I enjoyed the coffee and sandwich. Considering the price i'd recommend for sure. Also the music is nice.

Good study spot, varies in busyness but there are definitely quieter times if that's what you prefer. Sandwiches are pretty good too.

Very fine coffee, but I had to wait half an hour for it. Not worth visiting during peak hours.

They cheated me out of my latte...a good portion of my small latte was foam. I paid close to $4 for foam.

Unfortunately it took me until my 4th year at UCSC to discover it, but the vibe is really chill and cozy.

4.5/5 Such a sweet…read moreand special place to gather with friends and play games! I found this place online by searching Board Game cafes and totally didn't expect what we found when we walked in the store in the middle of downtown Hayward. There are so many board games to play, including unique ones like Skyteam. There's also many PCs and Switches available, and lots of tables. The ambiance is pretty kitschy. I think the place used to be a restaurant so there are lots of restaurant tables and chairs which aren't the most stylish or comfy necessarily, and there are lots of little knick knacks like old lamps or drapes. The lighting varies. But there is a sweet elderly couple who were running the place when we arrived, and it evokes a sense of comfy nostalgia to think maybe this is how they like the place or have kept it through many years, even though the times outside have changed. Everything is neat and clean, even if not to modern style. Things like Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer are also provided throughout. There is a bathroom that's likewise well kept at the back of the establishment, but just beware there are a couple spooky motion sensor light hallways to walk down to get there. I heard the food is good but we didn't try it this time. Little snacks and cup ramen, etc are also available for purchase :) $5 per person to stay as long as you like and play whatever you want is a great deal, and it warms my heart to have a space like this exist. Happy to support this sweet family business

My 9 year old nephew was able to play a bunch of different board games with us so we were super happy to have options to include him. I can't wait to come back to play more games.

The flavors were rich and smooth, and the sweetness level was perfect and not overpowering, just really balanced. The salted coffee had this amazing creamy, slightly salty foam that made every sip so good. We also tried the breakfast PÂTÉ CHAUD--both the pork and the spinach--and wow... they were soooo good. The pastry was perfectly flaky and warm, and the fillings were super flavorful. It was the perfect pairing with the coffee. The whole experience was great--great drinks, great food, and a spot we'll definitely be coming back to. Highly recommend if you're looking for amazing Vietnamese coffee and a delicious breakfast bite!

Though located in a small plaza with more than enough parking for its smattering of businesses,…read morePhin Cafe seems to be a decently popular spot that specializes in Vietnamese coffees, matchas, and small plate foods (bahn mi, pâté chaud, and musubis). Their coffee is really good; I particularly like their dine-in-only Phin drip cream-top coffee. Though it is a little pricy, it comes with its own little drip setup, your choice of type of cream, and a little pastry snack. I also like their refreshers, though I would recommend the lower sweetness option, but I wouldn't recommend their matcha. Their food options are also appealing--their báhn mìs are quite good, but their pâté chauds were already sold out at ~12:30 PM, which was a little disappointing. I hope to try more of their food and snack options in the future. I would say that their prices range from being relatively reasonable (particularly for the food) to a little pricy (for some of the drinks). The quality varies, but is overall pretty good. It's also a good spot to study or work, as it has free Wifi and a number of electrical outlets, but it isn't open particularly late. Overall, I would definitely recommend you give this spot a try, particularly if you like good, strong coffee with a snack. The service is friendly and fast, the interior is clean and aesthetically pleasing, and the bathroom is clean (though the paper towel dispenser was empty or broken today).
