This bar came recommended for watching Sunday NFL football. We got there around noon on Sunday and was impressed how TVs were already labeled with which games would be broadcasted on which TVs. Bartenders were great and very efficient. We started off with the shrimp appetizer and it was a great portion and very flavorful. Highly recommend. We then split two orders of wings. The sauce had great flavor, but we were a little disappointed in the crispiness of the wings. We asked for them extra crispy and not only were they not crispy, but they were somewhat undercooked. Shades on 30A delivered a fantastic experience for our group. Our server was outstanding--super quick with drinks, incredibly friendly, and really helpful walking our party of eight through the menu. We started with the Nashville Hot Wings and the crab cakes, and both were excellent. The wings had great flavor without being overwhelmingly hot, and the crab cakes were fresh and well‑seasoned. For my entrée, I went with the Salmon Pad Thai, which ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. Tons of flavor, perfectly cooked salmon, and again--not too spicy. Just balanced and delicious. First visit and we'll definitely be back This was our first time at Shades Bar & Grill, and it was a great experience. We went with a group of seven and everything from the atmosphere to the food made it a really fun night out. The location and vibe are fantastic -- lively but relaxed, the kind of place where you can easily settle in with friends and enjoy a good meal. We started with appetizers for the table: calamari, onion rings, and volcano shrimp. All three disappeared quickly. The calamari was really good and normally comes served over jalapeños, but since I don't eat them the kitchen kindly put them on the side for us. The onion rings were fantastic, and the volcano shrimp had a little heat (which the spice lovers at the table really liked). For dinner I had the hibachi steak over fried rice with yum-yum sauce, cooked medium. It was excellent -- tender, flavorful, and a generous portion. Others in our group ordered the same dish and loved it as well. The chicken nachos were huge (normally an appetizer but easily a full meal) with really tasty queso that had a bit of spice. The burger and flatbreads at the table also got great reviews. We also tried the chocolate dessert bomb at the end (not sure of the exact name), and it was fantastic -- chocolate mousse and cake inside a chocolate shell with whipped cream. Definitely worth sharing. The drinks were great, the service was friendly, and the whole place had a welcoming feel. One thing we really appreciated as well: they offer a military discount, which was a nice touch. We're locals and this was our first visit, but it definitely won't be our last. We stopped in here for an early dinner and I'm so happy we did. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. We rode our bikes there and there was plenty of bike parking available. Though I enjoyed the sandwich, I was looking for more of a lobster taste and I feel that was overpowered by the cheese and tomato bisque. My husband enjoyed his Turkey Burger. He stated the pepper jack cheese and the chipotle aioli were a flavorful combination and made the burger creamy & unique. It is a huge burger! The fries were great! The wings are huge and perfectly cooked, the fish bites were amazing; delicate white fish, lightly breaded and perfectly fried. The Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich is generously portioned and nicely prepared; not as hot as the Nashville chicken it gets its namesake, but definitely spicy and seasoned well. I had not been to Shades in years since it was located at Seaside. This location at Philip's Inlet is excellent, spacious, plenty of parking, and offers indoor or patio dining. I went with a long-time friend for lunch and chose the redfish sandwich. I loved it. It had a fresh bun, a freshly fried filet of fish with very light breading, seasoned well and topped with slaw and tomato. The atmosphere was casual yet classy. The background music was not so loud so we could still have a good conversation without struggling. The server was attentive and did great. I will definitely return when in the area. read more

The atmosphere is a pretty solid sports bar, tv's, college banners, a place where you could catch a game for sure. We ordered some buffalo wings and volcano shrimp to start. The wings were average (3) the volcano shrimp got rave reviews at the table (5), the ranch is a little different, but not bad. Fried fish (3.5), goat cheese burger (3.5) Philly steak (3.5) buffalo tenders (4). Flatbread bbq chicken (4). There was nothing that was too bad here, but also nothing that really had us clambering to come back. It's not a place we would go out of our way to go back, but it was fine. read more
