I called Stephen's back in May (apologies for the delayed review) in the hope that they could resolve an exasperating problem with my 2006 Jeep Wrangler ... chronic water leaks on the passenger's side door. I bought this Jeep new and it never leaked ... until I made the terrible mistake of having Certified Automotive Disasters (Upham Street, Melrose) do a substantial amount of mechanical and body work (see my Google and Yelp reviews for details of that monumental debacle). I was almost ready to give up on the water leaks when I called a *real* body shop, Stephen's, to see if they would be willing to at least look at it. I wouldn't have blamed them if they declined to try to fix Certified Automotive Disasters' mess, but, luckily for me, they didn't, and I was able to quickly schedule a time to bring it over for them to assess. Enter Shawn Bolger ... although he rightfully made no promises, he said they would try to adjust the door to stop the leaks. I dropped off my Jeep the following week, and, to my absolute elation, their adjustments seem to have solved the dreaded leak problem. Although it didn't rain a lot this summer, we had several heavy downpours and occasional lighter rainfall, and every time, without exception, my Jeep stayed bone dry (including, most recently, the all-day heavy rain on Sun 09.13). To say I'm thrilled is an understatement ... until you've had a car that has water leaks, you don't know how life changing it is to again have one that doesn't. So thank you to Shawn and the techs who were not only willing to try to help a complete stranger with an unconventional request, but who also had the skill and experience to fix the problem. I can't recommend Stephen's enough based on this brief but outstanding experience ... thank you again. read more

This autobody shop has had my vehicle for almost a full month. Today was the 3rd time that I have been lied to about the completion time and when the car would be ready and have the work completed. The car was initially dropped off on 12/22 and I was told "it might be take two weeks or so to fix because of the holidays". We were. On 1/5/26 I called to check in and was told that a few parts were back ordered and it would be a few more days before the car was ready but it would be done by Friday the 9th. On Friday 1/5 I called again to check in and was again told the vehicle would not be done until the beginning of next week. After calling again on 1/13/26 we were told that the car would be "for sure" finished by EOD Friday 1/16/26. I personally called at 2pm today to confirm it would be ready to which the receptionist told me, "it needs a few more hours but will be done today". My family and I stopped by at 4:30pm today, 30 minutes before closing as we had still not heard anything about a pickup time, and the front of the car has still not been put back on. With the mechanic now telling us that the car wont be finished until 1/19 or 1/20. The staff at Stephen's Autobody has only been consistent with the lies they have communicated on over the last 4 weeks and I could not discourage patronage to this business anymore. geico recommended them to repair my driver side door and front fender. I picked up the car and there were tiny pebble like blemishes in the paint. I had to return the car a second time for them to buff it, at great inconvience. upon being told that my car was ready, I picked up my car. The same blemishes are STILL on my car. Recently had a minor accident and had my car repaired at Stephen's. It was a totally seamless process. Dropped off the car, didn't have to make a separate trip to meet an adjuster; picked up a rental from the agency on premises and returned several days later to pick up the car. Shop needs to pay attention to details. The car shouldn't have to visit shop three times for the same small issue and then go to another shop for corrections. The insurance company was very understanding and agreed to fix all Stephens' work. Stop charging 4 percent fee for using a debit or credit card. Get your own card reader and hide the fees in your high rates. When I purchased my auto insurance, i paid extra for a $300 deductible. When i went to pick up my car, you tried to charge me $312 for a deductible on a policy that said $300. Customers hate scam fees, and they never forget. I strongly recommend finding another shop. read more

I'm done with Stephen's Auto Body, and I've been going there for almost 20 years. They used to be terrific, but I've noticed a big drop in quality and customer service over the last few years - and especially over the last couple years. The woman who answers the phone has a ridiculous attitude, and is simply, rude. She must be family, because she should have been canned long ago, otherwise. During my last visit a few months ago, she argued with their adjuster in front of me, it was uncomfortable to say the least. Then when I got my truck back home I noticed a new scratch that wasn't there before. They pack the vehicles into a tiny lot so I'm sure it happened there but I didn't bother fighting with them about because I saw others with the same issue that went nowhere. I also did some out of pocket work there (didn't go through insurance) about a year or so ago, and they charged me a fee (4% if I remember correctly) because I wanted to use my card. I'm sorry, it doesn't cost you that much for a fee from the card company. The owner told me "I'm just a little guy trying to earn a living." Bull crap - that's nickel and diming. No way does it cost you that much. The guy belongs to the country club and has another location in Melrose/Malden line full of expensive toys. I don't begrudge anyone making a profit, I'm a capitalist, but don't BS me like that. I recently made a claim and was reluctantly heading there again. After experiencing the same attitude once again I scheduled with another auto body shop. I'm done. No mas. Just cannot emphasize enough how terrible this place has gotten. Too bad, I was loyal for many years, with many claims for my family's multiple automobiles, and I recommended Stephen's to people for many years as well. No more. No way. They don't deserve my loyalty nor business any more. There are better and higher rated options locally. read more

Upon my daughters recommendation, I took my car here as I was involved in a hit-and-run and my bumper was damaged. They had my car for eight days they did a wonderful job. This was by far the best experience I've had with an auto body shop. I had a fender bender and was able to make an appointment a couple days later. My insurer, Geico, recommended it based on them having an on-site adjuster which could help expedite any unforseen repairs. The service was very friendly and extremely prompt. I brought the car in at 9am on Tuesday and they estimated it would take about 3 days to finish the repairs. I was thrilled because other shops I've been to it's usually estimated to take a week minimum (and ends up taking longer). I received text updates throughout the entire process and my car was ready to be picked up Wednesday at 11am (THE NEXT DAY!). They did an excellent job with the paint and repairs. I couldn't have asked for it to look better. On top of that, they even washed the interior and exterior of my car which was completely unexpected. I will definitely be coming back for any further work I need done and will be sending friends as well. Best experience you could hope for after the aggravation of getting into an accident. read more

A few weeks ago, our car was victim to a hit in a run in a parking lot, completely wrecking the front hood, bumper, etc. Stephen's Auto Body was recommended to us through Geico and I'm so glad it was! Everyone was so friendly, helpful and fast. I dropped the car off and was able to pick up a rental, all under 20 minutes. Being that was it was right before the holidays, we needed the car in order to travel back to PA and NY. The parts were going to take over 10 days to arrive, ruining our plans and our Christmas trip. Stephen's Auto Body sent someone to Long Island to pick up the necessary parts in order to get the car finished and ready so that we didn't need to delay our trip! It was so thoughtful and much appreciated! Even better--the job they did on the car was fabulous and the detailing was immaculate. WOW! I had a pretty fantastic experience here (which, given the situation - dented car from an accident) is pretty impressive. I met with Bill and had my insurance papers ready to give him and made an appointment for a few days' time. He said he would go ahead and order the parts for my Subaru so that they would be ready when the car was brought it. He confirmed that he would be able to make the repair for (what even I considered) was a low amount given by the insurance company. I also asked him to take care of a dent that was outside of the accident area and told him that I would pay extra for that since it was not the responsibility of the insurance company since it was not from the accident. We dropped the car off for Friday morning and it was ready by Wednesday of the following week. The car looked GORGEOUS. The work was top notch, AND they took care of many additional dings and scratches for NO additional charge. When I offered to pay him for the additional work, Bill waved it away. (Again, wow!) Not only did the car look shiny and brand new on the outside, but it was totally cleaned and detailed on the inside. (And I have two small kids and a huge hairy dog!) WOW. Again, WOW! THis is definitely the only place I will bring my car to should I have any other autobody issues. What a great experience. read more

Yeah, these guys are great. I was in an accident (not my fault, still a pain in the *!$) and my insurance company included Stephen's on their preferred list -- you can legally use any shop you want in Mass., but it's a heck of a lot easier if you do it their way. So with some reservations about how much croneyism there would be, I chose them, and am very happy with them. Melrose is easy to get to off 95 or 93, and though Stephen's is a little off the beaten path, it's in a well-lit, well-populated area and GPS had no problem finding it. The tow to get my vehicle came exactly when they say it would. The driver was courteous, and also in/out in like six minutes from my wee Somerville street. Repairs took about half the time of the outside estimate they gave me. Bumper, grill, reservoir under windshield, and one headlight were replaced; fender was fixed. Car looks like it took a step back in time, spotless repairs. Note: My Subaru had juuuuuuust too many miles on the engine to be treated as "new", which made me said (we're talking 21000 miles vs 20000 miles here), and I was worried that the aftermarket parts wouldn't exactly match the OEM. The paint was dead on even in full sunlight, though, and it all looked beautiful. I kind of wish they had replaced both headlights because the housing for the old one now looks a little worn out in comparison... :) Also, I don't know if they do this as a matter of course or if it was some special Geico arrangement, but they detailed my car in and out for me! Pretty sweet. Everyone I spoke with was friendly, no-nonsense, and efficient. Definitely recommended though I hope, sincerely, that I never need their services or similar again. Let me start off by saying that I am extremely picky about my car, boarder line obnoxious. The level of service I received at Stephen's was of the highest caliber. Everyone was extremely nice and they put up with my worries about the work being done. The shop technician took the time to answer all my questions and assure me the work would be done correctly. The women at the front desk were all so nice and kept me in the loop while my car was being worked on. I had a coating on my car that needed to be removed and reapplied, this was a concern of mine. They not only had it done but they put it on a flat bed and had it shipped up the the place I originally had it done. This was awesome because it was done by someone I knew and trusted. The work they did was perfect you can't even tell that there was any damage. I will forever bring my vehicles to Stephen's when I need them repaired. read more

The only reason I'm willing to give Stephen's a 2 star review is because the two woman who work the front desk were kind, respectful, and helpful. I brought my car into this dealership to get repaired through Geico and got it back with a couple of scratches on it that weren't there before I brought it in. Apparently one (of the three) scratches of paint was already their prior to dropping my car off. Scott, who I spoke to about this insisted I apologize for accusing him of damaging my car, even though there were two other marks he had no answer for. He also insisted I was wrong about knowing if I had the Simoniz glass coat on my car to which the Geico adjuster later told me the shop just isn't capable of applying this type of glass coat so they were unable to do it. No where upon picking up my car did anyone inform me that they were unable to do this and the only reason I was informed was because I was upset about the new mystery scuffs and paint chips they declined to take responsibility for. If you want your car back in the state it came in, try a different shop. read more

I am very sad to be writing this review, because I had heard very good things about Stephen's. I was in a collision Christmas morning and Stephen's towing came to tow my car. I could not get my keys out of the igintion, but the two tow drivers that came seemed professional and nice, I trusted them. One of them even let me use his cell phone to call my husband when he got on the scene. I was so upset that I had just been in such an awful accident, I never thought about taking anything out of it and was not told to do so. I was handed a business card that said, Stephen's towing, OWNER, so I was very comfortable letting them take my car. The next morning we came back to clean out my car and anything worth any value was GONE. I noticed my ipod nano and charger were missing right away, but my husband said go home and check your pockets before you accuse anyone. Tom cleaned my car wehile I dealt with the rental car man. Once we got home and emptied out the bags from my car, it was apparent, someone had some serious time to go through my car. Some items were in the trunk of my car and underneath alot of other items. My nikon camera, kids portable DVD players and my daughter's teal blue pool bag were all gone. I contacted Stephen's auto body several times about the theft. The first time I called I was told by the owners son Scott, that my car was locked the whole time it was there, 'He had to unlock it to get my registration to call me." The second time I called back, he said he spoke with the tow driver and the driver remembers me standing on the corner holding my ipod!!!!!!!!! That is just absurd. The nano is the tiniest little thing, you could never see it in my hand, and it's a blatant lie. I am outraged by this kind of statement. An owner of a business should at least let customers know they are concerned. I have been treated like a liar. I have called Stephen's a total of 3 times. The 2nd time I spoke to Scott, he said he watched hours of taped footage of my car, and no one touched it. I brought up the point that I know I was towed at 10:13 because I have the tow truck drivers cell phone# incoming call with a time stamp on my husbands cell phone. My car should have arrived at Stephen's within moments of being towed, because the accident was on the same street as Stephen's towing, just 300 feet or so up the road. I have not been invited to watch these tapes myself. Scott also said 100 cars go through his shop a month and he has never had this problem before. My saving grace is that my Nikon camera came from an excellent shop that keeps such good records I have the serial number and filed a report with the Police who are checking pawn shops as I type. I know I will never get my stuff back, but robbing a person you were sopposed to help on Christmas day, is just so disgusting, I can't let it go. Someone knows what happened and in time, the truth will be revealed. read more

I had an amazing experience with Stephen's Autobody and Towing. I was in a rear-end accident that resulted in my front bumper being replaced. Geico suggested I go to Stephen's Autobody as they are a Geico Auto Express shop - meaning the Geico adjuster, repairs, and even rental were all in the same place. Stephen's Autobody completed the job earlier than expected (only 1 week after dropping off my car!) and they even detailed my car at no extra cost. Their team even sent me a separate quote for other work on my car if I was interested (minor paint job). My car was detailed when I picked it up and was probably more clean than when I first purchased my car brand new a few years ago. The two women at the front desk of Stephen's Autobody made the entire experience worthwhile - They're hilarious! read more

This establishment sets the bar very high. I have had auto-body work performed two times at Stephen's Autobody. Both times I was blown away by the quality of their work. The second time around, I appreciated the updates option they offered me. I was kept in the know about the progress with my car and knew ahead of time exactly when it would be ready. Rental car pick up and drop off on site. Opens at 7 and on weekends. These two above are great for busy professionals who work Monday though Friday and hard to take a day off. The repair only took four business days after dropping off. They handled adjustment to the estimates with my insurance company directly. My bumper and taillight look brand new after the repairs. I have to say I was pleasently surprised to pick up my truck and it was washed, vacummed and cleaned in ADDITION to the body work. I had no expected that.
