Took my 2 kids here today for a late lunch for their birthday. We let them decided and this wouldn't have been my first choice. We arrived around 2 pm and we had a party of 6. The restaurant was pretty crowded and there were only a few tables/ booths open. They took our name and told us it would be a few minutes. Everyone that walked in after us that had party sizes of 4-5 people were seated before us. After about the 8th party was sat down I asked a waiter what was going on and they said they were still waiting for the large party to leave. So instead of them pushing 2 other tables together they waited for people to finish eating. Well the people they were waiting on never left. They sat at their table for over 20 minutes after they had finished eating. So we told them we're leaving and weren't waiting any longer. So after that they decided to add a little table to a booth so we could be seated. Our waiter took our orders and brought our drinks right away. We ordered 5 milkshakes and they took over 25 minutes to come out. As soon as the milkshakes came out less than 2 minutes later our food came. But somehow they forgot to cook one of our entrees. So I had to wait for them to cook it and my family was already done eating by the time my food came out. The manager didn't have much to say except he was sorry. Well sorry didn't fix what had happened. We will never be back to this location. read more

I hate that this is the only Steak N Shake in Pensacola. They're so good but it's just not worth it anymore to go to this location. I've been numerous times and I'm just over it. The customer service is terrible. The staff is almost never friendly. EVERY time I've been (at least 8-10 times) my order has been wrong. They are always understaffed. And the biggest deal breaker for me is how SLOW service is. Like, even when it's not busy. It is always clean though, that's the only compliment I can give. read more

To be honest the food was really nice but not presented well at all, in fact it looked thoroughly unappetizing. However both our meals were enjoyable so I hate having to drop a star or two because of the staff who were so loud and acting out way beyond what was OK. This was 9am and there were a bunch of young women behind the counter who were laughing and just making a real racket. One was chewing gum and although our waitress was very nice and attentive we noticed how casual and off hand the others were. My husband and I sat in one of the booths and the plexiglass screens were not just dirty they were downright filthy. You could see where somebody had taken a half hearted attempt at cleaning them and then given up because they had food smears on them and streaks that looked old and dirty. I asked about gluten free options and the waitress said she didn't know and asked me if potatoes were ok. In my experience if the wait staff dont know then the kitchen either doesn't know or does not apply the correct measures. I tried to protect myself by ordering very simply but later in the day I was suffering and I knew I had cross contamination. We were only offered the breakfast menu but after I had ordered I saw others getting the regular menu which was annoying because I had assumed that they had set times for the breakfast menu. I would have loved a shake but didn't get the opportunity because my food was already served. The prices were good and the place itself had a cute old fashioned diner feel to it but it really needs a good manager to get it knocked into shape. read more

Poor service! Went on my lunch hour... it was not super bzy at all. The waitress came in a prompt manner to take my order and then she forgot about me!! I watched as my food sat in the window for 15 min minutes while she was cleaning tables etc... ( was not sure it was my order) When she did bring it to me it was COLD!!!!! I returned the cold fries only to bite into a cold burger and then she brought me luke warm fries!! By this time I had to get back to work and I was not happy at all!!! I had no idea this place had sit down service. Anyways, just an ok experience for me. I wasn't expecting stellar service, but to have menus thrown on to the table without a passing glance and not having our drink orders placed for 15 min after being seated kind of irks me. A lot actually. Had the breakfast burger which is a bacon cheese burger with an egg on it. The fried egg was disappointing. The yolk had busted so it was like a scrambled egg on top. Eww. I can't handle scrambled eggs for some reason, i just like my whites and yolks to be in their own territory. Also, i appreciate a good juicy burger but this was too greasy for me. It got to the point where the bottom bun just like completely disintegrated and ruined the lettuce that was underneath. Maybe put the lettuce on top and toast or grill the bun to help it hold up to the grease factor. The fries are delicious though. Overall not bad. Might go there if i'm up at the mall but only drive thru. If I'm craving fast food burgers ill be heading over to tops, my all time favorite. read more

Service was pretty bad. But the food was good. The wait for drinks was about 15 minutes and another 20 for shakes. About 30 minutes for food. And the waiter looked like he didn't want to serve us. He was walking like he didn't want to be there. And making head shakes as saying "let me go home." Or "I want to quit my job" and looks like that. It was about 5 minutes before we sat down and it was a really long wait. My family got there at about 6:50 and left at 7:59. The waiter checked up on us after we were clearly done with our food. The wait for all of our food was longer than 25 minutes. We were drinking off of one hour of a drink. He didn't ask if we needed refills, if we needed anything and stuff like that. I was really dissapointed about my birthday dinner and it was defiantly a downgrade to it also. read more

I generally have a good experience at Steak 'n Shake. Four days ago it was not. I ordered a burger and malt at counter. While the burger came quickly and was fine the malt never arrived. I was simply told they were busy - three times. I've seen them far busier also If you're so busy ice cream will arrive long after your meal tell customers. Nasty, disgusting.... First of all we walked in and no one greeted us, finally the manager comes over and says we will be with you in a min walks on by only to go shake someone's hand. Finally we get seated to a filthy table with a hair and dried ketchup in it only to sit for another 5min before a waitress comes... food finally comes and nothing on my order was correct and my daughter had a hair in her burger DISGUSTING.. no napkins no ketchup and still a dirty table.. Tonight was my first time eating at stake n shake. While we were waiting for our food, I took a drink from the sprite that I had ordered, and it was completely flat. I had ordered the, turkey club sandwhich and my boyfriend had ordered the double stacked guacamole burger. We get home I pull out my sandwhich and come to find out that I have no turkey meat in my sandwhich. Along with my boyfriend finding oinions in his hamburger, after he asked for no oinions. Makes me feel like from now on we're going to have to check our food before we leave any restaurant when we order it for take out. We came in at 5 on Saturday, they were not busy, but we waited and waited for someone to greet us or give us a table (quite a few empty). The two managers saw us but made no moves. If I could I would give this place NO STARS! Our server and service was terrible. My hubby and I waited over twenty minutes to be seated, it was 9:30 at night and dead, and the servers didn't let us to know to sit anywhere, or help. Instead they were talking and on their phones laughing. Our server came 25 minutes after we finally got seated, and it took him 15 minutes to get our drinks. Gave us wrong drinks, so made him fix it, and he didn't even apologize about it. When brought the new drinks he walked away as we were speaking, and mentioning to him that we were ready to order. Comes back after finally 10 minutes to take our order, stares us down and makes no conversation, and just stands in front of us for about five minutes. I ordered a single bacon burger with no cheese and only tomato with sourdough bread. My hubby got a frisco melt with a regular bun, not the sourdough. It took the cooks over an hour to get our food out and we got served a hot dog and patty melt. We had it sent back and waited another 30 minutes just to get our correct order, and the buns were rock hard, but we ignored it because we were starving. As we started eating, the server was standing over us and watching us eat without speaking again. We asked for the manager, but no one arrived after 15 minutes. After paying, our server stood over us as we were trying to pay, while Cara was finishing the payment. I asked Cara who the manager was and she said John, where the hell was he that he allowed terrible service? Never coming back here again during this time. Do not ask Monty to be your server also.
