I had a 2nd molar that needed to be pulled as it had broken pretty badly. I had it pulled last Friday, October 9th. It literally took him less than 2 minutes to get it out of my mouth once I was numbed, and I felt NOTHING. I didn't even take any medicine once the anesthesia wore off. Honestly... Carus was paid by the VA for my teeth cleaning. There should be records in their system on this but no one at this business wants to confirm anything. Due to the way business is conducted here there may be a double billing issue with your account. I'm not surprised that other veterans experienced poor customer care with this business.

I have never had any kind of surgery before so I was incredibly nervous. I know it was early in the morning, but everyone just kept ushering me from spot to spot and not explaining anything that was going to happen. When I got seated in the surgical chair, the assistant just kept grabbing me and slapping sensors on me and messing with my arm looking for a vein. No one was talking to me, explaining anything that was happening, or setting any expectations. I was already incredibly anxious and all of this made me start to cry. Obviously this is already embarrassing, but when one of the nurses noticed she just blurted out "Oh no are you crying?!" in a really condescending tone. This made me more embarrassed and just made me cry more. No one bothered to slow down and try to make me feel better, they just kept putting more things on me and then someone said "If you go to sleep upset, you'll just wake up upset" in a really frustrated tone which did absolutely nothing to make me feel better obviously and once again just made me cry more. Then they just rolled the entire table of surgical instruments right in front of my face where I could see them which was definitely not going to help. This was a pretty traumatizing experience and my entire first day of recovery was just spent crying and upset. Everyone in my life that I have talked to about this experience is horrified and said that they all had lovely experiences with their dental surgeons when getting their wisdom teeth out. Not sure what the deal is here. I know it was an early morning appointment, but I'm still a person getting surgery for the first time, not just a task at the office. Please try and use more empathetic bedside manner with your patients.

The procedure went well, I did not experience any pain or discomfort during and Mark and his team were professional and courteous. If you need dental work done, head here, you will be in good hands. Edit: It is now one week since the surgery. Marc used a local time released anesthetic on the extraction site and told me around day 3 there would be some pain. Day 1-3 there was almost no pain, on day 4 and 5 my jaw was a little tight but still very little pain, the surgery is now healed as far as I can tell and I couldn't be happier with the results. Seriously, the only time I would go to the dentist was when I had a problem. This led me to Old Settlers several years ago where I met Dr. Zavala. He fixed me up, brought me back for a cleaning etc. He recommended a deep cleaning. I didn't return. I think that was in 2016/17. I developed another problem. I think this time it was a cavity. Maybe a root canal. So I went back. Dr. Zavala and his team (shout out to Jessica) really came down to my adolescent level and worked with me. Dr. Zavala has excellent bedside manner. He talked me through everything he did and made sure I had enough numbing in the gums so I wouldn't feel anything. I went back for the deep cleaning. He numbed me up for the initial clean. One hour per side which took two visits. It was a challenge for me as I can't sit still that long, but, they were awesome and got me through it. So now it's routine visits every four months with tooth cleaner extraordinaire Jessica. I've just completed my second cleaning, and, I take it like a real grown up. I'm no longer that scared little boy. I've turned twelve, and, the world is amazing.
