Shades on 30A delivered a fantastic experience for our group. Our server was outstanding--super quick with drinks, incredibly friendly, and really helpful walking our party of eight through the menu. We started with the Nashville Hot Wings and the crab cakes, and both were excellent. The wings had great flavor without being overwhelmingly hot, and the crab cakes were fresh and well‑seasoned. For my entrée, I went with the Salmon Pad Thai, which ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. Tons of flavor, perfectly cooked salmon, and again--not too spicy. Just balanced and delicious. First visit and we'll definitely be back This was our first time at Shades Bar & Grill, and it was a great experience. We went with a group of seven and everything from the atmosphere to the food made it a really fun night out. The location and vibe are fantastic -- lively but relaxed, the kind of place where you can easily settle in with friends and enjoy a good meal. We started with appetizers for the table: calamari, onion rings, and volcano shrimp. All three disappeared quickly. The calamari was really good and normally comes served over jalapeños, but since I don't eat them the kitchen kindly put them on the side for us. The onion rings were fantastic, and the volcano shrimp had a little heat (which the spice lovers at the table really liked). For dinner I had the hibachi steak over fried rice with yum-yum sauce, cooked medium. It was excellent -- tender, flavorful, and a generous portion. Others in our group ordered the same dish and loved it as well. The chicken nachos were huge (normally an appetizer but easily a full meal) with really tasty queso that had a bit of spice. The burger and flatbreads at the table also got great reviews. We also tried the chocolate dessert bomb at the end (not sure of the exact name), and it was fantastic -- chocolate mousse and cake inside a chocolate shell with whipped cream. Definitely worth sharing. The drinks were great, the service was friendly, and the whole place had a welcoming feel. One thing we really appreciated as well: they offer a military discount, which was a nice touch. We're locals and this was our first visit, but it definitely won't be our last. We stopped in here for an early dinner and I'm so happy we did. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. We rode our bikes there and there was plenty of bike parking available. Our server was amazing, super helpful and made some great recommendations. The food was delicious. We loved the calamari, wings and Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Great little lunch place to stop by before getting into VRBO if you need some time to kill. Food is said to be made from scratch. Ordered buffalo chicken pizza and I'd give it 4/5. Fries are just okay, but do taste like they are fried in regular oil. Maybe would have been better if done in tallow. Great service, really friendly service! Would be back! The wings are huge and perfectly cooked, the fish bites were amazing; delicate white fish, lightly breaded and perfectly fried. The Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich is generously portioned and nicely prepared; not as hot as the Nashville chicken it gets its namesake, but definitely spicy and seasoned well. The Lobster grilled cheese is packed with flavor and comes with a tomato bisque for dipping. Though I enjoyed the sandwich, I was looking for more of a lobster taste and I feel that was overpowered by the cheese and tomato bisque. My husband enjoyed his Turkey Burger. He stated the pepper jack cheese and the chipotle aioli were a flavorful combination and made the burger creamy & unique. It is a huge burger! The fries were great! We dipped them in their house made ranch which is 5 stars. We paid less that $40! The inside of the restaurant surprised us. The wings were average (3) the volcano shrimp got rave reviews at the table (5), the ranch is a little different, but not bad. Fried fish (3.5), goat cheese burger (3.5) Philly steak (3.5) buffalo tenders (4). Flatbread bbq chicken (4). Ordered a Calamari appetizer. It was a big order with crispy pieces, with jalapenos and okra. would have liked to have some small whole calamari, and not just the rings. Ordered the shrimp/chicken fry, salad with shrimp, and flatbread pizza. The pizza and salad were very good. The fried foods over breaded and bit greasy. I had not been to Shades in years since it was located at Seaside. This location at Philip's Inlet is excellent, spacious, plenty of parking, and offers indoor or patio dining. I went with a long-time friend for lunch and chose the redfish sandwich. I loved it. It had a fresh bun, a freshly fried filet of fish with very light breading, seasoned well and topped with slaw and tomato. The atmosphere was casual yet classy. The background music was not so loud so we could still have a good conversation without struggling. The server was attentive and did great. I will definitely return when in the area. read more

Shades is an ATF (all-time fav) for me. They say you can find out a lot about a restaurant depending on the quality of their french fries, and Shades passes this test with flying colors! Their fries are my favorite starter, along with their queso. Their flatbreads are unreal, and their cocktails are yummy and strong!
