First off comes the initial interaction here. I walk in to see four people behind the counter, all looking into computer monitors....with noone else in the store I kind of anticipated a hello or something....so as I stand there someone finally looks up and says "Steve you got a customer". Confused, out walks steve from stocking some equipment. I dont expected to be treated like royalty, but what the heck are all these people doing here at the front counter without having a shred of customer service cares... So, as I address the need for some hertz speakers to be installed into my car, Steve and I begin to go over price. Now, Steve is a nice guy, but this stores' methodology of quoting prices is to merely write down prices on a people of paper in pencil and then say " okay it will be about 800" I already knew this to be a decent, mind you decent so I said what the hell and agreed., Once my stereo was installed, by the most arogant and totally incapable of any customer service installer/person I have ever met in my life, I asked it they had made some adjustments to the EQ or anything in my deck to better the sound quality of my new non stock badass speakers. "Of course" the installer said. So, as I was going to thank him he interuppted me to say that he had set all of the EQ settings to zero so it would not sound like s**T like I had set them before. Completly awestricken I first thought, why have an EQ if you are just going to leave the settings to zero? And why is this person not sitting in the back permanently where he can never have contact with humans; furthermore, why is this person employed! As I was rang up I am told the estimate was wrong and it would be another 80 bucks....confused as to why, I was now given a printed explanation of prices....ugg So, Steve tells me the next step is the sub, and the the lame installer guy told him to tell me (mind you installer is standing next to me) that I had lost some bass with the new speakers but they sounded great. So I am thinking huh? why would I lose anything with 800 speakers and amp installed? wouldnt they be all around better than the stock speakers? hmm..... So, I listen to my stereo as I go home....yes the clarity sounds great, but it sounds like shit....no bass at all and just high end ear popping hi's and very little mids. oh, and at full blast I can kinda make out vocals as I drive down the road with the windows down. So when I accessed my amp that is in a very strategic place in my car so as not to be seen. My car has a spot for an amp behind the plaseic walls of the back area....I find the amp to be set as such.....Gain...all the way down...off if you will. Xover...set to hi's. So, I am convinced that these douche bags set my system to sound like crap so I would by a sub and another amp...then set the other speakers to sound good and say "see that made all the differance". Now that I have set my amp properly, my stereo sounds amazing and I will NEVER EVER go back to the King....EVER!! read more

I wasn't looking to spend a ton of money and he still spent plenty of time going over various options and explaining things to me, even though they were pretty busy. I have a '94 Cadillac DeVille and just on a whim decided to upgrade the stock system. Picked this place kind of out of a hat. Wow was I more than impressed. First in their low key sales approach, listening to my needs of wanting basics(fm, aux, iPod). The caddy also has a weird original setup that needs specialized mounting hardware. They found the hoped for right parts and I was on my way. Unfortunately the parts weren't correct and I just couldn't get power to the radio. Returned a few hours later with a hole where the radio should be and worried they would just shrug and say 'good luck'. They did NOT. what followed was an absolutely fantastic display of customer service. I had guys re wiring the harness connector, offering solutions to no power(car fuses) and when that was one of the problems they just handed me a new fuse! Then I had another guy sit with me in the car, troubleshooting the exact right faceplate adapter and then gave me tips on how to best reinstall. Feeling confident I thanked them and went on my way. I went in a while back (several months) to get a new head unit and some speakers. I got all of that at a decent price and had them install it for me while I went to a movie across the street. I was extremely happy when I left. Fast forward another few months, and went in to see if I could get a box built for my 2 10" subs to go in my truck. They had 3 or 4 different people look at my truck, and then quote me $475 to build a box. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? I can order one off Amazon for $90. I wouldve been willing to pay 150 or even 200 to get it done here by these guys, but $475? You can kiss this customer goodbye forever. read more

Its been around 10 years since Ive been in to car audio and boy was I in to It, no joke. I swore to never again after that car got stolen. 10 years of just lurking and always wishing but never pulling that trigger here I am with a great bouns check that I fully deserved and it was time to treat myself. I got off work and searched my phone for local car audio shops and Stereo King popped up which I had heard of in the past. So off I went, I stepped inside and looked around for a bit and was approached by a tall guy who wanted to see if I needed help. I like it already, no one was pushy at all which ive experienced many times in the past. I told him what I wanted ( a double din dvd unit) he gave me options and I made a decision, he set me up with all the needed wiring harnesses and install kits and was very good at helping me find what I needed. Got home, did the install which had a snag or two but thats just how it goes I guess. In the process of install I aquired a MTX amp from a friend and decided I needed a sub to match, went back the next day and the same guy set me up with a sub that matched the box I ordered just right which had some strange dimensions since it was a custom fit box for my Ford Focus SVT. The prices are pretty in line with what youll find on line give or take 5 or so dollars here and there (my $300 deck I found online for $289 but the sub at Stereo King was $5 cheaper than the same website) in any case ability to have a local shop that is willing to stand by what they sell and give advice is something worth the extra dollar or two or 10 or 30 for that matter. Stereo King, Thank you...... In the future when I need something I will choose you guys. Alright, the future came and I chose these guys, I came in looking for a gain controller for my MTX amp and got attitude like You got some shitty amp. Now I know MTX is not top of the line but theres no need to be a snob about it. I just spent almost $1000 in your shop a week ago and this is what I get? The Guy that I initally bought my stuff from was there and in the end tried to help me, which is why my 5 star rating went to a 2 not a 1. But come On guys, really, I was so happy and now this, WTF this is so jacked up, holy hell of a mother fucker I give up! Some of the dudes that work there have attitude, which sucks because I just want to learn and talk to someone thats going to help me have a good set up, this blows now Ive got to find some other shop to outfit my Jeep, gayness. LOL, rating changed once again, went in the other day (out of convenience) looking for advice on a solution to a dimming issue Im having, Actually went in to purchase some wire and connectors to do the big 3. After hashing out some ideas with a very knowledgable employee behind the counter he came to the conclusion that I should start with a battery upgrade which they have in shop but are over rated for my application, not trying to spend $700 on a battery for a system that is only running a 500 watt rms amp, he recommended an optima yellow top which they dont carry. I appreciate the advice and not being tricked in to spending un needed money in their shop. Pretty sure the horrid customer service I had previously was just from some kid just out of high school that has no real on job retail experience and just didnt think the bill of my hat was flat enough or something. Funny, I showed up and saw they had alot of people in the place. As I walked in everyone put their heads down like they didnt see me. I looked around and really didnt see what I came in for was hoping for some help. Few employees busy with customer or 2 but saw 3 that were to busy not wanting to look at me as they may have to help me, lol. I was there for about 15 min. Finally got some help from the manager is what he said. Then everything was great even though I couldnt get it done as my car is to old and they could fix it just not an easy or cheap fix. They really listened to what I wanted and strategized on how to make it happen within my budget. I took my car there to get an ipod jack and new speakers installed. I thought everything was fine, until about 2 weeks after my passenger door completely locked shut. The locking mechanism was dead and my door wouldnt open at all. I took it to honda, they opened things up to find that wires were everywhere, nothing was properly replaced, and it was the poor installation that caused my door and lock to jam and not work. EDIT- After bringing my concerns to stereo king, and after they reviewed all the documents, they decided to refund me wait I paid to have Honda diagnose the problem. Apparently there was just a loose connection of some important wiring that caused my door to jam. read more

Was here last weekend. Came with a friend to get something switched out of his old car to his new car. Right when got there everyone the sat up front acted as if us asking for their help was an issue. Took and hour or so to even get started (didn't seem too busy. As there were 3-4 guys sitting at the front counter). Spent a total of 5 hours there. Where only maybe 2 hours were spent actually working on the car. Spent some time inside looking at products and wasn't amused with the prices. Will not return and I highly advise you not to visit this location. read more

Horrible install service!! We dropped our car and radio off at 2:45 on Saturday and we had pre-paid for the install. They told us there was only one person ahead of us, that they closed at 5:00, and that they'd call us when it was done. They took our phone number. We walked over to the mall in 98 degree weather and when we came back at 4:45, they hadn't even started yet. They said they really close at 6:00 and that I was the second person they told the wrong time too. They suggested we bring the car back another day. We wasted one more hour of our day, but they finally installed the radio. read more

I went on a whim to this place to replace an older head unit that was messing up & streamline things (get rid of the aux cord etc.). I got a nice reconditioned head unit (at their "garage sale") for a good price but after installing it there was no sound & a amp error code. I took it back, they gladly accepted it but didn't have another to replace it with. I understand it was reconditioned and and knew it was a definite possibility it couldn't be replaced, but they had a different model (a little better) they did replace it with but I would have to pay the difference. Which is totally fair in my book. Paid the $40 difference & went to put it in (which they asked me to do In their parking lot to make sure it was okay). Sure enough, same problem. Long story short, there was a wiring problem I payed them to find since I couldn't. It took all of about 45 mins to find the problem & even tough I didn't ask they completely cleaned up all the bad wiring the previous screwed up. These guys know what they're doing and are honest about doing it. I know where I'm going from here on. Thanks guys! read more

Not good experience. I do not recommend these guys to anyone. Especially the one in Clakamas. Be careful taking your car to these guys at this shop. They will give you a qoute then during the install they will find some weird issue with your car which they have plenty of experience. If they have so much experience with your car then why the un-anticipated issues? Be careful of the fast talker non listener Dave guy. Dave tried to sell me all kinds of parts during the install with an upsell well above $500 dollars in speakers. This was my second car install with these guys and the experience was still bad. I thought I would be nice and give them a second change but they proved me wrong again. Do your research and take your car somewhere else. read more

I went to these hacks years ago and swore I never would again and take every opportunity to warn others. Well here I am. I took my car in to get a new stereo and speakers, it was kind of an ugly car but it was mine. The biggest problem I had was that the 2 single tweeter speakers I bought and wanted installed under the dash. The guy installed them on top of my dash in the corners. When I told him that is not what I wanted he told me that is where he thought they should be mounted. I told him to put them where I wanted them. He did and used black sheet rock type screws to to put in the holes they made when mounting...with the heads at an angle out of the dash. I pulled them out and let them know that they needed to fix the holes left behind and I got an estimate for $80.00 to fix them. When I called and talked to someone at the store (the manager I think) he laughed and told me "good luck with that". The only reason I gave them 1 star is because I have to put something and can't leave 0 stars. Decide as you will, but this is my experience with them. read more

Just had a deck and speakers replaced in my old van. The door panels were messed up and the previous owner of the van had "fixed" then with duct tape. No help at the dealership, very little at a conversion van place but these guys made it right when they installed the new speakers! Sounds great, very fair price on both the product and the service. I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 ONLY because they have an awkward system for helping you. I stood around trying to decide if the people there were employees or other customer and it took a long time for someone to ask if I needed some help. Other than that ... golden! read more

Was at the store on Thu. The fix didn't work, and they said to call if it didn't work. Called on Friday and was told that because I didn't buy the product there (duh), it would be $45 to $200. Stopped in last Saturday (10/24) just to get a price quote on new speakers, head unit and amp for my Honda. The guy I was talking to at first was very polite (although could not have been over 18/yrs old) He started showing me some JBL door speakers, I told him I liked the Alpine brand better. So we moved on to Alpine, when I started asking BASIC questions about the differences in speakers (Alpine R vs not) he became very irritated. When I kept pressing it turns out he didn't know the differences. How are you going to sell a product you know nothing about? Anyway... I looked at a couple different head units and front door speakers. I told him I wanted to run an amp to the speakers for the best sound. He said he needed to check with his installer (I have no idea why) but would be right back. 15/min later he came back and said I was looking at $1400.00 total. No break down as to why, such as installation or specific products, nothing. Just some scribbles on a sheet of paper. So again when I pressed how he came up with that total, which seamed astronomical based on the cost of speakers and head units I was looking at. He was quite irritated and started spitting cost of each speaker out at me. Even if I had a pen right then and there I would not have been able to write it all down myself fast enough. In his verbal "quote" he went back to the JBL speakers I had already told him I did not want as well as a JBL amplifier. (Why are they pushing JBL so hard?? kickbacks??) I told him it seemed very odd he took it upon himself to pick out which amp I wanted. I told him from the very beginning I wanted to pick out each ALPINE component (speakers, head unit, amp. ect...) Literally rolling his eyes at me he says "sorry" and walks away. Honestly at this point I thought he was going to walk back to me with a legit quote sheet and walk through each item I wanted as I requested from the start. Instead as I'm waiting I hear him start helping another customer that just walked through the door. In absolute complete disbelief I left the store irritated & upset. I will NEVER step foot in this store again and will let everyone I know aware of my experience. After all word of mouth advertising is the best form of advertising!! I am a member of 2 very large car clubs in the Portland area with significant contacts with this audio stores type customer base. Please be sure I will be letting my fellow members know as well. By the way... I went down the street and spent over $1200 with your direct competitor who did want to help me with great customer service and knowledge of their products! side note - once I got home and totaled the cost of the items it came to $600.00. So in their $1400 "quote" they wanted to charge me $800 to install $600 worth of equipment! BUYERS BEWARE!!!! read more
