Visited Sternewirth Bar while in San Antonio this May, and their Mangonada Frozen Margarita was exactly what I needed in the Texas heat! A special shoutout to the bartender, who was knowledgeable, patient, and helped me find the perfect drink. The outdoor seating was plentiful, making it the perfect spot to relax with a cool drink while enjoying the Night Market at Pearl. A great experience all around!

Such a beautiful venue, especially for the holidays. Loved the lighting, the chill speakeasy vibes, the decor. Service was quick and attentive, even when we switched it up on her and jumped from a table (where we had ordered) to a spot on the couch that had opened up. I wasn't feeling like drinking alcohol, so I ordered a mocktail called the Prohibition Punch and enjoyed it. It was very citrusy/sour, but was refreshing. I'd probably try something else on the menu next time, but still had a great experience overall!

While exploring the neighborhood- and following local recommendations, I stopped by the bar at Hotel Emma. It's a historic spot, originally a brewery back in the 19th century, and you can still see some of the old industrial fixtures they kept as part of the decor. The bar has such a cool ambiance, dim lighting, a cozy vibe, and that feeling like you've stepped back in time. I ordered their signature cocktail, The Three Emmas: a mix of lager beer, rose cordial, amontillado sherry, gin, grapefruit, and lemon. Very unique, slightly smoky, and absolutely delicious. Shoutout to Justin, the bartender who made my drink! It was a little busy inside, so I took it out to their small patio and enjoyed a beautiful evening. Perfect spot for a great cocktail while waiting for your dinner reservation.

First time at Sternwirth 8inside the Emma hotel. The interior is incredibly cool set in the historic building that was the Pearl Brewery with tons of character and a great vibe. The giant pretzel was excellent, the spicy margarita was a standout, and the Lone Star Old Fashioned was smooth and well done. Great spot in the Pearl.

The bar was pretty busy, waited like 10 minutes in line to order our drinks. It was dimly lit with the bar glowing in the background, nice seating. We sat outside to enjoy the cool air. Our bartender was super knowledgeable and friendly, helped my wife find a drink and she throughly enjoyed it! My old fashioned was very good as well, will definitely come back again!

Stopped in for a quick drink and to check out the vibe. Located inside the Emma hotel, this bar makes for a cute date night and luxurious plus if you're staying at this fancy hotel. Reserved loft seating for hotel guests only. Chat GPT gave me this option multiple times to come meet and mingle with people and I can definitely tell why. Very intimate space and although this space is good for small groups it seemingly gets crowded very quickly. The lobby was full when I walked in. Overall staff is very friendly and the margarita is a solid choice. I'll be back!

Probably my favorite cocktail bar I've been to in SA. What we ordered: Aperol Spritz ($16) - (4.5/5 stars) - when you've had aperol spritzes in Europe it's hard to compete but Sternewirth did a pretty dang good job. Hugo Spritz ($17) All things considered I thought the pricing on the drinks wasn't half bad - of course if you like $75+ pours of reserve whiskey they have that too. The service was very good with a lively yet not overwhelming ambiance. I will be back for sure!

The Sternewirth Bar is an upscale bar with an industrial aesthetic tucked inside the Hotel Emma. While some of the preferred seating areas are reserved for hotel guests, there are plenty of seats for those who are just visiting the pearl and would like to have a cocktail. While there, we tried the Sticky Rice and the Thai Me River! Both are not drinks that I'd usually order but both were fantastic and very unique. They also offer complimentary spicy peanuts but I'll admit they were much too spicy for me. The service was great, the ambiance was awesome and the drinks were delicious - I'll be back.

I enjoyed this place. Very upscale bar/lounge. It opened at 3pm on Labor Day. I recommend coming here and hearing the story of the 3 Emmas

Great vibe with good drinks and delicious food. There was a wait for the bar as it is crowded on the weekend but worth the wait.

We always stop here for a drink Pearl when we're in the area! My favorite drink is a spicy margarita with the Tequila Lalo González! We got one drink that we didn't like and sent it back for another one and that round of drinks was on the house (it's was just two of us)! Great service! Last time we went was on a Friday and they had live music!

Sternewirth Bar is hoppin place on a Friday night. A nice respite from the heat outside at the Pearl. We were fortunate to have friends invite us to the Eagle Rare Bourbon tasting. Sternewirth Bar Lead David Young greeted our small group upstairs and provided champagne to cleanse our palettes. Then he guided us to the Oak Room, a private space away from the loudness of the bar for about 14 people. It was David gave us some history of Eagle Rare and started the tasting. Each of the bourbons was accompanied by excellent food pairings. Sorry, but I was so excited by the bourbon that I forgot to take photos of the food. My favorites were the fried qual and the seared lamb, served medium rare. It was interesting to contrast the flavor profile of the bourbons alone and then after the food pairings. For example, the Eagle Rare 17 year had a slight sweet vermouth note before the lamb and after no longer had that, but had smoother flavors. The Double Eagle Very Rare 20 Year was so complex and a great sipper.

So I went to Bar 1919 in Southtown, a tucked-away speakeasy-style bar. I'd heard it could be difficult to find, and that mystery is part of the charm. Once I stepped inside, I was struck by how polished and inviting it felt: low amber lighting, dark wood, intimate seating, and a quiet hum of conversation that made the room feel removed from the rest of the city. The atmosphere was elegant without feeling stiff. The dim light glowed against the bar, and the cozy layout made it easy to settle in. There was something satisfying about searching for the entrance and then emerging into such a carefully designed space. [NAME] took care of me, and the service was warm and attentive. I was there by myself, but I never felt awkward sitting alone. The bartender checked in without hovering and made the experience feel relaxed from beginning to end. He also made me a from-scratch cocktail. [COCKTAIL NAME/INGREDIENTS] The drink was beautifully balanced, with [YOUR WORDS ABOUT THE TASTE/QUALITY OF THE DRINK]. The aroma rose from the glass before the first sip, and the flavors unfolded gradually rather than overwhelming one another. It tasted fresh, deliberate, and carefully prepared. I also had [FOOD], and [YOUR WORDS ABOUT THE FOOD]. The dish arrived [DESCRIBE PRESENTATION OR TEMPERATURE], with [DESCRIBE TEXTURE, AROMA, OR FLAVOR]. The hidden entrance gives it a sense of discovery, while the intimate setting makes it easy to linger. Excellent idea.

The Modernist -- A True Speakeasy Experience in San Antonio…read more If you're in downtown San Antonio, take a break from the River Walk and check out The Modernist. This is a true speakeasy-style lounge that's easy to overlook from the outside--it looks like a regular, unassuming place. But once you step inside, the atmosphere completely changes. The interior is cozy, intimate, and has that hidden-gem feeling you want from a speakeasy. The staff members are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I had the pleasure of having Adan behind the bar, and this guy knows how to make a good drink! As always, I started with my go-to Old Fashioned. I have to say, it was easily one of my top two Old Fashioneds I've ever had. Then I told Adan to surprise me, and he came up with some kind of peanut butter chocolate martini. Let me just say... it was a true pleasure. Rich, smooth, and absolutely delicious. What I really liked about The Modernist is that it feels like a place the locals actually frequent rather than just another tourist spot. I genuinely had a great time here. If you're visiting San Antonio and find yourself downtown, give The Modernist a try. Step away from the River Walk for a little while--you might just discover your new favorite spot.

For her second drink, she told the bartender to surprise her. He gave her a look and asked more than once if she was sure she wanted him to surprise her. Instead of making her an actual cocktail, he poured her what seemed to be a straight, extremely bitter liqueur. The whole interaction felt sarcastic and like he was intentionally messing with her rather than trying to make her something she would enjoy. What bothered me most was the attitude behind it. We weren't being rude, demanding, or causing problems. We were there to have a good time and experience the whole "tell us what you like and we'll make you something" concept. I did call the number listed for the business afterward trying to speak to someone about it. The person who answered said I had the wrong number and didn't know what I was talking about. I got angry during that call and said some things I shouldn't have, and I can admit that. But that doesn't change how disappointing the experience at the bar was. We expected a creative and welcoming experience and instead left feeling like my wife had been mocked. I hope management sees this and addresses it, because the concept of the place is great, but the way we were treated completely ruined it for us
