The rooms are surprisingly quiet for an older building. The AC worked well in the room. There are no TV's in the rooms so it's a nice place to go to disconnect. There are multiple seating areas throughout if you want to sit outside your room. There's also a restaurant, The Jefferson, onsite that serves breakfast & lunch. The thermostat asked for a PIN code, and nothing we tried worked. We contacted the innkeeper in the middle of the night and were told to turn the dial instead of touching the screen and to open the windows. We had already tried both. Around 4:30 a.m., she came to our room. Three of the four windows were stuck shut, and the only one she was able to open had no screen, making it unusable. Around 5:00 a.m., we were told someone had "turned the AC back on," and only then did the room begin cooling. What was most frustrating was the inconsistent explanation. We were initially told this had never happened before. Later we were told the heating system automatically switched because it was 58 degrees outside. If that's how the system works, the listing shouldn't advertise central air conditioning without explaining that guests may not actually be able to use it. We were awake for most of the night because the room was so warm. We politely requested some type of refund or credit since the advertised air conditioning wasn't available, but that request was denied. The property itself is nice, but customer service during this situation was very disappointing. We simply expected a comfortable night's sleep and a reasonable effort to make things right.

I watched him give personal items away to guests, carry items up and down stairs for people and I don't know if he ever stops helping people. From what I can tell that is true. He was there every day I was this summer. I stayed 3 separate occasions this year for a total of 15 nights. Joe seems to be the only person working in the office open to close (7 days a week). What I will say is whoever owns the mainsail now should get this guy some help. He is strict but so was Diane and Chet who were the best owners. Rules are a great way to preserve the mainsail. Joe if you see this I hope your leg heals fast and thank you for all your help. I know you said to say staff if I left a review but you deserve some credit. You better be getting paid for all those hours you give to others for free, because you're missing out spending that time with your little daughter and family. Keep up the good work. I'll be seeing you in 2025. Positives - The people who work there - Safe - Clean - The family feeling -Location - Still open (October 23) - Price was very cheap compared to that of recent years. Included with hotel rate - nightly tea and sweets as well as daily made to order breakfast. What I didn't like as much : Rooms are outdated - I can appreciate the historical charm but the AC in our room was a but rickety and the filters needed a deep cleaning b/c they were DUST-TAY! The beds weren't uncomfortable but not super comfy either. Included with the hotel rate - nightly treats with tea were just ok, they seemed like an afterthought for something that should've added to the charm of a nightly tea. There was a bottle of water in the room when we got there so we assumed it was included, we saw a note afterwards it would be $5! Service desk was kind enough to comp it but $5 for water, come on?!? A few bottles should always be complimentary for your guests. Security - maybe it's a low crime area BUT anyone could just come in and out of the building. The hotel room doors don't have any added security - no deadbolts or additional locking mechanisms. All in all - we liked the hotel but didn't love it. It served its purpose while we were there but if we would were to go back this area we may opt to stay elsewhere.

I rented the only room with a full kitchenette and it was so spacious and perfect for the hub of my family. It is on the first floor and was so clean. We signed a 3 year lease spending the 1st year there mostly on weekends and occasional days during the week, once we made it our single home after selling our house over a year ago reality set in. A lot of people will think they want to live at their favorite vacation spot until you live with the reality of random people who can & will walk/run by your living room sliders just feet away from your so called privacy at all times of day and night, it is a motel... When we were 1st there the night sky was amazing until an enormous flag went up that needs enormous lights to illuminate it every night. Then once the property owner's primary home was reportedly (by him) auctioned off he moved his family into one of the homes, (the former renters of that unit had a year plus lease, apparently they bailed within a few months), shortly after that the ongoing state of construction seemed to increase. With the heavy equipment and contractors trucks / trailers coming and going we woke one morning this past spring to the back of my wife's SUV having the rear corner punched in, we surely could not confirm that it happened in the parking lot so the next day I put a web cam pointing out back..damage done but we at least tried to be more careful. Dogs are (seemingly) not allowed on the property but one day earlier this year his contractor's 70lb dog came bounding into our open door (I thought we couldn't have dogs in the home!!). We love dogs and the dog was a known frequent guest on the property while the newest building was going up. We dodged a bullet with the just announced boil water alert for the surrounding area due to E Coli found in the water just recently! The positive is that the ocean view is great though being on the wrong side of RT1A you become very familiar with just how loud motorcycles can be and even worse the new trend of extreme stereo systems on some bikes. Again, short stay vs long stay. We creatively "negotiated" our way out of the lease conveniently before the cold winter months started and we have the mutually agreed lease termination document to prove it (one of the landscapers told my wife that he was sorry to hear that we were evicted?? A family member of mine heard the same story from a mutual friend that has absolutely nothing to do with any party involved. Where did this defaming lie originate?) Any way we left wondering how we stayed in such cramped space as long as we did! We have returned to being home owners once again and live just miles from the old Crown Colony. For future vacations that are near $3k for a week my wife and I can stay all inclusive in the Caribbean resort with food/drink & airfare included!
