This guy did the rear brakes and rotors on my e39 and had a very good price. I was super satisfied at first but then maybe less than a week later I go to put my car in reverse and I hear this terrible scraping noise. I go check and my brake pad clip that just came back from Steve was all bent and fell off and was scraping against my wheel. I go and check the other side and turns out that he used the complete wrong part. It doesn't even fit on my vehicle. While I was down there I checked my rotors and they were both warped. I went to go get the correct brake pad clips and I was gonna put them on myself but I texted him to see if he could do it to make things right. He didn't offer to pay for the cost of the clips that I bought (which he should've but whatever!) but he did offer to put those ones back on. I go to show up and I can hear him in the garage but he won't open up the door. So unless you want your car to be put back together in the cheapest way possible and possibly not even the correct parts (which remember these are BRAKES so this is very dangerous stuff to get wrong) i HIGHLY recommend going somewhere else. read more

My partner's BMW X3 unexpectedly had a dead starter Saturday morning. He looked around for any shops that would either repair his car ASAP during the weekend or early Monday/Tuesday, since we were supposed to leave on a cross-country trip (job relocation) on Wednesday. Most places were either closed or couldn't get to the car until late Tuesday or Wednesday. He texted Steve, who responded instantly and agreed with the diagnosis of a dead starter based on BF's description of the issue. Steve was out of town that weekend and still replied immediately, which really impressed us. The AAA guy managed to get the car started, so we drove it over to Steve's shop to drop it off on Sunday evening around 5pm. The starter had been replaced and the car restored to its mechanical glory by late the next morning, 11am or so. The price was very reasonable and picking it up was a breeze. We were super grateful he'd finished so quickly (and maybe expedited it? he had other cars to work on, too) because our timeline was already tight. Anyway, writing this from Wyoming, and car's been driving/starting normally this entire way. If we were still back in the Portland metro and our car had future issues we'd seek Steve out first. But since we've moved, we can only thank him and recommend to others. read more

I have had very positive experiences with Steve today. I went there to change the spark plugs but he found out it was one of a faulty ignition coil. I did not have the ignition coil he replaced it for me for free. Steve was Humble courteous, polite and very professional. Steve did the oil change service which was not in the scheduled appointment. He is very honest and recommended not to change the spark plugs at this time. This is the first time coming to him but I'll coming again for brake fluid change soon. As a lifetime BMW enthusiast, I have learned to do one or two things by myself, however I am by no stretch a mechanic, so those sorts of things I leave to the professionals. I found Steve Shelton's Bavarian Repair in craigslist, offering a reasonable hourly rate, a no-charge diagnosis service, and a too good to be true sounding ad as far as his experience. He claims to be a BMW Master Tech with 15 years of experience. So I contacted him, expressing how I enjoy doing minor work on my vehicles, but in some cases the professionals such as him, need to be contacted. I told him the issue with my vehicle, that I am coming from Vancouver to see him, so would need to wait for the car since the business he runs is out of his home, and not a real 4-walls with a ceiling type of business; he responded with hostility, stating that 'I don't need to be judged before I even work on your older 1990 525", and expressed how "I don't need your ok to be sent to other BMW owners or for you to watch over my work". I tried to call him, but he picked up the phone, then hung up ! I felt like I was in 8th grade. Unbelievable. This response was completely out of line with what was sent - to say that this person is oversensitive would be a monumental understatement, and I am mystified as to how he has any clientel at all. If anyone has any questions, please contact me directly and I will be happy to reply with the actual email responses so you have a clear understanding of what this guy is all about. I would not recommend this place to take your BMW, especially an older or classic, to him under any circumstances.
