Can't believe it's been 7 years since my first review, but I'm still coming to Steve's, with an 08 Mini Cooper S R56 now, which has had plenty of problems, but no job is too big for these guys. He was super patient with some warranty work early on after my transmission went to junk @ 75k miles, fuel pump issues, it's been through the wringer. I've also bought performance parts on my own for them to install when I can't and they are happy to oblige. Steve has also worked a couple small miracles with my turbocharger. I live up in Newhall now, but he's the only Mini guy in the LA area I trust (bad experience at a dealer with a recall in the past). read more

The first tip-off is that they never answer their phone. Ever. I dropped my car off because the brake lights were not working properly. They kept the car a whole week, then called me Friday at 4PM to say it was ready, meaning they had not looked at it all week. I live close by so I drove the car home and the brake lights were not working again. Naturally, they could not see me the next Monday so I waited two weeks, driving without working brake lights. Again, they kept the car all week until Friday at 5PM and fix it again, charging me more. I drove the car 5 minutes home. Again, the brake lights were not working. I dropped the car off on Monday. They call me Friday to come and pick up the car - they did not get a chance to to work on it. Because they NEVER answer their phone, I stopped by and they told me that I would have to wait a month before they could look at the car again because they were very busy. Last week I brought him a Carter A.F.B from a 63 Corvette and a rebuild kit. He quoted me a more than reasonable price. After he opened it up it became obvious the car had not run in 10+ years. Just digging out the solidified plastic like residue should of been 200 just for that alone. He stuck to his price and the 63 Vette has not sounded better since the 60s or 70s . I would give 0 if I could. Read the other 1 star reviews! My husband took my car to this place to change a sensor. We pick it up thinking it's fixed. Check engine light still on, boom car stops running after 3 days. Took it back early morning, claimed they fixed the issue. Not even 20 minutes from driving off the lot car stops working again!! Nothing was fixed I'm sure of it. How did it take you all day to not fix the car the second time around. Honestly after I read the reviews I knew this was going to happen and sure enough it did. $300 dollars down the fucking drain. And I need my car for my son. What could improve? Everything! Too make a very long story short, I had a water and coolant leak. Brought my car to Steve. He suggested a water pump when I arrived, did not jack up to look underneath. I questioned, "what makes you think water pump"? Told me he saw it leaking and reminded me that he was the expert. After replacing, I continued to have the same problem and continued to call and brought in my cat 2x. 1st time, after work, sat there an hour, and didn't leak. Next day, called again and Steve told me it was now a pipe, a plastic that he would need to order from Labrea. I didn't call back the next day since he told me they were already booked, but did the following. I called again and asked if the part came in. I asked why he didn't call me, and told him I would bring my car in the next morning. Working out my transportation the next day, had AAA Tow my car, Steves Auto opens 8am-6pm at and I work at 7am-5p. After work I called an Uber to go pick up my car. No calls all day from Steve, and my calls going to voicemail or fax machine. :( I need my car! Finally got thru. Told guy behind the counter that my Uber wouldn't arrive until 6:05 pm and to wait for me, he said "your car isn't ready." Are you kidding me? Where is Steve? He said not here but he would text him. I said ok and I that I would hold. I did for a few minutes and then he hung up. I took PTO the next day. Paid my neighbor to take me there to the shop, they were still not answering my calls. Steve seemed surprised to see me in line. I asked why my car wasn't ready. He took me to my car, opened the hood, took out my dipstick and showed me goop in my engine. :( Rating should be less than zero. My car repairs are $5k+ already put in $6000 over past 12 mos, including having it painted. Looked and drove great. :( read more

My daughter's 2012 Chevy Cruze was losing coolant. We we're refered to Steve's Auto Clinic by my daughter's boyfriend. Not only did Steve do an excellent job replacing the thermostat and water pump, his charges were very reasonable. A few weeks later one of the hoses failed. Brought my Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT to Steve's Auto Clinic for an overheating issue. Was going to tow to "stealership" but decided to go here since he is right down the street. Besides "stealership" couldn't even look at it until weeks later not to mention they replaced the Water Pump recently within the last 3 months and didn't bother to check the Thermostat to see it it needing to be replaced. I mean you took the pump out couldn't you just check and replace the Thermostat at the same time? In a nutshell, brought it to Steve at 9AM. Got a call at 11AM that it was ready. Replaced Thermostat and done. Cool guy. Explained what he did and very satisfied. He just gained a new customer for my other cars. Seems like they also do classics...Very cool. read more

Throughout the years, Steve and his staff have been the most professional and trustworthy mechanics I've ever done business with. Their prices are most fair and their service has always been top notch. I always like to say, I know I'm not getting up sold on work I don't need because they have more work than any business can want. I needed to get my car fix in order for it to get smog checked. I went on yelp and found Steve. I sent him a voicemail to see if he could fix my car because they were closed on Sundays. He called me right back on Monday and I asked him if he could fix my car even though its not a mini. So very disappointed with this place, I have used them in the past on a few occasions and thought this was my go to. Had a issue with what Steve told me was my Torque converter and he said he would make some time to fix it. Well that was back in early June, he put me off so many times I cant even count. He said it would not get any worse but of course after approximately 3 months or more it finally was undriveable. I drove my wives car to talk to him and explain that it needed to be attended to and he said he would get back to me again for at least the 20th time. Well he didn't and I ended up going somewhere else and having a complete transmission overhaul for $3,000.00, it was NOT the torque converter and I cannot think that if he would have addressed this 4 months ago it would not have cost me so much money. His excuses were there was no room in his shop and/or it was too hot so his mechanics couldn't address my concerns. So mad as he was highly recommended by my friends and for him to ignore me for so long as I paid him so much for previous repairs really pissed me off. I wont ever bring my vehicles to this shop ever again as he does not care. I could have nipped this in the bud about 4 months ago instead it got worse and had to do an complete transmission overhaul. Maybe if he would get rid of the same cars I have seen in his lot for over a year outta there he could have made room for a good customer. Oh yeah when I personally visited him over 2 weeks ago and he said he got my message and he would call me, still waiting. Steve use to be good, I use him for year... after an accedent I had Steve do some needed repairs. When I got my car back it was worse then before I had it fix. when I talk to steve and told him I had a 5k limit and wanted a list of thing to be fix.. when I got my car back.. 2 things were fix and 4 others were worse then they were after taking it to Steve's. Not only that.. but when I came to get the car... that 5k limit was GONE had to pay another 2k to have worse. He did a few small jobs well. Then I hired him to rebuild my 440 engine on my classic car. The first break in period it burned through 2.5 quarts of oil, Then he said the rings need to seat keep driving it. Its smokes like a chimney and doesnt run at its best with a full engine rebuild. He kepts blowing me off so I gave up trying to get him to fix his horrible engine rebuild it runs worse than before I brought it in. Now I found that he literally smashed the header pipe to get the engine back in around the steering bar. I have one cylinder almost closed off completely.. No No No excuses excuses excuses But he will give them to you with a big fat smile and ask about the family!! read more

This review is LONG overdue but here is my experience with Steve: I came to him based off his yelp reviews and I do NOT regret it! He took in my old 2007 328i BMW at the time where it seemed as though everything began to fail it! I think it was one of those cases that make mechanics scratch their head. I asked him to buy me some time because I was a broke college kid at the time, living far away from my family & this was my only way to get around until I wrapped up school & could afford to buy a new one. He said he'd see what he could do & I ended up getting my car towed there one early Wednesday morning, & he told me to give him 2 days to work on it. He had already previously serviced my car with other minor things like light changes, oil changes, etc. so I trusted him. Come Friday morning I go to pick up my car and when I drive away, it shows that my gas tank is empty. I thought this was weird because I specifically remember filling it before it broke down (have had a previous mechanic actually STEAL my gas SMFH). Anyway, I confronted him about it and he told me he thought that was very strange and asked me to go to the gas station and just put $10. I did, and sure enough, everything started leaking out of the bottom! I called him and he rushed over there, had my car towed back to his shop, and I asked if it would be ready by 2 because I had to pick up my cat from surgery. He said he'd do his best. 2pm comes around and my car was not ready, so he personally took me to the vet hospital to pick up my cat from surgery! He had my car ready not too long after that & he even filled up my tank for me! As I drove away, feeling overwhelmed with everything going on, my car started trembling on the freeway so I called him and he said to take it back & asked if it would be okay for him to take it during the weekend, so that he could work on it on his day off. Of course I agreed & I kid you not, as SOON as I pulled up to his shop, my car TURNED OFF! He felt so bad because he had already tried different approaches with my car, he actually had one of his friends give me a ride back home with my kitty, which was 40min away from his shop! This guy really went above and beyond for me this day, when I was having a horribly unlucky day, he really did his best to make it a little better. I have never had a mechanic have this type of relationship with customers & it's not even just with me! All types of people came into his shop that day as my cat and I waited for my car to be serviced, and everyone that came in looking for Steve, appeared to have a really great relationship with him! I can't forget to mention the other workers that were there as well, because all of them were also extremely friendly and accommodating. When I got my car back on Monday it was good to go and lasted me another 6months while I finished school! That car is actually still in use today, just not driven nearly as much. Steve was honest through the entire process, even when he was trying to pinpoint what the actual problem was. My car was a bit expensive to repair for me at the time, but a BMW always is, so given everything that had happened up until that point, he gave me a small discount for all the trouble. He even joked with me and told me he hoped he didn't have to see me again with this car and that I should really look into getting a new one soon. I am so grateful I found his shop, and would not take my cars anywhere else, moving forward. Steve is honest, has years of experience, & fantastic customer service under his belt! We are so blessed to have found this shop. I am very grateful that we found a honest, professional, down to earth guy that knows what he is doing. My son has a mini cooper and it runs great now after the maintenance Steve has done on it. If you need a great mechanic that knows his mini's he's the guy. If you're mechanically challenged (like me) and need a trustful mechanic to fix/mod your MINI (or any other car), you need to make a trip to Steve's shop. The guy has a solid reputation in the community and knows his stuff. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Long Version (for those who like the nitty gritty details): Go early (like 8AM) Saturday mornings to check out all the cool MINIs. Although, if you drive stock like me, you'll feel a little inadequate. The shop is a great alternative if your warranty is up (like me) or you don't want to deal with the dealership. It's a small shop so expect to hang out a bit. Don't be intimidated by the big guy behind the counter (John). He's a big guy but he's quite friendly (once you start talking to him). Steve normally does the test drives (with you) and if it's something minor I've seen him take very little for the service. I mean little. Try $1. For example, I thought I get my hands a bit dirty by changing out my air filter. Unscrewed the screws to the filter housing. Shoved some stuff around (don't ask what it was called, cuz I don't know). Then loosened the intake valve ring only to realize I probably won't be able to put it back on. I gave up after trying to link the ring together for about 15 minutes and drove to Steves. Junior, a mechanic that does a lot of the MINI services, snapped the ring back on in 2 seconds (with a special tool). He asked me if replaced the filter, which I didn't (I did tell you I was mechanically challenged, right?). He offered to swap it out... which from beginning to end, took him... like 2 minutes. Seriously. Steve walked over to see what we were doing, asked what was done and said, "Okay, cool" and walked away. Junior closed the hood and went to fix another MINI. I had to get Steve's attention again to ask how much I owed and he said, "one dollar, for luck". Need I say more? read more
