Overall, the food had some great highlights, but there were also a few issues during our dining experience. My cousin ordered the French toast, which was flavorful, though one piece was unfortunately burnt. She also ordered a side of potatoes and bacon. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned -- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside -- but the bacon never arrived with her meal. I ordered the apricot salad, which was fresh and delicious, especially when paired with the orange vinaigrette, which added a wonderful flavor. However, the burrata cheese was initially missing from the salad. Thankfully, our server was attentive and happily brought it out once we mentioned it. Wanted to love this place but there are simply better Italian spots especially with their prices The service was great and they do have great drinks if you just want a cocktail it would be a good spot for happy hour. Their HH menu is pretty good and the live music is wonderful The food didn't taste fresh and the carbonara (what they're known for) was barely lukewarm and the cheese was in chunks. They do a poor job in balancing the flavors and it tasted like a salt bomb from the cheese. Don't recommend it at all The pasta was hard and tasted straight from the box. Botanya is truly a gem! I went on an impromptu date and was truly surprised by the service, the craftsmanship of the cocktails and the flavors of our meals. Seating was timely. We went on a Saturday and there weren't too many people seated so we had the luxury of requesting a bigger table, which they were able to accommodate. We started with the Mussels and Clams in the Diavola sauce. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Truly. I don't even know what to say. It was great. They offer some kind of house bread. Very interesting. It got stale fast. A true jaw workout. I had the Prince of Gala; a slightly bitter yet sweet take on a bourbon based French 75 served in a martini glass. I enjoyed it. My partner had the Pirata de Sevilla and the Blacksmery Negroni. The Pirata de Sevilla is very similar to a refreshing green apple jolly rancher. The Blacksmery Negroni was truly a work of art. 11/10. Best drink I've had in a long while. It almost tasted how Black Cherry Merlot or Red Opium smell. I am a big fan of carbonara and was stoked to find out that Richmond had a tableside preparation option in a Parmesan wheel. This was a super cute experience and would totally recommend it as a dinner date idea. However, the carbonara was really salty (which is why this rating is 4 stars)! If I am paying upwards of $25 a dish, a resturant should not be giving me paper menus covered in tomato sauce or seating me at a completely lopsided shaky table. Service was slow. To be quite honest, I don't understand the reviews regarding the food because the carbonara was the first time I experienced one that wasn't dry or too egg-like. The prosciutto croquettes were dope and hit the spot. I can agree with the opinion that the dishes are a little more expensive than they should be but I feel that way about many places nowadays. Additionally, the bowls in which the pasta dishes come are a bit deep so it looks like there is less than there actually is. In any case, I think the food is tasty & worth it! The drinks are equally tasty. They didn't have exactly what I wanted so our waitress, the lovely Sarah, put something together for me that hit the spot. Additionally, the old fashioned with the fire was awesome to see and equally tasty! Speaking of Sarah, what a sweetheart. Botanya likely needs to revamp if they want to stay relevant. They consistently have so many three-star reviews, and that's not great for a restaurant in the heart of Carytown. Since I'm sharing my opinion, I think they should refocus to be drinks-oriented. Their coffees that I've had there have been stellar (and gorgeous!). I also enjoyed my cocktail on a recent visit. But the food leaves a lot to be desired. The pumpkin soup was weird - it had way too many croutons and parmesan cheese in it. The breakfast plate was okay but nothing special. My first time dining at Botanya was an overall pleasant experience. The ambiance & decor were very inviting & soothing. The service was courteous & attentive. The food was delicious. My only side note was on the Pumpkin Risotto I ordered. The clams were rubbery. The mussels & the lobster were tender & tasteful. I would leave the clams out of the equation if possible & add more mussels. Otherwise, I had no problems with the risotto. I came here for a family dinner a few weeks ago and had a lovely time. Their green vibe is fun and their Spanish and Italian offerings are plentiful. They have a variety of things to pick from on the menu, but do know this place isn't cheap. Our party was left feeling that things were priced really high for what we got. We each started out with some of their bruschetta. I was surprised to find it heated up in an almost sauce like way. Our waitress was really sweet and helpful with the menu. My MIL enjoyed the prosciutto croquettes. Some of our party got the sangria and like it. My fiancé and I shared the burrata salad and bistecca. The pepper was heavy on the salad and sorta drowned in olive oil. I enjoyed the cherry tomatoes and burrata in it! As for our steak I was happy with the cut we got, although not really seasoned, it was still fine. There was another big group here when we came. This restaurant is for the vibes. Just an FYI--there is parking behind the restaurant, and according to our waitress, it costs $1.00, but that may change by your next visit. Service was a bit slow at first; it took some time for our waitress to return and take our drink orders, and then we waited a while to receive our drinks. Once they arrived, we placed our appetizer and entrée orders. The food came out fairly quickly--our appetizer arrived, and within seconds, our entrées followed. We initially ordered mussels and scallops, but they ran out of scallops, so we were told we'd receive extra mussels instead. However, it wasn't clear if we actually did. My husband ordered the fettuccine with fried shrimp, which came with three pieces of shrimp. I had the lobster ravioli, which included six pieces. He enjoyed his dish, but mine was disappointing--the ravioli wasn't warm, was bland, and definitely not worth $26. For drinks, he had wine, and I had a lemon drop, which was good. They also didn't have lobster ravioli which left me ordering the beef lasagne. Lasagne wasn't disgusting but lacked any real flavor and was cold in the middle. Seems like they torched the top to crispin and melt the cheese then threw it in the microwave. The meatball appetizer also wasn't terrible. It had steam coming from the outside but the inside was just under warm and also lacked any real flavor as far as seasonings are concerned. the best thing about this place is the atmosphere. the servers were sweet, however more than anything they touched in at the beginning to take the order but outside of that, we sat a while with dishes on the table and took a bit to take drink orders despite only having 4 other tables with three servers on the floor. I had the gnocchi alla vodka ($18) and added chicken ($6). As you can see in the photo, the portion was extremely small and the chicken looked like it was torn apart. The gnocchi wasn't pillowy and the texture led me to believe it was frozen and reheated. The tableside preparation for the carbonara ($28 + $6 for chicken) is also more for the aesthetic. The pasta itself wasn't very warm by the time the preparation was done and in the photo you can see the small portion size for what is considered to be 2 orders of chicken.
