I have heard so many good things about STIR but I must admit I wasn't all that impressed. The vibe of the location is wonderful that part I can confirm but the food did not impress me. I ordered a mimosa which is ok, nothing special about it. Now to my food....I ordered chicken and waffles with breakfast potatoes. I was not impressed. The chicken reminded me of chicken nuggets. The waffles lacked flavor in my opinion and the potatoes were overcooked. I sent the potatoes back and received another order that was still overcooked. My waiter was very patient, and he did try to accommodate me, but the food just wasn't up to par for me. I would go back and try it again one day and hopefully have a better experience. read more

Honestly not sure what the fuss is about with this place. I live in Charlotte and I heard rumors that we are going to get one of these restaurants in our city so I was excited when my friend said we were going here for her birthday dinner. We showed up with a reservation for our party, we were sat at a large high top table in the middle of the restaurant. We had a gentlemen server and we all tried to quickly order the drinks "that everyone raves about"... we wanted to get an ice show and someone at our table ordered a neat whiskey so that we could get one. Well into our meal they apologized that the ice show was taking so long and gave the customer a drink for free. Our whole party was done with dinner and cake prior to our ice show showing up... then this ice cube wasn't even given in a drink... he sat it on top of a water bottle and left it. Isn't the whole point of ordering this ice to enjoy it in a whiskey.... Also the "show" is super simple and took only about 30 seconds so why the heck did it take so long to come to our table?!?!? The restaurant itself seems like it should be very nice and elegant but it's decor is very casual and didn't seem to fit. They are known for the shrimp and grits which was pretty tasty. My date and myself ordered a soup and salad to split and the large seafood platter. When it arrived the ice was completely melted in the platter, our shrimp were just sitting in water. We also both order old fashioned and by the time that we got them the ice was mostly melted. You can't pride yourself on cocktails and take so long to get them to the table. We would have ordered more drink if they were brought promptly. Our crab bisque and wedge salad were brought at the same time as our seafood platter which shouldn't have happened. My favorite thing we had was the soup. It took 20 minutes to get our checks and then they were not split right. Overall we wouldn't return and because of this we don't feel drawn to go to the one that is coming to Charlotte. read more

One of my all time faves. have tried many of their menu items but nothing beats their grilled salmon. Honorable mentions include the filet and tortellini, or their grilled scallops. I went recently for my birthday with a group of 8 friends and they were extra accommodating. They even gave me a delicious slice of green tea cheesecake which I shared with the table. Eagle rare and dewars after waiting thirty minutes we we told they were out of all three Really?!?!? After ten more minutes you asked the bartender what the delay was. He said it wasn't his fault. I said "u don't care do u?" He said"no I don't care ". Shocking how bad the service was. Food was marginal. Never going back. Too many good choices to put up with attitude and bad service. Went to Stir for the first time. Great atmosphere. Started with the cheeseburger Egg Rolls which were the bomb. I still think about them weeks later. I settled on the scallops which came with roasted vegetables. I LOVE scallops but I didn't love them here. The way they were cooked w may have been sautéed or fried I dint really know but I wasn't a fan. What I was a fan of, was the roasted veggies. They were delish. They don't have a drink menu or at least our server didn't present one. We told her our spirit of choice and she brought a drink. For me she brought a Lemon Drop. It was tasty but definitely would jot have been my drink of choice. Too sweet for my liking. Our server was good but didn't crack a smile. So serious it was strange. Also had her mask down around her chin the whole time. Defeats the purpose of the mask. Due to the ambience and the egg rolls, 4 stars it is. read more

This is closer to 3.5 stars than 4, for the record. I came here to celebrate my big sister's birthday and we had a pretty large party so they accommodated our party in a separate room from the main dining area of the restaurant. The first thing I noticed and really liked is that they offered complimentary valet which I'm not accustomed to, I was ready to pay the dub but to my surprise it was free!! The actual restaurant itself is really cute. It looks modern and really clean. I like the bar area a lot it was really pretty, real cute for a date night I imagine. I am from the area and can recall how North Hills looked a few years ago, it's amazing to see how much things have changed! There's an AC hotel, capitol grille, and all the other makings of a hip metropolis lol. I was like ok Raleigh, y'all trying to step it up!! The service we received was interesting, the waiter and I had some weird energy but I tried not to let that influence my review too much. He didn't seem to like me asking questions and inquiring about the "ice show" but he didn't know he had a whole budding food critic in his presence so I'll let him slide. He may have been overwhelmed b/c of the size of our party but cuz was a lil strange. I like the fact they do artisanal ice with your drinks, although I had to press the waiter to make an ice sphere for the birthday girl (again imma give him the benefit of the doubt but had it not been my sister bday he would've gotten pulled to the side and chatted with!!) Ok now to the food, it was straight. Not amazing but also not terrible either. I know a few people in our party were dissatisfied with things but my meal was decent. I had the spicy salmon burger with a side of cheesy grits. I wish the burger had other things on it, like LTO. The grits weren't too bad and I'm a grit fanatic. Something is not quite right at Stir. Had a subpar experience recently. Inefficiencies and ball drops were a theme throughout our experience. Despite only a few tables active, their overstaffed (and inexperienced) personnel could not get their act together. Most were hanging out at a booth socializing (major faux pas of any establishment). From the host/hostess, and wait staff, they were not good. On top of that, their prices are way too high for the quality. Food was...meh. Raw oysters good. Char broiled were burnt and over cooked. Steak bowl was a soupy. sugary mess. Fries over salted and limp. I used to dine here often when working in the nearby tower. It has gone way down hill since. We won't be back. read more

I want to preface this review by acknowledging that STIR Raleigh is new, and today was their first brunch service after the grand opening. My partner and I were actually the first people seated for Saturday Brunch. The space is fantastic. There is a beautiful bar, comfortable chairs and an excellent array of seating options, and really fluid movement between indoor and outdoor spaces. I think choices in decor and design were smart. It is an impressive space that is perfect for brunch or cocktails or a nice date. I was also impressed with the menu. Conceptually, the dishes are smartly designed and reasonably priced. There is an excellent cocktail menu. And they do $1 mimosas which is fantastic. I say all of these things to make clear that I really wanted to like the place and that I had high expectations. I ended up disappointed by the actual food, though. We started with the mimosas, which were very warm. I ordered the filet benedict, and my partner ordered the shrimp & crab benedict. Both showed up looking stunningly beautiful. Unfortunately, the filet was drastically under-seasoned, tough, and cold, and the poached eggs on both our plates were very cold, almost chilled, which is weird given that it is summer in North Carolina. My English muffin was also almost fully dissolved in the pool of tomato juice and hollandaise, too. The potatoes on the side were good, and we enjoyed the bunch bar. Again, I think that both of these plates were *conceptually* good dishes; they just had some major problems with execution. Walked in on a Sunday afternoon. The hostess refused to seat my party of two alleging that they were no longer seating for brunch and the waitlist was too long. Brunch was ending about an hour later and there was no indication that they close in-between meals. Additionally, the hostess never asked if we were hoping for brunch specifically. We've been enjoying Stir since discovering it in Charlotte a few years back and then eventually realizing there is one locally for us in Raleigh. The menu is full of tasty options, we've tried many things and never been disappointed. Today we dined at the bar for the first time and Bartender Jess was pretty amazing, doing everything- she was the only employee around for most of our time in the seats. Despite being understaffed (?- I'm guessing that's the case) she did not seem rattled at all. Grilled chicken sandwiches were amazing- fries are always delicious. I love that Stir's menu includes a variety of oysters to enjoy with their fabulous cocktails . Yesterday, I enjoyed a sampler of Blue Point, Beausoleil, Harker's Island, and Fanny Bay Oysters. If you prefer slightly briny oysters, like I do, definitely try the Beausoleil and Fanny Bay. The restaurant also has a full lunch/dinner/brunch menu. Personally, I can't wait to sample their brunch menu. STIR also has a wonderful cocktail list and each is accompanied by their artisan ice. One of my favorites cocktail is Stir's Whiskey Bramble. In addition to the oysters, the Parmesan White Truffle Fries are a must! I love that the restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. Parking at North Hills/Midtown can always be a little complicated. The restaurant is located in the Bank of America building and there is parking available in their garage. read more

The service was absolutely awful, and has been everytime I have gone here. We sat 20 min before we even got acknowledged. We ordered two martinis and they came as completely different pour sizes. Our appetizers came out way after our entrees, which came an hour + after we ordered them, and the shucked oysters had shells in them. I understand if places are understaffed, but they had servers standing around doing nothing. I can't even critique our server because she never told us her name, but she lied about putting in an order, saying instead that no one was at the oyster bar to get the order ready, despite us watching the person working at the oyster bar, and then watching her put in the order after we brought it up. Giving it a two star because the martini tasted good. I'd recommend any of the other restaurants in that area, like Cowfish. read more

The fried mahi-mahi in a bowl was an uninspired "Asian" dish. So essentially you're paying for the view (and again only if you sit outdoors because there is nothing much indoors). I am certain that there are better food nearby. PS. I just like to make a special mention that the tables outdoors are ill-designed. It will not allow two people to sit on one long side comfortably because the legs of the table are place too far inside from the edges. They make super fun Sphere Ice for top shelf on the rock orders. I tried the Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky and it did not disappoint. My hubs got a Hemingway Daiquiri on shaved ice. If you're looking for great bar ambiance, STIR is the place for you. However, when it comes to the service-at least that our family received, there was much to be desired. When we politely asked the hostess if we could be seated at a both, despite there being many available, she brusquely sat us at one where we had a lovely view of...the kitchen. I know that may sound picky, but the place was not packed by any means, and I chose STIR because of the great photos I saw posted. After we were seated, we were left waiting for about 10-15 minutes before *any* of the staff even ACKNOWLEDGED us. We were just about to leave when a waitress finally approached us (which is odd, considering that being seated right in front of the kitchen entrance/exit, servers were passing by constantly). Anyway, once we did get noticed, our server was kind and attentive to us. The food was good (especially the cheese grits), but overpriced for upper-mediocre quality. The sangria I had tasted more like watered down juice than any sangria I've ever had before, and definitely NOT worth $12 a glass. I don't think our family will be coming back to STIR, at least anytime in the near future. Why repeat this experience when there are a plethora of restaurants to try in Raleigh? read more

Adequate breakfast. Stir is designed simply and has a few televisions in strategic places surrounding the seating area. I ordered the "stir it up" frittata and sat at the bar. The frittata was more similar to an open-faced omelette than an actual frittata. There was a good deal of liquid in the dish likely arising from the water in the vegetables not being released properly. Overall, it was a pretty flavorless meal that I would highly not recommend. Needless to say, Stir is perhaps not the best brunch spot in Raleigh. read more

Great spot for drinks in North Hills. I took my girlfriend on a date night there and we had a great time. Drink menu had any cocktail, wine, or beer you could ask for. Service was quick and our waiter was friendly. Only quarrel with the restaurant was the steep prices and Samosas appetizer I ordered. Bill came out quite high for four drinks and one appetizer.
