Every time I drive through Port Orange, I've always stopped by Dustin's for beef brisket, and this current trip was no different. As it was lunchtime I didn't want the entire dinner, so I ordered the brisket sandwich, expecting the same great taste I've come to know. However, this visit was hugely disappointing. They raised the prices again, and the brisket was very greasy and had A LOT of fat on it. And if this wasn't enough, the brisket had no taste whatsoever. One would think that at $16 for a brisket sandwich it would be a tasty item- but no! Therefore, Dustin's has lost a customer and I believe it's time to check out the Sonny's BBQ just down the road. Stopped in for lunch while in town to drop my son off at college. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the vibe inside is decent. I ordered the St. Louis ribs and the corn nuggets. The corn nuggets were amazing, very moist and flavorful. The ribs were undercooked and tough, unfortunately. The garlic bread and coleslaw were great, but the fries I couldn't be bothered to eat as they were soft and bland. Overall, a mixed bag experience, and one I'd probably not recommend. read more

First time At Dustin's , and it wasn't a pleasant experience:/ I came in, they said sit anywhere and a server will come to you. We waited we waited about 10 minutes go by! Restaurant has about 50 seats and only 5 tables were occupied! I went to the counter where there was 3 employees and kindly asked for a server. They said someone will be right with you! Can't go lower. #1 wanted salad bar with meat, selection very small. So I ordered the hamburger steak, well with crispy edges. Husband ordered ribs & pork. His was barely OK, ribs dry and hard. Mine, hamburger was pink and bloody. cut about a 1/3 of it off one end to show waitress. Took it back, some time later brought back same piece of meat missing 1/3 piece. Now it is dryed out, burnt and unacceptable. "Where's the rest of my hamburger?" "Oh, that's all you sent" ARE THEY KIDDING?? Like I don't know what food I had? All in all, they called us LIARS. A little tough to find, parking was great. I was in town to meet up with a friend, and she suggested this place for lunch. We visited on a Sunday. Greeted warmly and seated promptly, we each ordered a barbecue sandwich. She had a pulled pork. I had the beef brisket. The beef brisket was a little dry and not very flavorful. Disappointed at at least. The bill was around $35 including the tip, which included each a nonalcoholic beverage. I think this place is expensive for what you get. My first-ever one-star review. Ordered BBQ chicken, with macaroni salad. Was served mac & cheese and the driest chicken with absolutely no barbecue flavor. When I queried this, the server told me that their chicken isn't BBQ'd - it's smoked, and has no BBQ sauce. (Despite the menu describing it as 'BBQ chicken') Was immediately brought the check for my wife's food (ribs; not great either) and a to-go cup. And she then wandered to another table and started complaining about us to another server. Avoid like the plague. read more

Nothing not to like. Nice parking. Clean tables. Start off with a very nice salad bar with anything from salad, sides, soups and some bread. Many BBQ choices, something for everyone. Good portions with good BBQ flavor and a few sauces from hot to mild to choose from. Finish off with an ice cream cone and I may add the machine is always working. A must for good bbq. read more

OMG! In my experience Dustin's restaurant in Port Orange promotes an environment that is hostile to disabled patrons! Today, 13 December 2024, my wife and I enjoyed a fine meal at Dustin's. At the end of the meal (I was still seated - to pay the bill - and my wife was headed to the car) our server felt compelled to tell me what bad patrons we are. While our server was barking at me, a second server stopped my wife to tell her how rude she was to inconvenience the staff by being in the way with her wheelchair! Embarrassingly, I have to admit this was our second time having a bad experience with Mary, the location manager. We frequent very many local eateries with no trouble. We've driven by this restaurant a lot and thought about trying it but didn't until this past Friday for a late lunch, around 2pm. We were told to find our own seat and immediately were greeted by our waitress, a very sweet woman who took excellent care of us. She made recommendations based on our comments and we were really happy with our meal. My wife had a burger she said was fantastic and cooked just the way she likes it. I had the grilled chicken with sweet sauce and it was really good too. The waitress brought refills early which is a big plus in our book. It tells us she's attentive even when she is too busy to stop by. She also brought it in a to go cup without us asking. As a side note, she kept saying "don't forget your ice cream". What we didn't realize is they have free soft serve vanilla ice cream available to all customers on your way out. read more

Though I can't say I'm a big time fan of Dustin's, I'm going Four Stars on it since, though it may not rate very high as far as barbecues in other areas, it's one of the better in the Daytona area. To me it's far superior in every way than is Sonny's, their basic market competitor. I've been at Dustin's several times. It's a rather typical casual BBQ place with little exceptional a about it but the Q that I've had has a good texture along with deep smoke flavor, basically the way a barbecue should taste. I went for the ribs which you may order as either in babyback "Dustin's" which is advertised as slow cooked, falling off the bone tender or the "St. Louis" style spare ribs. True to their ad, I did find the "Dustin's," which I had to in fact have been slow cooked, rich in smoke flavor and falling off the bone tender. I also went for sides of beans, tasty but rather skimpy in portion, and their deep fried okra. I must say the okra was better than that normally served in BBQ outlets. read more

I reordered and was surprised at the cost of the dinner plate for one. It was $28.00 and I paid and gave them a tip. The food was good but just 3 ribs on the dinner plate at that cost! Geez! This place has great food but terrible service. Seems as if they will hire anyone to be a waitress even if they have no social skills and are completely unfriendly. Every time we go, they use the manual vacuum close to us and even ask us to move our feet while we are eating. This is crazy and unsanitary with the dust the gets kicked up. Not to mention the cook line is creepy and will stare at your wife as you check out. I like the food a lot but always question if it's really worth going due to the service. This was our first visit to Dustin's, and definitely not our last. Ordering takeout online was easy. Baby back ribs were so tender and tasty. Half chicken was meaty and delicious. Our sides were sweet potato, fried okra, Mac and cheese, and cole slaw. All were quite good. Portions were generous. Prices reasonable. Staff was pleasant when we picked up the order. A lot of the low reviews are for non-food items, like COVID protocol adherence, cleanliness, food temperature, poor service, but you'll notice across the board people like the food. Cleanliness and COVID are both very important, but as we did curbside pickup, this particular review is food only. All I can say is that the waitress who brought out our food was wearing a mask, so we were happy. Brisket: A This cut of meat was perfect for people who like a decadent fatty, oily brisket: the intramuscular fat, or marbling, was perfect. They're obviously using the deckle cut (also called "the point") of the brisket. Nobody would ever accuse this meat of being dry or overcooked. In fact, perhaps the opposite: I can see how this would be too fatty / juicy for some people (but not for me!) The brisket is sliced razor thin; I can't even begin to imagine how they cut it so thinly. Meat slicer? But you can't use meat slicers on cooked meat. Mystery. They cut the meat fully against the grain. The end product is, what may very well be, the softest smoked brisket I've ever eaten. The bad points: the brisket wasn't as smoky as it could be, and there's no bark to speak of. This might be too oily for the uninitiated. It would've been an A+ brisket had the smoke been stronger and a decent bark been present, but between the phenomenal cut of meat, the expert carving / slicing, the juiciness and fattiness, I'm giving this brisket a strong A. Ribs: B+ Fatty and soft. However, I could discern no smokiness. I saw no smoke ring. And it was in bad need of a rub: the meat was delicious but somewhat plain. It really could've used a little rub flavoring. And bark. And smoke. But the meat was very good despite these shortcomings. They don't remove the membrane underneath the ribs. I don't mind, but some people might. Corn: B Good. Baked Potato: C+ Slightly undercooked, cold, and soggy skin. A restaurant serving a baked potato should be serving potatoes with crispy skins. This was a mess. Pulled Pork Sauce: B Nice, but a little on the sweet side. Also could've used more vinegar. read more

This is a restaurant I have visited frequently before and during COVID we ordered take out several times. After today's visit - no more take out, no more visits. Our waitress put her mask down below her mouth while waiting on us and serving our beverages. she came to our table frequently, talked and not once had her mask on her face while ALL the other wait staff did. As we left - we noticed NO ONE in the kitchen had a mask on. they were all talking and yelling to one another - not one mask over a mouth or nose. Pretty darn good bbq here at Dustin's. We had them catered to our work place and was very happy that such good food was available to me all I could eat! Can't beat unlimited bbq, I am not ashamed to take seconds! Had the bbq beef, turkey, and chicken that were all very good. Sauce was excellent as well. While I think any form of duplication is flattery, Sonny's is not too distinct from Bono's, Bubba's, The Georgia Pig (now closed) Freddy's, Felipe's....,but I digress. Good barbecue is good barbecue no matter how many rocking chairs are on the porch and no matter how deer antlers are mounted on the walls. The BBQ isn't the best, but there aren't a lot of options close by for BBQ anyhow. The closest thing is Sonny's and I can't say that it is any better. Dustin's sauce is better and that makes up for it. Their service is always pretty good. You can seat yourself and then we usually don't have to wait very long for someone to come get our drink order. This is probably my favorite restaurant chain for BBQ. They're staff is amazing and the sweet tea is perfect. Not too sweet but not watered down. I'm very picky when it comes to sweet tea and this place, NAILS IT every time! My husband and I like to go for lunch and order some pulled pork and the salad bar. The salad bar has all my favorite toppings and then some. Eggs, bacon bits, cheeses (chunks or shredded) peas, chick peas, olives, pickles, beets, etc. They also have your potato salad, coleslaw, and sometimes chicken salad. There's soup available on the salad bar as well but for an extra cost. I think I mentioned this before on another Dustins review but at a different location...We had them cater our wedding and they were fabulous! Very attentive to our guests, arrived early, served fresh food that was nice and hot, and were extremely polite. We were very impressed!
