Check in on yelp for buy 1 get 1 free tasting. Wines here were so easy to drink that we bought 6 bottles for the 20% discount. So worth it! We bought the Sauvignon Blanc and Rose. The Pinot noir, cabs and syrah were quite easy to drink too. No tannins. We got to revisit one or two wines and some got to try extra wines. Towards the end the lady didn't seem like she wanted to pour anymore because she was like oh um ok... we are buying buying a good amount wine! Don't need to be stingy! read more

Oh wow. I just saw the owners comment to my review. To the owner, you obviously don't remember who we were. It wasn't during a lunch rush because your venue had plenty of open seats and it was like late in the afternoon... Also, great job for trying to argue with irrelevant points. In town for a Women in Wine industry event and stopped into Stephen & Walker. Debra was absolutely fantastic! She was extremely knowledgeable about every wine and is obviously very passionate. She was able to give us more then just a tasting experience but an education about the brand and viticulture. The Monterey Pinot Noir was done in a beautiful Burgundian style. The RRV Zinfandel was light, not over extracted, and a beautiful expression of the varietal. Howell Mountain Cab Sauv was stunning and elegant. My personal favorite was the Syrah - but anytime I get blueberry and white pepper in a wine I am sold. Dry Creek Vally Petite Sirah paired with a Dukkah (sp?) dusted cheese was mind blowing. Debra also late is taste "Portenous" their port which was the best way to finish - not overally sticky or viscous and extremely well balanced. I will definitely return! read more

Walked right on in just an hour before closing and the two gentleman working were so friendly and helpful to my first wine tasting experience. Many tasting rooms in the town close at 5:30 or 6 but they were open until 7. It's a great deal for trying 6 wines and a complimentary paired cheese plate but if you end up purchasing a bottle (which you definitely will want to) they waive the tasting fee. As with all proper wine tastings I'm sure, they gave a little history and explained about each one, but it really was a charming experience and the passion behind them was heartening. The ladies next to me were local and raving about the Pinot and what a hit it was amongst their friends, but I generally prefer Cabs and their cab was even better than I'd expected, so smooth, even the zinfandel was very agreeable to me. I bought a bottle to bring home for friends and ended up drinking it that night because it was better than the other red I had for myself so now I NEED to go back. read more

First time exploring Healdsburg, and our experience at the Stephen & Walker tasting room was beyond amazing. They were absolutely following COVID protocol, as hand sanitizer was provided upon entry, a reservation was required, and my boyfriend and I were the only people in the tasting room for most of our visit. Richard, our sommelier, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable (and talked to us for hours while wearing a mask!) The Portentous Mendocino stole the show as the final taste in the five wine flight we enjoyed. Walking into Stephen & Walker, we were immediately and cordially greeted by Michael, the manager/sommelier. With an easy demeanor and an evident passion and knowledge of wine, Michael's presentation of the various S&W wines is a refreshingly casual and pleasant experience... From the crisp fruity notes of the Sauvignon Blanc and the Zinfandel, to the full-bodied taste and texture of their Cabernet, it is little wonder that S&W wines have garnered such accolades and awards... Keep in mind that their production runs of a particular wine/year typically numbers less than 500 cases, so their pricing is at a premium... and well worth it... well worth it. We walked into the tasting room which was empty. The lady behind the counter never once acknowledged our presence until my husband greeted her. The tasting felted rushed and her lack of communication made us feel uncomfortable. Not a great way to sell wine. Ended up paying fee to just get out of there. Everything about Stephen & Walker and what they offer is just right. Guess you could describe them as the Goldilocks of wineries, in California and beyond. Stumbled upon their tasting room quite by accident back in June. Not sure why I decided to drive up to North Bay at 2 pm on a Saturday, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Three hours and a ton of road construction/traffic problems later, we finally made it to Healdsburg. Aaaand most of the tasting rooms were closed or were closing soon. Decided to just park the car and visit who was open - Stephen & Walker was the last spot on our visit and boy, was it a good find! What I really liked about this particular winery was the laid-back attitude of the staff. They definitely don't pull that Disney-gimmacy charm like some others. You know when you go to a restaurant, the waiter stoops down to the table asks if you've ever dined there before (like you don't know how a restaurant works? I don't like tasting rooms that put on the fake charm. Just. Show. Me. The. Wine. And show us the wine they did. in a land of oaky Chardonnay's, they managed to knock my socks off with a Cabernet and Zinfandel. This is not the stuff that soccer moms put on ice and drink daintily on the porch, folks, this is some heavy (and heavenly!) shit! Ended up taking home a bottle and we drank it that night with a steak on the grill. Yum! Several months later, I ordered a bottle for a Christmas gift. This time it was the Petite Syrah - we haven't yet opened up, as it's being saved for a special occasion. But I'll definitely let you know how it tastes. Side note: shipping is not unreasonable at all! I've refrained from purchasing wine online before, as shipping often costs more than the wine itself. It was an extra $15 and took 3 days with delivery confirmation. Not bad at all. If you love red wine that will put some hair on your chest (don't fear, ladies, this isn't a bad thing), definitely check out Stephen & Walker wines. I am personally not usually a zinfandel fan but the River Valley is fabulous almost a pino noir. We somehow managed to fit this winery in...I'm not quite sure how but we did nonetheless. It was pretty underwhelming. I appreciate the idea of trying to do a food pairing with each of the wines but it wasn't well executed. Some of the flavors really didn't pair well. The staff was also not my favorite, not rude or unfriendly, just not attentive and didn't seem as knowledgeable as a lot of the other winery tasting room associates. one of them kept referring to their port as a "hot tub wine", and I found that a little creepy. Thanks again to Yelp! While finishing up brunch at nearby Parish, Kevin P. and I began looking at nearby wineries and tasting rooms.. We were headed out of town and had limited time, so we were hoping to find a place where we didn't need to drive far. Just our luck, we found Stephen & Walker right next to our parking spot. I spotted a review by Abby S. Knowing how cool she is, and how highly she reviewed this place, we had to check it out! It was still early on a Saturday, just before noon, and most wineries were beginning to open. We walked in to find only one other couple finishing up at the bar with the lone hostess. The tasting room appeared to be new. Everything was tastefully decorated with plenty of spots to sit. Before we even walked in we were greeted and invited to sit at the bar. We were provided the greatest attention from our pourer. She provided just enough attention to make us feel welcome, but also let us have our space. The wine tasting included a small cheese platter which is just enough to heighten some of the wine's flavors and aromas. Since they produce very small amounts of wines they were out of a few, including their cabernet. Their Zinfandel and Pinot Noir were quite tasty, and we ended up leaving with both. One of the most interesting aspects of this visit was the fact that our hostess/wine pourer was born in Bakersfield, Oildale to be exact! Small world! We reminisced about Trouts and the good old Bakersfield Sound. This is a great tasting room with wonderful personalized attention. It's close to nearly everything in downtown Healdsburg, so it's a win-win wine destination. read more

The wine and cheese is absolutely amazing. The customer service is by far the worst I've ever had. Every time I go in there even as a member- I am now canceling membership- the lady's are terribly rude. Last time I went to pick up a club purchase that I had already paid for and the lady working didn't know how to print a receipt. For an hour she held me and my friend captive refusing to hand me my already paid for wine while she complained and bitched about how she couldn't print a receipt and it was soooo important she print it even though I said over and over I don't want a receipt. Even other guests were staring at her while she ignored us all bitching about her computer. Oh and the best part is when I went to take a sip of wine she poured and she screeched at me "don't taste it until I'm done explaining it!" Seriously?! Who does that?! I am a member at several wineries in Sonoma County and I've have never gotten such terrible service at any winery. I'm actually thinking this could be the worst customer service experience I've had its by far the worst wine tasting experience I have had. read more

Before my last trip to Healdsburg, Steve T basically made me swear on my life that I would visit Stephen & Walker. I penciled it in to the schedule, but didn't get there until the final day of wine room-hopping, so perhaps the stellar impression he had was lost on this weary wino. By the time of my visit, I was a wine zombie and everything was starting to taste the same. Our experience was definitely positive; the guy pouring really knew his stuff. We walked with a nice bottle of sauvignon blanc that was moderately priced. This place is a hop, skip and a jump from where we usually stay, so I'll definitely plan to check it out during the first half of our trip next time! read more

This place is a gem. I made the fortunate mistake of walking into this place trying to get to Partake (nextdoor). I came back after dinner just because Mary was super nice when I walked in earlier. This would've been worth the $10 tasting fee, but that charge was waived because I bought some wine. Each and every wine was compelling on their own. Nancy Walker does an incredible job of creating delicious, well-balanced, unique wines. However, the guidance of, and interaction with Mary made it a completely enjoyable tasting experience. I stopped by a few days later because I couldn't resist picking up a few more bottles. This time, Deborah, the manager, helped me. She was equally enthusiastic and engaging as Mary. I adore being a member. It is just one of those places where there is no bad wine. Super friendly gals. Breadsticks are to die for, especially after your 3rd or 4th tasting. They have expanded to doing a cheese tasting that goes with it. If you become a member, one of my favorite parts of the membership is the magnum bottle you get in November. Visited last December after hearing great things. The woman who poured for us sat on the phone for about five minutes in the office before she came out to great us. In my opinion no phone call is that important to not help/greet a guest especially in December when you probably see around 10-15 people on a given day. Also the office faced the tasting room so she saw us. I tasted two Sauvignon Blancs side by side one from Dry Creek and the other from Sonoma Coast. I enjoyed the Sonoma Coast more because of the great amount of acidity. Their Pinot Noir and Petite Sirah were good as well, but nothing really impressed me. It really wasn't the wine, but the service. Throughout the pouring she kept talking about the wine club and how many people they have. I have no problem with staff talking and promoting their wine club, but you need to show above and beyond service first. Don't just tell me you have so many...show me why they have all signed up. read more

Normally I shy away from fabricated, new-looking places. With its central location just off the Plaza in Healdsburg, I initially walked by the Stephen & Walker tasting room and dismissed it as touristy junk. Holy moly -- was I wrong! Walk in and try all of their wines, top to bottom. Both the wines and the staff embody how I feel about wine. It's not about the hoity-toity description of aromas and bouquets and terroir. It's about what tastes good to you and what floats **your** boat. This means something different to everyone. They'll do a flight of their zins, have you taste blindly to see which style/vineyard location is your favorite. They'll pair with cheeses or sweets. They'll chat and walk you through the wines and make sure you have a great time. It's a genuine, family-run place that just wants to make top-quality wine that tastes damn good. Open until 7 on weekends, the tasting is $10. But, depending on what's on the list I've seen up to 8 wines available (and it's free for 2 tasters if you make a purchase). Bottles start around $30 and up to $65 for the spectacular Cab and a Port. Not a cheapie-everyday wine, but something to savor with good friends and a good meal. read more
