Long post alert! This is a note for folks of all ages,…read moreshapes, and fitness levels: So. I was the person who talked to countless gyms after my own gym closed without notice (Burst! Fitness). Prior to Burst! I was kind of a gym drifter. EOS, LA Fit, Planet Fit, Crunch Fit. I tried them all on for size. Didn't like them (nothing wrong with them, just didn't quite meet my needs). The search continued. I started deep-diving on the internet. There had to be an existing place out there that fit my needs right?? Over several months and consultations with private gyms in Tempe, Phoenix, and Scottsdale- Underground Fitness showed up on my radar. Leading up to my initial meeting with them, I was pretty deflated. Perfection is subjective- and I'd been looking for my version of a perfect fit for months and hadn't even come close. If I was going to join a gym at this point, I needed some convincing. But not in the typical gym-salesman pitch way. I needed to be bought-in. I needed to see the passion. The knowledge, the dedication, the practicing-what-you-preach. The ability to teach. I don't know maybe I'm a tough sell with unrealistic expectations *shrugs* My meeting went well. Ron was patient. I asked so many questions I made my own self tired. He didn't get tired. All of my reservations were addressed. I was satisfied. By the end of the meeting I could tell, this guy could seriously talk about this stuff all day. Passion: check. The program I selected felt like it would work with my schedule, the price was comfortable, and so far the customer service was on point. Ok...ok...willing to give these guys a chance. What's 9 weeks, am I right? That was in September 2019. It is now February 2020, 5 months later- I'm fully bought in. It did take some time to realize that this was the place for me, so I encourage readers of this review to keep that in mind. From my very beginning the team at Underground Fitness was communicative, invested in my success, flexible, creative, and believed in me more than I did. For those who I've worked with: Ron never blinked an eye when I needed to talk to him about absolutely anything at all (literally anything). Camille comes to my aide with worksheets, resources and meal ideas as I struggle with meeting my macros. She checks in on my off days, finger always on the pulse. She gently pushes me when I'm being a huge baby. She throws fun creative workouts our way, during which I can be observed smiling from ear to ear. They are so fun! The hour is over before I even know it! Daniel challenges every inch of air available in my lungs with creative circuits, helping me learn to use my body as an extension of myself. Teaching me how to stay grounded in my workouts (I can be super ADD). Each of them keeping a critical eye on form and technique. They are patient when I am low energy and have a sad workout. They are excited for me when I make progress. Even though these team members have spent years learning the fitness do's and don'ts for themselves, I never feel anything but encouraged when demonstrating my own lack of knowledge in nutrition and physiology. I can't tell you how many times I got talked off of the cliffs I put myself on. Active listening here folks! Guys, I didn't know what a fitness partnership looked or felt like until I met the U-fit team. You just have to let them be part of your journey, you won't regret it! The End

It showed I lost 5" all around! Say what? Then we went up a notch and in a total of 4 months I lost 15lbs and 18" all around! Yes 18". Now my abs are POPPING! I'm also now wearing a size 2 jean--which I've never been in before. His program is a no nonsense, no fad or silly workout routine. It's a comprehensive program for anyone who is serious about weight loss and getting in shape. It's super simple. Seth is amazing to work with. He is very confident and knowledgeable. He can work through any issues with injury, diet, etc. He guides you through the workouts and encourages you along the way. The accountability alone made a huge difference and kept me consistent even when motivation dipped. And if anyone has an excuse, it's me--I have three kids, one with special needs, a job, and real life happening nonstop--yet this program was still realistic and doable. Beyond the physical changes, my confidence is at an all-time high and I finally feel strong, capable, and proud of my body. Matt is welcoming and knowledgeable in his field. He thoroughly stepped us through their processes. Nutrition is included which is a plus. This is our first time recording our daily food/drink. It's amazing how you become more aware and accountable! It'a only been a month and we already see results. Matt keeps us moving and 45 minutes flies by. He customized our workouts based on our individual needs/desires. We started 2 days per week but will increase to 3 days. We highly recommend Transform to help get you fit and live healthier. A lot has happened since that time, but Aptitude continues to thrive and be an incredible training facility! Brooke and Roger are still super hands-on with training and teaching and it shows with how many "regulars" I see in the early mornings! I did take a brief hiatus during Covid, but I've been back for awhile now. I train twice a week with Nikki W, who is fabulous. Nikki pushes me just hard enough and combines bodyweight work with weights, bands, stretching, cardio and so much more. I find the key to these workouts is continuing to "surprise" my muscles and work them in different ways and Nikki does just that in each and every session. My husband joins me some of the time, so we often commiserate with how sore we are from our workouts for several days following! I have one athletic gift, only. And it is odd. I can run up hills…read more It's a slog, for shiz. It's almost comically sluggish if you watch me do it alone. But when head to head with the average Joe, even Mr. No Shirt, Pristine Tan, Joe Six Pack Abs, I can usually sloth-jog to the top of a hill faster. And trust me, male or female, young or old, if you're on one of the valley hiking trails at the same time I am, we are fucking RACING. Even if you don't know it. Even if you laugh at my paunch and short shorts and their biting incongruence with even the most generously interpreted mores of polite society. Even if you don't care. You're on my radar. I am hunting you. If today were a 1000 years ago, you'd be dead because I'd catch you and kill you and probably eat or try to eat your brains. You're from another tribe and you are meat. Note: I will leave you be when you exercise with Matt. My hiking, no surprise, is in no truly logical way related to The Jarvster. However, I believe in metaphysics and quantum mechanics and with what little additional I understand of string theory, I know, capital K Know, that EVERYTHING is related. So here's the illogical flow that quantum leapt me into the (dis)abusive relationship I now find myself enjoying myself in with ("I wish I knew how to quit you!") Matt Jarvis: When one can run up hills, one thinks they're in shape. At least decent cardiovascular shape. And then they are introduced to Matt Jarvis, by a loved one no less, on a shiny Saturday morning, where they have to sit down perfectly still in the middle of class because they're going to puke. Now, don't mistake my almost puking with any sadism on the part of Mr. Jarvis. Instead, assign it to the frailties zigg-zagging through my life force, which my perfect specimen of a lady friend must endure because I convinced her I was worthy of her love. Which is to say I'm not in the shape I thought I was in. And pushed too hard. My bad. He didn't make me feel like an asshole about it. At all. Out of all the trainers and yogis and typologies of exercise endeavors I've tried throughout the years, including all of them, nothing has made me as sore and perplexed as Matt Jarvis' training program. It's fascinating, really. In one now infamous moment during the middle of an exercise resembling Spiderman crawling up the side of a building, I explained to Matt that I understood, based on my body's reaction that the exercise was, in practice, difficult, but I couldn't for the life of me explain why. This is the thing. I feel like nothing is too crazy, individually. But his workout has this additive effect that I've never experienced with anything else. And I think it's probably the most genius exercise regimen I've ever encountered. Eight-fucking-day soreness. Tell your mom about that shit. It's real. It's chariots of fire. It's Rocky. It's amazing. You can stop reading here if you're trying to decide whether to use Matt as I have said my peace but I have a couple more things to say. My girlfriend, who has been training with Matt longer than I have, does more weight than I do... Which is only emasculating insofar as I happen to know she is attracted to muscular arms, which I do not have. Which is where Matt comes in. Except she exercises with him more than I do so her arms keep getting stronger. And the cycle continues. Someday. Pray for me. Also, I want you to think about personal trainers in the following manner: 1) drill sergeant; 2) loving father figure supportive character; 3) tomboy with the exceptional body who is ambiguously lesbian; 4) dude who's on his phone when he should be spotting you; 5) meat head who, while muscular, is not cut in any way; and 6) truly inspirational character who needs his own television show. Matt is 2 and 6. Sometimes, when I'm trudging up the mountain, I think, Matt's going to be so proud when I can get through x,y,z exercise without having to go rest in front of the fan. Or gulp water. Or cry silently. There is no judgment. He's conversational. His workouts are like ASU. You can go there and party your ass off or you can work with Nobel laureates and change the goddamned world. Totally up to you. The opportunity is there to change your life. Do it for me if not for you.

I had no energy, I topped out at about 335 pounds or so, I pretty much just hated myself and my life. During the time I worked with him I went from this no energy, tired state weighing in at 6'1" 40% + bodyfat to a lean 215 pounds, 11% bodyfat. More importantly, Matt worked with me on a level that proved that he was a good friend and mentor. That he had a vested interest in my results beyond just profit. I can honestly say that he was instrumental in changing my life and I can't possibly express my appreciation in words. The guy gave me his old mountain bike when my car died. Five stars? I had been trying to get back into working out consistently for years. I've tried cheap gyms like…read morePlanetFitness, I've tried expensive gyms like LifeTime, I've tried local gyms, I bought at home work out equipment. Nothing was sustainable. I didn't enjoy any of it. When I saw an ad for a new F45 opening up down the road from me I decided to give it a try. Well about 3 months in, I've been super consistent. The 45 minute time frame and tons of times available to make sure you can work it in your schedule. I get an absolutely epic workout each time. I get more out of that 45 minutes than any other work outs I've tried. The trainers are all knowledgeable, approachable, and friendly. The community of people is wonderful. But for me, it's the convenience. Down the road, 45 minutes, epic workout...cardio, strength, and hybrid classes. They make sure all muscle groups are being worked as well as cardio. I cannot recommend F45 midtown enough.

The workouts are varied enough that you don't get bored and it is great having experts make sure you are getting the most out of each station.
