The sticky buns are by far the best thing on the menu! They are so soft and not dry at all. I didn't finish eat mine until a day later and after hearing it up in the microwave it still tastes delicious. We also ordered a cinnamon roll but it was to doughy and not even cinnamon it tasted like a loaf of bread and not much flavor. The cream cheese cinnamon roll was better but i wouldn't get it again. I love their sourdough bread, cookies and danishes! I used to get a loaf of bread and just eat it right off the loaf! This place makes it easy to shop local for sure! I also stopped almost daily for their coffee when I was in college. Their white chocolate mocha is really good as well as their hot chocolate. They got me through those cold Boone days for sure! All the overwhelmingly positive reviews of Stick Boy led to me putting it on my list as a Boone must do. They were closed Sunday but luckily we were able to go on Monday. I was asked if I needed help by three different employees who all exuded genuine friendliness. Munching on free samples (pound cake and apple pie) while eating all the food with my eyes, I finally chose the magic cookie and the awesome chocolate chip cookie. Each one was about $1.50 and were good-sized. The magic cookie was yummy and definitely a more unique offering, as it contained chocolate chips, pecans, coconut, and marshmallows. I think the marshmallows gave it a shiny gloss. The awesome chocolate chip cookie lived up to its name as it was soft and generously studded with chocolate and was sweet but not overly so. There didn't seem to be much seating either inside or out, but we were on the go anyway. If you want a beverage, don't forget to use the Yelp check-in offer. The cookie I ordered was great. I can't remember the name, but it had coconut and chocolate chips and a few other tasties in it. It was chewy but crispy on the edges. The bread was disappointing though. I tried the white sourdough loaf and the jalapeno cheese loaf. The latter had long whole jalapenos that have been sliced long ways in half, so that at least provided some flavor and something interesting to the bread. But the sourdough tasted like dish water. Or dish washing soap, to be more accurate. I'm not really sure how I know what dishwater tastes like, but it's this. :( too bad. I really wanted to love it. Around since 2001, how have I not been here before, it is a cute, clean, smells like heaven and tastes scrumptious. Smoothie with yogurt, honey, strawberry and peach is so good, weird as my straw was paper, they have already jumped on that. Triple chocolate pound cake is moist and tasty, scones, muffins and cookies fill the case. Sticky buns and cinnamon rolls came home for breakfast in the morning. Lots of fresh baked breads too. Cute spot with counter service. The cashier was very kind. I ordered a chai latte and she recommended the holiday chai which had a pumpkin simple syrup and apple cider in it. It was not your average chai latte but it was pretty good! Our food came fairly quickly, but unfortunately there were not any tables available. We stood and waited, but others were pretty aggressive with snagging tables, even though they ordered after us. One of the employees was very kind and came out to try and assist us since our food came out and we still didn't have a table. We sat at the table by the door and the line of people waiting to order so not ideal, but still a place to sit and eat our food before it got cold! My boyfriend got a ham, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich which was good. It was a pretty big breakfast sandwich! I ordered the Mount Arti which was delicious! Pretty hefty portion, too. We also ordered a sticky bun which was good, but was served cold. It would have been better heated up. However, I hope they might move toward reducing the large amount of plastic they purchase and disseminate. Instead of plastic clamshell containers, they could switch to biodegradable ones. Instead of offering plastic bags, they could offer paper. This business really is a leader in the area in terms of setting the standard of how a well-run business can be, and many of us in Boone would be grateful if they'd be a leader with sustainability, too. read more

Whenever I go up to Boone, I must stop at Stick Boy. Once I'm done drooling over their dessert and pastry display, I always purchase a loaf of their bread to enjoy with cheese (usually brie), oils and vinegars (from Art of Oil, of course), or just by itself (no judgment if you eat the whole loaf in one sitting). Additionally, Stick Boy has really awesome coffee drinks! I recently had their minty latte, and it was super refreshing. It had just the right of mint kick to it without being overbearing. A good place. Having enjoyed the other Stickboy location in Boone, I visited this one on a whim, and my experience was positive. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and my order came out quickly and correctly. There were some tables on the patio, and so I sat out and relaxed for a while with my purchase, basking in the lovely mountain autumn. In a nut, I was pleased, and I think I might drop in another time. My only complaint: no bathroom (or, at least, the only one I saw was labeled "employees only"). While we did not partake of any of the baked goods here, we did get Wifey her daily Frappucino! Happy wifey, happy lifey! Wifey loves her Caramel Frappucino's...and...with the Starbucks in Boone SUPER crowded...we went to Stick Boy to get one. She was VERY happy...why so happy? She said that the Frap was actually BETTER than Starbucks (and, hey, it is cheaper!). I was happy for her. So...while there, I saw they have Steamers...flavored milk...with no coffee (I am NOT a coffee guy). So...I got their Turtle (Chocolate, Caramel and Hazelnut flavorings). While today was not the coldest day...it still hit the spot...and...on a cold day, this would be wonderful! Highly recommended! read more

First of all, stick boy has always been kind of mediocre in my opinion, but lost my business today. Lady at the counter was impolite. My wife (who is a pastry chef) asked why the cinnamon rolls sparsely had any icing and the worker replied rudely while turning her back. We asked for a slice of the Triple chocolate cake and she brought us a piece out and when we sat down to eat it was completely frozen. Sometimes when you have a sweet tooth you make a special trip to get a sweet treat....not at Stickboy moving forward. read more

I want to give 4.37 stars. I used to go here every day, first and foremost, for the coffee. Larry's Beans from Raleigh: Supposedly organic/fair trade, but bottom-line delicious. Always rotating the different blends and you can buy it whole bean by the lb. to take home too. Try the Frank Sumatra, Malabar XXX or Costa Little Ricky...who am I kidding? They're all good! Enough about the coffee (I'm addicted. Can't help but talk java.)...this place is all about the pastries/bread! The sticky buns with cream cheese icing are my favorite. I used to eat 1 every morning before class (a great way to put on 15 lbs.)...this place is directly across the street from the university. So convenient! Try the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies too...really anything here is worth a shot. They are always at work: Even when the place is closed there is usually someone laboring in to the wee small hours of the morn, baking bread, pastries, getting the dough ready...etc. You can walk by the place at 2 a.m. and wave to whomever is in there jamming out to some tunes and kneading that dough! What can I say? I'm easily entertained. Local restaurants use Stick Boy breads and pastries on their menu. Even Bistro Roca out in Blowing Rock picks up about 40 lbs. of special order dough per week to use as the base for their wood-fired pizzas. The only drawbacks to Stick Boy are the atmosphere (with the big windows providing enough natural light, the place is too lit up inside. not cozy.) and the fact that there is practically nowhere to sit, save a few seats outside and about 3 uncomfortable, albeit cute, wooden chairs inside. I assume this is to discourage people from sitting around the shop for 4 hours while spending $1.55 on a single cup of coffee. The only other drawback...they sell Bald Guy Brew packaged, but that certainly isn't reflected in my rating. I LOVE Stick Boy! read more
