We visited Gio recently, to celebrate my birthday. They are one of my fave Italian spots to go to in west county, since they offer Penne Ala Vodka. Surprisingly though, I didn't get it this time. I decided to change it up and was pleasantly surprised with the items I chose (see pics). Their service was fantastic! The dining room was empty when we first got there but quickly filled up. I visited by chance today as I was searching for a brunch spot. I almost went to a place I have been to before but managed to talk myself in trying somewhere new close by. The interior of the restaurant is bright and welcoming and classy. I enjoyed the greenery and the hedge walls as a back drop and the warm orange umbrellas seen from my seat on the patio. I chose to sit inside but I was put in a corner. While my server was attentive, I felt like he zipped off as soon as he came by or dropped something off so I didn't get that personal touch read about in other comments. I also never got a fresh refill of any drinks and soft drinks are 3.50! I ordered the salmon crostini and tacchino sandwich. And while the ingredients were fresh and plentiful, and it left me wanting more: more toast on the crostini as it was soft and flimsy with the salmon which is also soft and flimsy, wanted more tomato flavor in the tomato goat cheese mousse, wanted more goat cheese spread and fruit compote on the sandwich to offset the density of the turkey. Everything was very one note and a variance in texture. The fries and ranch were excellent. They were hot and crispy and the ranch was addictive. I wouldn't mind giving Gio another chance, maybe at dinner. read more

I was looking for a good location for a birthday lunch. It's just a little out of the way in Chesterfield. Upon entering, this place is definitely a not so well kept secret. The place was hopping on a Monday at lunchtime. Michael was our server during lunch. He is a fantastic server! Very professional, attentive, and he made excellent recommendations. His suggestions probably tacked on a. Extra $30 to our bill. There is a nice list of wine and cocktails. The seasonal drinks were tasty and matched their descriptions. They also have a lunch time Happy Hour! The hummus board is fantastic. Garlicky and so delicious. The eggplant was recommended to us, and this was delightful and could have been a meal by itself. I was actually looking for a few places to send to my daughter and her boyfriend. We hadn't tried it, but had seen some mixed reviews. Suggested they try it. Unfortunately, they reported back that it had a decent vibe, but the food really didn't hit. The pizza crust didn't hold, not crunchy at all, a bit gummy. It seemed also that possibly the sauce on her pasta, had broken. I asked if they tried sending it back or complaining, and neither did. I have visited Gio several times for both brunch and dinner. It is consistently good. They have plenty of parking in a shared lot with other businesses The decor is modern and classy but not pretentious. There is so much natural light streaming in from the big windows. The staff is phenomenal and personable. Every dish I've had has been top-tier and my companions have all enjoyed their choices as well. I love that they offer hot beignets during brunch hours. Met a friend here for dinner before attending an event at the Factory. Evidently many people were doing that because so many diners appeared to be on the same time table which makes it challenging for staff but they accommodated very well. I ordered a salad and the risotto which I had to ask for minor changes to each. The server assured me it was no problem and he was right! Order came out perfectly. The fresh berry salad is fantastic! Just the right combination of berries, cheese, greens. My risotto was good but not the best. Needed to be creamier IMO. My friend said her salad was good. One issue with this place is the noise level. It was so loud in there. If you struggle in a loud environment go early or late to avoid crowds. read more

My friend suggested this place for happy hour on a Friday and it was great. The space inside was spacious, and casually upscale/elegant. It was surprisingly slow when we went from 5-7 on a Friday. Service was friendly and efficient. All the drinks on drink menu are part of happy hour. They had ample seating inside but also had some patio seating as well. Everything on the food happy hour menu is $7. The arancini and whiskey shrimp from happy hour were good and each comes as a serving of 2. We remember this place first as Vito's. Vito's before the name switched to GIO. GIO has been a top choice for us when looking for a place to gather with family and friends whether to celebrate a life event or just an excuse to come together for comfort Italian food. We came here for Sunday brunch to celebrate my aunt's birthday in mid February. Venue and ambiance did not disappoint and provided that warm and welcoming vibe as we entered the restaurant. The complimentary donut holes for the table is a great way to start our dining experience. The brunch menu had a variety of items from omelets, familiar breakfast items, breakfast pizzas, along with sandwiches and salads. There was something available for each of our preferences. I ordered the veggie omelet and my mom ordered the grilled chicken avocado sandwich. Everyone else at our table dug into their food before I could take photos. It appears breakfast pizza was most ordered item at our table. We enjoyed our meals and the portions are decent sized for the prices on the menu. We were all able to take home left overs for our next meal which is a bonus for extra good eats and saving time later preparing future meal. Our server was busy, yet he made sure our whole party was attended to the whole time. He even surprised my aunt with a complimentary birthday dessert of her choice. I was craving Italian and stumbled across this place. I DoorDashed since I had left work late. It was ready and to me pretty quickly which was nice. I ordered the spicy crab linguine and added a small Caesar salad. When I got my food - I was not expecting the huge portion! I also got some complimentary bread so that was exciting since I was unsure and craving some. The Caesar salad was good - came with croutons and shaved Parmesan which always makes this salad better. Had a wonderful lunch a few weeks back with a group of friends. The service was great and the food was delicious. The Prosciutto & Beef Tortellini was fantastic. We decided to try dinner. Unfortunately, wasn't quite the same experience but it is Christmas time and they were very busy with several large groups including ours. Service was slow and dinner wasn't up to the same usual standards. So overall it fell short of our expectations but everyone has an off night now and then. However, the owner replied to my original review within hours which was very much appreciated. The fact that Gio responded and did so so quickly shows that they genuinely care about their customers experience. That isn't always the case with many places these days. I'm sure that when we go back it will be back to the same high standards we experienced on our lunch visit. read more

For Lunch, I had the whiskey shrimp and they were saucy, garlicky, Parmesany. So addictive. Bring me another order right now. For Brunch, have to keep things #stlouispescatarianapproved so lobster benedicts it is. They gave me the hollandaise on the side for Instagram pour-action. Salad was served on plates such that food fell off onto the table every time you used your fork. It was supposed to have cherry tomatoes but they were those cheaper tasteless grape tomatoes instead. I am astonished that it gets good reviews. Not one of our group of eight had a meal they really enjoyed and the server kept changing the bills because they couldn't figure out how to bill separately. read more

I made a reservation for mother's day. We were seated 25 minutes after our reservation time. The manager was apologetic saying they were slammed for mother's day. After being seated, we had to wait another 10 minutes for water because "they had to clean the glasses". What restaurant doesn't have enough drinkware during dinner service? We were told that the soup of the day was one thing and then a completely different soup was given. The waiter said they must have just run out and switched it. Our waiter was extremely kind and offered a free dessert for the soup mix up. We did not get any bread service. The waiter said they were out, but then later came out with a basked of bread. The pasta portions are egregiously large and the taste was mid. The restaurant wasn't terrible, but I would not come here on any holiday. read more

I hadn't been here in ages, and going back reminded me just how much I've missed this place. I'd been eyeing their brunch menu for a while, so my boyfriend and I finally went to check it out--and it did not disappoint. We started with the shrimp appetizer, which was incredibly creamy and bursting with flavor. I ordered the chicken sandwich on focaccia--so delicious--and my boyfriend got the lox sandwich, which was super fresh. We love their nice outdoor patio, and the service was just as great. We were looking for a new place to try to celebrate our anniversary. We came across this establishment, and based on the reviews thought it would be a good place to try. The place itself is nice. Our server (Wayne I think that was his name) was nice, but not good at being a server. Didn't really feel personable or try to connect with us. So we felt the service was mediocre or mid as they say now. We ordered a salad and an appetizer. It took some time, I was expecting to salad to come out first but it was served with the appetizer. It made eating the cold salad and hot appetizer a game of switching forks! The food was not to our liking at ALL who puts carrots and shredded cabbage in spaghetti? Asked for bolognese sauce and the spaghetti was sitting in a puddle of tomato looking water. Meatballs were good. Bread was decent. Would have preferred butter. The chicken picatta entree I had was different from what I have had from other places but it was - ok. I guess Modern Italian is not our thing. We will stick with The Hill! read more

It sounded good on the menu "Roasted Chicken," and I was surprised to receive two beige, over cooked leg quarters and saffron risotto that resembled porridge with no saffron detected. The $18 glass of wine I ordered had very clearly come from a bottle that had been open for quite some time. I specifically ordered my entree with no risotto and when it arrived, the dry and overcooked chicken spedini was swimming in risotto. Don't waste your time or money here. The quinoa butternut squash salad was seriously one of the best salads I've ever had! Such a great variety of super healthy vegetables, grains, & toppings. Loved the dressing as well. The chicken parmesan sandwich was really good as well. Made on their housemade bread, topped with their amazing sweet marinara sauce, & the chicken was very moist. My only slight critique on the sandwich was my chicken was a bit thin & the bread is pretty thick, so I mostly had a bread sandwich. Would've preferred a thicker piece of chicken or thinner piece of bread. Also ordered the red velvet cake for dessert. I would not get this again. The ratio of cake to icing was off balance. Way too much icing for the amount of cake. The icing seemed to be missing sugar & it didn't have the tangy zip that cream cheese icing normally has. The cake was moist but lacking flavor. I will start off by saying the service was great staff was attentive and very nice. The food on the other hand very bland with minimal seasonings. Potatoes over cooked and Brussels sprouts just taste boiled. I had the mustard chicken. The chicken was cooked the right way just no flavor. My wife and I went to Gio's for a Friday night dinner. We sat outside on the east patio. We went early around 5:30 and it wasn't very busy yet. The bartender/waitress was very engaging and gave us good suggestions. For drinks my wife ordered the Lavender French 75 and I ordered Angel's Envy Bourbon. Both were outstanding! The waitress suggested the Whiskey Shrimp. We ordered it along with the Fried Calamari and both were very good. The Quinoa Butternut salad was recommended to us. We ordered it and it was great! We also ordered the Tortellini, and it was excellent too. The patio was great for us to be by ourselves, and we were able to carry on our conversation without noise or interruptions. I have been to Gio's several times but this time was by far the best and we both really enjoyed it. I highly recommend that you give them a try! read more

Review: Good Food & Service, But a Terrible Impression as we left, from a Hostess who referred to herself as "Ellie". I was really looking forward to dining at Gio's with family friends and for the most part, the experience was enjoyable. The food was excellent--flavorful and well-prepared. Our server was attentive, friendly, and he made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. An extremely kind young man. Unfortunately, the experience soured quickly as we were leaving. The hostess, who referred to herself as "Ellie", was shockingly rude and extremely unprofessional. Her tone was condescending, and at one point, she even made an inappropriate comment that left us completely taken aback. A restaurant's first & last impression starts at the door, and sadly, this one was handled terribly. While I would love to return for the food and service, I would seriously reconsider this if Gio finds this employee's tone, words and actions acceptable. A restaurant of this caliber should have staff who reflect the quality of the dining experience--not someone who makes guests feel uncomfortable after their dining experience. read more

Service is ALWAYS fab here. Never had the same server twice and they are always great. The brunch is excellent. Lobster Benedict? Yes. The bread basket full of donut holes for the table? Hell to the yes. I've been here a few times for dinner and have had really great dishes (tortellini) and really bad dishes (mushroom pappardelle, risotto).
