Eh. Over recent years, I've had very hit and miss experiences at the downtown Austin's. Yesterday was another disappointing miss. We stopped in for a late lunch, arriving around 2. We started with a beer for my husband and a mocktail for me. The mocktail (blueberry lemonade) was simply not worth the $7 price tag. Mostly ice - filled to the literal rim of the glass. So full when I took one of my first sips, ice fell to the floor. There was just a splash of ginger beer; it could've used more but, alas, no room with all that ice! When I mentioned it to the server, she explained that's how they make them. She offered to bring me another, but it seemed clear she meant I'd be paying for it. No thank you. Next, my food. I tried the salmon burger (new to the menu, I'm told) which is actually a salmon croquette on a bun with some lettuce and vinaigrette. It's HUGE and not in a good way. The first few bites were okay, and I thought the heavily breaded effect was due to biting into the edge. As I continued eating, though, most bites felt like a mouthful of bread. I can only hope there was minced salmon in it, but the ratio was so heavy on breadcrumbs that I couldn't detect it. Not the slightest hint of pink on the inside either. I ate about 1/2, my hungry hub finished it. The flaws of the salmon burger didn't seem worth pointing out to the server after the response I got with the drink. Later, as we walked around downtown, I felt like I had a lead sandwich in my stomach. My husband had a better experience than I. His bison burger came out great. No complaints. Unfortunately for me, I think I'll just have to order very specific things when coming here now. Austin's has sentimental value for me - it's the first place we dined after moving here 27 years ago. Because of that, I keep giving them second chances after they fall short. I just wish they'd return to the days of "you can't go wrong", everything is awesome. read more

We arrived around 5:30 on Saturday night and were seated immediately. The staff were friendly and helpful. We got the perfect seat outside. It was beautiful with great music and ambiance. It's a great place to people watch :) We tried the queso, chicken tortilla soup, sparkling blueberry lemonade, and the rotisserie sirloin. The sparkling blueberry lemonade was delicious and refreshing. The rotisserie sirloin was good although sometimes chewy. Some gravy and steamed vegetables would've made this a much better dish. Owners did reach out after my previous review and discussed my concerns. Happy to say we came back here last night for dinner and it was a much better experience! Our server was amazing, very knowledgeable on the menu and made excellent recommendations! We started with the crab stuffed avocado and it was good. The sauce and the crispy outside of the avocado with the crab was a good mixture. The French Onion soup might just be the star of the show! It was soo good and I'd come back just for the soup alone! Delicious! We ordered two steaks entrees and both substituted mashed potatoes instead of the baked potato. Wish I would have stuck with the baked potato because the mashed potatoes lacked in flavor. The New York Strip - This steak was perfection! Perfectly cooked to order, crispy edges and tender. So good! The Delmonico Ribeye - this was suggested by the server as a melt in your mouth tender cut of meat. It was a good portion size, cooked perfectly to my preference but I was a bit disappointed in the lack of flavor. The butter on top and onion straws were a nice add and definitely needed to enhance the steak flavor. It was good, but I would not order it again. I'd choose the NY strip over this one next time. We ended with crème brulee and the top was a nicely thick crust, and a vanilla bean custard, which was good. Overall, a much more pleasant experience. read more

Had 2 consecutive bad experiences at other FOCO establishments but Austin's was great at 5:30!!! Immediately seated and watered. Drinks were ordered and as far as I'm concerned that's the only negative to report. FOCO is a great beer town but the offerings at Austin's are more limited than necessary in my opinion. Perhaps they'll say it's a 'curated' list, nonetheless it's limited. My wife ordered the Buffalo Burger and I ordered the Grilled Buffalo Meatloaf. Also ordered the Caesar Salad which turned out to be the star of the show. Crisp romaine with fried capers and a positively great dressing! Showstopper! My wife's buffalo burger was cooked perfectly and tasted great; accompanying fries were excellent. My meatloaf was dry and I couldn't help but think it could have used a solid wine reduction sauce. Tasted fine but dry. Service was great and the prices were pretty reasonable. read more

Birthday dinner with our son who turned 40. We had a lovely waitress. My husband called the day prior asking if we could bring a cake. They told us yes. The host didn't seem as happy about putting it away for us when I dropped it off and I had to remind the waitress it was there. The meal, however was very good. We had a mix of dishes. We were really excited to come here and try it but unfortunately I have to agree with many other reviews that it was flavorless. Honestly, it was extremely bland. Thank goodness for the au jus to give some sort of flavor, but even that was mediocre. The meat was tender, but you don't get prime rib just for the tenderness. The mashed potatoes felt like they had nothing on them. I certainly wouldn't call them "garlic" by any means and everything lacked salt. I'm not a person who likes overly salty things, just food that has actual flavor. Also, the knives they give you to cut the prime rib with are a joke. My hand was cramping trying to cut the tender meat with a diner style "knife". My recommendation: season the food and get some real steak knives and it will up the experience tenfold! Came in for lunch after church on Sunday with family. My uncle made reservations and I am so glad he did as they got quite busy! We were seated right away. The restaurant has a lot of tables both inside and out. We sat in a large booth in the corner of the restaurant, and it was very comfortable. Our server was prompt, friendly, and attentive. Food and drinks came out timely and everything tasted great! I opted for the French Dip and french fries. The French Dip was good, but the french fries were the real winner - cooked to perfection. I also opted for the Butterfly Effect mocktail and it was very tasty. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals as well. At the end of our meal, our waiter quietly asked me if I was alright with my daughter getting the ice cream sundae that came free with her meal. I was very pleased that he took the time to ask me before saying anything to my daughter in case I said no. The sundae was much larger than I expected, but so great. A good spot in a central area. For a first time visitor, great for an outdoor patio meal to appreciate the weather, town, and overall vibe. Location/parking: Very centrally located and easy to walk to. There was a wait list when we arrived which allowed us to walk around the area. It's very close to a ton of cute local shops and a central square. There's a lot of street parking in the area but on a Saturday night it was all full! We had to park quite a way away but the walk wasn't to bad especially with the nice weather. Service: The staff was really nice and helpful. I asked for some recommendations and our server was able to give a wide variety of options. Food: The food was just ok in my opinion. The best was definitely the cornbread which was a bit sweet. Otherwise everything was ok... I didn't like the beer cheese soup which was extremely beer flavored (to the point of overpowering the cheese flavor for me personally.). The special off menu item was jambalaya which I was so excited for, however it was very heavy in the tomato and white rice was added upon serving (not cooked into it). For me personally, the food was on the cold side. I don't know if that's because we were sitting outside and it was cooler out, but it was a bit disappointing. Price: All things considered our meal cost way less than I anticipated ! We do not live here but have been coming to this restaurant for years. Like others, this recent visit was very disappointing. Our server, Caroline, was wonderful but she wasn't responsible for the 3 stars. The food was mediocre at best. Fries were barely warm, carrots were charred and hard as rocks. We were a bit early for our reservation so we decided to have a cocktail at the bar but were pleasantly surprised when they had an open table and seated us early. The atmosphere is vey comfy and cozy with plenty of tables as well as booths. They offer outdoor seating when the weather is nice. There is a nice bar to sit at that offers just about any drink you'd want and a good wine list. We started off with the artichoke dip ( yum!!) and the fried,crab stuffed avocado. Yes, it's as delicious as it sounds! We then ordered the special ... pepper crusted steak slices and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly and so tender. We also had the b-bque salmon with Brussel sprouts and the combo plate of 1/2 chicken and 1/2 ribs. The salmon is cooked just right at a med temp which leaves it moist and tender. The chicken.... which is their specialty and cooked on a rotisserie spit was very good as well. They were generous and kind and brought out a yummy hot fudge sundae as a b-day gift.
