Found this place on Yelp after a business meeting. Looking for something quick and good. I would highly recommend this place for a couple reason. First...They acknowledged me as soon as I walked in the door and asked how they could help me. Very friendly staff and GREAT first impression. Second...The inside and outside look great. The outdoor patios is covered and provides great shade. Indoor dining and looks are very nice. Third....The bathrooms were exceptionally clean and looked like new and stocked. Fourth...I ordered the Lamb Gyro with Lima bean salad from their recommendation. It was delicious. Finally....They (multiple people) checked on me frequently to make sure everything was good. Neither I nor my friend has been to this restaurant but boooy will be back! When we got there, the restaurant was packed with two seats left at the bar. Though I didn't want to sit at the bar I quickly forgot about my seating arrangement when the food came dancing out. We were greeted with the most delicious house bread. We ordered the Keftedes and spanakopita for our appetizer. For our entree, I ordered the pan-seared salmon with orzo in shank sauce, and my friend orders the oysters. Everything was great. There isn't anything bad I can say about my dining experience. Truly, thank you for delivering and serving authentic food to the community. Thank you for sharing your family recipes of culinary love. I wish the very best for this establishment as I will make sure to let others know what they are missing and they need to run, skip, jump to Stella's. Did I mention how great this food is? Went on a Tuesday night and it was so busy. We made reservations but we still had to wait 15 min for a table to be cleared. Food was good but overall a bit salty. If you get the sample, just know the spanakopita (phyllo) gets soggy bc the sauces are touching. I also would not recommend the moussaka, it is oddly sweet. I did enjoy the special of the day -rock fish with risotto but it was slightly saltier than I would like. We also tried the braised lamb shank, it was good but it was missing some kind of acid. In terms of Covid, we sat in the back corner which had a barrier from the rest of the restaurant which I liked but I noticed the rest of the restaurant is very small and they seat everyone very close together. I came here for a birthday dinner for my girlfriend. We both were looking forward to it since Stella's has been suggested to us from quite a few of our friends. As soon as we walked in we knew we were going to have a great time! First we each ordered some cocktails as we looked over all the great options on the menu. Paula got the very refreshing Santorini and I got the Ilios (essentially an old fashioned). Both of the drinks were great, and I would go back just to order more drinks on the menu. For our appetizer we had the mushroom saganaki. The only problem was that there wasn't enough of it! Such a delicious appetizer. For entrees I had the Braised lamb Shank and Paula had the pikelia. The grilled octopus, ladies and gents is where it's at. Ya know, if you're into that kind of thing. But even if you're not typically, this might just make you a believe in the eight tentacle wonder. While this dish was by far the stand-out for me, just about everything I tasted was delicious. However, to my slight disappointment I didn't love the Cypriot salad as much as I thought I would. While it's hard to go wrong with arugula, shaved fennel, halloumi, pistachio, fresh mint and grilled grapes the pistachio vinaigrette lacked the flavor I anticipated to round it all out. I think it kind of got lost in the flavor party. Service was wonderful and the atmosphere is cozy and enchanting. What a beautiful place. We went to a work reunion and it was next door in their store. It is so beautiful. Greek music, very friendly staff, amazing food. My husband and I are vegan and they made sure we were covered. They made this beautiful bean dish with pita Bread along with potatoes, spinach lemon rice and green beans in a tomato sauce. My family made a reservation a month in advance for when we would all be in town. You can make a reservation on Open Table as well! My biggest recommendations for this place are come with a group of people who is willing to do family style and try something new. They have a bunch of tapas options so family style is the way to go to get to try as much of their food as possible. Their drinks are on point. I got a good laugh at the fact they always have Stella on tap. The Santorini cocktail was a hit at our table and we really enjoyed the carafe of wine. The carafe is $18 and can easily be split up 2 or 3 people. It's not top shelf wine but it is tasty and reminds me of the free wine on the table in Greece. For a family of 4, our food order consisted of Stella's kalamari, mushroom saganaki, Pikelia, No5 pasta and a baklava to top the night off. With 2 tapas, 2 entrees and a dessert, we were stuffed and even had about half of the pasta left. Stella's kalamari was my favorite dish of the above. It's not fried and has good flavors. Pro tip is to dip your bread in the leftover juices from the kalamari. The mushroom saganaki had great presentation as it was flaming and good taste as well. Pikelia is a great entrée if you would like to sample a bunch of Greek classics and the No5 pasta is huge and would probably last me 3 meals on my own. It has a unique taste with a hint of nutmeg. The atmosphere is awesome and it was rolling since the minute we arrived. I like that they had soundboards behind all the booth tables so it wasn't too loud. Oh Stella's, always a good one. The interesting thing is we really like Stella's but if we end up deciding on a place we visit frequently in the city instead of trying a new restaurant we always resort back to Mamma Zu's, Edo's Squid and as of the last couple years Metzger Bar and Butchery. The other complaint I have is that Stella's has a small place... and reservations book up week's in advance... having a two year old planning in advance doesn't always work out. One Friday night I was sitting around after my daughter went to sleep trying to figure out what we are eating on Saturday night the next evening. If you know me, my life revolves around my meals... and on the weekends we like to go out to dinner. Anyway, after debating it some I looked up Stella's and what are the chances I found a reservation for three for 6:45pm... a little later than we would like since we typically put our daughter to sleep by 7:30pm but we also like to go with the flow and figured we put her down for a nap later than normal Saturday afternoon. My husband got a carafe of their house red wine... for those of you who plan on getting wine this is by far the best deal instead of getting a glass of non house wines or a bottle. The carafe is bigger than a regular bottle of wine. We've shared this before when I could drink (I was roughly 19 weeks pregnant when we went... 23 now). My husband forgot Stella's carafe is bigger than the typical "small" carafe that some restaurants offer. So keep that in mind if you order this... needless to say I drove us home:) We've been to Stella's probably a handful of times and it is always delicious. This go round we got the Keftedes ( lamb and beef meatballs, a little gamey ... I'd recommend Tazza Kitchen's Meatballs more). I got the special, Orecchiette with Scallops and Sausage in a Kale Pesto sauce. Absolutely delicious, and huge! There were probably 4 big scallops and a good deal of Sausage. It would've been better with 6 scallops given the price though. My husband got the No. 9 Pasta, definitely a go too. We love that they use bucatini pasta (long spaghetti noodles that have a hollow inside, image benne pasta but in spaghetti form) which does a good job holding on to the yummy meat sauce and heaps of feta that they put on top of it, always delicious. Last but not least we got their Hazelnut Baklava a la mode with salted caramel ice cream from Gelati Celesti (my favorite ice cream place in the RVA... my favorites as of late Almond Joy, Pumpkin Gingersnap, Baklava and Bavarian Mint... yum). While it was good... I've had better baklava, it could've used more hazelnut flavor and more honey to make it more moist (Check out the The Brickhouse in Midlothian, VA's baklava huge, moist and delicious... make sure you top it with ice cream too). Previous visits I've had their Special Soft Shell Crab dish (I think it was good but not too memorable), Shrimp Santorini (delicious especially with the huge chunks of feta... but portion size ... I wouldn't get this if you are starving), Moussaka is very good but you have to like Greek food and a mushy consistency to enjoy it. If you are considering the Pastichio I would go with the No.5 Pasta you will be happier you did. Spanakopita appetizer is good... but I'll be honest I've made it myself just as good :) My guess is it will be another year or so till we hit up Stella's again and I'm sure it will be just as good. Note... rumor has it they are opening a location in Charleston, SC... if you are a foody you need to go visit Charleston... some of the best southern restaurants I've ever been to! read more

I can't believe that it's my 200th Yelp review! =o I came with three friends with a reservation for four, which is good, because apparently the wait can be quite long. The restaurant is located in a very unassuming location, hidden amidst a very residential area. The restaurant is not too big; it has a bar area and a number of tables. There are some cool lanterns and ornately-patterned ceiling tiles. Our server was very patient with our group, despite the fact that we took a while deciding on what to order. He was friendly and attentive throughout the entire meal. All of us ended up ordering seafood dishes, as well as splitting the Grilled Haloumi as an appetizer. The grilled haloumi was great, paired perfectly with the white grapes and pine nuts. We enjoyed the complimentary bread with olive oil while we chatted and waited for our entrees. I also enjoyed a cup of avgolemono soup, which is one of my favorites. Stella's was not quite as lemony as ones I've had in the past, but it was still a delicious soup! I decided to order the grilled whole fish, picking Mediterranean sea bass. The fish was of decent size, so there was quite a lot of meat. The fish was served with a spinach-rice mix. The fish was AMAZING. Super flavorful and flaky, with a crisp skin and tender flesh. i slowly worked my way through the entire fish, including all the nooks and crannies in the head (the cheek meat is always good) and eyeballs. I am proud of myself for getting through that much of the fish using a fork instead of chopsticks. When the server came to collect my plate, containing nothing but the tail and bones, he commented, "now THAT'S how you eat fish!" =) I do love my fish, and I've had a lot of practice coming from an island heritage. My family dropped by to Stella's for their Sunday brunch. As we know that they get crowded, we decided to get there right at 10 AM and were able to get a table without a reservation. I normally order a gyro, but this time I decided to try the Stella's crab benedict and my boyfriend decided to order the lamb skillet. The crab benedict was delicious and had a ton of crab. It was a very large portion and more than enough for me to take some home. The lamb skillet was good as well. All in all, Stella's is a great spot for brunch and I will definitely be back in the future! The only thing to keep in mind is that it can get very crowded, so come early. read more

Wow, just wow. This is some of the best Greek food I've ever had. We specifically came here for lunch on our rare weekday off, knowing the long wait that can happen during peak hours. Everything was great. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. The food was incredible. The fried calamari appetizer was some of the best calamari. The squid was very fresh and fried to perfection. The butter sauce that it came with was lemony and savory and complimented the calamari extremely well. The moussaka was unlike anything I've had before - a balance of soft and crunchy, light and indulgent. It had so much flavor and was the perfect comfort meal. We also had a shrimp pasta special which was very good, although it could have used a little salt. All in all, it was an amazing experience to eat at Stella's! WOW! A must go to in the Richmond area. For the longest time, I heard wonderful things from friends in the area and finally had the chance to try it out. The hype was worth it! We sampled a variety of dishes (meze) and were very impressed. First off, the flaming cheese! I honestly was not expecting much, as I am not the biggest fan of cheese, but the flavor and smokiness in this was irresistible and I found myself continuously going back for more. Other dishes to rave about: the chicken was the juiciest and softest meat I've ever had. The calamari was plentiful and extremely enjoyable to eat. Lamb and potatoes- delicious! The No. 5 pasta was huge and enjoyable to share, but the flavor wasn't my favorite compared to the quality of the other dishes. Overall, GREAT experience with Greek food and Stella's. Okurrrr. So this is like one of the most aesthetically, tastefully, brunchiest places ever. I haven't been to many Greek restaurants, so it was definitely more unfamiliar to me than most. But I'm such a breakfast person that I love that I could find a hearty dish that was the equivalent of perfectly cooked eggs, some yummy pastry, and bomb potatoes. I got the Spanokopita in the traditional Greek swirl style! Basically the pastries are phyllo pastry stuffed with spinach and feta I believe? It's laying over some really well-seasoned potatoes topped with glorious eggs. The gooey egg drips down through the layers and pastry into the potatoes. It's legit. I also really like how bustling it was and the cheery atmosphere. The communal table in the center is where I sat with my girls, and it was different and a bit tight. But I really liked the idea! It definitely could help have you meet other people you don't know. But of course they had traditional tables as well. It was a bit loud as I went to brunch during the busiest time on Sunday morning right after the place opened at 10. But that's to be expected. Oh!
