I just transfered into NBVC Point Mugu. I went in here for a smog check that I needed prior to registering my Toyota Sequoia in CA. I didnt want to but as a CA home of record, I was forced to register in CA. My intent was to go to the DMV right nextdoor after the smog. I ver very pleased to find out I could do the out if state registration right here. Sandra was excellent! She provided great customer service and made the process super efficient. Within a few minutes I knew what my fees would be, I jammed home to grab my title for turn in so CA could issue me a CA title (in case i sell it later). After I paid, she said i could come pick up my new plates and tags after 3pm. Well worth the $45 they charge for this service to do it all in one place and not have to sit in that DMV, which I most assuredly would have left there pissed from shitty service those disgruntled DMV employees give. Few days ago ,I took my car to a body shop in Glendale which was recommended by one of my friends. The owner came looked at me and looked at my car for 2 seconds and told me it's gonna coast me about $4000 to fix it . I was so upset and almost about to cry , I contacted another friend of mine and she gave me this body shop's address I went there and and they took care of my car in the best possible way , first of all Steve Sr. Spent so much time explaining to me that what was exactly wrong with my car , and second of all they fixed my car with less than half of whatever the other body shop asked me . This place is horrible. I was working and my girlfriend needed to get a smog done. She took it here and they told her that it failed the test. In order to determine the problem they need to charge her 89.00 to run the diagnostics machine. She paid it and they told her it was the o2 sensor. They wanted to charge her 380.00 on top of the $120 she already paid. A o2 sensor costs $18. Labor is not $360 buddy. She ended up paying the jerk $120 for the emotional check. After I got off work I went to autozone paid 18 for the sensor went to her house and installed it in 10 minutes. He wanted to keep it for thee days. Shady business. Will never recomend. read more

Took in my song to this smog shop because it was basically the only close shop to me at the movement, told me it would be about 20 mins and I'm like ok that's great, so about 10 mins go by and I'm assuming the owner tells me that he can't and won't smog my car because it's missing the EGR valve, and that I changed my engine, and that the sticker on the hood of my car says otherwise, I told him that that hood isn't to my car and that what did the hood have anything to do with it? And the guy kept going in circles on about that he can't do anything for me because the sticker doesn't match up with the book and that its his license is on line blah blah blah, I told him it's a 2.4 engine the same engine that came with it from the factory and even then he still wouldn't smog my car. He says that I need to go to the dealership and get the right sticker before he can touch my car and I find this to be absurd simply because I've taken my car with the same hood to a different smog shop the year before and they never told me anything about the sticker and then you have this guy telling me irrelevant things that supposedly he's the first guy in town to do smogs and shit, I don't care if you're the first or last simply provide me with the services I need or say you won't do it from the beginning and not waste my time! So as I'm leaving he tells me "yeah at least say thank you" like wtf? For what? You didn't even do anything for me or do anything to the car. Like seriously if this is how you're gonna treat customers at least be polite about it and not demand a thanks for literally not doing anything, I'll be taking my car to a different shop this place doesn't seem to reason with their potential customers. 1 it of 5 is what I'm rating the service of this place, STAY CLEAR OF HERE! read more

Referred to Steve's by a friend who had a good experience. I had just as good experience. Steve's was fast, courteous, professional, convenient, and reasonably priced. I wish I remembered names, but the office staff was more than helpful, very friendly and knowledgable. The state of California was giving me a hard time smogging/registering an older car. Steve's was able to fix many issues, and I got my license-plate registration stickers on the spot! Yes, there is a DMV next door, but I'm a very busy person, and I don't mind paying a little extra for the convince. Steve's is also open weekends and past DMV hours. I will definitely use Steve's in the future, and highly recommend them. On a side note, the owner's son is just as nice/helpful as the office crew, and VERY easy on the eyes. lol. read more

So I went to get a check smog today. Everything was fine till I had to sign the papers. It said about $30 dude was trying to charge me $60 so I simply asked him what the charges were and that's when he started getting mad. He supposedly tried explaining telling me there was a sign that "even blind people could see" after all that he continues to give me such horrible customer service, till I had enough and left and to top it all off he does this infront of my baby. I just called spoke with Steve, I was checking on a price for smog, since I saw a coupon for $24.95, I did let him know I have a Honda CRV he said that' an SUV, and $10.00 extra, said it listed like that with DMV on my Car Title. I hung up looked ab my paper work from DMV did not list as a SUV or UV, called him back to honor the price, he said no, at that point he really was not friendly, said would give me off $5.00, I said no wanted the full discount, which he would not honor. Went to get my smog check, this is a Star Certified facility. They were friendly and quick and checked everything as they should. The price was very good and they also offer registration service (with a fee) if you are in a hurry. Enjoyed the fast friendly service and since they are right next to the DMV it makes it easy. I went in for a smog check and failed the connection to OBD 2 system. I was told they could fix it for a high price and they would guarantee I would pass my next test. I used a scan tool myself from an auto parts store and found nothing wrong with the connection. I went back and was told I probably failed because of their system, but then still had to pay for the price of their test. So I had to pay for a retest because their system wasn't working. They didn't even have the courtesy to put the cover back on that the data link connector is behind. I'd rather get a smog check from a homeless person claiming a old flip phone they have is their very reliable scan tool. read more

I went in for a standard smog check and asked why the estimate was $35 when the sign said it was $24.95. In a very rude and condescending manner, Steve said "Go look at the sign. I spent a lot of money on that sign." I had already analyzed the sign and saw nothing other than "$10 more for SUVs, trucks, and vans" and my vehicle does not fall into any of these categories. I told Steve that I'd already read the sign and he angrily said "Plus ten dollars for the certificate. I tell you what, there are a lot of cheap asses in Ventura County." All I did was ask a simple question and Steve went on a tirade. Maybe it's a question he gets asked a lot, but then that means that perhaps he needs to change his sign. Steve could have simply answered my question by telling me that it was $35 because it included the certificate and I would have been satisfied. Instead, he decided to berate me, treat me like an idiot, and call me cheap even though he knows absolutely nothing about me. There are dozens of places that do smog checks in Oxnard; don't go here for yours. This is the worst car service experience I've ever had. DO NOT COME HERE FOR SMOG ! My family has used this auto service shop for almost 40 years and now it's going downhill. They are ripping off people now . He told my mother, who took our 1997 truck to them for smog, that smog test is $70 but he tried to sweeten the deal by saying he'd give a $10 discount for being such loyal customers. He said the reason why the smog test is so high is because his building tax has increased. If anyone goes elsewhere Smog test range from $40-$50!! My mom went ahead and did the test. Unfortunately, it failed and the owner of the shop told us we had to drive the truck at least for 50 more miles at above 65 mph to reset the system due to us changing the battery. He also said once we do that and if the test fails to fix an obd sensor it would cost $700!!! Ridiculous . We got the sensor fixed and prior to coming back we called to make sure it was free to get it re-checked for smog . Steve, the owner, said yes it's free to come back . Brought it back to the shop and it still failed although the test showed no signs of an obd system failure . The truck has less than 100,000 miles on the truck and it barely gets driven . So there's nothing wrong with it!!! Steve then told us we had to drive it again for 50 more miles at above 65 mph . Called again just to make sure we wouldn't get charged again for the test and Steve said no. So we brought the truck back after we drove it 192 miles more just be on the safe side . He hooked it up to the machine and there was no errors , but he decided to say he's going to charge $70 again because it's not free . It's only free if we are getting the car/ truck fixed by them ! Also on the way out the sign in the shop clearly says $39.99 for smog and when we addressed that issue they insisted they just changed the sign . They are crooks ! The owner, Steve, is very condescending towards women and is very rude!! Just read the responses the owner puts on negative reviews on Yelp and you can clearly see how arrogant he is. I just came from Steve's, it was the cheapest Smog Station I could find. I got other quotes and one was as much as $60 here in Ventura. So I actually drove from Ventura to go there. It was nice and convient if you did need to get your check done and get your tags the same day, it's right next to the DMV. It was quick and easy, probably took less than 10 minutes. I would recommend this place because all went well with my smog check. I keep my car in great working condition and would have been surprised if it didn't pass. As far as folks surprised it was more than 24.95. All of the places I called as well as these folks pointed out that the certificate itself would cost more and did state that price. It also did state on the sign that the smog check was 24.95 and the certificate was 8.95 and the E.F.T. 1.80. Since it's a smog check station, I already had the notion that if for some reason it didn't pass I was going to take it to my own mechanic. As far as customer service, well you are at Smog check station and nothing wrong with being blunt and/or sarcastic which is what I think the main dude was doing.
