The staff is great but the cleanliness is a huge issue here. The dividers between the booths were filled with hand prints. Ordered pick up. All the shakes had no cherries so the kids were thrilled about that. I didn't notice that until they complained after I got home. ALL the tots were basically cold. All the fries were soggy and lukewarm and this was RIGHT AFTER I left the restaurant I decided to eat some fries and tots so it's not like I drove home and they cooled off in the car. ALL the grilled cheese sandwiches were supposed to have tomato lettuce some with bacon pickles etc, arrived home to find they were ALL PLAIN soggy grilled cheese. every time I drive by this location it's empty and now I know why. The hamburger and fries are good but the ordering system and automated beverage dispenser sucks! You can only order your meal by touch screen. For older customers this can be extremely difficult and frustrating!! I finally gave up trying to add a shake to my order. No customer service person to ask any questions or help. I saw several elderly people walk out without ordering. I saw another elderly person get help in ordering from a cook but it took nearly 15 minutes to place the order. It was comical! After you order you have to scan a bar code to get the drink machine to turn on. No free refills. Seems like this place is looking to go completely automated. My mother passed a few days ago at the age of 89. We often visited this store and always loved it as Steak and Shake was my mom's favorite and was what she wanted in her last days. We always would meet after church on Sunday. It was our go to place for excellent food and staff. Mom's last time enjoying Steak and Shake was a couple Sundays ago always a regular hamburger with no pickle or mustard or cheese but everything else and those small thin fries and a chocolate malt which I had to pick-up. When I got to Mom and set it out on her table by the bed. We noticed the store made our order perfect and left a bonus in the bag we had not ordered Onion Rings another one of mom's favorites. My mom had not eaten much in her last days but ate everything along with that perfect chocolate malt to our surprise. She truly enjoyed it. I want to thank everyone at the store and the management for helping make those memories of my mom more memorable and showing love to us during this difficult time I will never forget the love we got visiting your store. Steak N Shake overall has just gone to the dogs! We have tried both locations near me, one in Cape Coral the other in Port Charlotte. Both restaurants were so dirty, no one cleans the tables, the acrylic booth dividers were disgusting! The AC ducts in the ceiling were horrendous, built up with grease and dust. The ceilings itself full of brown water stains. I can only imagine what's in those ceilings, as I am extremely allergic to mold. I watched the manager walk around with napkins in his hand doing nothing. They don't serve you, nor clean your table and yet a tip is requested at the kiosk. The food is Meh... they got it 50% right! This is my first and last visit since Ian. Disappointing to say the least. Walked in and found out I had to order from a kiosk. I did it but I had my 81 year old Dad with me, he never would have been able to use it. There's no way to add anything like cheese to your fries. When we got our food half was cold and soggy. You have to use a kiosk to order, and there are no servers other than the kitchen crew. We tried to order milkshakes along with our meals, but the kiosk wouldn't allow it. A worker who came out of the back told us the truck didn't come. Huh? This is supposed to be Steak AND SHAKE! The burger was large and good. The steak frank was tasty but smaller than represented on the kiosk screen. The bathroom did not have any paper towels or blow dryer, and the soap dispensers were empty. Instead, they had a store-bought bottle of hand soap that was mostly water. Someone must have added a lot of water to what little soap had been in the bottom. I had to dry my hands on napkins in the dining room. Hardly anyone was there in the restaurant. Clearly the business has gone downhill. They used to have a bit of retro charm. The bathrooms were disgusting, being seated took a good 10 minutes, tables around the restaurant were trashed, and being served was painfully slow. I've been hearing and seeing references to Steak n Shake for 50 years but never actually saw one until now. A big problem with "fast" food restaurants is that they have accustomed the public to the "Big Lie" by showing huge hamburgers in their ads and delivering a burger half that size. SnS takes that up a notch by delivering a regular sized hamburger at a large burger price. The French Fries were roughly 1/3 the size of regular fries which we have come to accept as "normal". The Banana shake was soupy (thin) but tasted good. There was nothing that I could taste in the burger that was (to me) any different from hamburger. i had thought that perhaps...there would have been enough STEAK to be able to taste it. Service was good and friendly. Our lunch tasted great, but not so great as to put ourselves in the position of visiting a second time. This was my experience. Yours may vary. read more

The restaurant got a remodel after hurricane ian and it's very nice, in my opinion I would explain it as a modern retro vibe.. it seems very clean and you can get a good look into the kitchen when ordering and the kitchen looks clean. All employees were wearing gloves while I was there. The person to hand me my food was Luis, as I was waiting for my food he seemed to take his job seriously and had an amazing attitude and posture with the customers. Also.. no shakes.. but I will cut them slack for this since they recently remodeled and opened.
