I came to Steve's for a simple DEQ test, but the customer service I received was fantastic, and I'll be coming back the next time I need any real work done. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes with a very friendly rep helping me out. Beyond the great customer service, this is an impressive place! The facility is very clean and organized, and it's easy to see that a significant amount of care and effort goes into keeping it this way. I'm a car guy, and almost wish they'd taken longer so I could look around more. There were a bunch of really cool cars here, so it seems I'm not the only person who's been impressed by Steve's Imports. I have used Steve's Auto before and they did a great job on our BMW and land rovers, but I think they need to review the mechanic that checked out my wife's car in this last inspection. I took it in with an engine light on, came out with $4,500 in repairs "needed". Did not pay that and went and got a second opinion. Took it 2 days later to BMW of Portland they found nothing wrong with the car except the upper flap in the radiator that needed replaced, which Steve's told me needed replaced as well. The only difference is BMW said it was covered under their extended BMW warranty. Steve's never told me about that being covered and BMW saved me over $500. I'm extremely frustrated that I almost paid $4,500 for $0 in "needed" repairs. Imagine that, the BMW dealership found nothing wrong, when dealership repair shops find something wrong all the time! Josh and the team up front are great, I am certainly suspect of the mechanic that checked out our car. Not sure I will ever go back to Steve's at this point. I have been taking my vehicles to Steve's Imports, starting with my VW Westfalia that had been T-boned in an accident in 2019. The repairs were top notch. Bernie communicated clearly and often during the repairs, people could not believe my before and after pictures. In 2023 I started bringing my Mercedes Sprinter for maintenance and repairs. John has taken care of my van, explaining all the services done and described repairs thoroughly. I drive my Sprinter to very remote areas to camp so always have Steve's Imports do a check as I then have confidence my Sprinter is ready to go. A couple of times on the road I have had questions about my Sprinter and I just call into Steve's Imports and John or Josh always answer to my satisfaction. I only had DEQToo inspection here, I did it here last year as well. Very friendly folks at the desk and they waived the $15 charge while being really fast! And also talked me through the process to finish up my registration renewal, something that was not that clear on the letter from DMV!! The way that this was handled in the end was very commendable. I had a phone conversation with the owner of the shop who called me after seeing my review and inquired what a transpired. He was a very grounded, sincere and interested individual that takes pride in his shop and he understood my concerns and did everything in his power to make sure I was taken care of and that the concerns addressed both from a staffing standpoint and from my perspective. I had a number of very expensive repairs on a 2013 Jetta TDI which means diesel. I regret the original purchase as I truly didn't understand all involved with a DPF filter( diesel particulate filter) . These filters clog and fill with ash and eventually wear out or possibly declogging ( process called regeneration) versus replacing, which is very expensive ( 4-5,000) Steve's imports preformed a regeneration that lasted 3 months( this process only works if the filter is not broken or old) I brought it back again when the filter light came back on( not unusual if the DPF is not repairable) Steve's imports suggested it may be the thermostat versus filter. I did look this up on a site and it did verify that could be a cause. This is where my complaint starts. I was never told specifically by the shop that they actually tested the thermostat prior to replacing. Possibly they did but I was never told this. Josh , merely said " we investigated and found out it could be the cause" I was never called back by the shop and confirmed they tested the thermostat and it is bad. Hind site , we should have asked but also they should have taken upon themselves to communicate this. We replaced the thermostat as advised and again 3 months later the engine light came back on. I decided to take it to another shop for an oil change and diagnostic check. The new shop determined the DPF did need to be replaced and most likely not a faulty thermostat. I informed Steve's imports that I had this confirmed at Trafton's on Stark street. Josh stated they were a good reputable shop and that was probably accurate. Josh did not mention that both shops have the same owner. I am not saying Steve's imports was being dishonest but, the fact that they did not mention that and they never called me to notify me that they actually tested the thermostat prior to replacing makes me feel that they are not transparent in their communication and don't communicate enough to the customer. Based on my experience I lost trust in Steve's imports, not because I am accusing of dishonesty but of not communicating enough. It has turned out that I do need to replace this expensive filter but have decided to preform elsewhere. I hope this next experience will turn out better and I will definitely be asking more questions ( with the assist of AI) on my end. Deb R read more

This was my first visit to Steve's Imports. I brought in a well cared for - one owner 2006 Honda Odyssey 130K for a replacement of the rear motor mount. All my interactions were with John - he did a great job of explaining what would be done and how long it would take. I (really) dislike interactions with businesses & employees that can barely answer the phone with their name - much less - do a competent job of working with a customer that's trying to juggle a car repair & work schedule. I can't thank John enough for his excellent communication & customer service. Our repair was completed ahead of schedule, and John called to let us know we could pick the car up early if we wished. With 130K miles, our Odyssey has several issues that will require routine maintenance (water pump, leaking CV boots). I am new to the area so this was my first time at Steve's Imports Collison Center. I brought my Mini Cooper Countryman in for some repairs to my front bumper. I got a call from John and was told there wasn't as much damage as expected so they were able to fix my existing bumper without having to install a new one. When I bought a Smart car three years ago, I never imagined how hard it would be to get a non-dealership mechanic. After literally 13 different mechanics who advertised " imports, we work on everything", I called Steve's. John picked up the phone, said yes to working on smart cars and said they could take me the next day to fix my headlight bulb. Since then, they have been through so much with me and my 2008 smart car, and they never blink an eye or treat me badly They've replaced my transmission, more headlight bulbs then I care to count along with a handful of other normal things. Brought my car in for a mystery issue that would pop up from time to time but wouldn't consistently happen. They quoted me somewhere in the $200 range for a diagnostic, and kept my car for multiple days trying to figure it out. When they couldn't replicate the issue, they gave my car back and waived the fee. This alone caused me to now use them exclusively for all of my needs. It is rare that a shop won't nickel and dime you for everything. Plus, when the issue became more apparent, they were able to fix it quickly and for a reasonable price. Wow. Just. Wow I have been taking my 2003 Eurovan for its yearly physicals always for 19 years. Missed 2021 only. I had always asked HM to fix anything that was broken. So what if they have doughnuts, couldn't care less! Never waited at Steves! Was also at another place twice I don't remember name. Nothing ever broken. First time at Steve's, John had many suggestions, which likely just got worse in the last 2 years , but wow. I thought it ran okay. Acceleration a little slow, maybe a little noisy, but hey it's old. After Steve's Imports got it's hands on it I could not believe how fast it accelerated. Speed bullet, quiet, drove 90 "by accident" was so quiet. Drives like the first day again!
