WOWZA! I was visiting a dear old friend in the area, who frequents this gem of a coffee shop. First off, the breakfast croissant was absolutely, hands down one of my all-time favorites. They smash them on a toaster that gives them a bit of a crispy, crunch. SO YUMMY! I can see why they sellout of them frequently:) Our vanilla lattes were made to perfection, although a bit hotter than expected. The atmosphere is quaint, with a small town charm, in what seems like an historical building in the heart of Old Town Pittsburg. The three young gals behind the counter provided fast service, but could definitely step up on customer service interaction instead of yacking amongst themselves, especially if they expect to be tipped. read more

Unfortunately, we had a really disappointing experience here. The coffee itself was great, but the customer service was terrible. The lid on my coffee wasn't secured properly, and the drink spilled before I had even taken a sip. We let the staff know and moved to another table. A gentleman, who I assume may have been the owner or manager, then told us we couldn't sit at that table because the tables were arranged a certain way for the "best flow." We moved as requested, but the way he spoke to us was unnecessarily rude and made the entire interaction feel awkward and uncomfortable. I then asked the barista if she could replace the coffee that had spilled, and I was surprised when she told me I would have to purchase another one. Considering I hadn't even taken a sip and the spill happened because the lid wasn't secure, I expected a little more understanding. Unfortunately, her response and demeanor were also quite rude. It was such an odd experience, especially over something that could have been resolved so easily with a little kindness and basic customer service. Good coffee, terrible service. As a longtime barista and specialty coffee enthusiast, I was excited to find a café so close to my workplace. The space is thoughtfully designed--open, comfortable, and visually appealing, with a unique wall-style menu and a well-executed bar setup. I appreciate the creativity in the menu, especially the blended lattes, which are not commonly found in specialty coffee. That said, the drinks themselves have been inconsistent. At times, the balance between espresso and milk is off, and sweetness levels can feel a bit overwhelming. Service has been mixed but at time defensive and in some cases while not intentionally unfriendly, interactions can feel somewhat unwelcoming, and there have been moments where a more engaging, knowledgeable approach would have made a difference. How do you not know the oz of you cups? I really wanted this to become my regular spot given the convenience and potential, but the overall experience hasn't quite matched expectations. With some refinement in both service and drink consistency, this place could truly stand out. Salted maple latte would hit but it was was too sweet and over all i could tell the shot was underextracted. Yet still gave 30 percent tip because grace is given even when we dont deserve it but this review i hope is considered. Hoping these things will shift that I could come back. read more

Cute location. Came in on a weekend to grab some coffee for a day of errands. There was a line when we got inside, but it moved at a good rate. I LOVE how they have their menu displayed. They have an assortment of beverages along with seasonal items. They have a small selection of pastries. Staff was very friendly and the drinks came out in an appropriate amount of time. My wife really likes chai tea lattes (CTL) but she's had some bad luck at Starbucks with consistency. Today I dropped by Steel Town (ST) coffee and asked if they had a specific recipe for CTLs and the barista was kind enough to explain the actual way they were made. Stopped I , it has become a tradition that before a day of running errands, we go to a small business coffee shop to try their stuff. Steeltown was today's winner. After reading reviews of the honey badger latte I had to try it. I read that it can be too sweet. So I opted to get an iced honey badger latte with only two pumps of syrup. It was so good, I do wish the espresso flavor popped a little more, but it got me through the errands. I do think the prices are fair for a coffee shop that is roasting their own beans right in the lobby. There were tons of people enjoying company. That's always a good sign. The staff were very nice and informative. If in the area again, I would def come back. read more

So this time I walk in and needed to use the bathroom and I ask for the key and the woman with the long hair behind the counter says "are you going to be a customer here?" and I said "yes. but what if I wasn't?" she said, "the bathrooms are only for customers." Like do I look homeless to you? and....nice way to treat a new customer! (because I haven't been here for four years, due the last time I have been there, I swore I wouldn't come in again). I had some time between commitments so I decided to go to a local cafe. This was my second time at Steeltown and had a great experience. The barista was super friendly. I ordered a decaf vanilla latte with Oatmilk, and it was just the right temperature, low foam (my preference), and good flavor. The vibe was chill. I have patronized this business several times and I love the aesthetic and that it's a local coffee shop. I love the small town feel however this time when I came, the service was just OK. I ordered a lavender latte with almond milk, but was given a vanilla latte. I asked the server can you please confirm my order he said it's a vanilla latte. I said I ordered a lavender latte. He apologized and quickly remade the drink unfortunately I think he made it with whole milk. Which was not a good situation for me. Pretty cute coffee shop located in Downtown Pittsburg! We came around 12pm on a Sunday but street parking was pretty easy to come by but if not, they also have street parking allotted for curbside pickup. It shares a space within Mechanics Bank but they have a pretty big seating area that can be used for studying or hanging out! I saw some outlets and free wifi is available so it's a great place to get some work done! As for service, they're very quick with ordering and with getting drinks out as well. I ordered the Honey Badger Latte with Oat Milk and it was pretty sweet! I do wish that the coffee taste was stronger but I liked how the honey taste was prominent. I ordered my occasional drink and mentioned how I liked to have my drink made. The barista poked at me and said "there's no such thing" and laughed. Came with my husband for a quick pick me up. We have enjoyed the coffee here in the past, but this time around we had a very unpleasant experience. We ordered a regular latte and a honey badger latte. Regular latte was fine, but the honey badger latte was very milky and could hardly taste the coffee. Mind you this latte is $6.25. I let the person on register know and instead of offering to remake the drink, I paid an additional $4 for one espresso shot. I didn't mind paying but this latte really ended up costing $10.25. I waited over 25 min for that one espresso shot, my coffee was already cold by the time I got the extra shot and still not very good. The baristas are not friendly at all. Drink was mid and the food was served in a bag, they don't give you a plate and they don't put the cream cheese on the bagel for you, they barely give you any cream cheese. The staff was distracted and chatty with each other and not very warm. They were friendly enough though it's normal in our day to be like this. Don't recommend this place. So firstly I'd like to say that I really looked forward to my regular interactions with two employees in particular, they were always really conversational and laidback. The man with the short dark hair and the man with the glasses and longer, curly dark hair were always very courteous. However, the majority of the baristas there don't seem very experienced (or perhaps properly trained). I say this as a seasoned barista. Unfortunately their lattes are incredibly milky. It seems that they do not add more espresso shots into large drinks, which adds an even larger milk to coffee ratio. The ice is either melted when I get my drink, or there is not enough ice to begin with, so it contributes to how weak the espresso tastes and my drinks are always warm. I had their iced chai, which was pretty bland, and still milky. I even ordered it dirty and it was still incredibly bland, hardly tasted like coffee was in the drink. Another time I came with my good friend, and he ordered an iced matcha. Now, I know that traditional matcha takes more time to prepare than, say, the powder mix at Starbucks. However, we uncomfortably watched the poor guy with glasses and curly hair struggle for ten minutes to make it. I don't blame him, I just don't think he was adequately trained to make that drink. It just got to a point where my friend felt legitimately guilty for ordering something so time consuming for the barista. My final and largest complaint, was when I went to order three shots of espresso. I knew from past experience that it would be too milky, and I wouldn't be able to taste the coffee, so I just opted to order it by itself and add the milk at home. This was my first experience ever talking to the owner, and he made me feel really small and almost like some type of alien for ordering three shots of espresso by itself. He kept arguing with me, like it was an inane request. I offered to pay latte price, I said he could put it over ice or I could just take the espresso in a plastic to go cup as if it were an iced latte. He insisted he couldn't do this and didn't really give me any reasoning as to why. Now, even though it is ridiculous that he cannot do that for some reason that he never explained, I would've been accepting if it stopped with him assertively rejecting my request and offering to do something else. Sure, I did leave with coffee that day, he didn't bar me from ordering, but the way he spoke to me throughout the transaction was incredibly condescending. I felt like he was trying to make me feel crazy for something I've easily ordered at countless different coffee shops, mom and pop or chain. I never mentioned the reason for my order, and I didn't really push past him except to try to re-explain what I was asking for, as it seemed he didn't understand me. I'm also autistic so for a bit after was questioning if maybe I was confusing him or not communicating clearly. Seeing that many others have had similar and much worse interactions with the owner, I know now that it wasn't me. read more

The coffee is AMAZING! All the drinks are so good whether blended, hot, or iced. The paninis are a bit overpriced and small, but they do come with a bag of chips, so I guess it is worth it. Make sure to follow-up on the food, because the staff tends to forgot about it. My friends and I recently had a bad experience with a tall male employee. The man was working around noon, Saturday, 11/23/24. He had neck length hair, with glasses and acne. We noticed other tables had left their plates and cups, so we left ours too. While walking out, he stops our group and goes, "Are you going to bus your tables or not?" It would have been much better if he asked kinder, as we genuinely did not know. I'm really glad I had a job out in this part of the woods. I was on need for a coffee shop with Wi-Fi to do some preliminary work remotely. I was not looking for a typical box store coffee place, but more of a local Indy coffee house and the name of this place stood out. Long story short, ended up checking this place out today and was really impressed by the quality of the coffee, the ambience, and the friendlies of the staff here. They offer a wide variety of different coffee and non-coffee beverages, however I was in the mood for a chilled drink. I was going to get just an iced latte since I love latte drinks, but then I saw blended latte and decided to give that a try. Good choice! The blended latte tasted very good. It had a hint of vanilla, maybe some caramel or nutty after notes. It was slightly sweet, but not overly sweet like a caramel macchiato from the big box stores. They do have a small seating area off to the side and some leather chairs that looks real comfy. Also they have outdoor seating and would be nice to work out there too, just not during hot hot days. Wi-Fi works good here and this place is safe. It's actually inside of a local bank. Staff is very friendly here and helpful. They also had my drink out within a minute or two.
