Since one just opened here where I live, I had to go here. Very reasonable and the milkshakes are great! I had a mushroom swiss hamburger with french fries. It was good but I have tasted better. For me there did not seem like there was enough mushrooms or swiss on the burger itself. The wait staff was great, friendly and professional. Decided to give Steak n Shake another try with the understanding they are under new ownership/management, I am afraid things have yet to turn around. The only problem in the college kids sometimes make is a "hangout" and are quite annoying, but if you can stomach them, the food will make up for the annoyance. Try the 7x7 if you go after midnight. I stopped in here at 5:10am this morning hungry for a burger and not breakfast food. To my surprise the drive in was closed so I went inside to eat. Wow...not a customer in sight so I has the place to myself. I ordered a triple cheesburger, fries, and a bowl of chili. Thats where ever thing was a surprise. The burger was cooked perfect and super hot. The chili and fries super hot too. I just didn't realize Steak n Shake could be this good. I love Steak 'n Shake! I would frequent this location on Fridays when I was in college to reward myself after a week of hard work. I have not eaten inside this particular location in quite some time. I was once given a gift card, either as a Christmas or Birthday present. One day, I stopped in because I needed to put more money on the card. I liked having it as I didn't always need to carry cash on me (and I did not have a credit card at the time). I kept my receipt from the transaction, and noticed the card wasn't reloaded properly. To confirm that the card wasn't reloaded properly, I checked the "Steak 'n Shake Gift Card Website." I don't know if this website is still active, but at the time (late 2004 or sometime in 2005), you could log-on with your gift card number/PIN and check your balance, and see all of the activity on your card. Pretty cool, IMO. So, after carefully checking all of the account activity and double-checking my receipt, I knew the money I had paid wasn't credited to my gift card. So, I printed the activity log to take with me to the restaurant, along with my receipt, and obviously, gift card. Armed with my proof, I stopped in to the restaurant and spoke with the manager. He was an older gentleman, with white hair and very tall. He was VERY rude, accused me of lying, and would not help me. Deal-breaker! I love SNS, but will NOT be accused of lying and/or be treated rudely and unfairly. My last time inside this restaurant was to seek help from a different employee. I can't remember if I contacted corporate office or the restaurant itself. In the end, I got every penny I had paid...and was not given grief by this other employee. I have driven through the drive-thru a handful of times since then, but have not been back inside. I doubt this rude manager is still working. I'm inclined to stop in and give them another chance, even if it's nearly 10 years later. Managers need to remember their customer service...and not forget about websites like Yelp! read more

By far the worst service ever. Went to get breakfast at the first Capitol location and the lobby was closed, doors locked, but saw the staff INSIDE HANGING OUT. Went to the drive through and all the lights were off, however the open sign and 24 hour sign were on. A complete joke of a business.. then went to the location off zumbehl and there was a sign on the door that said "The lobby is closed to prepare for breakfast but the drive through open 24 hours." Went through and the man rudely said "welcome to steak and shake we are closed." I asked why they even put a sign on the door saying they were closed in the lobby but drive open? Workers with attitude problems, cannot take orders correctly, not friendly at all, using profanity with customers around , long drive through wait, workers absolutely have no passion for their job nor customer service skills what so ever. Food bag was covered in sauce and grease, my frisco melt was a sloppy, soggy mess. Being one of only two Steak 'n Shake locations in my area, I was forced to go to this one. Never again. When I got to the area to place an order, I was asked to wait just a moment. Nothing wrong with that, but when the employee helping me came back, he mumbled something like "pull forward", but I couldn't hear him clearly. Having not ordered my food yet, I was confused and did not move my car. The next thing I hear coming from one of the Steak 'n Shake employees was "Do you not speak English? I said pull forward". When asked to repeat himself the worker would not and continued to be rude. Horrible place, avoid at all costs. Went with the family for dinner and had nothing but trouble. Ordered shakes which sat in the window for 15-20 min, fries were cold and when they brought new ones they were cold as well, onion rings had hair in them, forgot some of our order when they brought out the food, service was slow as it took 40+ min from order to delivery of food. Asked to speak to the manager who only came out after we asked for a third time (the server told her to come out each time but I guess she was avoiding us). When we explained all the things that went wrong she only had excuses, short staffed, shakes should have been out sooner and servers fault, that any of the employees hair as everyone wears hair nets (not true as I witnessed only ONE person in the grill and food prep area have a hair net) said she would give us our drinks (sodas) for free but we already had a coupon that said the same thing. Got the head managers name and number and when I called him the next day explained everything and he said for us to come back and he would take care of our check on the next visit. I said ok and when we arrived some days later to take him up on his offer he wasn't there but the manager in duty called him and he changed his mind!!! The manager in duty said he would do free shakes which is not what the head manager had said when I talked to him. The place is nasty and the service sucks from bottom to the top. Me and my husband came to this location yesterday. AWFUL SERVICE. First, it took them forever to seat us. A team walked in and all the servers catered to the team, sat them, and began taking their orders. Steak 'n Shake meat is high-quality. They don't give you much, but high quality nonetheless. Their process is so unsanitary, it's dangerous. You pull up to a window that takes money and serves food. This should be illegal anyway. They take your money, give you change, then tear off a receipt, wrap it in napkins, then put the napkins on top of your fries. If the person before you has a virus and his hands are not sanitized, you both use cash, you are now sick. All it takes is a swing through Steak 'n Shake. They shouldn't be allowed to serve food.
