Now, usually I'd go to my normal mechanic, who is OUTRAGEOUSLY good, but in Oakland (shout out to Johnny's Auto) and would drop the car off on my way to work. Since I'm on vacay for the summer, I thought I'd try and find something closer to home. Okay, I REALLY wanted to like this place, please believe me! You Yelpers had me totally sold. When I called the shop to talk to Bob, he sounded like a great guy, nice and knowlegible. The driver's window in my 01 Honda for some reason just stopped working and he said that he had someone in w/ the same problem a few days ago. Sweet! He should know exactly what needs to be done. I rolled by to drop off the car and got sorta confused because it's in an area w/ other shops...a transmission place, maybe an autobody shop??, but I finally saw a sign for Stoller's near the end of the street. Just to warn you, its a tight fit on that street, very narrow.... I met Bob, again a really nice man and he told me he'd take a look at it and call me when he knows what's up. Well, almost 4 hours later and no call. I call him and he said that it was exactly what he thought it was and was waiting for the part to be delivered. A few hours later, I call again and he tells me the car is ready. My sister gives me a lift to the place and I go see Bob to settle up. I mention to Bob that I found him from Yelp and he said that he gets a few that way, but he's not really into computers. In fact he mentions he doesn't even have a cell phone. Interesting....I mention that there are cell phones and plans that are pay per use, so that way he'd have it for emergencies...lol...I also mention that a computer could really him w/ invoices and customer's information, etc...he laughs me off and I figure it's none of my business anyway...leave the man alone whydontcha:-) Anyway, I go out to my car and am a little confused because the window is still down. I hit the button to go up. Nothing...I try again...still nothing. WTF??? I get pissed so I start pushing the button up and down and wouldn't you know it??? Whatever they did, the put the switch on BACKWARDS! Up now is down, and down is up....crappers!!!! And, on top of that, my window is filthy w/ crud all over it. I'm trying to clean it off and my sister (god bless her) shouts from her car "Why are YOU cleaning the window???". Needless to say, I went in to tell Bob what happened. He seems perplexed and said maybe they ordered or delivered the wrong part. I need my car for an appointment the next morning and I can't leave it for another day. I bring it in a day later and Bob fixes it and tells me they just installed it wrong. I would have at least figured an adjustment shoulda been made for labor, right??? No. Nice guy, but workmanship? I'm not impressed. Perhaps this is just a fluke, but i'm not taking any more chances. If this is my experience with a window cable fix, I'd be really nervous to think of what might happen w/ a serious engine problem. read more

Mad thanks to J.L. for the first review. I went here based 100% on the review here and let me tell you, Bob is the nicest guy! I took my truck in for the 60k check-up-a $450 service at the dealer. It cost me MUCH less from Bob. How much? Let me just say that it was so much less, I could fly Bob out to Vegas on Southwest for the difference. Of course, I went to Vegas and Bob hung out at home with his wife, but that's another story... Why is it so much cheaper? Well, because he does exactly is needed, and nothing more. He doesn't charge for stuff that he doesn't do, and if it isn't necessary, he doesn't do it. Pretty simple. read more

This is a prime example of old school prevailing over the new age. The guy that operates this place is a guy named Bob. He is an honest guy who wouldn't try to do work that doesn't need to be done. If your car has a odd noise or you feel like its not running properly, bring it down because chances are, Bob is able to diagnose what the problem is pretty quickly. Hmmm I almost regret posting this review because if more people hear about this place I will probably have to wait longer next time to get my car fixed. So if your looking for honest, good quality work done at a very low price, this is the place. read more

Shhh!...this is my best kept secret... A friend of a friend of a friend of a girl I work with's boyfriend's father's friend referred me to this place when my brakes started acting up. Since then I have gone back for a new door lock, a couple of brakelights, a battery, and superb advice on where to get my windshield fixed by a reputable mechanic for a reasonable price. Bob is nice and his prices are CrAzY cheap. For example: my rear brake pads on my type of vehicle cost me $95 and he charged me nothing, nada, zip, for labor. He always has time to work on my vehicle and like I just stated, his cost for labor is usually minimal to none. Aside from all of that, what I like best about Bob is that he is one of those old school mechanics that likes to tinker with vehicles. If you have a problem that no one else can fix, Bob probably can. And he'll tinker with it until he finds the problem and if he can't figure it out then he WON'T even charge you for labor like most places. I definitely recommend taking your vehicle here! read more

After reading all the YELP reviews, I thought I'd give it a try. I drove into the lot searching for this "Bob" and to my surprise a man sitting in the office of the location of his address said Bob no longer worked there. I asked nearby mechanics who shared the lot and they all said they don't know who Bob is or where he went.... I'm pretty sad because I spoke to another random man in the lot who charged me a few hundred dollars to fix my driver side window and from reading the previous yelp reviews, many yelpers said that Bob's prices were reasonable. I was hoping to meet this honest mechanic (BOB!!!!). Can someone tell me if he relocated or retired!!!!???!?!!?!?!?! I want Bob to fix my car!!!! WAHHHHHHHHHHH! read more

Took the car in to have the driver side window fixed. Bob even mentioned "the incident" about the negative review. Long story short bob took the door apart and replaced a missing screw and did it free of charge. Just ignore that "other" review. Bob did a great job and did it quick. He is a friendly and honest man. read more

My daughter came home from college and told me that the check engine light was on in my old truck. She had driven it like that for over 100 miles. Being that it's the holiday's, I really didn't have the money to fix it but using Yelp I found this Auto Repair. I called and asked for an appointment, I spoke with Bob. Bob said he was waiting for some parts and wasn't doing much at the moment, so I could come now. I went to him. I told Bob, I had tried the typical fixes but the sensor light didn't go out. Bob put a sensor reader on the truck and found nothing wrong. He thought I was right about the gas cap not being on tight when my daughter got home. Bob reset the sensor and it didn't come back on. If asked him what the cost was for the diagnostic, NO CHARGE! Thanks Yelp! I've got my new mechanic! read more

The last honest auto repair shop. We called around to have my car worked on and at the same time I checked out Yelp and Yahoo reviews. Every single review had given Bob Stoller 5 Stars. Now I know why. Bob just did a major tune-up on my 4Runner. He replaced also the timing belt and water pump, front brakes, etc. He bottom line did not replace things he did not feel needed replacing, he called me to ask if it was ok if he replaced something he felt was really needed and bottom line he charged far less compared to other repair shops around. I'm totally pleased with his services. I hope others out there will give Bob a chance, he's #1 in my books from now on. read more

After reading the reviews, I was still skeptical that a mechanic might actually be honest! But I've taken my wife's Honda Civic and my Hyundai Santa Fe here for an oil leak and brakes respectively, and he did a great job at an extremely fair price. For my wife's car, he MADE a plate instead of ordering it from the dealer, and I was a little bit leery about that, but it has been working like a charm for a few months now. He changed my brake pads and showed me the old parts and explained why he wasn't planning on doing the load of unnecessary work that every other mechanic has always recommended to me. This is truly the last honest repairman who can recite facts about any car, any year, straight off the top of his head. He's amazing! read more

very pleasant experience at stoller's auto repair. went in because my car would make a grinding noise every time i made a left turn. called this place up and bob said he could take a look at it right then and there. easy finding the place, right beside walgreens and he took a look at it and i guess a piece of plastic was loose so he retightened it and did the other side and thats all it was. hes a very nice guy and we ended up chatting for quite some time. the cost was only 10 but i told him to charge 20 because i just thought..why not. thank you so much! read more

My family has been going to Stoller's for years because he is so dependable and honest. three times now other mechanics have told me I had to do repairs that number in the thousands of dollars, but then I took it to Bob and he fixed it for less than one hundred. There was one time a part broke that would have cost several hundred to replace, so he opened up the part and found the one piece that broke in it, he saw a number on it and called the manufacturer and asked for that number of part, it was ten bucks, he switched just the component and I got out with a thirty dollar repair on a several hundred dollar part! I have found form experience that it is cheaper every time if I always go to bob, no matter the distance. (I live in Livermore) read more
