These days it's not often that you come across a business that so thoroughly impresses you that you feel obligated to leave a review. Well, I had that experience with Stewart's recently. Previously took my car to another shop to get a safety check. Ended up being told that I needed both rear wheel hub assemblies replaced and was quoted $1,500. Definitely was not expecting that since I had no prior issues (shop said there was a "sound" they heard when driving it), and the car, while 11 years old, has less than 30,000 miles. Decided to take it to Stewart to get a second opinion. Called Stewart and he initially said they were booked until Aug, but squeezed me in the first week of July. Took the car in and explained the situation to him. Got a call back in a couple hours saying everything looked fine and he would not recommend changing anything. He only charged me a half hour for the check. Ultimately, I'm happy I found them after all these years of taking my car to the dealership and a couple of other shops (i.e. L.B.) with mixed results. Just moved to Honolulu and did not know anyone who can work on my 2009 Honda Pilot that we shipped here from the mainland. Before leaving the mainland, we replaced the thermostat as it was draining the battery by keeping the engine cooling fan on. Also was experiencing a couple of other electrical problems after the Pilot came off the ship. In less than 90mins, the Stewart team found the new thermostat was not faulty, but one of relays was intermittently failing and leaving the engine cooling fan on, which was drained the battery. He was able to get my radio to work again and one of my dome lights needed a bulb change while another had a bad switch. No more electrical drain on our car. He verified the alternator was charging strong and the battery was holding its charge and strong cranking power. Have to say that I have never taken my car in for service. But recently, Stewart went above and beyond by providing me with insights and his recommendation. I have a 2018 CRV which until this year, was fantastic. Now in 2024, there have been a number of issues, all well past the covered warranty period, including the reason I reached out to Stewart. Pacific Honda says my steering rack is defective and I totally agree but the estimate is $4500 and the part is on national backorder, with no safety recall. Colin from Makiki Auto recommended that I call Stewart for an opinion. Called and he picked up, I explained the situation and he listened and said heʻd check into it and call me back later that day. He got busy and couldnt, but did call the following Monday, basically confirming the backlog even for him, and that it was better for me to order the part through Pacific Honda and have them do the work. I asked around to see where other Honda auto owners brought their vehicle to and time and time again, they said Stewart's. With so many good referrals, I dropped to have my vehicle serviced. That was a bad idea, he has an appointment list out the door because so many people want to have their cars repair at his shop. When I first met Stewart, he was a mellow, soft spoken good fellow. You can just tell he's a good man. He originally came from Honda and his shop is ASE certified. He does all the work the Honda dealer would do for a heck of a discount. Catalytic Shield installation: Stewart installed the Cat Shield on my 2010 Prius. I bought it on Amazon and he put it on - probably took 1 - 1.5 hours and cost less than $150. He etched my VIN into the cat-converter to discourage it from being sold to metal recyclers. He also painted the shield orange to contrast with the underside of the car - the Cat shield won't prevent a theft but hopefully will discourage a would-be thief from trying. He adjusted the shield to make sure there would be nothing rattling/vibrating when I drive. I had this problem with a different product installed at a muffler shop which then had to be removed. I got an appointment for the next day - someone had cancelled - so I lucked out. Stewart is old school, quiet but personable. And Jean (his wife?) was very nice. She even helped me merge into the street after a large truck blocked my view. He specializes in Hondas and Acuras. A few weeks ago I was driving my blue Dodge Grand Caravan down S King street when I all of a sudden heard a loud rattling noise from the back left tire. I sounded like metal scraping on metal so I became quite concerned my wheel was coming off. Per recommendation from a friend I swung by Stewart's Auto Service to see if I could get someone to look at it. It was just 10 minutes before they closed. The nice lady at the front desk said I could get an appointment only two days later but agreed to go get a mechanic to take a quick look at it, just to make sure it was safe to make the 10 minute drive home. Couple of minutes later the mechanic came out and asked me to drive around so he could listen to the rattling noises. He said there were several things that to be broken but also that it might just be a rock stuck between the break pad and rotor. Not wanting to send me home worrying for two days he quickly jacked up the van and took the wheel off. After a quick inspection he found the rock and removed it. Wow, what a relief! For my 2015 Honda Fit, Stewart replaced the rear view mirror. That was the 1st time I sought his help. Later, he replaced the battery when it suddenly died. That was the 2nd time I sought his help. Next, I'm going to request him to replace the serpentine belt, and make a general assessment of what else I should have done for my car. Replacing that serpentine belt will be a major maintenance event, compared to the relatively minor things he did before. But I am confident that Stewart's work will be excellent on major things, because I've already seen the proof that his service is excellent on even the relatively minor things. If you plan to have work done, Stewart's Auto are specialists when it comes to Honda/Accura. But unless it's an emergency, expect about 3 weeks out for an appointment at this time, well worth the wait. Our 2009 Honda Pilot was shipped here from the mainland. We knew we should have changed the timing belt, water pump and all the parts that go with this 100K maintenance. Stewart suggested we change all the oil pump gaskets as well since they were going to be in there working and it would save us on labor long term. We did that, but first my husband checked with our regular mechanic in California for his opinion. Our mechanic concurred and also gave us a ball park on the repair. I know we were afraid to get overcharged by an unknown mechanic in a new state. Well, the final bill was within $100 of what our mainland mechanic would have charged. I brought in my CRV to see if the oil plug threads were stripped as there was oil dripping from plug. I had been using the same independent oil change company since I purchased the car but after my last oil change, I had oil leakage issues. Without getting into details of the company that damaged my oil pan threads, I told Stewart about the problem and scheduled an appointment. Not only did Steward know exactly what to do (repaired threads by installing a time-sert thread repair) he repaired it for about 20% of what it would have cost to replace the oil pan... which I had been quoted by another shop. I have a Honda Fit 2020 that was due for it 30,000 miles service. I didn't want to take it to the dealership which would run my close to $700. So I looked through Yelp and chose Stewart's Auto based on reviews. I am so glad that I did. The cost ended up being closer to $250 due to an unexpected need to input an electronic switch (which I found out afterward is the same price as going to a Toyota dealership) but: - The workmanship was good. - The wait time and promised time were on target. - The experience was as pleasant (if not more so) than going to a dealership. The only negatives compared to a dealership is that there isn't a lot of parking nearby and you may or may not be able to get a ride somewhere (like work) depending on the timing of the visit. Auto Enthusiast (me) vs. Auto Mechanic (Stewart & Company) Ingenious look into the auto mechanic world. Location: Right across from Kwan's Auto Body in Kaka'ako. Service 5/5: I've visited twice and it is indeed true that he will not fix something that does not need fixing. The quality of work is pretty good from what I have experienced, though my "fixes" were really minor. He specializes in Honda and Toyota (with subsidiaries) I believe. But BASIC repairs/maintenance for other cars should be fine in case you were wondering. Stewart also explains things very well and will only make recommendations when necessary. He may even make a recommendation not to change/replace something if it's not necessary. Trust me, I've been there. Parts 5/5: From what I understand, Stewart will call in for Honda genuine parts first before looking for aftermarket (aka: generic) ones. Honda parts are generally pricey, but because auto shops can get a discount on OEM parts, you may be in luck! Pricing & MORE! 3.5/5: Labor is expensive, but I have figured it out my friends! And I am here to tell you exactly what you need to know. This $120+ diagnosis fee some people complain about, is what I refer to as a "fine for being an idiot." Why am I telling you this? Because I was an idiot and I'm willing to admit it. It's basically a fee for people who come in and don't know exactly what is wrong with their car so Stewart and his team need to take their time to evaluate the issue. Which leads me to my next point, come in with an educated guess! If you ask him to replace a part that you know is broken, you're in luck! No diagnosis fee for you. He'll even check it to make sure that that really is what needs fixing. If you're right, there is no charge. If you're WRONG... then you have to pay the idiot fine like I did. So my tip, be smart about it. Heck, if you can find a deal, you might even be able to bring in your own parts and pay him for labor. Overall: I think Stewart is fair and if you were wondering, I am an auto enthusiast which basically means, I like cars and working on them (on the easy stuff, anyway), but I'm not trained or certified to do so. Stewart saves the day again. I drove through a big puddle during a recent rain but drove through a bit too hard because I was in a hurry to get somewhere. Long story short, what usually wouldn't be a big deal for most cars killed the alternator in my 2004 Toyota Camry. I called Stewart the next day when I started getting a battery light and a strange whining noise from the hood that went up with engine RPMs. He said to come by later and they'll take a quick look at it. They did; alternator was basically gone. They were willing to squeeze me in to get it replaced *on the same day*. They knew if the alternator wasn't replaced I'd end up stranded somewhere and in a much worse off situation - it was an "it needs to be replaced *now*' part. They were done within 2 hours of me bringing the car in. Accommodated me to get the car fixed and the bill paid. Without Stewart, I would've had to spend this past weekend without a car and I had some important family events I had to attend to which would've been near impractical without being able to drive around. As usual, Stewart is a lifesaver. Normal wait times *are* long but that's because they are very complete with the work they do. I first stopped at the Kane'ohe Honda dealership, but they needed to keep the car for a day and a half because they were short staffed. Thankful for Yelp. Was recommended to Stewart's by a co-worker. It is located on Kawaiahao Street, almost to Cooke street. There really isn't any street parking but can pull into the garage and check-in. Stewart is a super honest guy who does great work on Honda, Toyota, and Subaru's but I'm sure he can work on almost any car. I've used him and his team to help me diagnose my car or starting, which luckily ended up only being a faulty Costco battery, although I suspected it may have been the starter. They also do Safety Check's, which I recommend an appointment for as he usually only does it in the afternoon after he eats. I've heard great things about how he always calls people with updates and has very reasonable prices, which can can attest too. He's great at not overselling repairs or making people fix things they don't necessarily need. I'm happy he is near my work as it's convenient for me. Highly recommended! read more

Being the Duke is a good thing, but being the Duke of a car place probably isn't. That means your car sucks! Or you're really unlucky. Stewart's has been my go-to place for servicing, repairs, and general well-being. Ever since the first time bringing my car in, I have been a fan. Stewart has low prices, is fast, and is very honest in his work. After bringing my car in yesterday, I just had to write this review. My car battery was very weak and I almost couldn't get my car started after having lunch with my mom. I called Stewart around 3:30 pm and they said they could change it if I bring my car in. I did and Stewart had a look. He tested it and said the battery needed to be replaced. He wiped off the corrosion on the battery and noticed that it was a Honda battery. Stewart said that the battery may still be under warranty and I should contact Honda. He said if the battery was, I could get it replaced for free. I called Honda and they checked their records. The battery had a three year warranty and it was still under warranty being only 2 1/2 years old! I told Stewart thanks and rushed over to Honda where it was replaced for free! What I found awesome was that Stewart could have easily replaced the battery and charge $100 or so and I would have not known any difference. In my experience, mechanics are money-grubbing hustlers that leave a bad taste in your mouth. They see you as a fistful of dollar signs, and they'll reel you in with whatever bogus shenanigans they can peddle to collect as much as they can from you. Come for a basic oil change? Leave with a recommendation to flush your engine, coolant, change your wiper blades, realignment, tire rotation, and heck, buy some new floor mats while you're there. Factoring in my ready-made cynicism, we selected Stewart's based on other glowing Yelp reviews and made an appointment to fix a dinged tail light and side mirror on our Honda Odyssey. Good-bye cynicism; hello alternate universe of honesty and exemplary service. My parts were ordered THAT DAY, with an estimated delivery time of 1:30. Stewart called at 1:25 to tell me they were running 15 minutes late due to a delivery error, so I needn't come in until then. Wait, whaaat? You mean you're not going to leave me sitting around, and you're solving my problem that day, instead of telling me to come back another day? Stewart, I 'heart' you. He took time to ask me questions that I could understand so that he could best get an idea of what was wrong. And although I read that it could take a couple weeks to get an appointment, Stewart fit me in for the following morning. He was concerned that my brakes had already reached the sensors and didn't think it was safe to drive around for another 2 weeks. I arrived at the shop and everyone was friendly, greeted me and explained what would happen. I walked around to Fresh Cafe to wait for my car and do some work. They called once to recommend replacing something else (which I had been recommended before) but I couldn't really afford everything that day so they said to come back in a month or so to do the rest. I love that they took the time to explain exactly what was wrong and what should be replaced and in what time frame understanding that I wasn't miss moneybags. First of all, I rarely drive my car since I really don't have a commute to and from work. Lucky thing I live only 5 minutes away from work. Secondly, I am clueless when it comes to cars and fixing whatever is broken about it. So I've come to trust others blindly when I'm in a bind. Thirdly, I hate getting ripped off. So what is my car woes? A broken air conditioner. Definitely tough to handle in Hawaii's humid weather. So about a year and a half ago I went to Servco Toyota to get a quote to fix my broken A/C. They charged me roughly $90-$100 for a diagnosis and it was not good news at all. I literally took my A/C off life support and allowed it to RIP for the time being. Total estimated wallet damage was going to be $1200. I seriously don't drive enough to make me want to fork out that much hard earned cash. So after some lengthy suffering with no cool breeze on my face, I said enough was enough when I experienced a near-death heatstroke experience while trapped in a car wash with 2 other friends. Sounds a bit like Final Destination to me. Dramatic as it may sound, I felt like I was dying. Anyway, as clueless as I was I needed some serious help and I looked to (of course) Yelp to help me to resurrect my poor old A/C from its passing so that I can be a happy driver once again. With all these great 5 star reviews on here I took a chance and crossed my fingers in hopes that it wouldn't cost more than my initial quote. I had come to terms with what I had to do to obtain true happiness while driving in my car. Hallelujah! There is a mechanic god out there and his name is Stewart. Not only was my A/C fixed, but another problem with one of my belts was fixed as well. Total wallet damage was roughly $900 (about $550 for the A/C and $350 for the belt - parts cost about $235) and $300 less than the original quote I got a over year ago ($650 less just for the A/C). Prices are definitely reasonable and they will try to get the job done without having to unnecessarily charge you an arm and a leg for it. Timing to get the work done was great. I dropped my car off in the morning at about 7:30am and the everything was done before I got off from work at 5pm (about 3pm or so). Mechanics called me prior to getting major work started and explained thoroughly what needed to be done. This definitely gave me the comfort that they knew what they are doing. When I picked up my car, I even had a chance to talk to Stewart about what work was done and he was pretty informative about everything. Great knowledgeable guy who really isn't going to rip you off. Overall, I'm really pleased with the work that Stewart and his crew has done. I'm a much happier driver with that cool breeze on my face and I don't have to deal with that loud rattling noise when I start my car. They seem to know what they are doing and charge a fair price. If there is any work that needs to be done (and hopefully not anytime soon) on my car, I'll definitely have Stewart and his crew take care of it. read more

I went to Stewart's Auto Service due to a recommendation from a co-worker and I'm so glad! I have a 2004 Civic and it has been one thing after another. I previously had a Toyota and Nissan before and never had much problems with either. The previous models I had were manual transmission so I knew when I got my Honda automatic, I would encounter a couple more problems but geez! All the problems I've had didn't have much to do with the transmission. Anyway, I only have a little over 36,000 miles on my car but the oxygen sensor is fried. The Pflueger dealership wanted $605 to repair it and they already charged me $105 for the diagnosis. They offered to discount me to $540 but I didn't feel I should have to pay for something that shouldn't go bad so soon. I went to Stewart and he said that yes the part I need does run about $380 but he'd give me a discount and with labor came out to $440. But he also suggested I call American Honda's customer service and explain that I'd had all my regular maintenance done at the dealership and see if they would discount me the part and labor even if it meant that Stewart would lose my business and I'd have to go back to the dealership to get it fixed. I called and they didn't do it but how nice of him to give me suggestions and alternatives! I'm never buying a Honda again but at least I found a fair and trustworthy mechanic while I have mine. Friendly smiling service with a cherry on top! Can't recommend this place enough. I had my doubts because I've never had a good time at auto repair shops, but this place really is like the glowing reviews on this page. I took my '98 Civic to have front brake service done today (changing boots and brake pads). I had the rear brakes done at another place 2 weeks ago and knew I was overcharged so I hunted around on yelp for a cheaper option for the front. I made an appointment 2 1/2 weeks ago (this isn't the place for emergency repairs as the wait list is over 2 weeks long -- it's a very popular place). They gave a courtesy call the afternoon before my appointment which I think is a nice personal touch for a auto shop. I brought the car in at 730 as suggested and they gave me a call at 815 to give me a quote. All genuine Honda parts for 1/2 the price that I paid at the other repair place for generic parts! I was sure the work would be over $500 (what I paid before), but it was much less! My car was ready for pick up at 11! What smooth easy service. Stewart himself let me know what work they did on the car when I got in and to put a cherry on top of the whipped cream discounted the total $30 dollars less than what he quoted me! I hesitate giving this place another great review only because I am afraid that too many people will end up going here and I will have to wait even longer for an appointment! Alas, a 5-star establishment deserves nothing less than 5-stars. Went in to change the manual transmission fluid on my 2004 Acura RSX-S. Some worthwhile observations: 1. Cheaper than Acura of Honolulu 2. Cheaper than Pflueger Honda 3. They use genuine Honda manual transmission fluid (not motor oil) 4. The clutch pedal no longer squeaked :-) 5. TIme: 2 hours (from drop-off to Pick-up) I was really impressed that Stewart (the owner) took the time to talk to me about my car after everything was finished. He explained some things he thought might need my attention in the future, but did not recommend any needless fixes. You can tell he really cares about cars and what he does. Highly Recommended. On a side note: 6. To whom it may concern: the reason I changed my MTF was because I read on some forums that doing so will help fix the notorious 3rd gear "pop-out" that seems to plague the RSX (and perhaps other cars as well). I found Stewart's through yelp when my car was giving me problems. All the good things people have wrote about this place is pretty on point. I went in for brakes b/c they were screeching a lot, but they said they found nothing wrong and I don't know what they did, but the screeching stopped. So thank you for that even though they said they didn't do anything. Stewart did tell me I needed hoses for my coolant system, but I declined like an idiot and 2 weeks later a hose busted and I had to take my car to Sear's Auto in Ala Moana where I definitely got ripped off. I paid 200 dollars more than what Stewart's quoted me to do the same thing and Stewart's would have used Genuine Toyota parts. I would have waited to take it to Stewart's , but like other posters have said there's a few weeks wait to get an appointment there and I needed my car fixed asap. Now I know, Stewart's is the place to go. --That should be their slogan. read more

oh, I can't recommend Stewart's Auto Service enough. I wish there was 10 stars. It was my first time there and they did everything right. Specifically, they were ready to take my car at the time of my appointment and greeted me like a human being. I dropped my car off at 7:15 AM and they called me at 9AM to tell me my car was ready to pick up at the price we had agreed upon. In addition to oil change, fueled check, etc. they noticed a nail in my tire-they fixed it. They noticed my brake light was out-they fixed it. They noticed my car's safety check was due and they performed it with a minimum charge. The whole experience makes me feel so much better about my aging car because there is a good mechanic to take care of her. read more
