Bought a used Ford Expedition from Stivers that was out of warranty but inspected. We had driven it less than 100 miles when the radiator hose blew. Now, six months later and 400 miles from home, the cam phaser sensors went out and during repair it was discovered that both turbo blades were badly damaged (bent/broken blades). The damage had to have occurred prior to our ownership. Total cost: $10K plus rental car and trip back to pick it up. Stiver's sales manager said those items wouldn't have been caught on their standard vehicle inspection and we should have purchased the extended warranty. Best not to rely on their prepurchase inspection. read more

I agree with Wayne, John is awesome. They have always taken care of the issues with my car(s). I have purchased tires there at a very good price and free rotations which they take care of quickly. Reasonable prices, quick service and willing to stand behind what they have done. Alan does a good job as well. Would highly recommend them. read more

*FEMALES BEWARE* The service department was absolutely awful. The 2 men I worked with (one service advisor & one assistant manager) were rude and arrogant. They had refused to give me detailed pricing of suggested repairs, added extra hidden charges without notifying me beforehand (trying to secretly add costs so they'd get more commission I'm sure), then didn't provide the same information or treatment to a male when I had him call in for me after they refused to work with me personally. Conveniently, when I had a MALE call in and talk to them about the issues - with the exact same information I had already given them multiple times - the car was suddenly all fixed and the bad charges were removed. read more

Both I took my car in due to a recall on a part. Took about an hour. As I was preparing to leave, the service receptionist asked if I noticed my outside temp Guage saying -40. Never have I ever had trouble with this...until today. Now, 1.5 hours later, the service technician can't find the problem and I am still waiting. The reception guy told me it was like that when it was driven into the shop.....I suppose that could have happened, but the likelihood of that is very slim. In any event, ?can't find the problem or caused the problem? Both not a good scenerio. read more

Tire repair was a success thanks to Tiffanee and her manager

I took my truck in for an oil change and multi-point inspection. They presented me with a multi-point inspection that came back great. I thought all was good. Two days later, I drove my truck and it started to shudder/shake. I got to my boyfriend's house and told him what was happening. He drove it and noticed the same thing. He then checked the transmission fluid and it was non-existent on the dipstick. How could my fluids be "green" and then two days later be non-existent!? My boyfriend is a big car guy and proceeded to check other things on my truck. When he went to check the differential/transfer case, he noticed the bolt was rusted on and there was no way they checked the fluids there either. Note: The multi-point inspection showed the differential/transfer case fluid was "green." I was not going to drive my truck. The next day, I called Stiver's and asked to speak with the Service Manager. I explained that I had just been in for an oil change and had a good report on the multi-point yet, my tranny fluid was non-existant on the dipstick and there was a shudder to my truck. I also explained that the bolt was still rusted on. Therefore, the multi-point inspection was inaccurate. To my surprise, he agreed that they probably never checked the fluids!!!! He said I needed to bring it in and I advised him that I feared driving it. They came and got my truck and drove it to the dealership. I got a report back that the seal on the transmission was bad and therefore all the fluid was going into the transfer case. When we picked up the truck, they had leveled the fluids in both the tranny and transfer case. When we asked if they were the same fluid in both (we assumed they were not) they said yes. Truth is, they are NOT the same fluids! Needless to say, I did not let them fix my seal. I took it to another mechanic. I do not trust Stiver's at all. I advise you not to either! read more

I cannot tell you how amazing the service department is at Stivers. I was having a tricky problem with the climate control on my Ford Fusion. I had been traveling and didn't have air conditioning because of the issue. I tried multiple Ford Dealerships where I was at the time and they have absolutely no desire to help me. I called Stivers and drove 350 miles back to Iowa to have them handle the issue. I arrived and had a rental car (at no expense) within minutes. They have a rental service on the lot. I received texts from Steve (who works overnight or late) with questions as he narrowed down the issue. They ordered parts and completed repair. This was an awesome experience and I could not have expected any more! read more

I brought my father's car in for a problem with a power steering fault message that was showing up on the dash. They properly diagnosed the problem and the car needed a new power steering rack. At the time, I declined the repair as it was $1,900 and the power steering had yet to fail. Unfortunately, the power steering failed a week later, just before a move to California. I called to try to see if it was possible to get an appointment prior to our leave date. I called and left messages 3 times. No return call. I certainly understand if they could not fit me in, but what I do expect is a return call letting me know they could not accommodate me. I called Charles Gabus Ford and they were able to fit me in. I generally do not like to leave a negative review, but when you do not return calls that is just not acceptable. It is also not acceptable that my father purchased this car from Stivers. You would think that that would mean something, but in today's world, maybe not. read more

I didn't see many persons of diverse nationalities or culture. I was happy to see one employee who was of color, that made me feel more comfortable. I was disappointed to see the lack of diversity and I would hope that those who were of diverse background were treated respectfully the same as all employees, but I'm doubtful. I also noticed how front desk employees were of course women and they're weren't many female employees in other departments. I don't even believe there is a women's restroom in the garage where the technicians and detailers work. I found that to be disappointing and slightly uncomfortable. I don't find this business to be very morally competent or sound. I had to speak to a manager for an issue and he didn't seem to want to help. He also didn't seem to care for his employees objectively and often used foul language. I believe he was a manager for the detailing department. A lot of the employees were also just sitting around on there phones, but mostly they all just took a lot of smoke breaks-- a lot of smoking around the building by employees. The environment was uncomfortable to me unfortunately. I won't be going back. read more

The process to repair our front end after our car went into the ditch this winter could not have gone more smooth with the collision center at Stivers. There was no appointment needed to bring our car by for an estimate, right away they were in contact with our insurance company and in communication with us. The parts were ordered and work was done in full within the week as they told us. We had constant communication about timing of parts arriving and work on our car. We picked up our car and it had been washed and vacuumed. Excellent work and wonderful customer service! read more

Took my car in for an oil change a couple of months ago, and asked them to check everything out. They told me my battery was wearing down, but didn't need immediate replacement. Last night, my car wouldn't start so I assumed the battery had given out...opened up the hood to find a corroded battery. Battery acid had been leaking, and there were signs that they had treated it, but hadn't actually fixed it - and failed to inform me. It I had known that my battery was leaking, I would have gotten it replaced a lot sooner. I'm very unimpressed with the failure to diagnose and inform, and will not be going back. read more

I stopped by Stiver's Ford Service Department on my way into Waukee today, 04/17/14. We have had our Ford vehicles serviced there since 2005. I was in because I had put my husband's credit card in the ashtray area for safe keeping. Well, I shut the door too quickly and sent his credit card flying behind the ashtray into the dashboard void. I tried everything to get it out, but gave up because I did not want to break it. Mike Reed came out of the service area with a flashlight. He looked at what I had done and went to get his tools. In a matter of a few minutes, he had retrieved my husband's card and saved me years of "harassment". He was very kind about the whole thing. (must be married?) *Update* After the events of my original review I came back in to ask for assistance in cleaning the leather seat that they had stained (I spent an hour trying to clean it myself) and to get a breakdown of labor hours since different people had told me different prices and hours. They sprayed and wiped the seat, which didn't do much to help and said someone would call me that day. The next morning around 7:50AM I received a call. They said that it had taken three hours to find the problem and three hours to fix it at $120 per hour. The ride control error was considered a separate issue, but they would take a look at it for free (previously they said they couldn't fix it). The earliest that they could look at it was in five days. That night I noticed three button lights were out on the center console. The next day my steering wheel suddenly became extremely difficult to turn and I nearly ran into oncoming traffic. The steering wheel resistance randomly changed two more times on my way home. This was a problem that I had told the dealership about in detail when I originally brought the car in. It was the exact problem that drew my attention to the fact that my windows, turn signals, speedometer, etc. had stopped working and the existence of numerous error messages on the screen. Since my car has an option to change steering resistance on the center console I had assumed it was connected to all the other electronics malfunctions. When I brought the car in for the second time I told them about the persisting steering issue, how it was part of the originally stated problem, and how it nearly got me wrecked because I had erroneously believed it was fixed. No one had told me that they hadn't fixed it. I also told them about the dead lights on the center console. After a few hours they discovered the shock on the driver's side was bad and was causing issues with the power steering and also causing the ride control error. They asked for $680 to replace the shock and mentioned that it would have to be tested afterwards to confirm the problem was solved. They told me the dead lights on the center console could not be fixed without replacing the message center entirely. It is my suspicion that they caused the problem while working on the car, but maybe those lights just burned out during the six days that they had it. I declined to let them touch my car again. After giving me back my car with a serious steering issue that I thought was fixed they do not have my trust, but they have my money. read more

this is my second truck from them. I bought a 2015 f250 diesel this time. I took in home. going home it started shaking really bad, the steering wheel and the truck at 70 and 75 mph. took it back the next day. they looked at it and said was the tires out of balance. still the same thing. they tried six times and all they did was rebalance the tires. I took it to discount tires and they checked it out. they said the two rear tires were out of round. went back to stivers. they said only one tire was out of round and would only replace one. left and still doing the same thing. went some were else. firestone. they said front u joints bad. went back to stivers. they said they are okay. still shaking. went to shottenkirk ford in Indianola. tool mechanic for a ride and he said would look at it and give him an hour. hour goes by and he said a control bar in the front and the wheel hub on the front passenger side had exploded and it was locked in four wheel drive and the u joint was bad because of that. I had them fix it. my warrantee covered part of it except a little over eight hundred dollars. I go back to stivers for them to refund the money I paid and they said no. I said you couldn't figure it out so I had someone else fix it. wanted to talk to the manager and said they were gone. the used car manager said he would look in to it and call me back in three days. no calls and it has been four weeks. I won't go back there ever unless they are giving my money back for the repairs. never let them work on my vehicle not even to check the tire pressure. read more
