The place was pretty busy, which gave it a nice, laid-back local vibe. Our server was excellent--polite, attentive, and genuinely helpful throughout our visit. That said, we did run into an issue with the food. We ordered the fried popcorn shrimp, and while they looked well cooked, the flavor was noticeably off. After trying a couple each, both my wife and I picked up a strong metallic/ammonia taste. My wife initially described it as freezer-burned. We let our server know that we didn't want the dish because something didn't taste right. She apologized, which we appreciated. A few minutes later, the owner came to our table--bringing the plate with her--to explain that the shrimp weren't freezer-burned since they're breaded in-house. While we understood her point, the taste was still clearly off to us. It was also a bit surprising that the plate was brought back to the table during that conversation in a crowded restaurant. They did offer to replace the dish or bring something else, but we chose to pass. Overall, great service and atmosphere, but the experience with that dish left us hesitant. Family felt like seafood for dinner so we picked Steamboat. Restaurant has a casual sports bar type atmosphere. Was seated immediately, and greeted by the friendly waitress. The staff in general was super friendly. Food was piping hot and delicious. The appetizer here are so good, Thai wings were tasty and perfectly cooked, crab balls were equivalent to crab cakes, Rockefeller oysters were a big hit too. Entrees were piping hot and fresh, and the portions were more than adequate. My son, who is a voracious eater, barely could finish his popcorn shrimp. Literally only giving one star cause you can't give zero. I was extremely disappointed with our experience at Steamboat Grill. We ordered two burgers and a chicken sandwich, and the food was honestly terrible. The chicken sandwich was so dry we couldn't even get through half of it. The burgers weren't any better and definitely not worth what we paid. We also ordered shrimp, which was probably the biggest disappointment. All of the seasoning was dumped on the outside of the shell, so once we actually peeled the shrimp, there was no flavor left at all. The shrimp itself was plain, rubbery, and tasted like it had no seasoning whatsoever. For the price, we expected way better quality. Leaving a restaurant still hungry because the food wasn't enjoyable is frustrating. Unfortunately, this was a waste of money and not somewhere I'd recommend based on our experience. read more

I stopped for lunch on my way out of town. I was excited to see fried pork chops as the daily special. I was suggested this place by a friend who said they have great lumpia. That part I do agree with. My friend pork chop had a shake and bake type texture that I did not enjoy. The green beans had zero flavor. I had to add salt and pepper. The potatoes served with the special were extra greasy and the it was served with sausage gravy. What a weird combination. No one really seemed to care if I was there or not. Came here over the weekend to get in a family dinner before heading back home. We had 5 adults and 3 kids, so they had stuff for everyone. This is my third time here to the area, and each time we have eaten here once. Every time it was delicious. Katy was our server and handled our group well. Professional, friendly, and helpful with whatever we needed. We started with two apps- the crispy shrimp and the crab balls. Both are good, but the crab balls are really tasty. They came with a remoulade that reminded me of a cajun thousand island (putting it in least common denominator form) but it went well with the app as well as some of the fries. The kids got a bunch of different items, a corn dog, and popcorn shrimp, all with fries- well executed. The big ticket items were all amazing. Parents got the grouper special, two for 45.99 with a side of veggies, jalapeno grit cake, and cajun rice. They enjoyed it so much that the plates were basically clean, which is amazing for them. Also said the gumbo was pretty tasty also. I had the fish and chips. After the appetizers I didn't think I was going to be able to eat much but I ate all the fish- 4 pieces, all crispy and delicious. Comes with fries, cole slaw and 3 hush puppies. All in all, people were very pleased with the dinner here. I have been here enough to recognize that this has survived over the years because of perfect execution on meals and good service. Parking out front when it's busy is tough, but sometimes you get lucky and can get in. With a group of 8, there was one square table that could accommodate us so again, they know what they're doing.
