TVs and arcade games accompany the dining area
Emma N.

This place was really cool! Inside this building, there is a coffee shop (Harder Day coffee co) and bakery (Musette) that accompanies the brewery, and there were food trucks/carts out back! They also had a few arcade games and TV's! The place was pretty slow when we arrived around 1230 on a Friday! While my friends all got beer and enjoyed it, I decided to try a chai latte. It was delicious, warm and cozy on the cool Portland day! Everyone working was nice and helpful. I would come back here and recommend this place to others!

So glad to see something happen to this corner of Hawthorne! What was for years a bank of america with extra shady folk outside is now a really nice bright new bar hub with accompanying carts outside. I've always liked the people watching on Hawthrone and this adds that with cooshy window seating. There's a lot of spots to sit for meeting up with a large group too. I even caught some pinball tables near the window as well. Tap list has a nice variety. I got the Dark Mexican lager which came in a good sized Steeplejack pint glass. Theres plenty of space to get by, and also an outdoor area with at least 5 varieties of food carts to choose from. For early risers, they have coffee and pastry options in the back. Welcome to the neighborhood Steeplejack, we needed you!

Interesting. It feels a bit like... a cafeteria? To be fair, a cafeteria with beer... The food consists of food carts outside. (This seems to be the thing now...) Mexican, Indian (Punjabi), and (woah expensive) Smash Burger carts are open. Asian and Mediterranean are on their way. We tried the Mexican and Indian and they were good. Top marks for Mexican cart, B+ for Indian. Oh but don't trust the prices I guess. The naan was $1 more than listed. When I asked they said the listing was wrong. And frankly, not much naan for $4.50. But inside... it's almost a pub but really kind of a cafeteria/warming building for the food carts? They have coffee too during the day and maybe pastries? Can someone explain to me why a brewpub will have like 5 IPAs and no Porters? In the Winter no less? In Portland? Sigh. #nohopsplease And look- it's not INaccessible. But it's hard to call it truly accessible either. The entry is flat. The bathrooms are large and ADA equipped. But there are so many tables and chairs jammed in there that navigating a wheelchair through requires someone to run interference. (That's me. I'm the Interferer.) Also take note- the door from the pub to the food carts has a step, so to get there a chair would need to go out the front door and around the outside. (You know. Like a trailer park girl.) Big points for the Star Trek: The Next Generation pinball machine. I'll come back for that. Also how cool is it that they turned a bank into this?

The kid space was a great size and my two small ones loved being able to play while we ate. I loved that they had some great open ended toys and I didn't need to worry about them disturbing our neighbors. Our server, Emma, was great! She was attentive and quick. She even made our kids chocolate milk even though it's not on the menu. Our food was amazing. We had the kids butter noodles (I'd order that for my adult meal if I could!), kids cheeseburger, deviled eggs, caprese with prosciutto, and fish and chips. The fish was so good and big! Definitely enjoyed our experience here!

At 4:35 the appetizer showed up as I finished my second beer, moments before my parking ran out. Nobody communicated with me about the delay. I was ignored by staff the entire time. Most restaurants target 10-15 minutes for apps - this was 40 minutes, and the restaurant was not packed. Other patrons who ordered after me successfully received their food. They said the app was comped, but after I said I had to leave, the app never even made it to my seat. I left Deschutes hungry and disappointed.

It's truly disappointing when restaurants and other businesses choose to take a political stance…read morethat makes some customers feel unwelcome simply because of their beliefs or support for the Constitution. My wife and I drove over 30 minutes to visit this location because we were looking forward to enjoying good BBQ, tacos and a beer. Unfortunately, the political signage displayed throughout the windows and establishment made us feel unwelcome, so we decided not to stay. Great Notion and Matt's BBQ Tacos, you've pushed away customers who came ready to support your business and spend money with you. I wish you the best, but it seems you've chosen to operate not only as a restaurant and brewery, but also as a platform for political messaging. That's your right, of course, but it's a direction that may alienate customers who simply want to enjoy good food and drinks without politics being part of the experience.

The Blueberry Muffin is an all-time favorite, and even though I get annoyed when they're sold out, it's never enough to keep me away. Most times I get a flight and try a bunch of different things. This location is charming. It has the industrial decor that now feels cliché but was groundbreaking for beer and burger spots a decade ago. With a very large patio and big garage doors, it's great during summer especially. Staff is knowledgeable about their beer, patient while we deliberated, and did us a favor to help the beer travel on the plane. The kitchen is now operated by Matt's BBQ Tacos (which I will review separately).

I love the space as well, though if you're looking for somewhere for a quiet conversation and welcoming pastels this is NOT your spot. I wish we could bring the kids to hang out with us on the patio at least, but Portland permitting is weird AF. Love the merch, love the tap lists, love the events, love the cooler; what more can I say? To top it all off they have El Viejon serving some of the best mexican food anywhere in Portland right in the joint! I've yet to try a single dish that's not delicious and many are absolute favorites. Get a cali burrito and call it a day; you'll be set! Sam et al; you guys are amazing and we really appreciate you! I genuinely only wish I had more time to come spend enjoying Brujos.

Brujos is a hidden gem in NW/slabtown that everyone should try at least once…read more They just completed an interior renovation of the bar, and damn, is it ever a cool design and space. I am a big fan of the indoor/outdoor flow for the space, especially on nice weather afternoons like we have had recently. Outdoor seating is limited, so be prepared to sit inside. Interior seating is not the most comfortable, with former church bleachers that are quite bouncy or large and hard game of thrones-like high chairs. The team is super friendly and will send you to the food station or the bar depending on your needs, and, with the good quality Mexican cuisine on service, you'll want a taco or two. The brewery specializes in Hazy/IPAs, to come expecting to enjoy these PNW basics. I swapped between them and non-alcoholic options since hazies are not my favorite but everyone I was with loved them. The restrooms are clean and there are plenty of bike stands to make this a car-free journey.
