We unfortunately noticed our car was leaking from the driver's side, so I started calling different shops in the area hoping to find a mechanic who could help us. The first place I called was Joe's Auto Repair in Northridge, and I'm so glad I did! Joe answered the phone himself and took the time to listen to what was going on. I mentioned that I had photos and a video of the leak, and he told me to send them over so he could take a look. His schedule was already full for the weekend, so he initially offered us his first available appointment on Monday. When I explained that getting there Monday would be difficult because of my work schedule, he said, "Okay, bring it by first thing Saturday at 9 AM and I'll take a look at it." Not only did Joe find the problem, but he stayed well past closing to make sure our car was fixed! He was upfront about the pricing, explained everything clearly, and even gave us helpful pointers for our next maintenance service. We felt like he was genuinely honest, trustworthy, and just an all-around nice guy. Everyone wants a mechanic they can trust, and we're so happy we found Joe and his shop. The customer service was fine. The radiator they replaced is doing good. However, I had also gone in to fix ac issues and now it's back to coming out hot I suspect they did a temporary fix rather than actually fix the issue. They also were trying to convince me my transmission needed replacing and they were saying they would get me the best price...but it was still at least $3,500... I got two different mechanic opinions and they said there was no issue at all it's been over a year and there are no issues with my transmission...so I don't know what that was about... Unfortunately, I couldn't continue going after that. read more

I needed some basic maintenance work on my wife's VW: Spark plugs, transmission flush, tire rotation, etc. Between the fact cars are vastly more reliable than when I first started driving in the 1980s; we mostly lease vehicles (this was the exception); and Valvoline provides battery changes in a virtually drive-through format, I hadn't really needed a local mechanic for decades. Robert was a great find: Not only efficient and polite but the final price for the work was about 20% less than what he had quoted me on the phone. Ok, let me tell you about Joe's Auto Repair. THEY ARE THE BEST. Like, the absolute best. I found them on yelp years ago when my car needed new brakes. Took them to Robert, who fixed them without any problems- in fact, he even fixed a few other things for me as well. So impressed. Recently, my boyfriend's Miata needed some work and I begged him to take it to Robert for the longest time. Robert has been so patient with us and has been working on BF's car off and on for the past week. I find that Joe's Auto charges less than other places. Additionally, they are extremely informative on all things cars. There have been many times when I took my car in, and they took me out to the garage, opened the hood and showed me all the things that my car needed VS just telling me and exaggerating to me like some places. I had very good experiences here over the years. I've found them to be nice, honest, trustworthy and reasonable. I stopped going here several years ago after they did a brake job and the brakes were (IMO) dangerously unresponsive. The car took 2 to 3 times longer to stop than it did before the brake job. Jeff did the brake job again under warranty but the brakes were still not right. When I went back for the 3rd time, Jeff took a test ride with me and insisted that I should downshift my automatic transmission (even on level ground at 30 mph and below) to assist stopping for several weeks until the new pads were seated. He said I should never put the tranny in Drive unless I was on the freeway, and I should only go upto 3rd in city driving, He criticized my driving saying I didn't slow down far enough from the turn and over used my brakes which causes problems with new brakes, and suggested the problem with the brakes was my driving. I later found through the internet that other owners of this car had the same problem, and it went away with OEM brake pads. I hate dealers, and I am of the opinion that aftermarket parts are usually better, but I got factory pads and installed them myself and everything was fine after that. Mistakes happen and I'm OK with that, but what really bugged me is that I drove that car for several years before the brake job and I KNEW what the brakes should feel like. But I felt like Jeff placed more importance on what he already convinced himself was happening than what I was telling him. He wouldn't act on what I said and began to behave like I was criticizing his work. What Jeff doesn't know is that in the 40 years I've been driving, I've owned 18 cars, worked in the service department of 4 different dealership service departments as a service writer and manager, and that I perform a lot of my own car maintenance. I would actually feel comfortable recommending them to a friend based on their honesty and the fact that the majority of work they did for me was great, but I personally can't bring myself to go back to someone who's expertise and experience (and ego?) prevents them from actively listening to a customers explanation of a problem. read more

Jeff and Amy are really great! My car battery died and I would have had to tow my car into their shop (which is only a mile away) since I had no one to jump start me. This is also my first car so I don't know what to do when something goes awry. But Jeff was nice enough to actually come out to ME which saved a lot of trouble and money. He even brought the new battery and changed it right then and there. That's service. He's so so nice. Their prices are very reasonable, they have great communication and got me back on the road asap. They did an amazing job on my 2004 Thunderbird that has been sitting for 11 years it wouldn't go over 20 mph I bought the car from a family friend and they told me that it was at a Ford dealer for two weeks and the Ford dealer could not figure out what was wrong with it. They then took it to a mechanic that they know and he could not figure out what was wrong with it thinking that it was fuel related from sitting. I bought the car a week ago and immediately took it to Joe's auto repair. Within a day they figured out exactly what was wrong with it and the car runs better than the day left the factory I had to tell them the story about the Ford dealer not been able to figure out the problem. My great friend and TRUSTED mechanic for almost 30 yrs decided to go in a different direction and follow a long time dream in building and ground up restoration of muscle cars.. Me having bought a nice used Dodge Dakota It now needed some attention, and while talking via cell with a longtime former motocross racer friend he recommended another former motocross racing buddy Jeff at Joe's Auto Repair.. I called and being told Jeff was on a much needed vacation talked with Robert who listened and determined due to my "list" asked if I could bring it in the next day.. Well next day 8am there I was .. after a few long winded minutes talking to Robert I made an e a s y decision and feeling very comfortable told him a few more of my concerns and fix whatever he see's fit. (Basically an open checkbook) *about Noon Robert called and addressed my concerns and also suggested front brakes and rotors as the truck spent some time in the snow there was corrosion and they would not survive surfacing and a few other fixes he found.. I can say without ANY DOUBT Joe's auto repair passed the test of HONESTY AND INTEGRITY and my "open checkbook" was treated fairly and respectfully. What a relief as after so many years without any mechanic worries I was a tad freaked out about future car repairs. Jeff did call me upon his return to make sure everything went well with my visit and I was happy with the work. I was in a very tricky situation. I live in Austin and had a car in Los Angeles that needed substantial repairs. After almost being ripped off by another mechanic on the west side, a friend recommended Joe's Auto and I am EXTREMELY glad they did. I dropped off the car after hours and over the next three weeks, Jeff helped me (BY PHONE) arrange the necessary repairs. I'll spare you the details of all of the timely, professional, and courteous phone conversations that I had with Jeff, but please understand that (as someone that isn't a car person at all), the attention I received was phenomenal. Not only were the repairs thorough, they were extremely inexpensive. I literally cannot say enough. Jeff doublechecked with me before going ahead with anything (even new wiper blades), and even did a last once-over before I left the lot (spotting a burned-out license plate bulb which they replaced for free). Though I could say more about the quality of service, the inexpensive cost, and the professional manner in which I was treated, the testimony is in the car itself: My 2005 dodge magnum went from 3 years of sitting in a garage to a 3-day, 1700 mile trip back to Texas and did it flawlessly. The only other thing I wish to add was the "Let me know when you make it safely back to Austin" text. A phenomenal company with phenomenal service and a phenomenal experience with Jeff and all the other guys that made small-talk with me while my light bulb was replaced.
