First impression if this place - complimentary valet. ALWAYS a winner for me! Especially now that parking is so tedious at many locations; this can truly be a deciding factor in whether or not I dine somewhere! Upon entering the building, I noticed the impressive full bar, live band and open layout of the restaurant - well thought out and executed. I was lucky enough to find one sole seat at the bar, so I sat down. Was very shortly greeted with a menu. I had many questions, and while the bar was busy for brunch, all the barstaff were friendly and answered me patiently and accurately. Their Strawberry Basil agua fresca mimosa is DELICIOUS. Light, refreshing and just the right amount of sweet. The vegetable & farro side dish was the perfect complement - also light and fresh. The dish seemed to be lightly tossed in oil and seasoned with a light salt and rosemary. The sweet potatoes, beets and carrots were the perfect crunchy addition to the grain and the portion size was just right for a small brunch snack. Made reservation for table for two because STIR doesn't permit solo diners to reserve a table -- but that's a whole other issue that deserves far more space than this review allows. I sat at the bar and asked the bartender for an oyster menu. She kept directing me to somewhere in the back of the restaurant where the oysters of the day are posted. First, please speak up and be clear about what is "back there" that you expect me to go find so I can determine which oysters I want. Second, I'm not going to meander through the crowd to search for a list of oysters of the day, and then find my way back to the bar to give you my order. Restaurant management should make it easier for diners to order. I waited 12 minutes for the bartender to even acknowledge me. I had to ask twice for my second glass of wine. The bartender finally went "back there" to find out which oysters are available and to avoid having to listen to her mumble through the list, I just told her to give me a half-dozen of the ones she listed first. Long story short: I'll never go back to STIR. Too much trouble and a waste of my time. And the oysters were not good. read more

Mitch is a horrible manager. Mitch clearly does not care about the well being of his employees or care enough to make sure the patrons of STIR were accommodated. Here is why: Tonight while my friend and I were enjoying our dinner the power at STIR went out. The restaurant lost air conditioning and there was no light. My friend and I stayed a while to see if the power came back on and after waiting for 20 minutes with the power not coming back on, we asked for our checks. Our server went and talked to her manager and came back and told us her manager said she can write down our credit card number which she said she did not feel comfortable doing and neither did we. WHO THE HECK WOULD WRITE DOWN THEIR CREDIT CARD NUMBER AND CVV AND EXPIRATION DATE AND LEAVE IT AT A RESTAURANT? Mitch did not come and talk to any of the tables. They had no way to print out checkS and he told his servers they needed to ask people to write down their credit card numbers. None of the tables around us felt comfortable doing so either. Instead of coming and talking to us, Mitch hid in the kitchen, made his servers talk to the tables, and eventually sat in his booth eating snacks. read more

Stir was cool. I went there for my birthday with family and friends recently. I like the spaciousness of the dining area and the overall feel of the place. Once the world opens up just a bit more, I may go back and experience the bar. So, on to the food. Well, I had been craving raw oysters for some time and that is exactly what I had. I ordered the house oysters which were actually very good (along with a few beers of course). All of my party seemed to like their food as well. I really need to go back to give a better review. OK, it was our first trip to Stir, and we loved it. if there were six stars, they would get it. It was our anniversary, and we wanted to go someplace we had never been before. I believe our server was Aaron, and he was amazing. Attentive, and just a pleasure to talk to. I have the filet and goat cheese ravioli. The ravioli were over pesto and I have never been a fan of pesto, but I really loved their take on it. The goat cheese was really good but the main part of my meal was that filet. Perfectly cooked to medium, properly seasoned, and melted in your mouth. I LOVE going to a restaurant where there is no need to add salt or pepper to the food because the chef knows what he is doing. For an appetizer, we both had the crab bisque, and it was the best I have ever eaten. At first, I thought the sound level was a little higher than I was used to, but after a few minutes, I realized it was the best part. The tables were high tops, but the seating was very comfortable; I really did not expect that. The cost was what I expected, no surprises. My friend and I went for brunch today. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and the tables are spaced out, so it feels very open and you're not on top of each other while dining. Our server was great and the manager was also wonderful when he stopped by our table to make sure we were enjoying everything. The food was delicious and very satisfying, accompanied with great mimosas. We did not feel rushed at all while ordering, eating, or catching up talking after the meal. I'm not exaggerating when I say the chicken piccata is one of the best meals I've had! The tillamook burger my husband got was also fantastic. Tried this place out for the first time during lunch. Outside seating was nice but loud. Lots of big trucks making deliveries on the road right next to restaurant. Anyway our waiter Andrea was awesome! He knew the menu well & had great suggestions. I don't typically eat a lot of seafood but decided to try the Mahi-mahi Tacos since Andre recommended them. They were soooooo good. Ton of flavor & I couldn't tell it was a fish entree. Lots of interesting cocktails on the menu but only could try one-the Sangria. It's was fabulous. Had moved just a few blocks away a few months ago and was looking forward to trying this place. Came in on a Friday night at 6 pm. Busy but had no wait to get a table. Were seated by a hostess outside at a high top table with people sitting near us. No one ever came. Waited 20-25 minutes. Multiple servers walked by, no acknowledgment, no water, nothing. Ever. Saw people get water, drinks close enough to us during that whole time. Walked out and next door to Capital Grille and had a much better experience with fantastic service. My dinner this evening was perfect. The restaurant was so clean and the ambience relax yet upscale. The staff was awesome from the server to the cook. Ask for Scott- he goes above and beyond and is incredibly friendly but doesn't hover. The food was superb. Each bite was delicious but you've got to try the fried oyster dish. Wow! Husbae and I visited for our weekly date night this past Tuesday. By the time we got in we gad just missed happy hour which included tacos, sliders, and oyster for under $10. We started with drinks since we were fascinated by the artisanal ice: I got the Whiskey Bramble and he got the Mountain Mule. My mountain mule cup was definitely a sight and was very cold to the touch (see attached photo for more). It was very ice heavy but still great. The price of $13 seemed reasonable for the North Hills Community. We also got one of the ceviches (the Peruvian I think) and it was decent. It came with plantain chips and dried corn nuts (that looked like garlic). The fish was overcooked and did not taste infused with lime juice. It was also quite tough. I have a high bar for Ceviche so I wasn't too impressed. The Cortez off Glenwood Ave is hard to beat in this area‍. While we waited for our food, we asked the server about the ice and he was able to give us a demonstration of how they create spherical ice for some of their cocktails! For meals he had the steak frites and I had the filet and crab stuffed ravioli (pictured). The Ravioli was meh and the filet was a great medium, but lacked flavor. Husbae's fries were bomb and his steak frites was good (he wasn't a big fan). I think this place gets great reviews for the vibe, location, service, and interior design. However, underneath all that this food tasted like a regular Fridays' Restaurant. To be competitive (cc//Yard House, Cowfish) with the food AND ambiance on this side of North Hills this restaurant will need to step up the food. read more

We wanted to try a new restaurant so decided to check out Stir. We didn't have a reservation so had a 30 minute wait. Very busy place for a Sunday. The service was so slow out the gate. It took our waitress a long time to greet our table. We immediately ordered two margaritas and oysters for appetizers. We waited forever for the drinks and the food. We could see the bar clearly and pretty much could see when our drinks were ready. One Margarita was made to the top.of the glass, the other drink was halfway. Same exact drinks. We pointed this out to the waitress and she made a joke about how we should pour from the full drink to make the servings equal. The drinks were 14.00 each and to be fair they taste good but the serving should have been the same.or stleast close. Two runners finally came with our appetizers. We had finished our apps but had not placed an order because our waitress went missing in action. We had to Flag her down to place our order for entrees. We order and ask for another round of drinks. We wait yet again. This time we get no lime at all and both glasses are half full. We are watching the bartender this whole time and he is all over the place with drinks. Some at the brim some half full some 3/4.full. So we point out other tables with drinks similar in size to ours because we want her to note the different. I said also where is the lime and the eest.of the salt that was on the first drinks. She had no answer for that so she said I will have them remake it. Two minutes later she comes back with the same drinks and says the manager said these drinks are not about to get any bigger. I GUESS we also wasn't about to get any lime or salt either. So we said keep.it. We don't want it. She all but begged us to take the drinks. We said no. She said the manger would.come over. The manager who we also saw walking around never came over to the table. She was too chicken S**t to face us and INSTEAD left that poor server to deal with it. The server was slow, but the drinks were not her fault. That was the very inconsistent bartender. The food was okay. Our bill was $120 . I have had much better oysters at Shuckers for example but they were okay. My shrimp and grits were good and my husband had the salmon which was tender and flavorful. However we will not ever go back and I will share my experience with our circle of influence. Wayyyyy too many other choices to dine and drink in Raleigh. Way too many!!!!! The location of this restaurant is wonderful. It's ambience is very nice as well. The food is awesome but the drinks are a little pricey. The complimentary appetizer was just ok. My fruit looked like they were turning slightly brown. I enjoyed the chicken and waffles which were cooked perfectly. The potatoes were ok. My husband's shrimp and grits were delightful. After looking through the good reviews. I decided to give STIR a try for dinner. And it was a let down. First our waitress was not that great. Then the food. I ordered: Spicy Chicken Samosa - it has a sour taste to it. I didn't like it. Fish Taco - It was ok. Salmon Cake - Didn't care for them Grilled Salmon - The grilled salmon was too charred for me. I didn't finish the dish. I do like the decor/atmosphere but I don't think I'll give STIR another shot. read more

Drinks are alright for the price - only downside would be the service time - the service was great and the servers were awesome but the service timing was off causing the wait in between the times the servers were able to touch the tables to be a bit longer than one would expect. My wife's scallops were practical joke salty and overcooked. We suspect it was a cover up for them being old and fishy. I don't know if it was because we were at the end of a seafood delivery cycle or what, but honestly, if that's the case just take it off the menu for the night. I ordered the steak and goat cheese ravioli. The steak was the worst thing on the plate, I guess I can chalk that up to a chance bad cut. The ravioli and goat cheese were really good and you could tell they were home made. I agree with someone else who reviewed this dish on OpenTable... not worth $33. But hey, it is North Hills. The drinks were really good and poured by some talented bartenders. The crystal clear ice takes them to another level (secretly why I came). At the end of the day good old gin and house made tonic was my favorite. Basically we were reminded why we don't go to these places often. The food is ultimately a let down. My husband and I decided to check out STIR because it just opened and I was intrigued by the Instagram photos and stories I had seen local food bloggers post. I would recommend reservations as it was poppin on a Tuesday. I was able to secure a reservation the day of so not much advance notice for a weekday is necessary. Because it just opened, there were definitely some kinks that need to be worked out. No one spoke to us for the first 15 minutes we were seated so I had to nudge the hostess to send our waiter over. It was admittedly busy though. I of course had to get one of their ice cubes and that was a fun little show although I will note the ice melts a little faster than normal. I don't typically order alcohol so I had the strawberry basil agua fresca and that was refreshing. We started off with an order of the crab bisque - this was not my favorite - it had a little too much olive oil garnish and it was very cream forward - I felt like it needed a little extra salt or sherry. For dinner I had the filet and crab ravioli. The quality of the meat was notably lower than I would have expected for a restaurant at this level. My medium well was more like medium rare so I ate the edges and gave my husband the middle. The crab ravioli was very good. The pesto was not my personal favorite (I did not like the grapefruit element it felt off) that being said it did still seem like it was executed well. The root veg were a little tough and could have been cooked a touch longer. My husband ordered the tuna burger. He said it was over salted and it was ground tuna - I think he was expecting a tuna steak when he ordered it. What's a meal without dessert? I ordered both and they were good proportions. The candy bar dessert left much to be desired based on appearances. The taste was pretty good but it was really not appealing and it didn't read candy bar to me. The banana cheesecake felt like a double portion to me so I took half home but the flavor was on point. Overall I think I would go back with friends but maybe not as a date. I think some of the minor issues will be fixed as they get more time under their belt. The ambiance is very cool so it's a fun place to be after a long day at work! read more

So, I went yesterday for a friend's birthday. It was a large party so we made a reservation WELL IN ADVANCE, but it took them over and hour to seat us due to double booking. This was even more frustrating because the brunch menu ends at 230. The manager was there and he promised that they would keep brunch going to accommodate our party. He also comped us our mimosas at the table which was nice, but one of the highlights of this place is that mimosas only cost $1. Finally get seated, order food and it was lackluster to say the least. See the pic of the avocado toast presentation with 5 breakfast potatoes. I had the country breakfast. Eggs were cold and congealed and the side of grits was soupy and salty. Those who order the shrimp and grits complained about the watery texture as well. One person ordered the crab/shrimp Benedict and it was so DRY she sent it back. Again the manager tools steps to make it right by bringing us replacements. I mean, I would go back solely for the mimosa deal, but I would eat somewhere else first. read more

I ordered the Vegan Poke Bowl but was served the Tuna Poke Bowl. We thought it was tomatoes. I tasted it and asked for a to go box as I started to feel sick. I haven't eaten meat since 2017 when I went vegan and am currently a lacto-ovo vegetarian. Barely made it home before it all came up. Horrible experience. Just glad I didn't puke in my friends car.
