Had to wait in line for an hour, and then we get home and they gave us the wrong shake, the gentleman is the drive through was rude, and when we asked when they be opening the dining room, in a snotty sarcastic way she said I don't know. Will not be going back anytime soon. read more

Horrible experience. I didn't even get to place an order. No sign to let you know that you couldn't order certain items on the kiosk. Kiosk declines my order because I order an item that is no longer sold. I try and explain this to the cashier and then they take my order and tell me I can't pay because machine isn't accepting cards only cash. I turn around and there are now 10 people trying to place orders on the three kiosks. Now I have to go to the end of the line. No, thanks. I'll keep my thirty three dollars and spend at another establishment. Horrible. No apology, no nothing. Do better. There is a thing called grace, but you Steak n Shake have consistently as of late not provided the bare minimum of customer service. I got there at 1040, 20 mins before they open and was third in line. Waited a total of 30 mins. By the time I got to the food window the line had more than wrapped around the building. Got a double cheese and fries. Was not worth 30 mins wait, which is a short wait for this place apparently. Also the app let's you get free food but the location can't scan the app right now. Guy said you could redeem it by scanning the bar code on the receipt but they didn't give me a receipt. read more

We have a family with lots of food allergies so it's never easy taking our order.. however, they checked multiple times and got everything PERFECT the first time! The food was hot and yummy. The milkshakes were amazing. We couldn't be more happy with our first experience at Steak and Shake! Well worth the wait in line. read more

Went to grab some food on my lunch break, sat in the drive through the entire time. Took 30 mins with 4-5 cars in front of me. Didn't even get to enjoy my lunch break, also they forgot my ranch and offered for me to come back and get it but my break was over. Shake was already half melted. Just really poor service overall. read more

The line's no longer an issue, food's still good, and most employees have been really nice. I've been going here frequently for a while now and have very few complaints, there has just been a few instances of an employee coming off as wayyy rude over the drive through speaker. If I had any guess, they've also sounded stoned out of their mind every time they've taken my order. The Steak'n Shake in West Des Moines was a huge disappointment-don't bother. Service was poor and when I was finally at the beginning of the line I was advised that the shake machine was not working. After repeating my order 4 times, I arrived at the window and repeated it several more times ( I thought I was in a Saturday Night Live skit). I drove away and prepared to eat with my dad and the order was incorrect. read more

Waited in line for over 30 minutes. Customer service was terrible. Shake machines are apparently out of order. They didn't give us part of our order, when we called we had to meet them at the door, no apology or anything, just shoved the back out the door. While in the drive through window, the so called "manager" was just texting behind the pop machine. We will never go back. They might as well close the WDM location, it will never be successful. read more

Absolutely horrible fast food restaurant.... We pulled in at 11:45 am placed 2 simple orders and were horrified by the food that was served. 2 burgers, 2 fries 1 shake and a soft drink. The burgers were smashed, it looked like someone had sat on them, the lettuce was wilty and soggy, buns were soggy with grease, and the fries were barely cooked and stone cold. One would believe the fries were prepared the night before and left out on the counter for the next day shift to put into meals. In the end everything was simply tossed into the garbage can except for the shake, that was the only part of the meal that was correct, even the soft drink was flat and not the flavor ordered. I've eaten at a lot of Steak 'N' Shake restaurants (mostly down south) and I was excited to see one finally open in my home town... However I am not very likely to visit this location again soon (if ever) and I don't recommend anyone else does either. I would rather wait until I travel south again. read more
