My dad's car, a 2007 model, broke down last week and was towed by AAA to this shop. They charged a $189 diagnostic fee but it counts towards the overall repair if they do the repair, and they diagnosed the radiator was leaking and needed to be replaced, all good, until they quoted my dad $1,200.00 to replace the radiator. I think that was high so I called another place and they charged less than $400. I don't know if this shop is charging that much because they are AAA recommended, but it's way too expensive in my opinion. And a note for others, when those tow trucks from AAA strongly "suggest" to tow your car to a "AAA recommended" shop like they did to my dad, don't listen to them. Tow to a shop that you know and you have worked with before. And shop around, it's your right. read more

Found Affordable Car Care on Yelp. Called because I heard grinding noise when braking, so knew my brakes were on their way out. John said I could bring my car in during my lunch break and he'd take a quick look. Definitely bad-needed to replace brakes ASAP. I couldn't leave my car for the day, so I came back to work, called and confirmed I could bring it in first thing the next day. John was able to replace my brakes and quoted me fairly and even pointed out resurfacing the rotors (side note-I have a Nissan and told the dealer that the brakes squeaked. Brought it in twice and they said the brakes were fine...). Well, my car doesn't squeak anymore, and they were able to get the job done in the time frame I needed while being incredibly busy. I paid 500 for a diagnostic keep in mind the machine is 130 on amazon and 200 at auto zone and auto zone will let u plug in and read ur codes for free. Well...when I thought great auto mechanics were a thing of the past...John proved me wrong. Came in for a electrical problem that was causing problems with my headlights. John was able to diagnose correctly my issue and get me back on the road. Backstory; I was pulled over 3 days ago by the wonderful LAPD for a headlight out and license plates out. Got luckier than a pig in shit and only got a warning. Which brings me here today....getting the electrical issue fixed. John was very helpful so I replaced all 4 of my brakes on my vehicle for an extremely low and the wait time was very reasonable and I would definitely recommend this place to others. I was really impressed with the service at affordable car care. The price was very fair and the turnaround time was very quick I came in late in the afternoon needing some urgent assistance. I was prepared to wait but John had me put the door in less than 2 hrs. The service was thorough and he didn't try to upcharge me or sell me services I don't need. Sometimes you get lucky when things look the worst. I was on the 405 when my clutch decided to fail. Waited for a tow from AAA wondering where to take my car. When AAA driver came to tow my car, he suggested Affordable Car Repair. I said OK. After talking with John, I decided to have him repair the clutch. The estimate was crazy. Took my car here for a regular service with a 40 point check inspection. John and his team were very helpful in finding all the issues with my vehicle. Needed new spark plugs (car was about 10 years old), struts/shocks, rear brake rotor refacing and the usual oil change and wiper replacement etc. Initially the cost of parts and labor for all these items added up, but John was able to shave the price down to something very similar to what I was quoted which was greatly appreciated. Dropped the car off on Wednesday and picked it up Friday which was convenient as I live within walking distance and work from home. Sometimes tricky to get hold of someone by phone but does call back if you leave a message or when you need an update as to what is going on. read more

Very disappointed with my recent service. Took the car in to fix a "high voltage charge" issue for my Chevy Volt, and after the repair the issue is still unresolved and I'm seeing the same error message. so now, I paid $700 for the "repair" and the long-winded explanation is basically a textbook response and the suggestion is to take it to the dealership. The main reason why we've taken the car to this shop is because we thought we were receiving affordable car care, but I feel the name is misleading. Not very "affordable" in my opinion at $150/hour (seems pretty standard...) especially when they take your money and say it's fixed and yet not willing to either get the job done or at least reduce the bill as a customer courtesy. I meant to write a review for the last repair I had but unfortunately I was very busy and forgot. Sorry about that! The first service I received was for a catalytic converter replacement, excellent turn around time and very affordable price! Though very busy John was very on top of the phones and provided excellent customer service. The cat is working perfectly 30,000 miles later. Great job! Second time around, I accidentally poured too much oil into my engine (my car is older and burns a bit of oil) and could not remove the oil release nut on the bottom on my oil pan. Last oil change, they must of screwed it on too tightly. I had my car towed there and they quickly drained the excess oil. All the while they had a mountain of cars for repairs. Very impressive. It's hard to find an honest and inexpensive mechanic, I've been very fortunate to have found this place. Great job, keep on doing what your doing! Thank you! I've only ever had a good experience when coming here. The first time I came, my car started shaking and died on the freeway. The dealer didn't know what was wrong with it and were going to charge me just to figure out what was wrong. My colleague recommended this place so I brought my car here. John figured out what was wrong before giving me a quote on fixing my car (an exploded spark plug that damaged one of the cylinders). I paid less than what the dealer would have charged my just to open up the car and figure out what was wrong! He was very honest and pleasant to work with. I've been coming here for all my car needs since then. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who wants quality care for their car. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place- and to this day it still burns me that this place tried to cheat me and may be cheating other unsuspecting patrons. I had an issue with my vehicle and found the reviews on Yelp for Affordable Car Care. Thinking that it was a good place due to all the 5-star reviews, I went to get an estimate on my vehicle. The person who helped me (I am positive it was the owner) told me what the issue was and provided me a quote. I was very suspicious and got estimates from 3 other mechanics. In short, what Affordable Car Care told me was completely false! The other 3 mechanics (all different businesses I also found on Yelp with positive reviews) were all consistent in what the issue was and diagnosed it correctly, and it was a much different issue and much cheaper fix! This place was going to RIP ME OFF and is COMPLETELY DISHONEST! Please note that all of the 5 star reviews are from people who only have one or a couple of reviews, so I believe that these are all employees or the owner's friends who manipulated the Yelp system in order to get placed on the Yelp rankings. If you choose to take your car here, make sure you don't let this place fix it or scare you into fixing it, and make sure you at least get another estimate or two from other places. John is honestly one of the best mechanics I could have found... I found him on Yelp a few years ago, and he has taken care of me ever since. He genuinely cares about his customers and their safety. He's honest about the problems at hand and will always let you know if something needs to be done on the spot, or can wait off a month or so... you won't get this kind of service at a large scale dealer or most auto shops for that fact. Words can't even begin to express the gratitude I have for John and his shop. Everyone at this shop is respectful and welcoming, and having been in a precarious situation on a Wednesday night with a rare broken down 80s Diesel Land Rover Defender, with no solution in sight, this shop was a small little godsend. I couldn't for the life of me find a diesel mechanic in the middle of the week on a early evening that was available to take in my truck, let alone troubleshoot it. So I decided to call AAA to find a certified lot to store the vehicle securely. The tow truck driver, Ruben, showed up pretty fast. After I told him I wanted to take the car to a gated lot to store for overnight he suggested Affordable auto care since it was nearby, and had a gate for secure overnight storage. He told me the one AAA had booked for me was not gated, so good looking out on his part. John welcomed me with open arms and was willing to work to try and start the truck with me. He had some ideas as to what it could be so we decided to call it a day and wait till the next day. The following day I showed up to Johns shop early afternoon and he had already gone out of his way to get diesel for the truck, and was ready to try and troubleshoot the car with me. We spent around an hour trying all the ideas we had to try and get the thing started when finally ... it roared to life! This service and repair shop were excellent. They made sure i got my work truck back on the road as soon as possible after a fuel pump replacement and oil and filter change. John was very understanding and expressed clearly what needed to be done. He made sure i got progress updates via telephone and went above and beyond his duty (worked late) to get me squared away. I then took my BMW 740iL in to John as it had a few mechanical and electrical problems that two other mechanics were unable to cure. It came out better than when i bought it.
