This business is the best example of good customer service that I have experienced recently. Yesterday I was referred to Stone Art because I wanted to have three small paintings matted and framed before Christmas. Aaron Bros wasn't able to do it. The owner, Mr Stone, was delightful. He patiently helped me select two different frames that complemented the paintings and tied in with one another as well. The matting was hand rolled with a lovely linen type fabric. The final product turned out far beyond my expectations and the price is far lower than my expectations. Mr Stone called me this morning to let me know the frames were already completed (less than 24 hours). She said they'd be ready in approximately 2 weeks, which was fine with me since I needed to make space for them. She called four days later to tell me they were done! Had been walking by this store on trips to Santa Monica over the past two years. It was always closed as I was up and about getting breakfast in the area. In the window they display a featured artist Rodger Bigg who does fabulous beach landscapes / everyday life type of stuff. Needing a birthday for for my daughter I called down on a Friday asking what they had in stock from Bigg - within 3 minutes photos of the work had been texted to me, selection made, credit card processed - all good in my eyes. I had a need and they instantly fulfilled it. They even threw in a frame and retouched it to make the painting squeaky clean. It showed up on time in San Francisco a few days later and my daughter was thrilled with the surprise and memories of her time in Santa Monica. Well done Stone Art - you guys are great. read more

I am so impressed with the level of service from Stone Art. From the minute I pulled into the convenient parking lot in the back of this shop to my last steps leaving. I am an artist and I am very particular with who handles my artwork. The designers and staff take such pride in their work. I was pleasantly helped in several ways at this one stop gem of a find Art and Frame shop. I was able to have my canvas stretched, order a wonderful museum quality custom frame (at a very good price) and have a beautiful plaque with my name on it, all at one shop - and Voila. I had two big exhibitions in 2010 and 2011....a total of 150 18 x 24 (75 prints each year) prints were matted and framed with plenty of time to hang the show and this kind of consistant performance both years. I have never experienced this kind of a customer service anywhere before! Isabella seems to know about combining frames and mats quite well- also, she was extremely helpful and let me lay all the frames on the floor- she worked around my budget and never rushed me- so i took my own time in selecting the frames. She even removed the plastic wrap on one of the frames just so i could see what it would look like. I love this place and am quite comfortable and will be back. read more

TERRIBLE service. The ones working the counter seem uneducated in the art world and have no clue how to combine color palattes. The girl was asking the owner around the corner how to charge for something, and I guess they didn't realize I could hear them. His reply was to "charge me whatever she could." I am so glad to have found STONE ART! I had a large canvas that needed stretching, and Stone Art offered the best price in town, as well as the fastest turnaround. I was initially incredulous on the phone when Roy gave me a quote for a large triptych, but after bringing my canvas to his store, I understood why he was able to offer such great prices. Roy has a workshop on site, and his friendly staff were all busy doing the work that many other framers outsource. I won't name the other well known framer that I got my first quote from, but they quoted me a significantly higher price plus they needed 10 days more lead-time to get the work done. Roy also called me with updates - to notify me when he was going to do the work, and followed through and delivered on time. He was always friendly, professional, and offered great advice. The final piece is beautiful, and I couldn't be more pleased. I don't write Yelp reviews often, however, after the incredible service I got, and the fantastic results, I just had to spread the good word to my friends and the Yelp community! I brought in a $10 poster to get framed and was advised by the lady at the counter to spend $300 on some elaborate frame that didn't even match the poster. When I told her I was reluctant to spend $300 on framing a $10 poster, she became condescending and called me cheap. I told her I collect animation art and have over a dozen framed pieces that I've spent over $300 each on framing. She told me she didn't believe me. That's when I left and took my business elsewhere. read more

(next to Zucky's- meters in front + a few parking spots in the back) I've had 3 pieces framed so far, and plan to bring all my art to be framed here from now on. I thought it important to provide an update. I recently curated a small photography exhibition, almost on an impromptu basis, and therefore needed to have some matting and framing completed within a short time period. To my delight, service is still king here. This shop still offers a huge selection of framing possibilities, and the staff are not only friendly, but also amazing at being able to help guide you to the best selection for the frame and materials for your job. I only have great things to say about this place. I have gone back many times and I am always happy. The staff are very skilled. They do a really wonderful job. They also really spend a lot of time with you. We recently went with book that we wanted to frame. The woman working spent an hour or more with us. We just got it back today and I can't believe how wonderful it looks. Previous review: I have been here twice and both times have had such a nice experience. We don't have much framing experience, so I can't comment on the price, but the service and selection was wonderful. The first time: We arrived at about 3:45 and they closed at 5. I think we left around 5:30 -- 30 min past closing. The woman who helped up (Jaime) was wonderful. She was so patient and so knowledgeable. She really helped us pick out a nice fame/matte combo. And, she was super price conscious (which I really liked!) saying, that kind of material will run more, so you can consider this as a less expensive alternative. I never felt like she was making any recommendations to get us to spend more. Also, even though we kept them open late, she never mentioned anything or made us rush through our selection. The framed our item very quickly -- it was ready within a couple of days and it is BEAUTIFUL! The frame and the matting are really gorgeous and the item looks so lovely in it. Time 2: We brought a painting on canvas in to be stretched. Again, they did a really nice job and very fast. Overall, a great experience!! read more
