In town on a business trip. Found this restaurant on Yelp. Was intrigued by the German name and all of the 5 star reviews. This restaurant is the real deal if you like German food. The menu is somewhat limited, but I think that enables the staff to perfect the dishes. Our party went with the Jagerschnitzel and Sauerbraten. The service was excellent despite it being busy. The ambiance is nice. The prices are very reasonable. Great location downtown. Highly recommend this restaurant. Call ahead to reserve a table. Will be back next trip. Unfortunately my camera doesn't take the best pictures. Regarding the restrooms, they are INSIDE the building and just down the hallway. Previous reviews took issues with the restroom location. Das Steinhaus is inside a large historic corner downtown multi use building

Jager snitzel Was too salty. Go without sauce. Then I will be happy.

The pretzel with maple syrup mixed with mustard was very good! We loved it. Then came a good portion of salad with cheese and pumpkin seeds. The salad was very very good. Then came a snitzel. It was too salty for me. I would do without mushroom sauce next time. Pork was too salty for me. No sause next time. Overall this is a very good place

I had made a reservation at Steinhaus for seven people over the phone prior to visiting Marquette last fall with friends. They required a $50 deposit due to the "large" group reservation - which we were charged (twice) and then never credited or reimbursed for - but we contacted them and they took care of it right away. I'm not sure how it usually works but I think it's a nonrefundable deposit normally - so be sure to check on that when making a reservation. Our server was so sweet and very kind, super busy and told us about some terrible patrons she had had recently. It boggles my mind when people are rude to people in the restaurant/bar industry. Please be kind! Steinhaus specializes in German food and the menu was a bit of a prixe fix with an entree, salad, and bread option included when we visited. Nate and I ordered the jagerschnitzel, which was crispy and cooked nicely but sooooo salty, almost to the point of being inedible. For me this was incredible as I love salt. As Molly Baz says, "it makes food taste more like itself." However this was just a bit too much. The spaetzle was crisp on the outside, buttery, and soft inside. The included salad was a very generous portion with great ingredients. The bread option is either regular bread or a soft pretzel - we got both at our table! We were feeling indulgent, so we got one of each of the featured desserts to share - cheesecake and chocolate cake. Overall it was a good meal and I'd go back and try something else - the wurst plate looked great!

This place deserves more than five stars! It was so delicious! We started with refreshing drinks and finished with a three course dinner. The pretzel with beer cheese was divine. The salad was fresh and tasty. The main dish was soooo good!! I only wished it was closer to my house!! It is also located in an old building (bank?) that had character of itself. The restaurant decor and murals were also fabulous! Just go!!!

Small eclectic place. Excellent German fare including a Jagerschnitziel that was amazing. Service is very good and a great bar menu. I've been twice and it's my favorite when visiting the city.

Oh my lord My Austrian grandfather defected Europe in '42 and this is some of the best damn german food i've had to date. Meal compelled me to watch the video of Reagan ordering to "Tear down that wall" Sehr sehr gut.

First, and most importantly, the food. I just ate the best jägerschnitzel I've ever had. And I've had a lot of outstanding jägerschnitzel. Seriously, it'll change your life for the better. The schnitzel itself was very good. But the gravy. OMG, what do they do to it? My only critique, and the only reason 4 stars instead of 5, is the music. Now before you think me a Karen, hear me out. The ambiance of a dining experience is an important part of it. It matters. And right now, as I type this, I'm hearing Lies by Fleetwood Mac in the dining room, and Joleen by Dolly Parton out of the kitchen, both at clearly audible volume levels. It's annoying as hell, and frankly distracted me from the full enjoyment of my amazing meal. I asked them politely to turn one or the other down, but they did not. Come for the food and beer, and maybe wear your AirPods.

The only thing disappointing about this place is the address! It's listed on W. Washington St, but it's actually located around the corner and up the block on Front St. Seems the city controls the address and every business in this building has to use the same address. Once you find Steinhaus you won't be disappointed. This is a cozy little place with maybe 8 tables and a small bar with about 5 seats. The decor is trendy and the staff is very friendly. I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel which included Red Caabbage and Spatzel. The star of the meal was the Capper and Brown ButterSauce that was served in a small dish on the side (like au jus). This Capper/Butter concoction was really tasty and it gave great flavor to the schnitzel. Loved it!

We've eaten at a lot of German restaurants around the country and this is, by far, the best one. Everything was phenomenal! We will definitely be back the next time we travel through Marquette.

Make a reservation! Don't believe what Yelp says regarding reservations. We went on a Saturday evening at 6:00 and the joint was packed! Fortunately, we got seated at the bar. Alex the bartender made feel very welcome and his craft cocktails are on point. The menu is limited, but everything we had was delicious. The Jäegerschnietzel with späetzel and red cabbage was an unexpected treat. We'll definitely be back. The Sunday brunch menu looked enticing. We may be back sooner than expected.

Excellent restaurant with a delicious, fresh entre of schnitzel, salad, red cabbage and bread. Service proved friendly and knowledgeable. I would dine here again when in Marquette.

The service was OK - we were seated quickly, and the food did not take too long, but things like getting our bill and paying our bill took quite a long time. The ceviche was $19-20 but a really big portion! It is a shrimp and whitefish ceviche. You get chips and salsa for free. They have additional salsa flavors with no price, so I asked to try the mango habanero; it was OK but then we found out we were charged $2 for it. We shared the birria tacos and the el jefe tacos, which were steak and avocado. Both were really delicious, although the steak in the El Jefe tacos was a bit overly fatty. I also had a skinny margarita, which was good but not $15 good. So the food was very tasty, but prices a little high.

Our server was nice, but everyone else seemed winded from the end of the day. The place was clean, well decorated, and although small, made good use of the space with two stories of seating including outdoors. However, as I've mentioned in my other reviews, accessibility is very important to me--27% of people in the US report having a disability, so I struggle to understand how we are not more accessible as a country. At this location: - there does appear to be a steep ramp in the back with a door that does open outward. I did not take this ramp, I do not know where it leads, I simply know it is there. Win. - there are several illuminated neon signs throughout the building, including in the bathrooms, that flicker at a rapid pace like an EEG. I understand this adds to the modern bright vibe. For me, it was unpleasant. Not quite enough to be "seizure-inducing," but I don't speak for everyone with a photosensitivity. - the bathrooms were in a corner, blockaded by a chair. - should this chair be moved, the doors opened outwards, a dark restroom with the neon light. I turned the overhead light on so the flickering wasn't so bad. The paper towel, soap, sink, and light switch are really high. - the bathroom door got stuck on my way out. I had to kick it three times. Not for the weak of ankle or wrist. - did I mention the stairs? If you don't take the ramp, tons of stairs in this place. It's cute and a good way to maximize human storage, but the lack of viable seating on the bottom "floor" means it fills up quick and if it's busy, there might be nowhere to sit but on top. - the AI wing-swing is gross It's cute, it's cliche, it's clean, it's pretty, it's modern. But there are things that were overlooked in the process that made it unwelcoming for some visitors :(
