The servers will go by us and didn't even acknowledge the we were standing right there. The restrooms were dirty. This is the worst steak and shake I have ever been to the first time my burger was very pink in the middle and the fries were cold and the second (&last) time the burger was burnt and looked like it was just thrown together. I asked for mayonnaise and received a small plastic cup with one little squirt. Both times coming to this location the people who work there are rude and u can tell they don't want to be there. my husband and I go steak on average of once a week. today we went for lunch. I ordered a Frisco Melt, with no America cheese. I received a sandwich with one burger,some cheese on white toast. the description on the menu was a double burger. when I spoke about it to server she said it did have a double burger.She proceeded take the top slice of bread(it came sliced in half) and said you do have two burgers one on each side, two halves which when I went to school was one whole, not two burgers. she got another one after she talked to the manager. We Came to this location fathers day for dinner we used the drive thru about 7:30 the lady who was working the drive thru was very rude like she didnt want to be there. They forgot our chicken fingers when we told her she got mad at us. we ordered no onion on our burgers and they were loaded.. We decided to have a quick bite to eat here. The food was excellent but the cleanliness of the joint is less to be desired. You know how people nitpick small things? I try not to be like that in my reviews, but there was just too much going on. Here's an entire list that may just gross you out. -There was a pair of used gloves that came from the kitchen lying on the floor near our table. No one picked them up. They were SO obviously in the middle of the floor. I was going to do it, but I mean come on. I didn't come in here to clean. -The floors were covered in food crumbs. -The booths were covered in crumbs. -Smushed French fries tickled my feet underneath the table, I legitimately thought they were bugs. -The wait staff and kitchen staff cussed loudly. I know we're their age, but regardless it's supposed to be a professional environment. Hearing in depth "personal" stories while I'm eating my food is not pleasing. -Wait staff was decent, but during their down time they only talked to the kitchen staff. The gloves remained on the floor. It would have taken two seconds to pick up such an obvious thing. -I could see the kitchen from where I was sitting. Buns were stored directly underneath the cooktop. Cooktop looked to be not cleaned and the condensation from the cooktop showed through the bag. I wonder how many buns grow mold on them? Now, I've worked in the food service industry and this was just revolting. We usually do drive thru here, but damn. The lack of care is shown through how disgusting the place is. I get it maybe there's low pay and it gives no one any motivation to strive to maintain a clean standard. I understand work needs to be "fun" to get through the days of a demanding industry, but these are minor fixes and it pissed me off. Regardless of what it is, it's a job. There's standards set into place to maintain the health and safety of customers and also the staff. Ridiculous. Do yourself a favor. DON'T GO HERE. read more

Had the worst service I've had in a long time. I can't recall the last time I had such an obnoxious server like Brianna. Between loudly speaking rudely to a manager while talking to guests, to her complaining about everything loud enough for the restaurant to hear, to her saying my friend's meal choice was "disgusting" and double checking that that's really what he wanted to order. Honestly so many things were wrong! We were seated at a dirty table, after getting that straightened out, waitress advised she was new. After a 35 minute wait for food, we asked where were our salads? (She had brought out hamburgers-WHICH were RAW!). She advised she had forgotten the salads, she also forgot my chili. She NEVER brought the lemon we requested. Then she told my husband they were out of onion rings and he had ordered the 2 burgers for $3, she only brought one!!! The raw hamburgers sent me over the edge...They are so thin...How can they be raw? Asked to speak to Manager, Matthew who apologizes & said may need training again at which time I advised him that HE sure did need it again. Noticed the waitresses stayed behind the wall most of the time, tables needed bussing, walls were FILTHY in the booths, for goodness sake get some window cleaner and wipe them when you wipe a table! We also noticed other customers having to ask for silverware, tables getting food before others who had been there longer. Just horrible service! We have the steak & shake app and have money loaded on it. We want our money back! We have been coming here for over two years now and gas always been good. Only one familiar waitress today. Sunday night.. hungry after working all day. Got there around 9:30 pm. Service was terrible. I've been there earlier in the day when the place was packed and have gotten good service. There were 2 other couples beside us in the whole place and we couldn't GET service! First, we asked if they wouldn't mind to make a fresh pot of coffee. Yolana said it would be 2 or 3 minutes. That's fine.. Took our order. Very pleasant. (The young lady that sat us was very disgruntled..) Sat there, sat there.... Didn't get our coffee.... Food came... Fries cold...burger pretty good. Reminded Yolana about the coffee. Had not received silverware or napkins. Had to flag someone down to get Yolana's attention. Sat for 3 - 4 minutes before we heard Yolana ask someone to bring them to us. Same disgruntled girl put them on the table without saying a word and walked away. Yolana came by to check on the order and I reminded her about the coffee. Still no coffee...... Later, she came with the bill and I told her to cancel the coffee. Even after reminding her, she had completely forgotten. She said it was made if we wanted to get it in a go cup. I told her we had wanted coffee with our meal. (not afterward in a go cup!) That may be the last time we ever go to a Steak and Shake. I've been to others, in other states and they were very good. This one in Ormond Beach leaves A LOT to be desired... We didn't go to the restrooms this time but the last time we were there, my husband came back from the men's room and said it was worse than any gas station he had ever been in... I work just down the street from this restaurant and I go to Steak and Shake because I like the food. I have to use the drive thru frequently because of time limitations. Just about every time I use the drive thru I have issues. Like for example tonight. I waited for more than ten minutes for just two cups if chili. Also I have gone there and my order is not complete when I get back to my job. I complained to the manager tonight and it really didn't seem to matter to him that I was upset. I have given this restaurant chance after chance but tonight was it. I will never use their drive thru again. I have many options in this area for restaurants. I'm not just limited to this one. Pick up window took 22 minutes to get 2 shakes with 5 cars in line. Took 2.4 minutes to get the shakes after I paid. Bring a book to read.

Underwhelming effort from the order taker, Frisco Melt was flattened and meat barely cooked, also very flattened, light brown in color, not cut in half and missing the sauce. Had to "pull up" and wait, but they weren't busy. Didn't get the beverage, had to go in for condiments and got weird response when I asked for them. We were told by our waitress that the coupon would be honored at the register. Steak n Shake. as far as fast food goes, Steak n Shake is about as good as it gets. Their burgers are real tasty. Their fries are good too. They cost a little more than mcD's or Wendy's or bk. but you get what you pay for in quality. I find i like their burgers even better when i order the buns dry. normally they oil the bun. i think they call it butter. Great place for kids too as there is plenty of stuff to keep them happy at the table. Normally i will not give 4 stars to any fast food restaurant. but they are a step above the rest. read more

I love Steak 'N Shake food and have eaten at many of it's locations in the area but was extremely upset in a recent experience. We went this location early last night--the restaurant was not filled but the service was chaotic. We were seated promptly and told that we would be waited on promptly. After 15 minutes of being ignored while we saw some employees doing nothing, some talking to their friends, others polishing the credit card machine, we walked out. Upon arriving we got seated and I was greeted by our pleasant server Samantha. She was very personal and friendly and had a great attitude. She deserves 5 stars!!!! But unfortunately after my delicious sliders and fries came out *good job cooks* I heard one of the servers loudly asking to go home to the manager. He approved but she had one more table.(at the counter top, in clear view of my table) she goes up to them and says , can you guys cash out, because I want to go home and your my only table open. I cant have them open to leave. As the manager stood behind her and allowed her to talk to them like that which was disgusting!! I have worked in restaurants for over 10 years and have been a corporate trainer. That was very rude and intolerable service. The manager should have had her approach that differently. I didn't finish my food because I was so disgusted. Then to top it off she was loudly saying , i need my tips! So EVERYONE could hear. This was horrible. I hope management corrects this problem for future guest!! I would suggest.. NOT being this girls "last table when she wants to go home" because you wont get the same service or respect as her first. The prices are low and there is always cupons in the paper or mail box to reduce the cost even further. Service is excellent both inside and drive-thru.The ambiance is like an old fashion burger joint (without the car-hops and having to eat in the car) and brings me back to my high school days. We have been to this Steak 'n Shake many times for breakfast, and for the most part it has been good. NOT this Sunday. I ordered blueberry pancakes. The waitress placed the wrong order in front of my husband. Then she placed a plate of eggs in front of me. I said, "I ordered pancakes." She said, "You ordered biscuits, I heard you say biscuits." I said, "This is the wrong order, I hate biscuits, I ordered pancakes." She put all of the food back on her tray and took it to the next table, telling them she got their food to the wrong table. Then, we waited for our order. The pancakes arrived with the whipped cream not sprayed on correctly, it was so far off the center of the plate, that it was beginning to slide off the side of the plate. The whole plate looked like a mess, like the blueberries and whipped cream was just slopped on there. I looked at it and said, UGH. The waitress ignored that, and quickly left. The pancakes tasted ok, but the sight on the plate was a put off. It seemed that our waitress did not know what she was doing. read more

This used to be a good restaurant but has really went downhill. I have been going there for over 5 years 2 to 3 times a week. In the last 6 months the service has gotten so lousy I've really cut back. Just a few things I've experienced. 4 waitresses doing nothing while Cathy a lady in her 60's was running around like crazy taking care of everyone and getting chewed out by another waitresses customers for not being waited on. I sat through my whole meal without my water glass being refilled. I asked for crackers 6 times while Justin waited on me (I never got my crackers). I had to go up and get my own silverware. I had to go get my own napkins. I watched charlotte one of the managers going on break with her food stop at the waitress station to get a drink, while the watresses were doing nothing and many tables to be cleared and customers to be waited on, and she did nothing. Once Amanda attached the wrong coupon to my check which made me be charged 59 cents more, when I complained to Charlotte she took the 59 cents off and never comprehended the waitress made the error (so glad she removed the charge I didn't owe anyway..duh). On my last trip in I waited about 20 minutes and never got waited on but the African American waitress who seated me was able to seat some African Americans who came in long after me and then waited on them while I still hadn't been waited on. So anyway upon leaving I chose to inform the management of my not being waited on and the extent of what service had become there. The manager "unprofessionally" confronted me in the center of the dining room as to my issue, then said I was disrupting his establishment so told me to leave (a professional would have taken the situation aside). Upon my immediate leaving Mark the manager chose to step around me and get between me and the exit door. As I stepped passed him he chose to lean into my face and say "have a nice day". I continued and part way to my car he yelled "have a great day". This incompetent manager was antagonizing, provoking and hassling me. I was always moving forward and he came out the exterior door still making his cheap and unprofessional comments. As I reached my car still leaving the property he said he was going to call the police for me tresspassing. I think one should be entatitled to walk to their car and leave ( I don't do majic and couldn't just poof myself away). At this point I had had enough and paused and said I'll call the police. I had plenty of witnesses to his actions. I seen he did not have the ability to back off nor shut his sarcastic mouth so being the better and stronger man I got in my car and left. I founf out he called the police anyway. I came home and immediately called Steak & Shake. No one got back to me. 3 days later I called again then someone returned my call and basically did nothing to rectify the situation. I asked him to have someone higher up in the company and from corporate not district plus one of their lawyers to contact me as many of the things Mark did was not only unprofessional but illegal. This occured March 29th and as of this writing it's May 6th and I have called Steak & Shake consistently 3 times a week with no body yet to reach out to me. I have given Steak & Shake ample opportunity to turn this around and they are leaving me no choice but to take further action. read more

Visited this establishment last night and NEVER will again. We were given a reciept and while waiting for our food i asked if they got our entire order, but the gal workibg the register said she has no way of knowing once we've already paid?!?!? She then just walked away from me while i was trying to add a milkshake to our order. An elderly lady next to me said "good luck, ive been waiting forever and these people are rude." When another worker finally came to the cash register I was able to order, but asked for a drink tray for the elderly lady and the worker said, "sorry, we ran out" and wakked away??! I then flagged yet another worker and told her what was said and she responded, "we most certainly did not run out of carriers, she is just too lazy to get more." Then, if all this ridiculousness wasnt bad enough, the worker who brought me my milkshake; was very snide and sighed when she handed it over and grabbed 1 napkin when i asked for some and she slammed it on the counter. Oh yeah, did I mention that the elderly lady waited so long that the whipped cream on her shakes were all halfway melted! AWFUL service.
