They were fast and friendly! Very convenient they are open on weekends since I work during the week and don't have time to come on Saturdays. Luckily when I got here there was only one car ahead of me, so my car was finished in about 15 minutes. Plus I got $3 off just for checking in. read more

They also take care of your DMV registration without the hassle of having to go to the DMV. They are the best and most honest people around. I was happy to see that Steve's was open on a Sunday. Service was prompt and courteous. I was very satisfied with the work they performed.

DON'T EVER EVER EVER GO TO THIS SHOP!!!!Went to register my vehicle last year and was told I couldn't until I smogged it, so I did. Fast forward 1 year to 2017 and I am at the DMV trying to register my vehicle and was told I couldn't because it was due for the bi annual smog and I explained I just had it done and showed them the smog cert from last year and was told they should not have performed a smog check because it was not required last year and that I would have to get it smogged again. DON'T LISTEN TO THIS SHOP IF THEY TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED A SMOG DONE. UNLESS IT SAYS IT ON YOUR DMV NOTICE YOU BETTER QUESTION IT!! Smog rules state that unless the car is sold or a out of state transfer you will only need a smog every 2 years. If you have had the same experience here you may want to report it to the DMV. Oh and to the customer service of the place was horrible!!! I had to laugh at the 1 review that said the were very friendly and professional when just about all the other reviews on here state otherwise I doubt all these people are wrong. This is my first doing a review. I called them to ask how much they charge for smog test. He's telling me something and then hang up then after 10 mins I called them again. This guy is so rude, first he told me that I keep calling then he told the price for the test. WTH. read more

WOW - I guess it was Steve that took my call over the phone - he hung up on me before I could even ask a question about the coupon - when I called back to tell him that he hung up on me he said "yeah yeah I got other calls!" So before I could even proceed he asked what kind of car do I have, and when I said truck he tells me "did you even read the coupon??! $10 more!" so I was left with my mouth open and before I can even say :okay thanks" he hung up on me again... I would rather pay more than ever even THINK about taking business to this guy... the rudest person ever. their service is good but the man steve himself is rude and disrespectful of his clients. called today and verified my transaction after paying the fee and getting my car smogged and passed. was doing my renewal online and my smog check certificate was not transmitted so i had to call him. he doesn't speak too well on the phone, he was screaming at me then hung up while i was trying to explain my purpose for calling. totally rude and unacceptable. what a way to treat a fair and square customer and a woman too. where's your manner mr.steve! yes, i am typing in caps! read more

My experience started poorly by a employee that did not know what he was doing. He was new on the staff, so no harm, no foul. Then the owner got involved, at first he seemed like a rather mean fellow. Maybe he just has to deal with alot of people, that think getting your car smogged is a big scam to generate money.(I am one of those ) Anyways, Steve took over, and became personable. He took care of the smog check in good time and at a fair price. His son rang me up, now this is the guy who should run the business. He is all about customer service with a smile. STEVES AUTO SERVICE is one of the BEST shops I've ever been too!! I appreciate this shop for their honesty now a days you can't trust just any mechanic to work on your car they all just want to rip you off ,but Steve has worked on my cars for over 10 years I don't know what I would do if this shop went out of business. The customer service is great they always make me feel like I am at home there is no place like this shop. It is also a ONE STOP SHOP, I can also pay for my registration all at once. I can't believe I've been taking my cars here for 9 years. Everything is all good when you pass. I mean the customer service has never been anything to write home about. They just push you through like a conveyor belt. What this place has going for them is that they are right next to the DMV which equals convenience. But they will try to make it "more convenient" for you by telling you they will save you the hassle and do your registration and get your tags for you too. What they don't tell you is that there will be a $30 extra charge for this that they pad in to your registration fees. I should have stopped coming when they tried to swindle me on that one some years ago. I've never paid for my registration there. I was going to do it today on a Sunday for convenience (since DMV was closed and I have a hard time getting there on the weekdays) but I did not after the poor business practice today. So here is what happened: Yesterday, Saturday, I took the car to Steve's Auto to SMOG. Previously, the nice guy at Airport Smog had ran my car and told my friend who was borrowing my unregistered second car that all I needed was an O2 sensor to pass SMOG. So I got one. Then I let the car sit too long (being unregistered and therefore, not really driveable) and the battery died. So I jump started it and decided to get it registered so I could drive it. My friend insisted I bring it back to his friend at Airport Smog who he told me would not charge me if it did not pass and would tell me what needed to be fixed. I stupidly insisted on taking it to "my guy" instead-Steve's Auto-where I have been taking my cars since 2008 due to convenience. I was too lazy to drive the extra 5 miles to Airport Auto and a creature of habit. Per usual at Steve's the customer service was less than stellar. I had gotten out of my car while it was "in line" and without even speaking with me they just started to roll it in the bay. I jumped up with some "hey, heys" because there were some things in the car I needed to address. Meanwhile a girl came up to me with paperwork and told me to sign here and initial here and here. I asked her what was I signing as I felt rushed and she said I was signing that I was declining a tire pressure check. I thought that was weird that she would tell me to sign what I was declining without having asked me if I was declining! Anyway-fast forward-my car failed smog. Why I asked? It should have passed as it was literally already ran at Airport SMOG where all I needed was to replace the O2 sensor which I had. The mechanic at Steve's asked me what was going on with the car and I told him how I had replaced the O2 Sensor but then let the car sit too long and had to jump the battery. He says, "Oh you have to drive it about 50 miles before the computer resets". When I asked him why he didnt have that conversation with me beforehand he said, "I was not here". He told me to drive it 50 miles and come back the next day. He said his boss would be in and he was confident I could speak to him and he would not charge me again for the retest considering the situation. So I did just that. I drove the car 50 miles and returned today. The owner was rude from the moment I got there. He told me "What do you want" then gestured me in to his bay only to put a hand out to stop me 5 feet from him from coming all the way in (in an area I was allowed to stand in the day before). So he made me have to shout to him what had hapoened with my car and before even letting me really get into it he said, "I have to charge you. I even charge my own family. That is the policy." Then he asked me if I had paperwork and thinking he was softening a bit and that I might get a reprieve, I handed him the "tire pressure" paperwork and he starts pointing that I signed the papers and this is what I agreed to-that I have to pay-no retest. I still don't see where it says that. I told him I had been taking my cars there for years and no one even spoke with me about my car this time before running it and that if he would just retest it I intended to register my car with him (for that extra fee he charges). He responded with "I've been in business since 1980"....which I told him I knew since it's painted on his building... And he reiterated thar he always charges for retest no matter what. I took my paperwork and told him he had lost a customer. He said that was fine. And it's clear he does not mind losing customers by the way he treats them. This was a clear no-brainer for a decent fair-minded business owner to give in a little for the customer but he would not. I will now go to Mo at Airport Smog where I should have gone per my friend's bidding in the first place. I hope you do too. Steve's just has sheistery business practices and they are not there for the customer. You are just a number and a dollar. read more

I came here 2 months ago for a smog check. First of all, the deathly skinny chick in the front office IS A TERRIBLE PERSON! She was rude and acted like she didnt want to be their, anyway car failed. Steve was kind enough to let me know what was wrong with my car and it would cost me $200 to make sure that his suspicion is correct plus possibly another $200 to FIX the problem... WHAT?! Thinking that was my only option i set home to save up $400 to fix my car. This month comes around and i desperately need my car so I take it to Joes Gas and Smog and, oh my, MY CAR PASSES WITH FLYING COLORS!!! I told the mechanic what steve had told me about my car needed and the mechanic was nice enough to take a look at my car, yeah, the problem steve said IS NON EXISTENT!! This is a very good Smog shop. Yes the owner is very moody but the fact of the matter is Ive been going to this place for 20 years and the job they do is excellent. I brought my car here for a smog. I was told by another mechanic that I need to replace my timing chain. Since I was at Steve's I asked for a quote for this service. Instead of just giving me a quote, Junior took the time to explain to me why this service was not necessary and saved me potentially $1,000! Thank you so much for being honest with me and saving me so much money. It is hard to find honest mechanics and being someone who doesn't know a lot about cars, I am so grateful to find someone who is honest and not just trying to earn a buck. read more

I should've read the reviews before going. I had the exact same HORRIBLE experience as the other 1-star reviews. Basically I had a coupon for $24.95, same as the sign posted in front. And when Steve asked for $35, I was a little surprised so I simply asked why? Then he went off, yelling at me and demeaning me of not reading the sign, which, as noted simply shows the $24.95. I told him I was only asking a question and he didn't seem to like that either, screaming "THIS IS NOT A SCHOOL OR CHURCH, YOU DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS!!!" I have never in my life been treated with such little respect for asking a question. I never raised my voice during our "discussion" but he not only yelled the whole time, he walked out on me and refused to take my money even AFTER I agreed to pay the full amount so I could leave. To be fair, the younger employee who took my car, did explain what the extra cost was and was quite friendly, although he wouldn't take my money either and told me I had to pay with Steve. read more

I was referred to this auto repair by a friend of mine who has been a customer of Steve's for the past 10 years. Although I live in The San Fernando valley area! It's about a 45 minute drive for me to Steve's auto shop, but let me tell you...it's worth the drive for me! I have been screwed over so many times by mechanics in the valley charging me left and right for ridiculous repairs I didn't even need. I've been going to Steve's now for the past year for all my repairs, oil changes and smog. The young gentleman who works there did my smog last time and gave me nothing but professional courtesy. I was in and out of there in about 30 minutes. I don't know what happened with these other reviewers writing negative comments but for me and my friend, this place has given us the best service and we trust them To work on our cars. Steve and his son are great people and have always given me the best service. I am thankful I have found this place and it's worth my 45 minute drive to the shop. read more
