Okay St. Louis, I might lose some local cred for this, but this week was my first time exploring Morganford Road, and wow! I stumbled upon a gem: STL Steak and Cake. As a North County resident, trekking to South City felt like a mini road trip to Chicago, but Morganford's beautiful architecture and signs of new growth immediately impressed me. The energy around STL Steak and Cake hinted at something special even before I stepped inside. I had the pleasure of chatting with owner Marquita, learning about her inspiring five-year journey from Soulard. Her confidence, dedication, and ability to connect while prepping for the dinner rush were truly commendable. Marquita made me my very first STL Cheesesteak (with my extra additions of banana peppers and pickles!), and it easily earns a 5/5, comparable to my beloved Penn Station. But the real star? That damn gooey butter cake! I savored the lemon blueberry - seriously the best. These incredible baked goods are crafted by Tavera, Marquita's daughter, who transitioned from fast food to her mom's kitchen. They're too humble to say it, so I will: This is the BEST gooey butter cake in St. Louis, and I've tried them all. I'm staking my reputation on it! Plus, their sweet tea is next level - better than Raising Cane's and McDonald's. This review is definitely a new favorite. There is no seating inside so we had a picnic in Tower Grove Park. We ordered STL Famous Cheesesteak, Sriracha Steak, and blueberry gooey butter cake. The STL cheesesteak bread was so soft and the meat was tender. This is a highly recommended food. We had Sriracha Steak and it was alright, overbearing with spice and couldn't really taste the meat. Don't recommend. Then, to top it off with blueberry gooey butter cake. Rich, creamy, and oozy.

Always a tasty choice! Service is fast, the new location is bright and sunny (great upgrade), and the lunch special is an incredible deal.

The cheesesteak is decent. I'll get it gain. Wish there was a bit more meat and cheese. Oh yeah and longer for the price.

The worst aspect is the ventilation which needs much work. We came out smelling so greasy and smokey. We seated ourselves and waited a minute for our waitress to assist us. She kept saying she was new, that it was like her second day or something and didn't quite know the menu. She also didn't know how to make a drink, with that being the case why are you allowed to make any cocktails. If you have a limited cocktail menu but an extensive bar selection you would think their cocktail specials were on point. Nooooo. The BF tried a margarita special and it was awful. I tried a special crafted cocktail that was cool that our waitress asked the guy bartending to specially make because she had no clue about what I was talking about. I hate going to a spot where I make drinks better than the bartenders on hand and that's your job. The BF ordered the the garlic burger and I ordered the Korean wings which NEVER came out because our waitress forgot to order them. So I shared food with the BF. The burger was extremely underwhelming, not seasoned at all. How do you specialize in burgers and mess that up. The best item we ate was the fries and the comedy show was good. I love dinner and entertainment. We are burger enthusiast and if this what your restaurant specializes in I expect to be wowed. We saw all the social media hype surrounding this place and were so excited to try them. To find out it was ALL just hype is a real let down. No we will not be returning, the burgers and service speak for themselves.

They're known for their smash burgers and seasoned fries. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the food bc I had dinner plans, but I did stay for a couple drinks. They have a great selection of spirits and cocktail specials. My friend got a tequila sunrise, so I followed suit. The pour was quite generous, I must say, and I'm def not complaining. The drink was smooth, with the perfect amount of tequila and sweetness. The bartenders working were both friendly and sociable. The vibe was relaxed and is a great alternative when things get too crazy at the dam. While I only got drinks, I'll for sure be back. The smells alone (all good of course) will have you lingering back!

We were taking to-go as we had one more stop to make on the way home. He took our order at the counter and answered a few questions with ease and a great attitude. Beyond the chili cheese fries, I ordered a hot dog plain with a side of the smokey, pepper mustard I love. I took a bite of the hotdog before I put it away for my next days lunch. We tried the chili cheese fries, and they were really good. I like the chili and could order that on its own. We know Steve's has the best fries! She ordered the po'boy after our server recommended it as the best value on the menu, but it didn't quite win her over. If we come back, she'll probably skip the value calculation and go straight for flavor by ordering the jalapeño-loaded burger that I had. The ambience was nice. It's a clean Gastropub that blends perfectly with the south Tower Grove vibe. Seeing the bartender wearing a Murphy's Law T-shirt was a big plus. Overall, this is the first burger spot in St. Louis that has made me excited to come back for another visit.
