If you are ever near Mandeville and need some super tasty BBQ then look no further than Sticks! I've only visited Sticks once, but I was definitely blown away by how tasty everything was. Below are a few highlights from my first visit. MEATS: I tried both the brisket and sausage. Both were super tasty. I didn't eat all the sausage, so I took the rest home to reheat for later. It was even better reheated! The barbecue sauce that they serve for their smoked meats is super tasty! So, if you take leftovers home, be sure to ask for some extra sauce to go. SIDES: I tried two sides on my visit---the potato salad and greens. Both were pretty tasty, but the potato salad was especially out-of-this-world!! APPETIZERS: Yeah, I know it's weird that I'm reporting on appetizers last, but I visited Sticks at lunch the day of an LSU game. So, I ordered a "to go" order of 6 grilled wings for later! Don't you just love grilled or smoked wings? They are so much better than the fried ones that so many restaurants serve. I wish many more restaurants understood that grilled (or smoked) wings are superior! No batter, no frying.... just a really good basting! And, yes, later that night, I ate the hell out the 6 wings I got "to go," dousing them in Sticks' homemade BBQ sauce and Blue Cheese dressing. They were finger-licking good!! We moved to the Northshore four years ago, leaving behind good Texas BBQ. We tried a few places here, but had just given up on finding what we left behind. Today's visit to Sticks on Hwy 22 came pretty close to satisfying that missing taste. I tried the brisket plate and found the brisket to be tender, seasoned just right, and juicy. For sides I tried the mac & cheese and the collards. Other than needing to be a tad warmer, the mac & cheese was excellent with a nice creamy sauce. The collards were a 10, and they were piping hot. My husband had the brisket sandwich with pimento and cheese (melted into Texas toast) and said he would return for a second visit. He especially liked the fried jalapeños. This place feels like it is owned and operated by locals. I visited here two times and was very pleased with the food quality and quantity. The people in the kitchen area seemed to be friendly with each other and the person at the counter taking my order was friendly and provided good customer service. The food has a good smoke flavor. The chicken was moist bone pull out tender. If you have problems chewing, get the chicken here, can't go wrong. The brisket is not Texas brisket but has good flavor that is not over powering. It's more dry than my preference making me rely on one of the two available BBQ sauces. My youngest daughter ordered the Nacho Brisket and we all love her for it because it was so good and tasty. I still have dreams about that nacho brisket. There is a bathroom in the back, just go past the drink station and it will be on the right. It was clean and did not reek of piss or anything. I wouldn't take my food or drink in there but it seemed to be well maintained. Very good value and taste. I've been looking for a good bbq spot on the north shore since I lived out this way and man I'm not sure how I haven't heard about this place sooner. My favorites were the smoked wings, but that brisket was great as well. I will definitely be back to get some on those burnt ends durning the week. Sticks BBQ is as legit as it gets. I'm not talking old school Louisiana legit because there is no such thing. The BBQ scene in LA has only gotten good in the past few years. No, when I say Sticks is legit, I'm talking super legit Texas style brisket that will ruin your life, but in a good way. So why in the world would you decide you want to ruin your life by eating at Sticks? Look, there is the brisket you have had your whole life that is dry and boring. There is also the brisket that was made famous by Aaron Franklin that has slowly made its way to LA and that is a damn good thing. So what makes Sticks' brisket so great? The smoke dude. Haven't you learned anything about BBQ? But really, good BBQ takes time, care, and smoke. Not that fru fru unicorn vape smoke your tight jean wearing padnuh spews, I'm talking wood smoke. Sticks has perfected the time+care+smoke equation and their brisket is the best on the northshore and a high level competitor for best in the city. The brisket is so good that it often sells out by the time your boy finishes volleyball practice and calls in his order. So what do I? I actually order chopped brisket. And I enjoy the hell out of it. Hold up. Wait. Did I just say I actually enjoy chopped brisket? Roger that. If that doesn't convince you their brisket is legit, nothing will. On the occasions where I do get sliced brisket I can almost not leave the parking lot without opening the container and eating a slice. I think I have established that the brisket is top notch. What about everything else? It is awesome. In fact, the potato skins appetizer with pulled pork is phenomenal. The brisket cheese fries are also phenomenal. The wings are also phenomenal. Have I said phenomenal enough? I'm really glad that Sticks has been successful enough to open a second location. It is one of my favorite spots and once you try it, it will be one of yours too. My wife and I were in the mood for brisket, so we split the Big Smokey plate, which comes with three meats, and we just got three helpings of brisket, which came out to 18 oz. Really good, not too much fat and not too lean, and neither one of us could finish. Good fries and Texas toast to go with it, too. There were squeeze bottles with a choice of vinegar-based sauce or regular thick barbecue sauce. Atmosphere was informal and dressed-down but cool and clean. This is a real family operation. First time visiting today! We got the Lil bundle (pulled pork, brisket, Mac and cheese, baked beans) with an extra pound of Pulled Pork. The Texas toast was the least favorite thing of the meal. However, everything else was great. The sides had great flavor and nice portion sizes! The pulled pork and brisket were really good, Smokey flavor, and sauce less (I like that you can add your own sauce or leave just the dry rub seasoning). The baked beans were well seasoned and delicious! The Mac and cheese was flavorful and creamy! We decided to order here instead of Dickie's bbq, and don't regret it. Service was good and friendly. Ambiance was fun. They had small decorations here and there with fun bbq slogans. The aroma of the restaurant was a pleasant smokey. I love Sticks Barbeque I think it's the best barbecue around the sauce is delicious. There's two different sauces, one is vinegar based and one is a sweet sauce. All of the meats are delicious my favorite is the pulled pork second is the brisket, and the ribs never disappoint but my favorite are the sides! So I accidentally ended up at this location. Not knowing my way around Mandeville, I thought I was headed to their other location but wound up here so I went for it. They didn't have the burnt ends on special so I went with the brisket plate and I ordered double beans since the last time at the other location the beans were simply phenomenal. Well, the beans were different. They weren't as thick and meaty and the brisket didn't have the nice thick bark on it that I like, but the meal was tasty so I sat down to enjoy when one of the employees asked me how it was and I said good, then she said as good as the other location and I said honestly no. Here's the part where this visit goes from 3.5 to 5 stars. The employee went and got the owner Brent to come speak to me. I had not complained. The food was better than any other bbq place around, but because there was an inconsistency between the two location and I wasn't as satisfied as I was at the other store, the owner came out and apologized, and thanked me for the constructive feedback. They brought me a hot plate of fries since the beans weren't like I liked them originally and the man simply went out of his way to make sure I had a good experience. Brent is a man that cares about his business, the product he puts out and his customers satisfaction and I really don't think a reasonable soul can ask for more than that. My work selected me to put together a July 4th BBQ party and I immediately knew where I'd be getting the BBQ meat from! Sticks BBQ has never led me astray and yesterday they didn't either. The meat was perfectly smoked, the bark on the brisket was KILLLAAAHHHHh and they opened on the Tuesday just to hand me a box full of deliciousness. Everyone at work asked where I had gotten such finger lickin', drool worthy, nap inducing, drawer droppin meat. DUH GUYS....Sticks. I might have to say that this is the best bbq that I've had on the northshore! I got the chopped brisket place. Moist, smoky, flavorful, great portion size! The brisket chili was meaty and comforting. The Mac and cheese was cheesy and gooey. There's nothing I would change about the meal. We decided to try the wings also. Moist, tender, juicy, HUGE! We tried jalapeño mango and triple pepper pineapple. Even the ranch for the wings was homemade and delicious. Both were perfectly sweet and spicy! My boyfriend got the chopped cheezy which was brisket and macaroni on bun. This sandwich was massive and the perfect comfort meal. Fries were beer battered and seasoned. Service was good! The brisket had great flavor, however it was over cooked. Sauce is really good too. Especially the BBQ buffalo that comes with the wings. The sides were underwhelming. The collard greens were really over cooked. I think the hot holding is on too high or something. They're very salty (like they've been reducing all day) and turn to mush in your mouth. The potato salad on the other hand had no flavor or seasoning whatsoever. The Mac and cheese seems like it comes from a box (think McAlister's deli) with some pepper sprinkled in it. All I have to say is OMG!! My mouth waters every time I talk about Sticks! I think by now I have had everything on the menu. From the fried pickles/jalapenos, skins topped with brisket,pulled pork and ooey gooey mac and cheese, and I cant forget about those greens, whatever you order you can't go wrong! I am very picky about ordering greens anywhere because they're just not cooked right. But every time I go (which is at least 1-2x's a week) I order greens as a side! My mom, who lives in San Diego comes to visit almost every other month and the first place on her list to eat is Sticks! Her go to is the smoked wings! Great BBQ, I've never had anything there that I didn't like. Their brisket is done perfectly, moist and well seasoned. While I know there have been times that they are understaffed, as most restaurants are, their servers are always polite, hardworking and helpful. We have been to this place a few times in the past, no problems quality and food were fine. Not this visit. Chicken wing were very fatty and very poor quality, they did not tasted smoked at all. The chicken enchiladas were terrible, just terrible. Pulled pork terrible, very unappealing to the taste, and fatty as well. Even the ranch dressing was watery. Did not taste like ranch. read more
