fun. Even though the chili is very low grade. I'm kind of with the Kid from Mississippi on this one as I love peanut butter and think it goes with just about everything. I am sure Elvis would approve except for the actual meat. Moving on, I unwrapped the Double Bacon Cheeseburger with Chili along with the rings. Again, the bun was toasted to perfection, and the burger was cooked poorly, but the chili was what I would surmise to be a low-grade of food service canned slop. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that good either. The onion rings saved this to be sure as they were sublime on the palate. This brings us to the final item, the foot-long chili dog. First of all, I would draw your attention to the picture of the dog in question. Do those ends look like that hot dog is fresh or like it is 5 days old? Does it not resemble the kind of fare one finds spinning endlessly in a 7-11 heat box near the smokeless tobacco and lotto scratchers? This is the reason for the rating. Thank you my fellow Yelpers for the recommendation. My nieces and I stopped at the Burger Inn for lunch on a Wednesday around noon. We sat outside at the bar area. The chairs swirl so the girls loved them. Food - A. My nieces each ordered a Jr. Cheeseburger, plain. I ordered a Double Cheeseburger with the works. All 3 of us were quite surprised how our tasty the burgers were. So juicy! The 3 of us also split a side of fries and 10 garlic parm wings. The side of fries was quite large and was more than enough for the 3 of us to split. Unfortunately, the wings weren't as much of a hit as the burgers. They were reasonably priced at $1/wing, but weren't anything special. However, the place is called the Burger Inn, not the Wing Inn. Service - A+. Service was top notch. I will definitely be back next time I am in the neighborhood and I recommend you do too. read more

Disappointed...we normally love this place. Paid $63 for two burgers, onion rings and tots...nothing special...one regular cheeseburger and one double and they seemed much smaller this time. Decent pricing for good quality burgers. I thought the fries could've been a little better since a lot were too crispy. Great service and the wait staff continuously checked up on us. I like the outdoor seating and vibes, but there were a few bugs that were out and about with us. I can imagine it'd be more bothersome in warmer weather. Over rated, over priced, greasy shoe string fries, a cholesterol overload. Long lines and during lunch slow service.

Came in on a Thursday evening, around 6pm, the place was the spot to be it seemed. They had outdoor seating, I was alone so I dined inside at the counter, old school diner type bar seating. Three guys behind the counter cooking and prepping were definitely nice and made sure I didn't wait at all, quality service. Tho the burger was ok for the quickness and being a basic frozen patty, it wasn't nice seeing frozen burger patties hit the flat top. For the quick service and vibe, it's ok, for a good burger, naaah I feel like with this place you get more of a vibe and time to hang out than focusing on the food quality.
