So this place has been around for a while, but was in a building next door, with no inside seating. The new spot is open, clean, with floor to ceiling glass walls looking out. The young woman @ the counter was very nice. I went on Wednesday, and they have a really good special that day. $8.99 You get a choice of about 5 sandwiches + fries. I went with the STL Cheesesteak, and added banana peppers and jalapeños. WOW! It was great! They did dress it with lettuce and tomato, which was sorta odd, but it was just fine. I would have had them keep it off half for reheating purposes. I only ate half of mine, as I would have needed a nap if I plowed through the whole thing. They have wings, and burgers too. Okay this truly feels like a hole in the wall spot, and it kinda is, but aren't hole in the walls usually the best food? This spot did not disappoint. Plenty of searing and great service. Everyone was so nice. Amazing food. And I mean amazing. Their steak and chicken sandwiches are both bomb, and STUFFED full of filling. We shared some fries too which were also fantastic. As a North County resident, trekking to South City felt like a mini road trip to Chicago, but Morganford's beautiful architecture and signs of new growth immediately impressed me. The energy around STL Steak and Cake hinted at something special even before I stepped inside. I had the pleasure of chatting with owner Marquita, learning about her inspiring five-year journey from Soulard. Her confidence, dedication, and ability to connect while prepping for the dinner rush were truly commendable. Marquita made me my very first STL Cheesesteak (with my extra additions of banana peppers and pickles!), and it easily earns a 5/5, comparable to my beloved Penn Station. But the real star? That damn gooey butter cake! I savored the lemon blueberry - seriously the best. These incredible baked goods are crafted by Tavera, Marquita's daughter, who transitioned from fast food to her mom's kitchen. We ordered several things for pickup. Online ordering was easy and intuitive. Food was ready within 15mins. Service was amazing - they were really warm, friendly, and helpful. Everything we ordered was hot and delicious. We got the monster loaded fries and they were absolutely 'loaded'. Definitely recommend if you're hungry !! There is no seating inside so we had a picnic in Tower Grove Park. We ordered STL Famous Cheesesteak, Sriracha Steak, and blueberry gooey butter cake. The STL cheesesteak bread was so soft and the meat was tender. This is a highly recommended food. We had Sriracha Steak and it was alright, overbearing with spice and couldn't really taste the meat. Love this place and love their food. always fresh and delicious. Although my overall experience with them and their service has been good, I did have a negative experience with an employee that was working when I picked up a to go order. The employee was abrasive, not helpful and was downright rude. When my order came up,, she basically threw it at me and left without saying word. Now, Im Very thankful that these kinds of mom and pop places feel compelled to open in our ever changing neighborhood and hopefully thrive to encourage others to invest As well. Customer service as I just described will not lead to this outcome. i will continue to give them my business and will chuck this up as someone having a less than stellar day. The Cajun chicken cheesesteak was amazing! And it was so big so I could only eat half and brought the rest home. I wrapped it in tin foil and put it in the air fryer for about 10 minutes this afternoon and it was even better the second day! I also had the banana pudding with 'nilla wafers and suddenly I was six years old again sitting in my grandmas lap and eating her banana pudding. I kind of feel bad leaving a poor review because the service was actually really good and the place is clean. But the meal was absolutely terrible, some of the worst food I've had all year. The burger was one of those nasty frozen thin premade patties like the kind you get at red Robin, no flavor at all. The fries were also terrible, tasted like dirt, even when I dumped salt all over them, they still tasted like dirt. Pretty bad when the flavor is so awful it absorbs the flavor of the salt. The cheese sauce was equally disgusting. I mean, there is a place in this world for cheap nacho cheese, but this is like the worst cheapest of the cheap nacho cheese and it's absolutely disgusting. I would've been better off taking a torch lighter and melting a plastic toy onto the fries and having a better time. Considering this place upgraded to a better venue, I thought they would be good, but I was horribly disappointed. I will never go back. Do better guys, what the heck?
