Wonderful bakery. Everything it delicious and fresh. The morning buns are super and the magic cookie a treat with coffee!

Went here for breakfast one morning while I was visiting Appalachian for orientation, and it was recommended highly by multiple current students. It's just a quick walk from the main campus entrance, so that makes it an excellent choice for a quick breakfast stop. When I walked in, I found the atmosphere to be very welcoming and pleasing and I knew that I would be spending a lot of time here in the future. The menu is set up around the top of the walls behind the counters. It's a bit difficult to read at first, but it's not hard to figure out. It took a while for a server to notice that I was ready to order. The girls working that day didn't seem too terribly pleasant, but that's probably because it was very early in the morning. Anyway, I got my usual favorites that you find at most places (just to be safe) -- strawberry banana smoothie and a blueberry muffin. The smoothie took a bit of getting used to, but ended up being excellent. The muffin itself was wonderful. When I walked back to the campus, I began telling everyone that I had been there, and that they themselves should go. If I'm not mistaken, most of the seating is outside. The fact that they have multiple smoothie bases is also a plus. If anyone is in the Boone area, this place is a must for a good breakfast, or a healthy anything else. read more

Stickboy is the Bakery of the High Country!!!! Family atmosphere and excellent pastry and bread. My seasonal favorite is pumpkin rosemary. One of their cakes was featured at a wedding I attended - incredibly tasty, and off-beat artsy presentation. Nice change from the traditional cakes. The Coatneys just purchased Melanies in uptown Boone. A good reason to put that on the list of favs. They really know how to make a good thing better. read more

First of all, stick boy has always been kind of mediocre in my opinion, but lost my business today. Lady at the counter was impolite. My wife (who is a pastry chef) asked why the cinnamon rolls sparsely had any icing and the worker replied rudely while turning her back. We asked for a slice of the Triple chocolate cake and she brought us a piece out and when we sat down to eat it was completely frozen. Sometimes when you have a sweet tooth you make a special trip to get a sweet treat....not at Stickboy moving forward. read more

We love fresh baked goods... Visiting from Charlotte and had the sticky buns w/nuts and raisins, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and kids had cinnamon buns. Took home choc chip brioche loaf (haven't had it yet). My son and I don't like anything too sweet. Everything we ordered had a perfect balance. DELICIOUS! Awesome bakery. I've never had anything that wasn't excellent, and I've been coming for years. Good coffee as well. A few things to not: most people bypass the cake section, but it's some of the best stuff they have. Also, their bread keeps a lot longer if you slice it yourself. You've got to try the sticky buns and magic cookies. Incredible. I'd recommend brown sugar oatmeal and the local sourdough for breads. The mango pound cake is excellent. Whatever you get, you can't go wrong. The only things I've not been a big fan of are the sriracha croissants and the King Cake. I'm pretty sure I've had everything else they offer and it's all been excellent. read more

This place is awesome! This was my first time here and asked the workers what I should get. They suggested the Almond Croissant and Morning Bun. The Almond Croissant was crusty on the outside and gooey in the middle. Delicious! The Morning Bun knocked it out the park. It is cinnamon-ny, flakey orangey goodness. There are tons of delicious treats here depending on your tastes. The cream cheese cinnamon roll was ridiculously tasty! I might have to say that it's quite possibly the best tasting one I've had in my life and my husband is known for his homemade cinnamon rolls in our family. The frosting isn't overly sweet which I appreciate. I felt like I was getting to taste the roll and frosting vs being blasted with a surgery icing. Great bread! The beautiful thing about stick boy is that they supply bread for a LOT of the small restaurants in boone. The only thing they drop the ball on is that a lot of places run out of bread as some orders come late. Also, them being closed on the weekends means that when I go to hatchet coffee on weekends I can't get my go-to avalado toast as they don't have bread, which always breaks my heart. But all in all, super amazing breads and the kitchen is great! read more

Let me start by saying I have loved Stick Boy from the minute I first tried it. I would have recommended this place to anybody in a heartbeat - now, I'm not so sure. I had placed an order for cake samples to be picked up. I am getting married and have been on the hunt to find the best cake baker in town. I had heard good things about Stick Boys cakes so I decided to give them a try. They were on the top of my list for cakes and really just wanted to the tasting to confirm that. You have to pay and place the order within a week of the pickup date. My pickup date rolls around and I had some family things come up. The day and weekend get away from me and I realized on the following Monday that I had completely forgotten to pick up my order. In a panic, I call and explain the situation. I was essentially told that the only way I could get my order would be to place another and pay another $15. I understand essentially it was my fault for not making the pickup time, but I really thought they'd have the decency to honor my order and fulfill it. Needless to say, they have now lost out on several hundred dollars in a cake order from me. Very disappointed with this company. read more

Visited from Florida with our lab. We ended up at the 211 Boone Heights Dr location. We sat outside with our lab, they have a few tables. Over the two days, we had the Hearty Arti Sandwich, The Chick Pea (twice), salad, vegan chili, and broccoli cheddar potato soup. We bought a loaf of sour dough which we ate once we came back home. The wife was asking if we could order more by mail. We also had various deserts from the window. On or second day, we actually drove through a snow shower to reach this place again, that's how much we liked it. This location is about 16 miles and 30 minutes from the Best Western in Banner Elk (Sugar Mountain) but it's worth the drive. read more

I bake bread at home, so have to respect a bakery when I find one in my travels. Stick Boy obviously has the Boone market cornered, as I loved their hot pretzel at Booneshine Brewing Company earlier in the day so much that I made a stop later that afternoon to pick up breakfast for the next morning. Find your favorite option here and go home happy. I can certainly recommend the scones, particularly the sticky bun with nuts and raisins, along with either the spinach cheddar or maple walnut wheat scones. I think I have died and gone to heaven. I used to go here everyday when I lived in Boone. My freshman 15 (or more like 20) came from the delicious cheddar and spinach scones, so sweet sticky and cinnamon buns, fresh french batards, and fresh fruit smoothies. And I haven't even mentioned the locally roasted coffee. They even made my graduation cake, which of course made me never want to graduate and leave Boone and Stick Boy behind. If you are in Boone, you must visit Stick Boy. It's one of the best things about Boone. read more

One of my favorite spots in Boone. Funnily enough, I never went there when I was a student at ASU (probably good though, as I would have gained triple the freshman 15), but now that I am a non-student living in town, I am at Stick Boy at least once a week, sometimes more. Here are my favorite parts: *They serve locally roasted coffee, including my all-time favorite, Bald Guy Brew. *Artisan bread: my favorites are the spinach feta french, honey whole wheat, sweet potato brioche, and the blueberry oatmeal. Really, nothing is bad here. I've never met a bread I didn't like at this bakery. *Baked goods: oh my goodness, I cannot describe how good their muffins, cookies, and scones are. I live for the months when they sell their pumpkin chocolate chip scones. *Friendly and helpful staff: Those who work at Stick Boy never seem to be in a bad mood. They're always willing to give you sample, too, which is awesome. Sign up for their weekly mailing list, and you'll get special offers. Overall, one of my favorite places to eat. When my family comes to visit, the trip isn't complete without coming to get the "indecision special" (one of everything in the case) to get us through the weekend. Though I cannot speak for the restaurant, the bakery section of Stick Boy is one of the best places to grab a bite to eat in Boone. They have fantastic day-fresh bread and and a good selection of baked goods and coffee. This is a much better and comparably priced alternative to Starbucks. The inside of this bakery is quite charming & everything looks delicious. I ordered a sticky bun as well as a magic cookie by suggestion of an employee. Both were good, but not fantastic.
