I'm always looking for new places near me. I received a 2fer coupon and decided to give them a try. I was excited when I saw on their menu that they had an array of grilled meats. The menu indicated that they had Santa Maria Grill Chuck wagon. Grilled prime cuts: Tomahawk, Tri-Tip, Ribeye, Baby Backs Ribs, Chicken, Sausage, Lobster, and Surf N Turf. The only ones actually listed on the menu was 2 Tri-Tip selections. A Cowboy Burger featuring the Tri-Tip and a Tri-Tip Sandwich. I ordered the Cowboy burger. I didn't ask, and the server didn't offer any of the other grill items. My wife ordered The Two Tacos (carnitas and fish) with rice and beans meal. $15. The server returned and indicated that they were out of Tri-Tip. The server again didn't offer any other grill items. I ended up ordering the All American Burger for $15 Let's start with the tacos. The carnitas had a nice crunch to them but were very dry. The fish was nothing special especially since we were expecting a Baja style fish taco. The rice was flavorless, the beans had even less flavor. Both could have benefited from even a little salt. San Diego has some of the best Mexican food in the country, none of it resides here. The burger, ordered medium, was a little overcooked but still juicy. Again a little seasoning in the beef would have helped. Thankfully their burger sauce helped with the taste. The best part of the meal were the fries that came with the burger. Hot, crispy and tender. Neither meal was worth the $15 price tag. At best it's an $8.99 burger, and the Mexican food is to stay away from. Fortunately, I had the coupon that took away some of the sting. It's a cute little roadside diner with very pleasant staff, just not one I'll be returning to any time soon. read more

I was a regular patron of Steele 94, (and previously Valentin's, Cali Grill, and The Greek Sombero, who operated there previously. They lost my business when they proudly re-opened as Steele 94 and proclaimed to be mask-free. The lack of basic health protocols for staff and patrons is a deal breaker for me and my family. Sadly, the mask-free attitude is even more of a concern because Jamul has one of the highest COVID rates in the county. read more

Great little place in Jamul. Really big portions. You can order a burger combo and share and both will be full. This time I tried the bacon cheeseburger burger and fries. I could only eat half. I'm a huge ranch dressing fan. I always use ranch for my fries and their ranch is really good. They veggies for the burger were fresh. The service is great. I like to come here alone and just chill. It's a relaxing vibe in the mornings and early afternoon. And tons of fun at night. They have karaoke night and is a great Jamul hang out. We stay in Jamul often and have wanted to try this place for a while now. Our daughter came to visit so we couldn't wait to bring her too . What a disappointment. I understand staffing issues these days and we are very patient having been in this kind of business in the past. But I don't believe this was the reason for our experience being not up to standard for the kind of restaurant it is. First of all we never knew who our server was. Someone took our drink order, then another took our food order. We were looking so forward to trying their waffles after seeing all the advertisements of them. Everything came looking incredible. The plating was pleasing to the eye . But then it went down hill from there. The waffles were just ok, not fluffy or light as we thought they were going to be. The butter and syrup were in little take away containers. The butter was very cold not melting on the waffles. Too many little throw away packaging just adding to our landfills and trash problem . The home fries were good a little dry. The biscuits and gravy looked amazing but lacked flavor,the biscuits were a little heavy .My husband got the Fried pork chop with country gravy, he liked it ,he just felt it lacked a little flavor as well. The best thing we got was the omelette , that was very good. Our food came one plate at a time , delivered by an older gentleman I believe was trying to help. We had to ask for refills of beverages and condiments. They are pricey for breakfast ,which I would not have minded if the food was good. They do give nice huge portions though . Located around 15 minutes from Pio Pico Rv Resort, I love to frequent this restaurant when I am in the San Diego area. Even though they specialize in Mexican food, you can come in on most days of the week and get ribs or a large wood fired ribeye, cooked to order, that is so tender it melts in your mouth. They also have a breakfast menu that features their biscuits and gravy. Large homemade buttermilk biscuits that is covered in their rich meaty gravy. Even if it's your first visit, the owner Miguel and all the staff will treat you like a regular. They greet all of their customers, and remember them by name after the first visit. On some nights they have live bands playing music ranging from rock and roll, hip hop, and soul. read more

Today was my first time stopping-in, after driving by it for the last six months. What a delight, the atmosphere and staff are so welcoming and there is a familiar feel to the place. The service is great, we were greeted by the owners, Miguel and Sandra. They are very friendly and local residents of Jamul for over 20 years. Oh, and the food? This was the best breakfast I've had outside of my grandma's house, and it was close. The biscuits and gravy were amazing and the huevos rancheros were great also. Discovered this cool place coming home from Jamul & Sycuan Casino. Great atmosphere, great food, family oriented. Felt like we were enjoying our meal and drinks in our backyard patio setting on a Saturday morning. So mellow and relaxing. Brianna was very kind and professional. This is a great little local bar. Reminds me of that one bar in a small town in rural Texas or Tennessee - type place. The bartenders/servers go out their way to get to know you. Not just treat you as customers but like friends. In the few times I've been here in the last few months, Justin and I talk fantasy football every time. Good food, good drinks. I hadn't been there in a while as when I went there some time ago when it was Valentins, it was unremarkable to say the least. So I didn't go back. My daughter wanted to go though and she said her recent experience was good, so I thought why not, as it had been a while. We walked right in and sat off the bar where there are quite a few tables. Had sports on TV's at multiple angles and things were loud, although not uncomfortably so. They also have dining in a tent like structure that has been there for many years we could have sat in too, which is quieter. The server came quickly, was polite gave us time to look at the menu and take our order. Food came fairly quickly too although it was relatively busy at the time. Both of us ordered the San Felipe Burrito which was very tasty and was a good size. We also had "Bottomless Chips & Salsa" which cost $4 and to their credit kept it full, although as we all know, "don't fill up on the chips!" So disappointed in our last experience at Steele 94. We used to love coming here and supporting a local business, even made our way back when we visited. Our biscuits were small and dry, the eggs were over cooked. The two pieces of bacon on the side were tiny, and i had a piece of shell in my eggs! The quality of the food has gone completely down hill and is extremely inconsistent. You never know what you're going to get when you come here. I can say the bartender and wait staff are so awesome! I came here yesterday May 12 for mothers day with my mother and boyfriend. Immediately we were greeted with an unpleasant welcoming as if we didnt belong. We were told where to sit but noticed that the other guests were told to sit anywhere they would like (which was kinda odd). My mother felt discriminated because of the race/ethnicity we were. As we placed our order we felt that our food was rushed. We got the biscuits and gravy combo but my potatoes were undercooked and barely any gravy on our plate. We noticed another family that were mexican were told to sit at a specific table and when they asked if they can sit elsewhere they weren't allowed to but as soon as a white family came in they were told to sit anywhere they would like. It's always good, and always dependable, with smiling friendly service, and a relaxing atmosphere that exudes "come as you are". I had the cheese enchiladas, and my partner had the All American Burger. Both were tasty and we would order again. My enchiladas were more than I could finish, especially with all the rice and beans. Plenty of food. The All American Burger came with tater tots, which were tasty, as I had to try one. I stopped in this new place located on the outskirts of Spring Valley or right before you enter Jamul for Taco Tuesday. Street tacos were for $1.50 each with shrimp running a little extra. I ordered two al pastor tacos, which should be correctly labeled "adobada" given they not cooking nor slicing the meat from a vertical spit. I could tell that this meat was already cooked and simply reheated on the hot skillet. I also ordered two chicken taco with all the fixings. The tacos were good, but the pork meat in the adobada taco was over done. Some of the pieces were tender but others were actually brunt to a crisp which made them hard, dry, and gave of, well a burnt flavor. The rest of the ingredients of the taco were good. The guacamole was creamy with some chunkiness and well seasoned. The chicken fared better on that hot skillet. It had a nice sear, was tender, and tasted very good. They came with just the right amount of chopped cilantro and that creamy guacamole. One thing I do recommend is that the double up on the corn tortillas on each taco like many street taco vendors. The tortilla tore easy as I picked them up under the weight and moisture of the ingredients. Service was okay at the bar. It was not attentive enough, as I had to ask for utensils and salsa for the tacos. Those items should of already been at my placement as or before the tacos came out. Ist time customer. I live in SV,friend lives in Jamul. Met at 12:30pm. I was the first to arrive, couple at the bar, I table in dining room. Barperson said hi, I went to find a seat. Waited about 5 mins, got menu, want anything to drink? Strange, no bar menu, had to ask what was on tap, bottles, prices, and for a martini or something similar, what was the price range, $10-12. Asked for water first. Looked at menu, few items I wanted to try but saw the Monday special, burger n brew, with domestic beer. Thought I'd try that, as a burger was $14, alone. Special was $15. Typucally, I dont order burgers but thought this place mught have a hood one. My friend arrived and looked at menu as well. I think it took about 15-20mins to get order taken. During this time, 7 other customers showed up, and the table who was there already finally got their food. My friend had the cilantro salad, water. I was going to try the burger n brew until she gave me the choice of beer, Bud or Coors lite. Huh? Who wants a lite beer, not me. I changed my order to a superquesadilla. I asked for a water fill up 3x, we waited for our food, 30 or 40 so minutes, plus did not come at the same time. The quesadilla came first, then the salad 10 mins later. The salad is the easier to make, how they messed that up is beyond me. Had to go to bar area to ask for check, server never asked how things were, did not get fill up on water, until the check. Granted the food was decent, friend enjoyed her salad, my quesadilla was fairly good, super large. I used to get them at La Salsa until they closed. I took 1 part home. Bottom line, service was slow and poor, ambiance, meh, food decent, no bar menu is weird IMO. Will not return. read more

Was there today, it was empty when we walked in. My husband took me there for lobster, but it was still frozen, so we couldn't have it. I decided to order the tri-tip sandwich, it came with fries. The meat was tough and it had an after taste, the meat tasted old. I informed the waitress. She came back like 5 minutes later and she said the cook said it was fresh meat. He should've tasted it, I was not offered anything else in exchange and they still charged the full amount for old meat. $18.00. My husband tasted it and he also agreed the meat was old and tough. While the food was pretty good, my son and I ordered the taco salad, their salsa and ranch dressing is HORRIBLE! Also, we got the salads pretty quickly, but my husband ordered one of the specials: the ribs and chicken dinner, and his didn't come when ours did. The server didn't come back, like they normally do, within 10 or so minutes to see how our food was and to see if we needed anything. We had to flag her down to ask where my husband's food was. She had no idea and went back to the kitchen, coming back with the excuse of a new entry system that didn't print out his order for the cook.
